Ranger Ridge Creek rides north, leaving Blanca Flores and his chance at true romance as he and Nat Love traveled up the Chisholm Trail. Moving north through Kansas and Wyoming towards the Dakota Territories, they saved a wagon train full of valuables from hostiles and then agreed to help take the wagon train of unlikely passengers along with Martha (Calamity) Jane Canary on to Deadwood. Ridge finally takes a job as deputy sheriff under Sheriff Seth Bullock. His duties included riding shotgun on the west trail of the Deadwood to Cheyenne stagecoach, the most dangerous stretch of land in the Black Hills. Ash Lingam has developed a Texan lawman in the style of the Old West gunfighter.
Ash Lingam was born and raised in Southern Ohio, not far from the mighty Ohio River. He had somewhat of an isolated upbringing on a family farm with his sisters. His best friends were his horse, Sugar, and his grandfather. Born in 1886, the family patriarch grew crops, raised cattle, and doted on the young boy. At his grandfather’s side, Ash learned about livestock and firearms at an early age. His grandad carried an old Colt with him at all times, helping spawn a young boy’s dreams of yesteryear. Ash was only eight years old when his grandad taught him how to trap muskrats to prevent them from draining the farm’s ponds. He gave him a double-barreled shotgun at twelve and taught him how to hunt to put food on the table. It wasn’t long before Ash was breaking horses. His spirited Tennessee Walker never allowed any other rider on her back. Together, they searched through the plowed fields in the spring, looking for Miami Indian arrowheads to add to his grandfather’s ample collection. Ash’s family was among the early settlers in pre-Revolutionary America. He has traced his lineage back to around 1746 when his ancestors immigrated from Europe to the aspiring American Colonies. A retired marketing executive, Ash devotes his spare time to training police dogs and writing novels. He has found his niche in the Western, historical fiction, and adventure genres. With his vast vault of experience, he never runs out of sources for new stories. He has lived in eleven different countries and worked in a total of forty-six, To date, Ash has written approximately 130 novels, short stories, and poems. More than one hundred of his eclectic titles help the American frontier come alive for his readers.

I always enjoy a well told yarn about the days of Wagon Trains and hard lives of everyone who traveled to the “Promised Land” Most people in those days believed the Bible to one extent or another so they were looking for the “Promised land” of the Scriptures, not understanding it existed only in their minds. I read the series and enjoyed it. Give it a try, I think you will too.
It kept me reading all 3 books. Storyline different from run of the mill books. Some humor in this book along with stress & tragedies that occur. Sometimes a bit too violent for me but may not be for others. WHERE is the next book??? It is frustrating to see there are 3 books then last book just stops period!! WHEN can I look for the next book??!!
This was an exciting and easy story to read. I could not put my tablet down. Every free minute I had I was reading. I cried when Willis and Cookie died. The story makes the reader realize how difficult it was for the people of the wagon train and the courage of the Hartwood men.
This has been a great series so far. Love the storyline and the trials and adventures they face, in the exploration of America. Can not wait for the continuation of this story.
