A Haven in the Cove

Rate this book
She’s watched her sister re-invent herself in Sea Breeze Cove. Can she do the same?

Nina Winters was a bit skeptical when Charlotte decided to move to the small town of Sea Breeze Cove and refurbish their aunt’s old house. But with a fiancé who adores her and a business of her own, Charlotte is clearly flourishing.

So, Nina decides to visit, hoping to make a fresh start for herself as well. And things start to look up when she catches the attention of both a local doctor and a handsome cop.

But everything changes when she starts to realize that rather than the shallow relationships she’s had in the past, she wants something real.

Can she open up her heart enough to make a true connection? Or will she let fear drive her away from a chance at love?

This funny and uplifting women’s fiction series features a cast of characters you’ll want to revisit over and over. If you like stories that explore the beauty of second chances, the importance of family, and the healing power of love, this is the series for you!

A Haven in the Cove, is part of The Sea Breeze Cove series, by Fiona Baker. It follows five different women through their lives in this small town. Unfortunately, I did not realize that this was the fifth book of the series, so I was totally confused about who the different people were and their place in the community. I have loved all the other Fiona Baker books, so I forged ahead and finished the book. I would certainly recommend that you read the first books in the series before attempting this one. There are several references to prior books, so it is not a stand-alone.

This series is a bit different then her other books. The amount of young people with their own businesses in this tiny town seem out of proportion and the subplots about the minor characters seem too perfect. The other thing that bothered me was the “all-encompassing” love throughout the book. I do enjoy a good love story, but this was too saccharine even for me. For example, one character sees another person as “not her type” one day, to dating the next, to running away because the breakup was too enormous to tolerate. Unfortunately, this series is not for me, but if you like over the top romance, this book is for you.

Finding love is hard, but maintaining love is even harder. Focusing on Nina Winters and Dr. Oliver Frame, this fifth book in the series demonstrates that sometimes fear is the biggest threat to accepting love. So many of the other characters have faced problems in being a couple, but with work, a solution can usually be found. I love the small town of Sea Breeze Cove and the interesting characters. While there are serious topics, there are also more cheerful stories, often involving children and dogs. I feel like a part of this small town every time I read a book in the series.

good read

I like the characters but I found the whole nanny thing a little much. I had four children. My twin babies had reflux and my 4 year old had ADHD on steroids-bipolar. My husband was a computer engineer. We never could have afforded a nanny and I don’t think someone owning an auto shop could either. I just didn’t find this realistic- especially for most people reading this book.

I will continue to read the series.

same old same old

All of the relationships seem to follow a pattern: 2 people attracted, guy messes up, much gnashing and drama, guy finally realizes what an ass he’s been, happily ever after. (Except for Charlotte… don’t get me started on her refusing to say yes!!)
And soooo much drama!
Just too much unrealistic and repetitive dialog. Sheesh.

I've read the entire 7 book series in less than 3 days. The books are lovely even though the endings are predictable. The series follows several couples from their meeting or story beginnings until their happy ending. The small town is cute and the characters are diverse and entertaining.

I’ve really started to enjoy this short, sweet series of books. They are simple, yes, but being able to get to know the characters and watch their lives and love unfold has been wonderful. It’s kind of refreshing to read a sweet, simple story about a cozy little town.
