One ghost ship legend, one man's obsession, 10 tales of terror.
200 years ago The Damnation terrorised the Caribbean waters. Captained by an exiled British aristocrat Devereux Bonney who'd been banished form his homeland due to long held rumours about his violent dark appetites and occult beliefs. Ruling the ocean waves and evading the naval forces sent to sink him The Damnation brought about fear as her deeds grew into legend before she disappeared without trace.
Willard Gaines was a man obsessed with finding the legend, an obsession that has cost him everything but it is about to pay off, but at what price?
When her estranged father goes missing after finding his prize Maisy is dispatched in her capacity as a lawyer to begin the process of legally seizing The Damnation's remains. What she finds however is that already some of the ship's items have gone missing, artefacts that are embedded with the Captain's evil as they spread out seeking destruction.
Soon Maisy finds herself on a race against time to track down the 10 missing items before it's too late, before they reach their goal in blood and innocent lives, and each one bringing Devereux Bonney one step closer to his return.
Salvage brings you 10 individual tales of terror, each one linked by a framing storyline and every one a tale to read with the lights on.

A series of seemingly unrelated vignettes, each with its own characters, cleverly—masterfully—come together to complete the story of Deveraux Bonney. Bonney was a pirate of the worst order who went down with his ship 200 years ago. Now that the ship has been discovered and its booty removed, Bonney will no longer Rest In Peace. Very enjoyable to read, but with significant loss of life from the first chapter going forward. While not overly gory, there is a fair amount of references to blood, weapons, death. There’s even a demon summoned by the ladies auxiliary to aide in fundraising. Probably not appropriate for young readers, but definitely a Must-Read for fans of horror. Can recommend.
The always reliable Matt Drabble delivers an anthology story that doesn't disappoint. It captures the same elements as a Hammer or Amicus portmanteau movie and would do well converted to a screenplay. I love short stories and capturing them together in a hunt for a cursed pirate treasure was great fun. Matt scores again.
I really enjoyed Salvage by Matt Drabble. Usually, I would not go for books with tales of Pirates in them, but I was intrigued as I have read a lot of Matts other books and really enjoy his writing style. The story follows Maisy trying to salvage items from The Damnation Pirate Ship which all have a mysterious curse on them caused by the Pirate Captain Devereux Bonney. The book splits off into individual stories which all are linked by the cursed items. A great read and one which you won't want to put down.
