Jake Griffin was convicted of a crime he didn't commit and given a choice: execution or a one-way trip to a remote planet to set up its first colony. He chose the colony.
When the starship crashes, he's left with only his survival skills and combat training to survive on a hostile planet full of alien monsters. The only good thing is that three beautiful women survived with him, and they'll have to rely on him for protection and so much more.

The story and writing were ok. I don’t remember any glaring mistakes, so that is good. The things that prevented me from giving it a higher score were character traits or story points that were not believable. The whole “Colony” is gonna be like 7 people? A “billion dollar” ship and it only has 7 people, that no one will care about if they all die? Also, one girl is a vegetarian that gets mad when a creature is killed or eaten, complaining about how that are ruining nature and the ecosystem, but she is also a xenobiologist? Killing a few animals in a whole planet is not going to have any effect on the overall ecosystem, which she should be well aware of.
These, along with a number of other questionable choices, that I assume were made to make things easier or simply added without any thought, that each time just really brought me out of the story.
Jake is sent on a mission to colonize a planet. The spaceship he is on crashes, killing all but Jake and three women--two scientists and an engineer. These four try to survive on a planet without the equipment that was destroyed in the crash. As they explore the planet, they have encounters with the planet's population--both the plants and animals. Will they find any people? Will they survive?
I liked this story. I liked that each woman--Erica, Naomi, and Mei-Lei, has a different job on the mission. Naomi is hurt, and they do what they can with the few supplies they have to help her. Mei-Lei is a doctor. Erica and Jake provide protection for the other two. The planet is not a benign planet and trouble lurks everywhere, but they are able to overcome the trouble. Sometimes I was on the edge of my seat to see if they could overcome the problems. All the women look at Jake with lust in their eyes. Jake takes what is offered but still thinks often of his late wife. I like that he does think of her. It is the main reason he is with the group.
I am not a big science fiction fan, but I may give this series a go. It was fun. I'd like to know what happens to them. I also liked the covers. I knew I didn't need to take it seriously so I had a blast reading.
This was a very interesting story. It started out with a bang and only slowed down to a very interesting pace that kept me interested right to the too soon end. I hope that the pace will continue in the next book. Needless to say I like this book. The characters are well written and of a varied background that kept it interesting with their squabbles and other interactions. The creatures are very interesting and well thought out. It's only the beginning of what could be a great storyline.
Colonization of a planet with 8 people. Landing on a planet with no orbital survey. Crew that has not studied their target enough to know length of day. Escape pods that don’t include a thermal blanket. All of this is inexcusably poor story telling that would have taken zero effort to fix and not leave the open premise of the story as a complete farce.
Saw this book advertisement at the bottom of an Amazon page and decided to give it a shot. I’m glad I did. Loved the storyline and even though it’s a little shorter then what I normally look for in a book, the author did a decent job of exploring the characters. I bought book 2 and will start it right after I finish this review. The planet seems pretty wild and I’m looking forward to seeing how they protect themselves from any antagonists.
I liked the premise of the book, and some of the so called skills of the male character were believable, but carrying someone for fifteen miles. Nope I’ve backpacked 80 lbs for 25 miles in one day and it’s a real workout with a proper pack. No way you’re doing that with a person in your arms. Putting flint in a fire just ruins it. Doesn’t make it usable at all. Alien planet and edible fauna? Maybe maybe not that’s a tossup.
Why leave the wreck to look for water? They have barely searched the spacecraft!?!? Why no mention of dead bodies in the craft? Why not look for the gun he had in the control/main cabin? Regards the craft search? So there are other humans on the planet, apparently with weapons? Not taking left over, precooked meat with them when looking for water? How did they know to look for the cave at the waterfall?
A finely woven tale with an interesting but vaguely defined MC. The authors of litrp stories seem to take more time telling the readers about the characters surrounding the MC than about the mc. But here it works as the MC is a soldier hiding his past and the discovery of it is woven into the story very well and add intrigue
I was surprised at how good this is. The excitement from the unknown and the emotions from each person are completely expected. It left me wanting to read the next chapter in the adventure these people face.
I’m certainly happy that I chose to give this story a go. The premise is fantastic, the characters are realistic and I love the world the characters find them selves in. Two thumbs up; looking forward to book 2.
No OP MC, a relatable situation and pretty good survival situations!!! I like the lo build up world.building and the blend of science fiction aspects!!
