Five yen for your wish to come true? Revisit the Far Shore in new edition of the beloved supernatural action series that collects all the stray volumes in 600-page 3-in-1 omnibuses, all in a larger size than the regular version!
Includes Vol. 4-6 of Stray God .
SINISTER SHINKI Though she is a powerful warrior goddess, Bishamonten suffers from taking on so many shinki. Among Bishamon’s many shinki, a terrible plan is formed by one of her most trusted aides. This shinki has dangerous ideas and gets involved with the mysterious Stray. Kazuma has a sense that something is wrong, but can he figure out what exactly is going on? Meanwhile, Hiyori desperately wants Yato to fix her, but he is presented with a solution that is hard to accept. Will Yato fix Hiyori, even if it means he’d have to cut all ties with her?
I’m still only giving this 4 stars, but I think vols 4-6 are a noticeable improvement over 1-3. The cast still absolutely bleeds character, and the humor is still there, but the emotional undercurrent of the series keeps getting stronger.
Yato reminds me of Luffy insomuch that despite being the protagonist, he often takes a bit of a backseat to his ensemble. In that way, Yato is developed by the choices made around him and how he reacts instead of making the choices himself (think of the Arlong Park walk. Luffy does nothing, going so far as to walk away and not hear Nani’s backstory, allowing her to come to him instead. His blind faith in her choice says so much more than him doing anything himself). Yato’s Arlong Park is his actions with Bishomen both in the past and present. Maybe not the perfect comparison, but there’s a resonance there that could be discussed.
All of this to say that Adachitoka is trending upwards and I really loved this series of events (idk if it’s an arc on its own lol).
This volume made my heart bleed. I forgot how emotional this can get 😭 This is more action-packed than the first volume, but the funny scenes aren't missing. Although, this one focuses on the character's pain, which is portrayed in such a realistic manner.....
read this a few days ago because i found it at a bookstore and now im finally getting more volumes other than just 1, 2, and 3. i really love this series so much, so ive basically just been reading these omnibuses the past few days. >:3
DNF at volume 6. I'm not attached to any of the characters, I don't particularly like the art style and there is too much emphasis on the underwear of a 14-year-old girl.
As anyone who has made it to the second omnibus would know the setting so far is an urban fantasy (which I tend to dislike), but from what I can gather from the synopses of further volumes and the last few chapters of the story, that I read in my despair to find any motivation to continue the series,
There looks to be a somewhat interesting plot concerning the main conflict of the series, but since I couldn't get into the characters for 6 volumes and I don't enjoy the magic system (while I appreciate the food for thought that is ``gods are entirely dependent on mortals`` a.k.a the shinki I am rarely entertained by worlds where the main part of the magic is based on magic tools and not magic users) it was all in vain.
These three volumes definitely feel that little bit more improved than the first few now that it's moved away from the introduction of the world and characters. The action is phenomenal, the characters are still funny but also explored in more depth and it's so addicting to read. My one criticism is that the women are very sexualised in their design however, it doesn't really impact their personality much so it doesn't really impact the story as well. Bishamon is a good example of this because she is such a strong and powerful character but her design is very questionable sometimes. Much love for her though.
the bishamon arc has a place in my heart forever. i'm so fond of kazuma and how he's torn between his loyalty and love for bishamon, his secrets and his debt to yato, and the guilt/pain/responsibility he feels obligated to hide. i love when the sins of the past come back to make you pay. there's interesting thematic development regarding blight: continuing with how it was established as mark of guilt for the shinki in the yukine arc, this arc explores the associated shame and how that leads to paranoia and scapegoating.
I really love how Yato's problems with Bushamon (sorry if I spelt her name wrong lol) were finally resolved. Who knew a traitor in her ranks would cause Yato and her to be on slightly better terms?
Also, Yukine becoming Yato's blessed vessel (that's what they called it, right?) was great, and I really like Kazuma...

This one was so good! The Bishamon arc is one of my favorites from the manga. And I like that it also furthers so much more lore about Yato and everybody else. Hiyori’s memories were cut :(
Kazuma and Bisha are some of my favourites, esp in terms of relationships. They've been through so much. Also, THE ENTIRE ENDING OF S1 WASN'T IN THE MANGA?! I love the ending, with the fight and Hiyori regaining her memories. I might be misremembering the next few volumes and the order of things messed me up. I remember a random chapter Clash ye gods of calamity but that can't be it. How does Hiyori remember then? I didn't expect these 3 volumes to be the Bisha story. But I love this manga so much. A combo of great fun, wonderful art and fights and beautiful characters and relationships.
