Ruination

Rate this book
Montana calls to him and all he wants is to take his family home.

Rafe Duncan isn't the oldest of his siblings, but he felt the pressure of responsibility just the same. He dedicated his life to keeping their family compound running and his goal was to get them back there, alive.

At the beginning of the zombie apocalypse, Rafe couldn’t have foreseen what was to come. As he watched society break down, bringing his family together was his first goal. Now after all they had lost, he wanted safety for them all.

‘The Suit’ stood between the Duncans and freedom. The self appointed government leader had taken much from them in the beginning months of the apocalypse and he continued to be looming danger over their heads.

As the Duncans try to make plans to get home, ‘The Suit’ creates chaos by kidnapping one of their own. Rafe will stop at nothing to get back what has been taken from him and is determined to end the threat to his family.

Rafe knows, not everyone will survive the apocalypse.

As a child, Courtney always had aspirations of being a writer. She participated in journalism in school. At home, she wrote short stories, poetry and filled diary pages. Somewhere along the line becoming an adult took priority over her writing and she went to work in business operations.

Now as a mother to three beautiful children, she tells them all the time to follow their dreams, be whatever they want. Those lessons reminded her how much she loved writing. She finally opened the door to making writing a real priority in her life.

Living outside of Portland, Oregon she loves the green and beauty Oregon offers. When she’s not matching wits with her children, her crazy Siberian Husky or her bi-polar cats, she enjoys binge reading, hikes and touring wineries. Courtney and her husband, the love of her life, enjoy traveling the world whenever they can get a free moment. And cruises….she loves cruising. She’s especially fond of life, laughter and sarcasm – and she’s excited to share all of that and more with her readers!

Being that this is the last book in the series I wasn’t too sure how the author was going to wrap it up, never expecting that one of our much loved characters was going to die had tears pouring down my face. It felt like I was grieving a family member.

I really enjoyed this series and am forever thankful to the person who recommended it.
I loved how we learnt how the virus came about, and where it originated from, most zombie stories don’t delve into that, and still we don’t know if Charlie was any closer to finding a curer. But I’m glad their journey led them back to the compound.

I also loved how each sibling was dedicated their own book, I loved each of them equally, and Storm the husky which became a big part of this story.

After reading and inhaling all 6 books I’m keen to jump into others this author has written.

This book left me broken. I spent the last few chapters and Alex's letters sobbing my eyes out. I was introduced to zombie books with Alex. I am sad that she was killed in the rescue of Charlie. Sad to see the series end that started my love of zombies. If you haven't read the Authors note, do so. I really hope this isn't the end. Overall this was one hell of a ride.

Best series ever!

The author really draws you into the story. You become invested in the characters like you know them. You'll root for them and cry for them. If you like zombie apocalypse stories, this is one you will want to read.

THAT ENDING! I am not okay.

This series was actually a lot more fun than I thought it would be, especially considering that Zombie apocalypse is not usually a sub-genre I'm particularly interested in!

I don't generally leave reviews because words fail me. I did want to leave a review about this book and this series though. This series is BY FAR my VERY FAVORITE books. I've read this entire series at least three times in a year. I waited very impatiently for this final installment to see what happens to my book family.

I'm not upset about the ending. Okay, that's a little bit of a lie. I have to say, I knew it was going to be Alex. I just knew going in that Alex wasn't going to make it. I was really sad that it was her. I know everyone really favors Max and I love her too...Alex was always my favorite, I think because I relate to her the most. As the oldest sister, everything Alex did for her family made sense to me. How she fought, how she loved, how she led...it all spoke to me. Her death, also made sense. It seemed fitting that Alex would AGAIN put herself in front of her family, to save them. But, I hated it. I know not everyone is going to make it through but damnit, why Alex?

Overall, I'm happy with how this series wrapped up. My heart hurts for the Duncans but I know they'll survive.

I will, hands down, forever hold this series close to my heart. I started it on my trip to Alaska and devoured every book while I was there. I look forward to someday owning them in "real" book form to add to my collection.

Oh, this is the last book in the series. The Duncans and friends have one more task to complete until they can feel safe (as much as they can be). As usual, there is awesome teamwork and a lot of action!

The ending has left me heartbroken. With this said, it was still a great book and really, overall, a great series!

Wish I could give more stars

Courtney Konstantin is one he'll of an author. The story flows so smoothly and all of the protagonists seem like family. I just wish the series could go on much longer.

So sad this is the end of the Sundown series.

I absolutely adore this family and am so sad to see it end. The Duncan's have a place on my bookshelf forever.

I am not sure how I’m supposed to write a review through the tears streaming down my face.
Flip. What an ending. No spoilers.

But if you haven’t started this yet, don’t, not yet, go back and reread the previous books. I wish I had to make it last a bit longer.

Beautifully written.

The Duncans have my heart!

I do hope the author visits them again in the future.
I will definitely join her.

was not expecting that ending

If you choose to read this series, you won’t be disappointed.
Some of my favorite genres brought together in a recipe that was “chef’s kiss” amazing…

Found Family
Thriller
Survival
Action
Adventure
Suspense
Romance
Post Apocalyptic
Zombies

This has been an amazing series, one I’m not soon to forget, and I am sad to see it end. I felt like every character was family and that was probably one my favorite things about it.
This is a family that loves hard and fights hard for each other while they try to survive the unthinkable. The way this group of survivors comes together as a “found family” as if they were always a part of each other’s life, is a large part of what made this story so great.
The battle scenes were written so brilliantly, I felt like I was there and seeing it with my own eyes. Though, I did have to skim some of the scenes because it was a little to real at times and more than I could handle, but I knowingly chose a zombie apocalypse book so I can’t complain when it gets gruesome, as it’s to be expected.
I would love to see this series continue and see this family continue to bring people together as they work to make a brighter future for themselves and their children.
I will be watching for more from this author.

Overall, I enjoyed this series but this was such a disappointing finale. Spoilers below -
-------------------------------------------------------------------

There were some plot holes present in earlier books that I let slide thinking they could be addressed in the finale. However, this final chapter felt a bit out of left field to me and left us scratching our heads at so many major plot points from before. Yes, the big death at the end might upset some, but that didn't bother me as much as:
1) Why did the victim at the end who was always prepared for everyhing - go into the battle with no weapon? They wouldn't.
2) Why make it such a major plot point that East was immune to the bites/disease only to literally not do anything at all with his character after?
3) For the love of God, after 6 books discussing 'the cure' to not even address anything about a cure in the finale? Was she still working on it? Decided not to at all? Sure, the suit was evil, but having a cure for the disease is NOT! The series made it feel that as soon as the suit was gone, poof - no need to work on the cure (even with an immune person that could provide blood samples).

Honestly, I’m so mad this ended the way it did.

Literally after this whole time and that’s how we end it?? I feel betrayed.

But, that being said, for this being the last book in the series it did tie everything up rather nicely.

SPOILER FOR THE SERIES, but not the book after this…..

The one thing I wish we saw was more about Easton being immune? You mean to tell me we have someone immune to the virus and do absolutely nothing with that information?! They took out The Suit. Charlie should have gone to the lab and made a vaccine or something. I can’t believe that thread was left unfollowed tbh. With everything else in this series working out perfectly (random dog shows up that is basically a professional zombie hunter [thank you for not killing off the husky haha] Easton getting bit and miraculously being immune and so my other things) it’s crazy that story line wasn’t seen through.

Over all this was a really good zombie series. For sure worth the read! Probably would have been a 5 star series if it was in first person POV 😅

Aw, man. If you like an action-packed zombie apocalypse story—and I'm sure not many of you are raising your hands—this one was great. I never felt any slow parts in any of the books. It all moved at a great pace, and I loved reading every single book! They're all currently available on Kindle Unlimited—get that free trial and tear through it!!

I love zombie apocalypse books!! Recommend them to me if you are reading this and if you raised your hand while reading the first part of this review. My family makes fun of me, but whatever - it's so much fun to read!

Back to the book, the author really wrapped up the series in a way that left no lingering questions but was also open enough to continue the story—should she wish to do so. The last book had me crying, which also made my family mock me even more. I'm not even a little bit embarrassed. I loved it.

I loved, loved, loved this series by Konstantin. Ruination must absolutely be read in order to see the Montana family take down "The Suit". The end of the Sundown Series comes full circle with more of a focus on Rafe. Although we've seen his character all throughout this novel really focuses on his inner turmoil of raising Aiden, the child he and Charlie found, ending the virus, but also being a protector of his two sisters and all the family they have made.

Konstantin brought together all the wonderful characters again to remind you of what made them special. Love, new life, and loss are all at the forefront of this impeccable novel. I was sad to see it end, but am very excited to see what's next for this author.

Wow.

Never before has a zombie series made me cry. This one made me cry twice. And this particular book made me bawl. I’m in awe of the skills that takes. You really fall in love with all of the characters and the entire series is probably in my top five for zombies/post apocalypse books. I read a lot of zombie books so that’s definitely impressive. I do wish the narrator for the audiobooks was someone other than Tess Irondale. She narrates another one of my favorite zombie series and it blurs the lines between them for me a little. She’s definitely skilled though. I think the author does an amazing job of immersing you into The Duncan’s world and dare I say into their family. Overall, read this book. It’s worth it and if you have kindle unlimited it’s free.

This might be the best book of the entire series but omg the ending!
I love that we finally get to see how other people are surviving and that we get to see the family in new settings. We also finally get the big showdown and get to see more into the mindset of the suit. The story is perfection, the writing just as amazing as before, and the whole yanking my emotions up and down was next level.
There were also scenes in this book that made me feel like I was seeing the worlds from The Glass series by Maria V Snyder and The City series by Sarah Lyons Fleming but all mixed together and fit into this world.

Main characters do not have to Die!

When will writers get it through their head, that it’s still a good story when everyone lives! Loved the series but hate the authors choices on who to kill. To me, it would have made more sense just to wound them and let them live and now that a full working lab was available and with Easton’s blood could have found a cure. This was never addressed again. Oh well it was a good series other m than my dissatisfaction with who got killed. Read the series and leave your reviews:

What a Series!!

As usual for me, I read all 6 books before my review.
This one was remarkable!! You NEVER know what's going to happen. I wish the homestead was real because I would visit it. It was so real to me. Every suscuessful author makes you feel like you were inside the stories. I was there!
I hope there is a revisit so I can read about the kids when they grow up.
If you like having the author rip out your guts and making you feel like a member of the family then this one's for you!!

well thanks for that

As someone who has never cried over a character that’s exactly what I did today. Cried over a beloved character. I’m not sure what to say to Courtney Konstantin about that fact. Can’t say thanks because I wasn’t expecting this death. I’ve read some other reviews and believed it was someone else, boy was I wrong 😑 oh so very wrong.
Courtney Konstantin you have now set a very high bar for your next series - I just hope you know that.

A heart breaking ending to this series that had me hooked through the main character from the very beginning. But so much left open… how is this really going to end because this can not be the end only the beginning of the journey. Will there be a cure? What is the impact and outcome of the fast zombies.. where will it all end up so many new faces in this book and know we have to wait to see what role they will play in the future

Great series!

I really enjoyed this whole series!

Spoiler-

-in this last book someone dies. Someone important dies. Usually I get so mad at the author when a character dies but for some reason it just makes sense in this book. It just feels right. Not just because it’s a zom-poc book…it just feels right in general. Like it has to happen for there to be a conclusion.

Hands down best Family ever

We could all stand to be like the Duncan's, taking on the punches of the world and getting back up.

Truly in my top favorite series.
Does not disappoint.
Emotional, gripping, and real. Characters feel like someone you know or even yourself.

Family dynamics are messy and it is no different in the Z apocalypse only thisntime the grit that messed you up as children will be what help you survive, bitter sweet.

We want a better life for our children going forward, and this series shows how Family is more than blood. Thick and thin. Hands down love this series. I haven't cried in forever over characters in a book I cried alot in this series.

Thank you for writing this.

This is one of my favorite apocalyptic series. The author made these characters so real, their sibling love, the struggles getting to the compound, and what they endured during and after. What I was not happy about was the ending why oh why did it have to end that way.
The narration of this story was well done.

WOW

What an amazing adventure this has been. I shed tears with this last book and I’m sure everyone who has been along for the entire series did as well. More importantly I’m satisfied with how things concluded and if we never get another entry this series ended the way it should have.

Ruination (Sundown Series Book 6)

Wow, it was quite a ride! All the peaks and valleys! Wow! Lots to take in in book 6, hopefully it will all fall into place. Loved the books, enjoyed the characters (even the ones that didn't make it!)

But it was wild lots of action lots of emotion, wild!

Thanks to the author, it was really an enjoyable read.
