Dog Training and Behaviour Solutions is a collection of articles using force free and fear free methods. As we prepare to bring a puppy home in March, I’m doing my homework. This is a book that is great for anyone who has or will have a dog. I think there were some really valuable lessons to help us with Gus as well. It is a collaboration piece between multiple force-free and fear-free professionals who found one another on Facebook, and put all their advice together in this book. It covers various aspects of puppy and dog ownership, care, training, and managing and treating behavior problems. Though you do not need to read the book cover to cover, I did. However, I have marked it all up and I intend to reference it quite a bit in the coming months. Despite a generally professional voice, the tone is friendly, and at appropriate times, humorous. Some of the articles are brief and provide a quick and easy read; others are more lengthy, but the formatting and editing breaks them up well with subheadings making the text much easier to take in. If you’re interested in their Facebook group, search for Dog Training Advice and Support (DTAS). This one gets four doggos, of course: 🐕🦮🐩🐕🦺
full of helpful tips, great advice and force free related info.
I read this book because I recently became a member of the Facebook group. I have a terrier and he has developed some issues, I’ve been looking for information to help me understand him better and to assist me in helping him. I’ve read many books relating to behaviour and training, in the hopes that I can educate myself as much as possible on positive reinforcement training and find ways to help my dog cope in situations. This book has been insightful and has offered some new ideas for some things, such as enrichment activities and information on some of the issues that my dog seems to present with.
Fantastic book. Must read for any dog owner or in preparation for getting a dog. I have this as an audiobook and will purchase a physical copy for future reference. It increased my understanding and tools for helping our dogs in building confidence and managing behavior challenges. You won’t regret having this as one of your primary training resources.
Bonus: there is a Facebook Group that is run by the many authors/trainers who wrote this book. It is a place to get training support beyond what the book offers.
This is an excellent book. Easy to read. Love the private Facebook group too, it's almost as if a followup consultation if you will, though the book is very comprehensive.
