Northern Salvation

Rate this book
He must rescue the man whose secrets could destroy his life.

Dr. Damian Hunter sold his soul to escape the icy grip of his hometown in Alaska. In the Lower 48, he built an empire as a TV veterinarian, leaving behind his life as the forgotten youngest son of the town drunk. He never planned to return to Anchorage, but when his estranged father’s plane disappears in the bush, he’s left with no choice. Now he’s wanted for murder.

She must find the woman whose disappearance haunts her mind.

Ruby Ootoova has dedicated her life to finding justice for the missing and murdered Indigenous women of Alaska. Along with her water search and rescue K9, Newt, she scours the lakes and rivers of the vast wilderness, hoping to bring one woman in particular home–her sister. The last thing she expects to find is the FBI’s most wanted man bleeding out on an iceberg.

They have to trust each other if they have any chance to survive.

Damian and Ruby have no interest in working together, but as the seasons shift and the ice breaks, they find themselves trapped by the floodwaters and ensnared by a passion that could break through all of their defenses. When a mutual enemy threatens their lives and the recovery of the people they love, they must learn to trust each other or risk never making it out of the bush alive.

All the loose ends come together in this last book. There were so many surprises and it was great to see all the puzzle pieces fall into place. And, all those dogs were awesome! It was very good!

P.S. Nothing like reading this during an "arctic freeze" on the East Coast. Burrr, baby!

PLEASE DO NOT JUDGE A BOOK BECAUSE THERE WAS A GLITCH ON THE DOWNLOAD….all the one stars DID NOT REVIEW the book, they judge an error that the author has fixed and in NO WAY reflects the amazing story and final conclusion in the Northern Rescue series. If you are going to review, review the plot, the characters, the story line and reach out to the author if you think there are chapters missing etc….now onto my review.
The final showdown with all secrets, betrayals, and pasts revealed as Damian, the misunderstood youngest brother, who has just as hard time growing up like his brothers, finally gets his story and we finally “see” who the man is behind the TV personality facade. He’s now wanted for murder and hiding out in the Alaskan wilderness when he runs into some trouble and Ruby finds him in the worst possible way. His Starlight SEES him, past his facade and not as a murderer that the law is searching for. Ruby has her own secrets and past she wants to forget and is confused as to why she isn’t afraid of Damian, when every other man has her on her guard but with Damian, her guard is down and vows to help the stubborn foolish man and find him help before it’s too late.
BOOK HANGOVER after finishing this read and so may feels and emotions from both of their pasts that left me in tears, wanting to wrap both of them up in bubble wrap BUT no need for that since both were strong, stubborn, resilient and survivors of their past and now their present situation. Can’t give too much detail otherwise there will be spoilers but I can say that this story wrapped up the mystery of their dad, why he was the way he is, glimpses into the past of Damian and his brothers that ties it altogether beautifully.
An AMAZING read with AMAZING characters…and dogs….suspense, surprises, twists and turns and descriptions that were spot on that I felt like I was in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness right beside Damian and Ruby. Only disappointment was that it ended but the epilogue wraps it all up nicely in my opinion.

Great ending to a great series. At last we find out the truth about William Hunter, and what he’s been up to for all those years. There’s twists inside twists.

Finally Damien's story!! The buildup from books 1 and 2 setting the stage for Damien to be a murder on the run. And, of course, trouble follows him where he goes. Ruby is only out searching for her missing sister when she notices an injured person on the ice. Cue many disasters befalling Damien and Ruby as they both try to survive the Alaskan bush and a homicidal maniac.
Damien was the character I most wanted to have a story because he's in the previous books and he doesn't always look good (morally speaking, because I'm fairly certain all the Hunter brothers look good). He has the most to overcome from being the FBI's most wanted man and being on the run from other baddies. I liked the flashbacks to his and his brothers' childhood. It helped illustrate how the Hunter brothers became who they are.
Ruby was also not fortunate enough to have a pleasant childhood, but her sister looked out for her, so when she went missing, Ruby went into action to try and find her.
I loved Ruby and Damien together, they complemented each other perfectly. They had great chemistry and their scenes were on the spicier side compared to the other books. Damien was wonderfully caring when it came to Ruby, they were perfect for each other.
The ending seemed a bit rushed for me because it seemed like everything was wrapped up quickly compared to rest of the pace of the series. I liked the ending! It just came around a bit fast for me.
The epilogue was a perfect ending to the series, coming full circle and giving everyone enough closure.

There is violence, steam, and a finale of a series. Note: a dog is injured in the story.

This is the third book in the series and the first two must be read/listened to before this one. If you don't, nothing will make enough sense to enjoy the story. Plus, Ellis and Brie's story has more dogs and Nate is such a great character!

The narrator did a great job with the characters and voices! He differentiated between the characters well and gave each character their own personality!

Note: this book is not for my follower/readers who don't want swearing or intimate scenes.

This is the third book in the Northern Rescue series which follows three brothers as they return to Alaska to find out what happened to their dad. All three books are full of suspense and conflict around every turn. However, each brother has his own tough as nails woman to help him survive the flying bullets and other things.

After reading the first two books, I had to get to the end of the mystery and find out what the heck Damien was up to. I'm so glad he turned out to be a good guy who just got stuck in a very big mess. With FBI agents on the bad guy's payroll, he had no idea where to turn for help.

The action and tension are great. I wanted to cry for Ruby, hug her, and then cheer because she didn't give up even after the horrible life she lived as a teen and young woman.

I give Northern Salvation 4 stars and a R rating for language and lots of on page intimacy.

1-5 scale and what it means:
1: I couldn’t even finish it / just plain bad
2: I hope I didn’t pay for this / disappointing
3: I didn’t hate it, but it was still missing something / forgettable but inoffensive
3.5: On the line between good and ok / like, not love
4: Solid mind candy / worth reading
4.5: So very close to perfection! / must read
5: I could not put it down and I’m still thinking about it! / a true treasure

Movie Ratings in relation to my review:
Clean--Hallmark movies, some kissing, no nudity, no intimacy on or off "screen"
PG--Some innuendo but nothing kids don't hear every day, intimacy is all closed door
PG-13--some language (swear words not related to intimacy), more talk about intimacy, heavy petting, removal of clothing on screen, but intimacy is closed door.
PG-14—somewhere between PG-13 and R. Not erotica, but at least a paragraph of on-screen intimacy
R--swearing (F-bomb, on “screen” intimacy, sometimes feels like the whole story is about the intimacy and not the relationship or some other plot, but not always

OMG, what an ending to this series!

I have to be honest, I really wasn't sure that Tonya Burrows would be able to wrap up this series and have me actually believing that Will Hunter has any good guy-ness in him after all--all three of his sons carried around so much baggage, thanks to their upbringing--but she did it! (Don't get me wrong, he was still a terrible parent. But at least there was a reason behind it and not all of his motivations were as horrible as they first appeared.)

Damien's been a mystery for much of the series--he's been very much out of the picture/behind the scenes in the other 2 books, and neither brother had much faith or trust in him...especially Nate after what Damien had done in the beginning of book 2. Ms Burrows had to use a lot of flashbacks here, most from Damien's POV but 1 pivotal one from someone else's, but she managed to finally connect all the dots for readers. Not going to lie, this book had me gasping in surprise (yes, totally out loud and YES, where other people could hear me) more than once. I absolutely did not see so many of the twists and turns coming, but OMG did she make me believe them anyway!

As much as I loved Damien and Ruby--and goodness, did I ever love them hard!--once again it's all the dogs of Northern Rescue who end up stealing the show. Northern Salvation added 3 more star canines to the mix, and I can't even begin to do them justice here so you're just going to have to read the book yourself and see.

And yes, you really should read all 3 in order. Not just for maximum dog exposure, but also because otherwise you'll be missing all the backstory that you really, really need to understand the story and thoroughly enjoy the ending.

Because OMG, that ending? *chef's kiss*

Damian finds his Starlight

His Starlight guides him back to the light, gives him a reason to fight, to live, to hope. Clinging to survival as you bleed out on an ice float is not the time to realise you aren't ready to die, but that's where Damian finds himself.
Ruby is awesome, she faces her worst fears, she rescues Damian, she protects them, gets them to safety and defends Damian from everyone...including himself. She barely falters, even when faced with the harshest conditions and the worst of humanity, she is a warrior who surprises even herself.
The Hunter brothers have survived a horrifying childhood, a broken family and neglectful parenting, despite this all three of them are fairly well functioning adults - until they are together. But what if everything they thought they knew, the events they lived through as children, the search for their father, their family feuds all stemmed from one event, one lie....one twist of fate. If nothing is as you thought it was, then are you the person you have always believed you are? Each of the brothers carry blame, heartache, grief and resentment like a cloak, but it may just be misplaced.....
This is an emotionally horrifying series, but whilst there is dysfunction, there is actually (buried very deep) a huge amount of love too, they each would give their life for their brothers, and the love they all so freely show the dogs is truly beautiful. I am not sure they all find redemption, but they get answers...too many answers. Some, to questions that were long overdue, and some to questions they never should have had to ask, but they all find a peace within themselves that offers a future, with the amazing women and gorgeous dogs of their hearts.....and with each other.
A great read on Kindle Unlimited.

Will Salvation save Damien & Ruby

I thought the first 2 books in this series were intense roller coasters of emotions but this one was insanely intense with amazing twists and turn I didn’t see coming. I absolutely LOVE when there are completely unexpected twists that I didn’t see coming in a story, I almost always see them but I didn’t in this story. Damien has had issues with his childhood and older brothers as well as their dad and always felt abandoned. While searching for his dad and attempting to clean up his and his dads mess from his past he keeps being thrown curveballs in this search, the one curveball he never expected was Ruby. Ruby and her SAR dog Newt are searching for her sister when she comes upon Damien and the last thing she wants is to have to help a man. Newt shows her that he doesn’t seem too bad and she can’t leave someone who’s injured out in the Alaskan cold to perish. Little do Ruby or Damien know their pasts will collide but will it be too much to tear them apart. Damien constantly reminds Ruby he’s dangerous and selfish and she literally witnesses the exact opposite from him and doesn’t believe he’s really who he says he is. These two might just be able to save each other and heal each other but will their past keep that from happening. All three of the Hunter brothers solve the mystery of their missing dad, but did they find out in time to save him and themselves along with their women. If you’re wanting a book series that will keep you on the edge of your seat then I urge you to give this one a read. I don’t believe you will be disappointed at all, I know I wasn’t in fact I can’t wait to read more from this author!!

Ice and frozen rivers had taken SAR volunteer Ruby Ootoova’s entire family, that’s why she dedicated herself to searching for missing family members. Ruby though she and her K9, Newt, were going to be taking a body back. He’d been shot but he was breathing, roughly but breathing. Turning him over, Ruby’s surprised to look into the eyes of Dr. Damian Hunter! A wanted fugitive.

Straining to get Damian into the kayak to reach they can get to her plane, Ruby’s at a loss when the plane sinks before their eyes. But Damian has a camp nearby, as they go there the pair talk and begin to like each other and Ruby begins to wonder what is actually truth.

Meanwhile, Damian’s memories fill in some blanks as the mastermind of the elaborate, convoluted scheme is revealed. And there’s an elite tracker on William and Damian’s trails now as more gasps, surprises, betrayals await in the wings

While each piece of this mystery trilogy, from a new to me author, is quite good on its own and could be read independently, the arc is more cohesive read together for a very good read! Again, the featured K9 has a lot of personality and makes good use of their time in the spotlight (big smiles for dog lovers!) and the multi-layered human character absolutely has reason to be in the environment and the story.

NORTHERN SALVATION (Northern Rescue Book 3) is the last of the series. But just like Book 1: NORTHERN ESCAPE & Book 2: NORTHERN DECEPTION is action-packed, twist and turns, and suspense. Only difference this book has a final ending, if you even though thought you knew what was coming, if you're like me, you will be totally surprised!

Dr. Damian Hunter was the youngest of the three Hunter brothers. He had left his childhood home in Alaska and his estranged father behind. He was living a good life as a well-known TV veterinarian. He had never wanted to go back to Alaska, but a desperate call from a woman, saying his father was missing, had him and his two brothers returning to search for the very man who had been a very bad father.

Northern Salvation had been Damian Hunter & Ruby Ootoova's story. Both Ruby & Damian are broken characters, but together they make a great team. She works with her search & rescue canine named Newt. If you are a dog lover than you will enjoy meeting all the wonderful dogs in all three of these books. I recommend all three books, and I enjoyed them all!

What a wild ride!

Mystery, intrigued, romance, adventure and danger all rolled up into one epic conclusion!

Damien Hunter, the youngest brother is way over his head and he realizes this when he is shot and left for dead in the freezing cold snow.

Ruby has been searching for her sister since she disappeared over 5 years ago and she and her pup Newt while on another search before heading home find a body in the snow, shot but alive.

Ruby and Damien along with their pups, Happy and Newt work together to get to safety but not before they run into some dangerous situations, the animal and human kind. Along the way they grow close and learn to trust each other.

The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Will Hunter finally comes to an end and the truth and Lies are revealed. I didn't expect what came next but I was extremely satisfied how Ms. Burrows ended the series although I do hope Tage gets his HEA and Ruby finds her sister. Can't wait for the new series to start in January!

It was nice to finally have all the jigsaw pieces fit together.  It took a while as the adventures unfurled, and the H finally got his story as well as his love story.
Tonya did a great job pairing the past to the emotional present.
The only negative I found was the h. She had a heartbreaking story that,  for me,  made her healing too quick.
There's so much emotional baggage with the brothers and has been spread over 3 books. However,  Ruby was written a bit too quickly.  Maybe a bit more of her background in book 2 may have pushed the plausible issue.
And with the bad guys all around their doesn't seem to be any urgency or worry. A bit too shallow for my taste.
But on a more exciting note, when the bubble bursts, it definitely bursts.  Wow. Yet another twist that was a beauty. And a breathtaking turn. It truly is an amazing series, and I applaud Tonya for the brilliant plotline.
Great fun with the dogs,  some steam, romance and flourishing love, and family bonding.
thanks again Stephen great narration

We are back in Alaska with another rescue . This time the story belongs Ruby Ootoova, and Damian Hunter. Damian is a veterinarian that left Alaska to find a new life and fame. Far away from his past and his drunken father. Ruby Ootoova, involved in search and rescue, spends all her spare time looking for murdered indigenous women. Mainly, her sister.
When Damian is told his father’s plane has disappeared in the bush, he feels obligated to return home. What he didn’t expect was being wanted for erroneously being accused murdering an FBI, bleeding in the bush and being rescued by a woman.
As the danger for both intensifies, these two realize they need to trust each other and joining forces. Will they survive the danger? Will they find their loved ones?
Another edge of your seat plot with well developed characters.

I'm so glad that I finally listened to Northern Salvation. At first, I was hesitant to, because the first two were so similar to each other, that wasn't sure if I am up to the same for the third time.
But as I said I am happy that I did here this. Northern Salvation was the best of all three of the Northern Rescue series. It had the perfect balance of disasters and salvation. I also enjoyed how Tonya Burrows everything together at the end. In the beginning, I was wondering how will it all end because of so many things happening in the first two books, but the end was beautifully done.
As always the narration was spectacular. Stephen Borne knows what she is doing and how to get the best out of any story.
Thank you for the opportunity to hear this story in audio.

Northern Salvation was recommended to me by another author. I was impressed from the first chapter. Great characters, lots of action, suspense and drama. Yes, there is some spicy moments but the emphasis is on two strangers, one of whom is an alleged murderer, survivng the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness. Add in a couple of K9s who are playful and protective; some Russian mafia types; traffickers of drugs, guns and humans; and an assassin on the hunt and you've got a story that will capture and hold your interest. Ruby Ootoova and Damien Hunter maybe the most mismatched couple ever. Yet, they forge a bond through adversity and beating the odds. As respect develops so do feelings but it's a bumpy perilous road to their happy ever after.

Oh i love it, it's better read in order but even if you missed one it's so well written that you can get immersed into the story without trouble.
It's the last instalment in the series Northern rescue so we do get all the answers we hoped to get but with so many twists i really loved it.

It was captivating to follow Damian and to see how caring and protective he is despite his brute exterior. he is adorable with Happy. Ruby is perfect for him, she is a survivor and a protector even if she does not realize it yet. I love her connection to Newt and her courage in her search and rescue job.

Really if you want a good romance, a great suspense and love animals ( dogs at least) this is a fantastic series for you to discover: to be recommanded

Book 3 and conclusion to the series. You can read this as a standalone, but it is better if you read the series in order. The book is so detailed, the characters well developed and relatable. They are hardy survivors, strong-willed and determined. The story line is entertaining, with twists and turns. Love the dogs, adds the perfect human touch to the story. Diamonds, human trafficking, a boy in a mine shaft, white water rafting mishap, a mother who sells her child, and a father’s love willing to do anything to keep his boys safe. Truly a good read. I am sorry to say this trilogy is over, but I am looking forward to future books by this author. The narration was great!

What an a great book and perfect ending to this series. I thought I was going to hate Damien but wow I was wrong. He thought he was such a bad guy and maybe he made some poor decisions but Damien is just such a great guy. I loved the build in his relationship with Ruby. I also loved the view we get into his childhood. It really makes you understand the 3 brothers so much. As for Ruby I loved her inner fortitude and her vulnerability. She went through so much. I loved how Damien stuck with her and his need to help her even when he kept believing the worse of himself. Each book as an overarching plot and the conclusion here was very satisfying. I loved seeing all 3 couples here and the HEA not only for Damien and Ruby but for the brothers.

First off for anyone giving a 1-star review reload the book and read the whole book and redo your review because this book deserves a second chance. Damian is back in Alaska trying to find his dad and get things straighten out so his family can be safe. But he gets shot and left for dead on the ice. Ruby who is out looking for her sister finds him on the ice and with the help of her dog and his dog tries to get them to Salvation and safety. There's plenty of danger, murder, the mafia, traffickers and all kinds of twist and turns with great characters. Tonya has given us a great ending and epilogue to this series.

Northern Salvation is a fantastic conclusion to this series! The story that was woven through this trilogy was a thrilling fantastic rollercoaster ride. They were all so good. I couldn’t put them down. Damian gets redeemed in this book, and in finds myself rooting for him. Ruby is the perfect match for Damian. She is just as stubborn and strong willed as Damian. Of course the dogs were big stars in the books too! The question of what happen to Will Hunter is answered, and the brothers work together to find answers. Northern Salvation was a great steamy suspenseful story! I enjoyed reading and listening to this story. I can’t wait for more from Tonya Burrows!

This book was brilliant for artfully, crafting a plot that began in book one was developed in book 2, and then concluded, cohesively in book 3. I really like the three brothers and the journeys that each of them took.

Dislikes:
Where I think the book could have been better was in establishing some of the key players a little bit earlier. For example, the Heidi ending came a little bit out of left field for me. I also think the brothers didn’t really get kind of closure with their father, that the first and second books were gearing up to. I would like to explore that emotions around that more and it did feel like that was glossed over.

This is the third book in the Northern Rescue Trilogy, a Romantic Suspense. I like this series! This is a series with an ongoing plot. We follow the three brothers in their quest to find what happened to their Dad. Damien and Ruby's story is suspenseful, intriguing, and captivating, filled with danger, action, and unexpected twists and turns. They are both strong characters. I loved to see again the characters from the first books in the series. Stephen Borne did a great job with the narration. This is a great conclusion to this entertaining, and captivating series. I enjoyed it, and I highly recommend it. #StoryOrigin

Northern salvation

I bought this book and made it all the way to the end, and I had all these missing chapters. Go to the authors page noticed it was addressed did the sync, even removed the download and did it again, no help still missing chapters. Thought ok get a refund and just use my kindle unlimited and read that way, still downloads with missing chapters. Was really looking forward to the conclusion of a great series only to have the ending a bust, stopped reading after the first missing chapter, now no ending for me.

Wow what a powerful end to this series. We now have all the answers to our questions that have come from this story. William Hunter has finally been found and we now know why he disappeared. We also find that Dr. Damian Hunter is not the bad guy his two brothers thought he was. He was actually trying to save his father and get to the bottom of what in the devil he was mixed up in. I never saw most of this coming. I am so glad Tonya finally got to finish up this series. This series keeps you guessing right up to the end. It was worth the wait!

What an ending to the underlying questions of this trilogy. With more twists and turns, unexpected secrets revealed, connections brought to life, and tons of danger, action and suspense as Damian and Ruby fight the Alaskan bush and enemies to survive, this story was gripping. Heartfelt, heartbreaking, and heart mending moments as the three brothers discover reasons that shaped their pasts, and Damien sheds more light on heir childhood. And of course Damian and Ruby find love and a future they thought forever out of their reach. Stephen Borne of course brought this story to life with his narration.

Northern Salvation does stand alone in terms of Damian and Ruby's story, though the events of the previous books in the series influence the characters in this story, and the characters do overlap. I know I got more out of this story because I had listened to the others first. I liked the mix of action and suspense in the story.

The audiobook was narrated by Stephen Borne, and he did a great job with the narration. I would listen to more books by him in the future.

This one wasn't quite as harrowing as the first two and we did finally get answers to so many questions, some of which really blew my mind. I liked that the answers came out and how. The brothers finally got to know the why of bad things while they were growing up and it makes me think better of their father, even as I still hate the damage it caused the boys. It's nice to see them united at the end. You get the feeling that the 3 couples will be close and a great support system for each other going forward.

A great conclusion to this series which I couldn’t wait to read. I needed to see how Damien could explain all that had happened. Ruby was an amazing character her and Damien made a perfect couple. This book really finished the story well and answered all the questions from book 1 and 2. Two new dogs introduced to the pack and they were gorgeous. Peanut thankfully makes another appearance. The epilogue was perfect. Thanks Tonya for another amazing book and series.

For the Love of Family

The Hunter family was definitely dysfunctional but they still had a deep bond. Too many secrets for too long had kept them apart. But as each new layer of the story was revealed they realized how much their father sacrificed for them and that he wasn’t truly bad as they remembered him. In returning to Alaska to search for him each son began to heal and learned what love truly was. DEFINITELY a series worth reading!
