Solving Life

Rate this book
How many times do you get up in the morning and think, "What do I have to do? What should I do?" or, "What do I need to do?" How much are we driven by what we think we need to accomplish? What should you really be doing? Are you chasing something because someone suggested it? Do you truly feel happy every day? Do you wake up without feeling guilty for not doing something?

Self-evaluation now is essential to going forward. The challenge is making the transition back to being in control of your life, not your life being in control of you. The stories in this book will hopefully inspire you to think deeper, take stock of what truly matters, and find greater fulfillment in your own life. (From the back cover)

3.5 stars. I enjoyed learning more about Dr. Harper and his thoughts on different subjects. My favorite chapters though were the ones about natural health care, thoughts on nutrition, how health care has changed over the years, and how taking responsibility for our own health is paramount. He also had some good thoughts on current world situations, like COVID.

Quotes:
"I believe the choices we make begin with the realization that we have choices. We cannot change other people. There are events that are outside our ability to control. We can, however, control our response to them. We have the power to control our choices and our responses and how we perceive each. We can choose the people we hang out with, the books we read, and the TV we watch, making sure each has a positive impact on us. At the end of the game we should be at peace with the choices we've made."

"I believe looking at the complete picture is the answer. It is what gives you the fullness of life for which you can be thankful. Becoming distracted by the micro takes the enjoyment from the macro. Tomorrow can be what I choose it to be, and I challenge each of you to embrace making those choices. Remember, things that happened yesterday are only things that happened. The clarity of tomorrow may change what we think today was. Go to bed, being thankful for things that happened in your day, and realize they are going to give you a better tomorrow-if you choose."

"Spending seven minutes a day being thankful rebuilds brain cells."

"Unfortunately, people have been conditioned to expect a doctor to heal them with no help from the patient themselves. I tell people all the time, "I cannot heal you. You are responsible for healing yourself. I will work with you; we can work together as a team, but you have to realize you're ultimately responsible for your health."
