As the self-proclaimed “Black Sheep” of his family, Jaxon Beckett is used to pissing people off and being misunderstood. His entire life, he has used bluntness and sarcasm to hide from recognition and praise, turning deflection and distraction into an artform. At his core, the real Jaxon leads with a heart of gold and loves deeply. His love of his family, his purpose as a lethal member of a special ops team, and his passion for people are what make him who he really is. The only thing missing is someone who can see past the facade he creates and can love and appreciate him. Flaws and all.
As a Shaw Creek local and family friend, Delaney James has seen far too many men like Jaxon pass through her town. His ease, charm, and talent for befriending everyone is wasted on her, as the two of them seem to only be able to bicker and fight whenever they’re around each other. A spitfire to her core, Delaney hates everything Jaxon represents, and she has sworn off men who use looks and charisma to get what they want or to hide who they are. The problem keeping her up at night: the more she’s around Jaxon, the more she notices that he might not be the bad guy she needs him to be.
With time being a commodity they’re quickly running out of, Jaxon and his brothers are tasked with getting information out of Ava Andino. What should be an easy assignment, getting the pampered wife of their adversary to spill secrets is turning out to be way more difficult than expected or planned for. Is she the key to their investigation, or is she merely another pawn in her husband’s dangerous game? What is becoming clear is that she is not what any of them believed her to be.
With danger closing in from all sides, the threat to Jaxon and his family rises with each day that passes. Known enemies, powerful enemies, are joining forces to stop at nothing to find Ava and protect their empire.
The clock is ticking as Jaxon finds his place within the team and takes on new roles to gain information, while personally his need to get close to Delaney and prove himself grows. If only she would give him a chance.
Shaw Creek Special Ops Series: 1. Aiden 2. Jaxon 3. Mason 4. Rhett 5. Will
I want to preface this by saying I was a beta/ARC reader for this book but my opinions are my own…
Spoiler free plot line: As one of the 5 special ops team members working to take down a large and dangerous human/sex trafficking ring, Jaxon is constantly trying to lighten up any situation while making sure to protect those important to him. Considered around town as the comic relief playboy, is there more than meets the eye? Local bar owner Delaney doesn’t think so which causes them to continually butt heads. As the Alpha Team continue their mission to take down Gabriel Andino, we learn more about his wife Ava, the lengths men will go for what they want, and how strongly the Beckett (and Samuelson) men can love.
Initially I thought of Jaxon (the character) as just the comic relief, smartass brother with not much substance to him. After reading this book, DO NOT blindly trust first impressions! The character grew on me so much and he became a little dynamic. This series is proving that there is so much that we still have to learn not just about the brothers but also Ava. Jaxon gives us a little more development of Ava as a character along with a small glimpse of her past. This book will have you laughing, crying, rushing to take cold shower (Jaxon and Delaney together… that’s all I will say about that), and everything in between. Jaxon does have a little darker scenes than Aiden which could be triggering but it will constantly have you rooting for the Beckett’s more than ever before. Seeing all the characters start to really come into their own makes me so excited for not only Mason’s book but all the others.
D. Lynnette tells a story that brings the reader right into the middle of the Shaw Creek world. Her descriptive language and word choice makes it extremely easy for a reader to feel connected to each character in some way. The characters all have a depth to them no matter how big or how small of a role they have in the story. While this story covers the very serious job our military teams have tracking down and capturing members of the human trafficking world, there are moments of comedic relief, wholesome family vibes, and lots of steam in the romance department. This is the second book in the series and while the first installment creates this world for the reader in Shaw Creek and draws a connection with both the mission and the characters being developed, this second installment picks up the pace of the story and draws you deeper into the heart of the mission and the Beckett family. It’s wonderfully written and easy to lose yourself in this world. I would highly recommend readers check out this series and fall in love with the Beckett Brothers and their family, significant others and their mission to make the world a safer place one vile human trafficker at a time.
Ahh...the Beckett world. It's addicting. I enjoyed getting to know Jaxon and Delaney this time around. I loved the affection and vulnerability that Jaxon showed, really that all of them showed. It was refreshing to see that they can be tough, but loving and caring at the same time. Delainey was such a strong character and relatable.
I experienced a rollercoaster of emotions while reading and look forward to reading the next book in the series. There is a bit of language and some open-door bedroom scenes.
Rating: R -violence, open-door scenes, language Language: profanity throughout Recommend: yes
I laughed so hard thru most of this book Jaxon and Delaney's story if full of smart quips, inuendoes and straight up laughs. There is sex scene thatare really hot and steamy and loving. There is a couple of chapters were I cried for the Beckett family, Brynn, Delaney and Ivy. I highly recommend this book and series. D Lynnette captures your attention fro. The firstchapter and you can't put the book down until you finish.
D. Lynnette introduced us to the intriguing family and special ops crew of the Becketts in Aiden and continues their mission in this follow up novel based on the second oldest brother, Jaxon.
Jaxon and Delaney’s unspeakable attraction was teased to us readers in the series book 1 and continues to tantalize the reader through the interesting minds of the two characters.
Jaxon [the book] is packed full of smiles, laughs, heartache, and memorial moments that will have you musing about the scenes long after you’ve put the book down. The story is told in a smooth and quickly paced storyline that has you pretty anxious for the next book but also doesn’t leave the reader dragging by in progress to finish the story. Basically, good luck putting it down.
I had the privilege of reading this book as a ARC/Beta Reader and I could not stop reading. The characters jump off the page. I've never read a writer that captures the essence of characters the way that D. Lynette does, especially with such an ensemble cast. You got to know them in the first book but you will definitely grow to love these characters ...or hate them in this one. This book really does have it all; action, suspense, mystery and just enough romance to make you fall in love with yet another Beckett brother . I know I did!
This book was even better than the first in the series: "Aiden: Beckett Brothers Book One (Shaw Creek Special Ops)" More mystery and suspense...absolutely! More romance...definitely! More steamy sex...mission accomplished! I would highly recommend this book to anyone and I am not receiving any compensation of any kind for saying that. I truly believe this an excellent book, especially if you are looking for a romance that is a little out of the norm.
D. Lynette is an amazingly talented writer and I can't wait for book 3!
Oh guys…this book, this series….wow. My favorite series ever by a landslide. These characters are the stuff dreams are made of, I want to be a part of this family with every ounce of my being. Couldn’t put this one down from the moment It was released. D Lynnette has a gift…a remarkable gift where she creates these characters that worm their way into your heart and never actually leave. I cannot wait until each book is released..I’ve never wanted so much more from a series ever. Until Then I’ll keep rereading Aiden and Jaxon so I can continue being in Shaw Creek with these guys!
Ok thought Aiden was the best, but Jaxon just took my breath away, great family and storyline fell right in to place, wonderful series, the next book is Mason March 23,,,cannot wait, already read Jaxon twice,D. LYNNETTE,,,you are amazing.
Just when I thought I couldn't love the Beckett crew any more than I already did...along came Book 2 in the Shaw Creek series!
Full disclosure: I came into this book already loving Jaxon Beckett. That being said...you will fall in love with him too, I can guarantee it. The jokester in Book 1 (who made it easy to make assumptions about him) proves to be SO much more, and to be able to read from his POV and experience his relationships with his brothers, his mother, the kids and especially Delaney, Ivy and Ava warms your heart. He's the guy you love to be wrong about.
I ended up finishing with even more questions than I had answers (well done, D. Lynnette! Lol ) and again not wanting to leave the world of Shaw Creek. I'm completely invested in this family and their well-being, I'm worried and excited about their future, and I cannot WAIT for Mason's book next year!
LOVED! I really enjoyed the first book of this series and this is an incredible follow up. No sophomore slump here!!! Jaxon’s POV is clear and distinct from Aiden’s but the book still feels very much like a continuation of the story. While the characters are different, thus giving us a different POV, the feeling is familiar in the best way possible.
If you are a fan of witty banter and the snap, crackle, and pop of flirting then you are in for a treat with Jaxon and Delaney. Jaxon's way of keeping things light and breaking the tension do little to conceal the caring, loving man he truly is. Getting in his head and learning more about him was a delight. Can't wait to see more of him in the rest of the series.
Already eagerly looking forward to the next installment in Shaw Creek.
I did not know a whole lot going into the series but at this point I realized we were focusing on one couple per book and then that couple kind of fades not necessarily into the background but less the focal point. That makes sense but after this book I have a few times wondered WHERE IS POPPY? WHAT HAPPENED TO POPPY? That is one area I would have liked to see developed a little more but there is a LOT going on in these books and I get that we can't experience every single little subplot to the extreme levels that my questioning nature would like. Where is Jamison? Who is Jamison? ... WHY IS JAMISON? Would love to know, but that is not the focus here and I have become distracted. Anyway.
At this point I am getting comfy comf with the family and Shaw Creek. Want my own little tiny house on the property. Have decided that if any of my children miss Sunday dinner I will threaten them. Constance is an inspiration. A hero. The End.

Book 2 of the Shaw Creek Series focuses on one of my favorite brothers - Jaxon. His humor and warmth continued from book 1 into this book while also showing more to his personality. He made me smile and laugh - even tear up a time or 2. And watching Delaney give as good as she got made me laugh out loud!!! Such a great continuation of this series!!! The mystery continues to grow around the villain - Gabriel Andino - and I continue to root for his downfall!! Bring on book 3!!!!
Book 2 is just as great as book one! The dynamic and the fire between Jaxson and Delaney is incredible. He has a way with people and in this book it shows it. Him with Ava is also a different side of him that I love seeing. If you have not read this series I would definitely recommend it.

What an amazing continuation of the series! The character point of view transition while also progressing the overall story is seamless. I highly recommend this series!
A second chance to dive into the Beckett world as an ARC/Beta reader and a second opportunity to be drawn into a story that entertains and leaves you laughing!
Jaxon may have been a side character in his brother Aiden’s story, but given the chance to take center stage in his own book, he truly shines! His story of understanding his worth to his team and his family combined with coming to understand how he can actually maintain a relationship is both charming and highly amusing. Add in the spitfire that is Delaney James and her discovery that Jaxon Beckett may not be what he seems, and you have one delightful, fiery romance!
All of this plays out against the background of the ever-growing threat that has loomed since book one and the knowledge provided by their star witness, who’s coming to show them she may also be a mystery they didn’t completely understand.
There certainly is no sophomore slump here as the Beckett story grows and grows and D. Lynnette has once again shown her prowess as a story-spinner! It’s hard not to get sucked into the world and to want to desperately know how this is all going to play out!
Disclaimer: This review is a personal opinion and was not paid for!
This second book in the Beckett Brothers series is *chef kiss*. D. Lynnette has written one of my favorite cinnamon rolls and it is very easy to keep him as a book boyfriend. Jaxon Beckett is the perfect mix of spicy and sweet. This story has everything: a sassy heroine, a super action packed rescue mission, an amazing family and a Dino onesie. Definitely a great second book in the series!
