Las Vegas is known as Sin City. And what happens in Vegas usually stays in Vegas. But someone in the city has powers that allow them to strike anywhere in the world and take lives - for a price. Jack Nightingale has a track record of dealing with occult killers and so far he has always come out on top. But this time the only way to find the killer is to set himself up as bait. And this might be the time when his luck finally runs out. PRAISE FOR THE JACK NIGHTINGALE SERIES 'Written with panache, and a fine ear for dialogue, Leather manages the collision between the real and the occult with exceptional skill' Daily Mail 'Another great thriller from Stephen Leather but this time with a devilish twist!' James Herbert ‘A stunning masterclass in darkness from a ferocious talent who excels in putting the devil in the details’ Daily Record ‘A wicked read’ Anthony Horowitz

When I first started this series it quickly became one of my favourites and was easily in my top 10. But the last few books just haven't been of the same calibre in my opinion. This one was kind of interesting but whereas I normally read these books in one sitting, this one just couldn't hold my attention. That being said there were a couple of zingers that I didn't see. Also very surprisingly there were a couple of spelling mistakes in this one.
It was actually great getting back into a Nightingale story with Thornley on the mic and set in my favourite city made it even better. Although, the story was probably only a 3-and-a-half star rating as it was a bit repetitive and didn't come close to the first and third books in the series. I love Stephen's work, and am almost convinced he does his own proof reading and editing otherwise it's impossible to explain how many details slip through the net. American 'Airways'? Really? Lol. Also, both the deaths of his parents and his best friend were changed again compared to the original book and I'm surprised this wasn't picked up on. Anyway, a good book in the series, just not the best. Excellently read by Paul Thornley.
Much as I have always enjoyed Stephen Leather's books, sadly this one for me was nowhere near his best,I have read all the Jack Nightingale's, but this felt very much a teenage fiction book, and to me was seemingly written in a rush, I may have been unfair in comparing the brilliant supernatural thrillers of John Connolly and Charlie Parker, but this book was certainly not in the same league . Perhaps because it has been a while since Jack Nightingale has made an appearance, this is the most disappointing book of Mr Leather's I have read.
The Jack Nightingale fight against evil trying for absolute power continues this time in Las Vegas. This time he goes up against an Egyptian Magician using a messenger of death. Jack has protection from a demon. Jack learns he is too trusting later on. He uses the lust for power to trick the Magician and to save his own life. The episode is fast paced and action packed. The book is very good. Fans of the series will be happy. I would highly recommend the book and series.
I remember the reading the 1st 3 books and I thought the plot had ran out of ideas. 7 books on and these books and short stories have became a firm.favourite with me. Love the humour, the characters and the storylines. Loads of imagination and occult.research.. A good.read.fpr.amyo.e
Surprisingly, this last instalment was not as repetitive as the previous two. I kept waiting for the common reusable one liners, but they did not make an appearance. Although I would not necessarily read it again, it let me while away the hours during my flight. The audiobook narration provided by Paul Thornley was familiar in a comforting way. This was a 2.5 stars for me. Okay and then some.
I’ve enjoyed all the Jack Nightingale books so far and this one was no exception. Wainwright asks Jack to help him but doesn’t realise his life may be under threat. When Jack fully understands what he’s got involved he has to trust that his protection will work. There’s someone using Egyptian magic to kill people and Jack could be next. This is a gripping thriller that I really enjoyed.
Brilliantly written as expected from this thrilling author. A whirlwind enjoyment Wedgwood triumphs over evil, yet again. Lovely fast paced band unputdownable. Can't wait for more of the same.
Stephen Leather on top form with this Jack Nightingale thriller. Las Vegas is his port of call on this occasion and after the zombies of New Orleans, he has to deal with some serious dark magic of Egyptian vintage, linked to a stage show in Sin City.
Cannot believe Stephen Leather wrote this. If it had been a paperback I would have a very appropriate use for it. I deserve a medal for reading it to the end. Or sectioning for being stupid enough to waste so much time on this tripe
I've been waiting for this book to come out for ages and it did not disappoint. Only thing that would have made it better would have been more of prosperine.
