Cora Hamilton needed to get out of town fast! - With her ex due out of prison, the last thing she wants is to be around when he comes knocking on her door. For him, Cora is unfinished business. She needs to run.
When her new boss finds her sleeping in her car in the parking lot of his bbq restaurant in Wishbone, Texas, Cora questions her decision.
She’s a day late and her new boss is understandably unimpressed. Cora’s no pushover and she’s damn good at her job, as she intends to prove if he’ll just give her a chance.
Duke Wilson knew he was taking a risk hiring his new manager sight unseen but Cora Hamilton’s resume and references were the best. If his restaurant is to be the success he wants and his life less stressful, he needs her. Despite the fact she let him down before she even started work, his gut tells him she’s as desperate for a break as he is.
But can he get past her lies and trust her after her abysmal start and let her do the job he hired her for?
I swear I was born with a book in my hand and that is how I spent most of my childhood. That was fine until I got older and the voices in my head demanded to be heard and I started to write. The voices are no quieter but there are less of them.
This is a beautiful story, the story about a woman running from abuse with her small son, she is blessed when she finds a job managing a restaurant in Wishbone Texas, and her boss Duke and his caring and loving family take them in, Cora and her son have found their place and love.
Cora and her son Toby arrive late for the her new job, they have driven across Texas to hopefully find a safe haven and a good job, when she meets her new boss Duke she is taken in by his caring ways and his good looks but her son is her priority, but when she ends up at the family ranch and being taken care of by Duke’s family at first she is worried Cora is a very independent woman who holds a secret, but the more time her and Toby spend there the more safe she feels and the more her feelings are pulling her towards Duke.
Duke has been working himself into the grown running his restaurant it is time to hire a manager and on the recommendation of his friend across the state he hires Cora, when she arrives late he helps her with a place to stay and his family all jump in to help with her son Toby. Health wise Duke needs to take some time off and it is not long before he knows that he can trust Cora with the restaurant and he is getting closer to her, but when he discovers something from her past this could be a game changer.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, the strength that Cora shows after what she and Toby have been through is amazing and that she can still love is awesome and when danger arrives it shows more than ever that Duke is the man for her I think there was an instant attraction even if he did jump to conclusions he is nothing but loving and caring. I do highly recommend this one and I am very much looking forward to more in the series, there are a lot of Wilson’s that need their stories told.
what a waste of time this was. i really have no clue why this book has a high rating. did we all read different versions of this book?
I'll explain the whole plot under the spoiler mark so if you don't plan on reading this book read it freely, or if you plan on reading this book just read this review because it will be a waste of time.
there you go that's basically the whole book in a quick summary, if you don't know yet why i hated this book it's simply bad. The FMC and MMC have no connection between them, they barely talk and when they do they mostly misunderstand each other or they argue or they have some kind of problem. the amount of plot points is overwhelming, we've got the job plot, health plot, MMC's brother losing his child because his ex-wife kidnapped him, FMC and her child plot which is a lot because the father is in prison but they needed to move away in case he will want to find them .
simply put - what a waste of time, I'm glad I didn't buy the book for any money and just got it while it was free on kindle.
Cora is running from her abusive ex, even though he's in prison, she wants to get away. She's starting a new job working as a restaurant manager for Duke, one of the many Wilson brothers. It doesn't start well, her car breaks down, she's late arriving, the flat she's rented has been let out because she was late. Things improve though, she's taken to Duke's home, where his parents and grandfather live. They love taking care of her and Toby, her son, but will she let them, and what about her feelings for her boss, Duke, what happens if it all goes wrong?
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Another 5 star read by the amazingly talented Ann B. Harrison. Duke, Cora and we can’t forget the adorable Toby will take you on a journey full of love, regret, hurt and back to love again. This story also shows that you shouldn’t jump to conclusions until you have all the facts. I can’t wait to read the other books in this awesome new series by Ann.
This book is short and sweet. Some humor and cuteness, loads of angst, a little romance, no sex, a few kisses, and getting to know and trust each other. Recommend
3.5/5 Texas Cowboy by Ann B. Harrison, book one in her Wishbone, Texas series, is a sweet and enjoyable story about a young single mom, Cora Hamilton, who badly needed to get out of town before her abusive ex was released from prison. When her new boss discovers her sleeping in her car in the restaurant parking lot, she fears she just might have lost her job in Wishbone, Texas. Duke Wilson wondered what was going on when his new restaurant manager is a day late and sleeping in her car. Duke was raised by a strong southern woman and manners required that he give her a chance to prove herself; especially as her resume and references were outstanding. Duke is in need of lightening his stress level and he really needs Cora’s help to make that happen. Accidently discovering Cora’s ex took her son and wrongly assuming the facts were correct in an internet story Duke wonders if he can trust Cora; he was already falling for her and questioned her feelings.
I struggled a bit with this story as there is little emotion or chemistry between these two characters; their conversations revolved only around the restaurant and not getting to learn more about each other. When Duke announces he wants Cora I was taken aback and felt it came from left field. I did love the support Duke’s family provided to both Duke, Cora, and her son and how Cora was a strong and stubborn woman. However, I would have liked to learn a bit more about her background. Where was her family? Why was she alone?
Ms. Harrison wrote an emotional and enjoyable romance that should definitely not be missed. She provided a story with little chemistry, interfering family members, and charming characters. I enjoyed and highly recommend Texas Cowboy to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This is one of those books that feels like it is taking place in real life. We have Duke who is running a restaurant/bar and he needs help badly. So he reaches out to a friend who tells him about Cora who he hires sight unseen. Only thing is he has no idea Cora has a son. Life happens like that right. Toby & Cora are a wonderful mother and son combo and they bring so much life to everyone they meet. I love how this little family is taken in and loved by so many. It is a wonderful book and a read that is welcomed at this time right now. My favorite person has to be Toby! OH My Goodness that little Cowhand!
So this story follows Cora and her son Toby, who fled their previous town because of the abusive and terrible father of Toby, who was in prison but is soon to be released. She got a job recommendation and without much hesitation, our MMC accepts her as the new new manager of his restaurant. Ofcourse, she shows up but doesn't really show up (she's sleeping in her car on the driveway of the restaurant), and he finds her there, offers her a place at the house of his parents. His mom practically adopts this woman and her son (which is admittedly very adorable, but also very very intense), then she leaves her son with this newfound family, works her ass of, kisses her new boss, he kmget's a semi-heart-attack, they kiss some more, her son gets kidnapped but in 2 pages he is already found and then Duke asks her to marry him. Yeah that was basically the story. Everything was so rushed and not detailed enough for my taste. There was so much going on and it was way too much foe the lenght of this book. I would've preferred it if it were a longer story, with more depth and details. There are so many important topics in this story which I think are never written about enough, but this story doesn't do those topics justice. So yeah, big no for me. But apparently other people think highly of it, and that's nice for the author because I do really want authors to find their public. I'm just not part of this public.

“Texas Cowboy - A Contemporary Western Romance”(Wishbone Texas Book 1)
What a book! A woman, her small son,a restaurant owning Cowboy, and his family make up the cast of players in this book. The woman takes a managerial position in a restaurant she just moved to,because her apartment fell through, she and young son were sleeping in the car until the owner came and found her there. Not letting her stay there,he took her home with him,to this big sprawling house, where she met his mother and the rest of his family. After many nights, they find her a cottage on said property with grandparents to look after her young son.Things continue to look up from there. This is a terrific book and I don’t want to spoil it by saying too much.Only know,I was shocked when I turned the page and it was the end! I really wanted it to keep going! So please try this, you’ll be glad you did!
The first 50 pages were okay enough, but it went downhill from there. The writing was a bit awkward at times, and the timeline kept changing. Some parts were silly, and the love interests had no chemistry. She honestly didn't seem that into him the whole time. He mentions wanting to marry her, and she says she wants to see how things go first. Then, two chapters later, he asks again, and she says yes. Based on the timeline, he asked the first time between a few days ago to 24 hours ago. So, I don't understand how her mind changed immediately. I did enjoy the side characters. I loved Dukes family and Toby.
I like the big family closeness and down-to-earthness, as well as their rallying around Cora and Toby. Hoping Adam's son is found soon and he and Toby become best friends. Need a little help with apostrophes where they don't belong and none where they do. Sorry...just an annoyance to me.😊
Cora takes a job as restaurant manager in Wishbone, Texas. Her first meeting with her boss, Duke Wilson, doesn't go as planned. Cora finds herself in a place where she feels safer than she ever has with people who you can't help but love and appreciate. This is such a sweet, small town feel romance with wonderful characters you're sure to love!
Loved the story. The whole single mom/ boss and worker trope was done very well. One thing I didn't like was the denial of feelings they had towards each other and the end when Toby got kidnapped, that felt a bit rushed. Overall I thought it was a good book. Hope to get the rest of the series soon.
This was a good story. Cora and Toby moved to Wishbone, Texas, for her job. She was the manager for the restaurant. Her boss, Duke, was really impressed with her credentials. Duke had an incident and had to be of work for two weeks. Toby became a big helper to grandpa, a great mystery is to happen, enjoy the rest of the story.
A lovely story with a realistic theme... Cora and his son Toby are looking for some normal and safe place and they found that without realizing it... Duke is his new boss, and his family adopted Cora and Toby with love and care... healing and love are in the air 💕
This is a new series for me. This is the first book I have read by this author. I look forward to more of her books. This is a well written story with great characters. This was an easy read for me because I enjoyed the story. I think you will enjoy this one, too. Go get this one now.
This was a great contemporary ranch romance. He lived on the family ranch but owned and ran his own restaurant. A new manager was due today but hadn't shown up. Lots of changes and challenges lean towards romance.
A really good read…but the ending was a tad rushed. I needed more!
Good storyline; great characters; plot was good but wanted to know more about Adam’s missing son; the HEA was good but too rushed at the end. We need more!
Cute story about a cute family. But it was rushed and way too short. Don’t get me wrong there is definitely potential here. I just think this story needs more character development and time for an actual relationship to bloom between love interests.
Wow, I’m sure lucky to have found another set of stories by MS Harrison. I started reading this story and couldn’t put it down. Just like CJ Petit, this story about Texas and cowboys is another example of great storytelling.
The thing I liked most about the book was the family and how open they were to new people.
The story per se was nice and I liked the interactions between our two main characters but they were moving way to fast. Maybe if the book would have been longer and you could have seen a romantic relationship growing between them I would have bought it. But they barely know each other at the end of the book.
Quick read. Great for beach day or rainy day read. The story rang true except for how quickly the romance began…..in a matter of weeks. Ok, call me cynic. lol
