A Scottish special forces veteran investigates an old friend’s murder as a favour to his grieving widow—but he may go to his own grave without any answers . . .
When Adam Black attends the funeral of an old friend, Desmond Gallagher—a human rights lawyer shot dead while jogging—the widow asks for his help, and he can’t say no. She confides that her husband had been threatened by a group calling itself the Remus Syndicate, and Black is soon plunged into a complex and shadowy mystery involving money laundering, organized crime, and human trafficking. But every new discovery seems to lead to a dead end. Along the way, Black finds mortal threats, carnage, and plenty of secrets—but will the truth about Desmond Gallagher’s demise remain forever unknown?
The latest in the action-packed series featuring the ex-SAS agent, Finale can also be read as a thrilling standalone.
Another fantastic read from a series which just keeps getting better and better!
When Adam Black attends the funeral of an old friend whose death is a bit of an enigma, he finds himself unable to refuse her plea to find out what happened to him. As she has confided that he was threatened by the Remus Syndicate, he sets about trying to find out everything there is about them and finds himself deep in an intricate mystery which will take some unravelling. But if anyone can, then that man is Adam Black.
I admit to panicking when I spotted the title of this latest novel in series - surely it didn't mean the end? I was very relieved to find out that it was just the title - not the actual finale! From the very first I have loved this series; it's not just that I recognise the locations - it's the quality of the writing and the unpredictability of the story. Make no doubt about it, Adam Black is a dangerous man and, whilst this is an excellent stand-alone read, I would advise readers this is one series of novels you really do want to start at the beginning; it will help you understand what makes the man tick. A stunning addition to this terrific series, and an easy five sparkling stars from me!
Thank you to Bloodhound Books for the opportunity to read this early eARC.
I have really enjoyed Karl Hill’s Adam Black books so far and began reading this with high expectations. Was I disappointed? No. Not at all. The author has created such a strong likeable character in Adam Black who I just can’t help but root for. In Finale Adam is asked by a friends widow to find out who murdered her husband and why. And where Adam Black goes trouble is never far behind. I was drawn into the story right from the start and the author grabbed and held my attention to the last page. I loved the separate story threads and the cliff hanger chapter endings which made me want to continue reading to see what happened next. This is a cracker of a read full of action, violence, tension and suspense. And the twists ... wow, wow, wow. If you like books where the main character has a don’t care attitude, nothing to lose and where killing is as natural as breathing and there is non stop action then this read could be for you.
This is a first rate crime novel, my first encounter with the Adam Black Thriller series. I will be looking for the earlier books in the series.
The story begins with the murder of a prominent lawyer as he is jogging early morning on a country road. He is a human rights lawyer who has uncovered a scheme involving illegal organ trafficking. A Turkish expatriate ring based in the UK brings over illegal immigrants and turns them over to a private hospital where a couple of surgeons dissect them and remove all the usable organs for sale to a Chinese conglomerate.
Adam Black is in country at the time of his friend's murder and becomes involved in trying to track down the killer. Adam is a former soldier and a member of the SAS. Trails lead first to the smugglers and then to the hospital. Adam retrieves some of the victims leaving a trail of bodies along the way.
He has thought that someone in this trafficking web murdered his friend but then we are hit with a sudden and unexpected twist.
I recommend this novel but it is not for the queasy or faint of heart.
This is the latest in the Adam Black series but reads well as a standalone. Black is a former Captain of the SAS and has skills! He knows how to kill and is called upon here to do just that.
A prominent Human Rights lawyer is murdered whilst out jogging. As a friend of Black's his wife asks him to investigate the murder and find out why he was killed and by whom.
This leads Adam Black into the seedy world of trafficking and some very serious players. Black is not shy at going in where it hurts and does just that as he tries to get to the bottom of his friends demise.
This is fast paced and full of twists and turns as well as violence. An utterly enthralling read.
Thanks to Bloodhound Books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this suspenseful story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorite. This is a well written story that has twists and turns that had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. This is a story about murder and secrets plus these things could get you get killed. I enjoyed how I was pulled into the story from the start. The characters not only brought the story to life but i had no problem picturing myself in the story. They are great connectable, strong and supportive characters. i enjoyed watching them grow throughout. This is fast paced story that was hard to put down. An engaging story you dont want to miss. I really enjoyed this book and this author's writing skills. I highly recommend this book.
Overall 4.5* Although book 5 in the series, it easily reads as a standalone as there are enough references to the previous ones to make an educated guess as to what happened. I hadn't read any before however I will now go back to catch up! The book may not be to everyone's taste as there is quite a bit of violence in them but if you want something to read that is a bit more gruesome, then this is a book for you. Fast paced with no let ups, you are carried along with the story not quite sure where it is going and has a great twist at the end too.
I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Karl Hill’s books in his Adam Black series, and this was no exception, the same calibre and excitement as all the rest. The storylines is great and as with all the books it just grabs you from the start and doesn’t let go. I find myself completely lost in the story and devour it in one go time permitting. I won’t write about the storyline as so many other reviews do, where as I feel if the blurb is good enough to peak your interest then you don’t need a re-tell in the review. I will say you are in for a great read and if you haven’t read the previous books then do so.
I loved this. It's real edge of your seat stuff, starting off with the murder of a human rights lawyer which brings Adam Black into the story, and involving several other threads with people smuggling and black market organ harvesting, and people intent on tying up all loose ends.
It's roars along at a terrific pace, and is full of violence. I read it in a day as I couldn't tear myself away. There are references to Adam's previous past but this can be read as a standalone. In fact this is the first I have read and am so hooked that I will now seek out the prior books to read.
Having read a couple of Adam Black books before, I had an idea about his back story but not all of it. It didn’t matter as it can easily be read as a stand alone book as there are lots of references to the past.
A human rights lawyer is murdered and this links into lots of other threads and gangs. People smuggling is at the heart of this book and it can be quite upsetting when you realise what is going on. The book still grips you though and makes you root for Adam and his crusade for justice.
Adam Black is ex SAS he is asked by his friend's wife to look into his death. Desmond Gallagher was shot to death whilst on a run near his home. He was a human rights lawyer and his wife thinks he was killed because of this. Adam agrees to speak to look into the death. This leads him to be threatened - not a good thing to do. His investigation leads him to money laundering and human trafficking. There are bodies along the way, but is he any nearer to finding out who and why his friend was killed?
What a ride this book takes you on, in fact the 5 books take you on. If I could give each book 10 stars, I would, and deservedly so. The short choppy sentences are the difference that makes a difference for me. Each one so definitive. Adam Black is captivating who brutally takes the lives of those who take lives of innocent people, and yet Adam Black is the most likeable charachter. You read this routing for him to keep going, he knows and understands personal loss and your heart aches. There was one part where I found myself saying, "Oh No!" out loud, which I can't elaborate on or it will spoil it for others. I'm so sad to have read this book so quickly and can't wait for book 6. Karl Hill I salute you on yet another excellent, expertly plotted, riveting story.
An action-packed thriller SAS veteran Adam Black is good at killing people - and he enjoys it. Since the murder of his wife and Black he enjoys killing bad guys so, when the widow of a murdered friend asks for help, he is soon in pursuit of the killers. What follows is an action-packed, often violent thriller, that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I read this as a standalone and look forward to reading the earlier books in the series.
Wow! This book exceeded my expectations, there was enough description to make the scenes and people vivid in my imagination but not so much that it overshadowed the story. There are a lot of people in this book, the author cleverly portrayed them in a manner that was gripping and made me not want to put it down. Loved the twists and turns.
Another great read with the very welcome return of Adam Black. Non stop action and almost impossible to put down. I have read all of the books in this series and I have not been disappointed with any of them. A big thank you to the author Karl Hill and I look forward to the next book. From me, a well deserved 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Good action and love it when bad guys fair poorly. Black takes no prisoners and combined with his personal losses acts like a man who cares not if he lives or not. A couple of spots seemed fast fetched, but it's a book meant to entertain. This book will be recommended to my friend who enjoy this genre as much as I do. A bit of Jack Reacher.
finale by Karl Hill. Adam Black is back. he atends the funeral of an old friend. the wife of his old friend asks him to find out who killed him. All she has is a file called the remus syndicate. Will he find out who murdered his friend? brilliant read. love Adam. twisty. I do hope there is more to come. 5*.
Once I read the first page I was hooked. I could not out the book down until I had finished it. What a great story with plenty of evil characters for Adam to deal with and one that moved at a rally fast pace. Looking forward to reading more by Karl.
This is an excellent series, very well written, with some complex and interesting characters. It was very engrossing and had me on the edge of my seat. I do hope there are more Adam Black books on the way.
Wasn't sure I was going to enjoy this after the first few chapters, bit vigilante for me too much killing. But I never like to leave a book once I've started reading and guess what.....it grew on me. Really enjoyed it. If you font like vigilante style books still give it a try I did and was pleasantly surprised. Well written Karl, I need to read more.
