Magic is a volatile power.

Kyla is the first girl in the history of the fire festival to be trained as a mage. But there’s still so much she has to learn. As she continues to explore and refine her incredible power, a simmering threat the Orivesi arsonist has struck again, and powerful families are aligning themselves against the fire festival.

As Kyla struggles to maintain control over her magic in order to help calm the inferno, heartbreak stalks her every step. For the council is deadly serious about maintaining exclusive control on the practice of fire magic, even if it means a massacre. And the day is coming when everyone must choose a side.

Fire Mage is the heart-pounding second novel in a trilogy of YA elemental fantasy books. If you like fierce girl power, slow-burn romance, and harrowing danger, you'll love Catherine Jones Payne's fire world. Fall headlong into a blazing adventure perfect for fans of A.L. Knorr, Mary Weber, and Marissa Meyer.

Fire Mage is the electrifying sequel to Fire Dancer. With a couple years between book one and two, I had to reread book one before getting to book two. I will say this with confidence...Catherine's writing only gets better with time. This book gripped me so much. The writing was vivid, the characters were full, and the world was well-developed. We got to explore some more cultures and it was so much fun. Plus...the stakes are really rising. I am anxious to see where book three goes.

such a good read

Catherine weaves an excellent plot without resorting to excessive sex to carry the storyline. This is perfect for middle schoolers! It has a strong message about right & wrong and being brave enough to do the right thing whether it be forgiving past wrongs or standing up to evil.

The ending snuck up on me, and I didn’t realize there is a third book planned. I have to wait for the ending!!! Ahhh!!!

So, I am really enjoying this series. Book 2 is just as good if not better than Book 1. I really hope book 3 is coming soon.
