This volume suffers from an extended absence of the villain as the authorities on his tail get bogged down first in a distraction and then a HAZMAT situation.

Also, I find it increasingly annoying that in a police procedural where everyone plays it all stiff and professional, all big emotions have been assigned to the sole female police detective because, well, sexism. She also gets to regularly remind the lead detective how smart and important he is.

There's only one volume left, so I'll be back for the conclusion despite my reservations about this entry.

FOR REFERENCE:

"The enemy we’re dealing with is powerful, intelligent, very active, and above all determined. This guy commits crimes for ideological reasons…. Don’t get swept up by his ideas."

I swear, this series gets crazier and crazier as I read on. It’s a highly bizarre read and one I can’t wait to finish. Don’t know where this is going, all I know is that I’m excited to find out.

So our little brain worms have grown up, becoming a mosquito swarm that will spread the lobotomizing parasites through Japan. In this second of three volumes, Tetsuya Tsutsui gives us more context on who brought them out of Africa, and what exactly they do to the human mind. It's still a disturbing read, but the quirks of the characters tone down and the use of gore is less effective. The story itself out, evident in the overuse of exaggerated faces. It's funny, because this also features by far some of the best art of the series, including one panel of an Escher-like perspective drawing, the panel itself drawn from a skewed perspective. In general, you can see how the art is at its best in minimalism, with use of shadow, or a hand trying to crawl from around a door. When you don't see it all, it's viciously effective. This one earned huge credit for, in sequential chapters, teasing and dismissing a ridiculous fate for one of the characters, and then going ahead and doing something even more ridiculous. The fundamental and unspoken humor in this thing persists, in increasingly subtle forms that constantly act to disarm.

This manga is a mix of detective, psychological and horror. It has a good story-line that progresses at an even pace if it can at times be a little predictable and characters are slowly developed throughout..

The art is generally good and at some points can be amazing while at other times lacking detail. It's a relatively short manga and definitely worth the read. Recommended

Extrait :

I feel like this second volume toned down a bit the (body) horror, while amplifying the human side of the story, with the plot focusing more in the causes, effects and consequences of the biohazard threat, and moreover in the fight against them, and a little bit less in the investigation part and the whole plan behind this crisis, as well as its mastermind... except for the very end of the story, of course.

In any case, this is still extremely engaging and entertaining, not to mention terrifying, given the kind of realistic and 'natural' nature of the whole thing.

Good stuff, looking forward to volume 3, which also happens to be the last volume in the series. No dragging matters here!

A comic about some crazy, unseen guy who's trying to start a pandemic with infected mosquitos for unknown reasons. They carry infected worms that crawl under the skin up into the right eye driving the person into basically, a type of zombie. The story is told from the point of view of 2 police investigators trying to determine what is really going on. It's solid. Some of the translations at time seem a little trite and the art transfers look rough at times but it's still interesting enough to hold my attention.

This series is way better than I expected, I had some expectations going in but the graphic art and story just work so well. As someone who has a fear of diseases and anything to do with eyes this just hits me differently.
I was lucky enough to find the first two volumes and finished them both in a day. Can’t wait to read the third one and more from this author!

Man, this second volume really raises that itchy factor. Truly shows how pandemic horror is practical horror. Things are going wrong, but it’s not like they cannot be fixed. The infected aren’t particularly dangerous, but you feel bad. It’s really a great read, the tension of a spreading disease is just as good as the tension of a stalking killer.

It's still continuing with the same interesting premise and I find the whole mystery surrounding mosquitos and how they function to be very interesting, but, it felt like some parts of this chapter were shoe-horned in unnecessarily or rather brought in last minute. I think this might be my last volume of this story for the meantime.

As a Southeast Asian, a horde of mosquitoes is the greatest swarm horror. Nothing like the feeling of helplessness to mix it in with.

Again, I didn't like the saturation of the investigation and info dumping compared to the horrors of the people. It just takes away the feeling of unease.

This volume definitely seems like it's just meant to bridge the gap between the first volume and the conclusion. We don't learn much more but with the way it ended, I'm hoping for a very interesting last volume.

Tsutsui's attention to detail, and commitment to realism, makes this story far more interesting and fascinating than I thought it would be. The characters are very well written, the illustrations are beautifully haunting, and the narrative has me hooked. Thoroughly enjoying this series

This is my kind of manga. It's horrorific, and creepy with an act of bioterrorism. Definitely check it out.
