“I want your sperm.”

Those were Shelby Grant’s first words to me. Didn’t even want me to buy her a drink first. See, Shelby isn’t like other women. After researching Denver’s most eligible bachelors in search of her ideal sperm donor, she chose me.

As a pro hockey player, I’m used to women wanting things from me, but my swimmers? That’s a new one. Somehow, though, with her color-coded parenting plan, sales pitch and contract, Shelby sells me on the idea. After my donation, she doesn’t want anything more to do with me.

I can’t seem to stay away, though. As her belly grows and I get to know the tightly wound mom-to-be, I get attached.

Shelby’s jaded about men and I’m not looking to settle down. There are countless reasons why crossing the contractual line between us is a bad idea.

But once Shelby gives birth to our child, all bets are off. Whether I planned for it or not, I have a family now, and I’m not letting go without a fight.

I didn’t know what to rate this because the story itself was average. Just a quick pass time and good enough to waste a couple hours on.

BUT - I had a major issue with the representation of bipolar disorder in this book. I double checked the publishing year and it was 2022 so that was a shocker because I genuinely thought there would be at least a little awareness about mental health disorders or if people are not interested in being aware for the sake of leaving ignorance behind - then as an author who uses an illness (which a lot of people cope with on a daily basis for their entire lives) as a means of furthering their plot then they should know better.
I’m not giving anyone the benefit of the doubt on this. The amount of research and information available out there is overwhelming and for me to read something so blatantly offensive was a shocker.
The heroine’s mother was described as having Bipolar disorder but there was nothing in the behaviour of that woman to point to a mental health issue - only a shitty deplorable personality. That woman was an addict and a gold digger who never cared about a person in her life. She was abusive and neglectful and it had nothing to do with her diagnosis- which again - there was no actual proof of. And the heroine was an extremely smart woman so she couldn’t possibly not know that bipolar people are not the way her mom is. Like, that’s not what being bipolar means. Her mom was just a bad person and it had nothing to do with her illness. If she had been mentally stable she would still be an awful person.

There is still an overwhelming amount of stigma around mental health issue and for an author to put that on page and reiterate over and over again how someone is an awful person because they are bipolar is just beyond infuriating.
I’m not saying there aren’t people with bipolar disorder who are truly awful as people as well just like there are people who are perfectly healthy and are shitty awful people.

Pretty good story if you have the ability to suspend disbelief on a few things (mainly the whole circumstances leading up to and how the heroine becomes pregnant). The other thing was hockey related (the owner stressing that the players needed to entertain the fans by instigating fights sounds like 1970s hockey). If you can get past that and just go with it, you can enjoy the unusual romance that develops between hockey star Beau and lawyer Shelby, two characters who were easy to like.

There was a twist near the end that I didn't see coming, which likely sets things in motion for the rest of the series. So not a bad start to this new series. It kept me turning the pages and that was enough for me.

What an introduction to The Colorado Coyotes’ hockey. A new series and the first book already have me wanting more. In probably one of the more unique meet-cutes I have read in a while! This one was hard to put down.

Shelby is ready to be a mom, and her job as an attorney has her excelling in research. Applying those skills, she has found the perfect sperm donor, Denver’s most eligible bachelor has all the requirements she is looking for. Now to get him to agree with a carefully drafted contract, she approaches him.

Grant is not sure what to make of Shelby, but a comment she makes sticks with him. You will need to read the book to find out the story, and this reader recommends it.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

This is the most interesting meet cute I think I've ever read! These two opposites are so not ready for how they will attract! Beau and Shelby basically learn to love one another by spending time caring for one another. Great story line really unique! These two are so very perfect together! LOVE it!

Hockey/Romance…two of my favorite words. This book did not disappoint! Beau is a professional hockey player and loves his big family. Shelby didn’t have the best childhood and wants to change that. She wants to have a baby and she wants one now. Even If that means asking a stranger that happens to be a hockey player to be her sperm donor. Its a extremely professional deal with a legal contract and everything. But what happens when those crazy things called feelings get in the way? Oh boy was this a great quick read. We had laugh out loud banter, emotional family drama and a few moments we definitely were not expecting. The characters were fun, honest and sometimes raw. Beau’s family was supportive and welcoming and Shelby had great support in her best friend. I am really looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Well this one started out very differently than most hockey romances. Shelby was a bit nutty in her quest, but it worked. I was surprised when Beau agreed to her terms, but better was when he couldn't get her out of his mind, so he kept talking to her, developing a crush. I felt bad for Shelby and her past, it made her quest make much more sense and I'm glad that after things were bumpy she gave Beau a chance.

I really could have done without the drama at the end, it seemed to come out of left field, not sure how things will play out going forward for the team, but it will be interesting for sure.

I loved how this one ended, loved seeing Beau and Shelby get their HEA.

Brenda Rothert and a hockey book? Sign me up!
The Donor isn’t your typical hockey book as very little of the action takes place on the ice. I would call this more of a book where the male lead happens to play hockey.

Beau and Shelby have a meet cute that’s probably one of the more unique out there. I enjoyed getting to meet these two and see them evolve from their odd initial encounter to friends and more. In appreciated the “playboy” hockey player had to work for Shelby’s attention.

As the first book in a new series, there is some ground work being done here, but that world building is seamless to the remaining story. I left The Donor curious about what’s next for Beau and Shelby, the larger Fox family, and the hockey team too.

Fast lovely read

The perfect combination of opposites attract, an introvert with a extrovert. It's a romance I longed for to happen. I knew they were meant to be together from the moment she walked up to him asking for his sperm. They are so lovely together, I loved how their relationship progressed from donor, to friends. It had me chuckle, and blush and heart racing when he was stuck....it was a fast read for me. I definitely enjoyed it.

This book was doing so well for so long, but then it just wasn't. I loved Shelby as a character. I loved her interactions and relationship development with Marlowe and Beau. I even liked the exploration of her past trauma and insecurities - her mom showing up to her apartment had me legit clenching my teeth.

But then we hit the sex scenes, and it was all downhill from there. They were all so rushed and distinctly un-sexy. Where was the foreplay? Where was the timidity of your first time when you've held out for so long? Where was the intimacy?

Honestly, from 54% onward, everything was just so damn rushed. The typical third act breakup happened in the middle instead, which I was good with, but we stopped getting any development from that point forward. Then, when the third act breakup would normally occur, it seemed like the author was like, "I need some drama. Let's do a terrorist attack." And it hit from just so out of left field that I wasn't even upset, just bewildered. We've spent so much of this book discussing how he plays hockey, and the team owner has insisted they start picking fights on the ice to bump ratings, but you skip over an injury on the ice and go straight to some unknown assailant blowing up a building instead?

From there, it really was just ... a mess. We got, like, a sentence-long wrap-up of each plot line instead of anything satisfying. Beau's family is just randomly aware and involved in the pregnancy, but how did they react to finding out Beau was going to be a dad in the first place? Did they know that it started out as a legal contract with no physical intimacy involved? Were they at all caught off guard by any of it? Did Shelby and Beau reveal it together? Were there a lot of questions? Did it create tension that had to be resolved? Why did we get more time with Mila talking about investors and imminent domain after the explosion than we did any of the pertinent info about the familial dynamics?

It sounds like I hated this book. I didn't. I loved 50%. Was okay with the next 40%. And was just really let down by the last 10%.

The premise is impossible to believe but once the characters get some depth I went along with it.

I think the story stumbled along with awkwardness. The big thing that happened was treated without much depth overall but I'm thinking it might be attended to ongoing in next book now that I think on it.

Brenda, it was just hard to believe that initial contact between Shelby and Beau. It's in the blurb so I shouldn't hold against you, I know.
It's the depth of characters you bring. I cry when Shelby's mother comes along and I cry when Beau's mother comes along for a different reason. Marlowe was a hoot and I could use more of her as Shelby was a pretty boring character by herself in comparison. Lol

I do like your hockey boys!!!

I see a lot of romance readers looking for or recommending hockey romances but I never see Brenda Rothert mentioned and that is just WRONG. As a long time reader of hockey romances Brenda is one of the best there is. I've read just about all of her books and enjoyed most of them - including this book. It's a grumpy/sunshine but its more the heroine who's the grump and the hero the sunshine.

Shelby, our heroine is socially awkward and a real introvert. At the start of the book she has no real friends, she works from home and her upbringing was tragic. And what she wants most in the world is a baby she can love and will love her. But she goes about trying for a baby in a most unusual way. She does research for a living so she researches this also. As a result, she searches out one particular hockey player and asks him for his sperm. She leaves a binder with him with pertinent details as well as a letter letting him know more about who she is and what this would mean to her if he did this for her.

As you can imagine, Beau, our hero is rather bemused and thinks this might be a very unique way to pick him up what with him being a hot pro hockey player and all. But he does read her letter and understands and sympathizes, and because he's just a real good person, though somewhat of a player if you get my meaning, he agrees to be the baby daddy.

This book is just so sweet, but not a saccharine, sugary sweet. No, its a very enjoyable sweet and another hockey romance written by Brands Rothert that I strongly urge all fans of sports romance to read.

I must say that I’m glad that I continued reading this story because it turned out pretty good. When I first started reading it and got to the first encounter between Beau and Shelby I was like what in the world is this?! This makes no sense and it’s ridiculous. But as I continued and read more on the characters who are both very likeable and so different you get invested in their story. Shelby was alone and very sad about her past and her life unlike Beau that was a famous hockey player with the best parents and siblings ever. His family welcomed Shelby immediately into their circle as hesitant as she was. Shelby tried really hard to keep Beau away but she really couldn’t. Beau was amazing with her and she was the most precious thing to him. There was a tragedy that put things into perspective for him and he knew Shelby was his end game. I love how Shelby slowly opened up first to her crazy neighbor turned best friend Marlowe who was the complete opposite from Shelby but never embarrassed her or made her feel less than. And then I loved how Shelby let Beau completely in. Those two protected and loved Shelby something fierce. They were parts that were missing but it’s irrelevant and I’m sure we will read more about Beau’s siblings as the series continue.

The Donor by Brenda Rothert.

She wanted his sperm and he thought she was effig crazzzy!!!

I had the pleasure of reading The Donor by Brenda Rothert and y'all, this was my next 5 Star read!!!

Shelby Grant wanted a baby of her very own but she had stipulations. Like she didn't want a man in her life, just his sperm lol

She had everything drawn up with lawyers, everything in place but just needed to find the perfect donor.

That's where Beau Fox comes into play. He checked ALL the boxes.. he was Shelby's perfect Donor... lol

But now she has to figure out how to convince him to get on board with her request!!!

Just average for me. The main story about the h and H was cute enough but the explosion thing was weird. It kinda reminded me of the tragedy in sawyer Bennetts last hockey series. But not a bad way to spend a few hours.

Very cute book about a woman named Shelby, who is a Type-A lawyer wanting a baby without having a man. She is convinced Beau, a local famous hockey player, is the perfect “father” based on all her research she did (temperament, looks, family life, etc). She approaches him one day after a game with a binder and a letter explaining her determination for him to be her sperm donor. After consideration, Beau agrees, but after she helps him with his umm… “deposit,” he can’t stop thinking about her. Throughout her pregnancy they get closer and eventually find a relationship with each other.

I loved Shelby and how I resonated with her a lot in terms of her personality. She overthinks and knows she takes more work than other women to get to know and understand. Beau was just an absolute sweetheart and I loved his family and how they accepted Shelby so easily.

What I knocked down a whole star for was the climax of the story where Shelby gives birth and Beau isn’t there because….multiple bombs went off at the stadium… where Beau plays hockey. Like WHAT?! Multiple players and people died and we aren’t given a reason as to why it happened. There was no sort of lead up to that point where it was even a possibility that could happen. It just happened and we get a snippet of Beau in the rubble helping a woman go safety and that’s it.

The spice wasn’t there for me in this book. There is only one sex scene where she is already pretty pregnant and yet finally loses her virginity to Beau. So spice is a 🌶️ out of 5

Shelby Grant, 28 decided she wants to have a baby even though she isn't in a relationship with anyone. Not having the best childhood and being on her own for most of her life she knew she wanted to change that and would be the mom her mom wasn't. She's an attorney and does research and works up a whole packet with Denver's most eligible bachelors and comes up with Beau Fox to be her sperm donor.
Beau Fox is a professional hockey player for the Colorado Coyotes. He was at the local hang out, Mountain Top when he's approached by a woman and was told "I want your sperm." He's thinking it's just another come-on from a woman until she pulls out a color-coded plan book along with a contract and then after his donation she wants nothing from him. He's shocked, but finally agrees to do it. He comes from a big family and they really liked Shelby but didn't know about their arrangement. They spend time together and get along great and Beau is starting to change his mind about their arrangement. It sounds so simple but things are about to change.

What a great story to start off a new series! 5 hot hockey stars for this one!
Shelby had a rough start to life with a mother who didn't care about her, she never had anything until her grandparents swooped in and took her when she was fifteen. Now all alone again and she feels she doesn't need anyone still. But now that yearning for a baby has kicked in, and the lawyer in her does all the research and comes up with the perfect guy to be her donor, hot hockey playboy Beau. And when she presents him with her idea, he can't believe his eyes, or ears for that matter!
Beau comes from a big great family, but does he want to donate his swimmers to this woman so that she can have a baby, and walk away from that baby with no attachment? Sure why not, there is just something about her that draws him in.
Read along and enjoy their story as it unfolds in this new series kickoff for Brenda! You're going to love it!

So this could have been great. I loved the characters. They were funny likable, human. And the story had moments of greatness. But alas, the plot was rushed in some places, dragged out and others, and super disjointed. Things that could have been super emotional just weren’t. They were glossed over or rushed through. It was sort of like she had 100 different plot lines she was thinking about and couldn’t decide on which one to follow so she smashed them all into one book. And the worst part about that is I liked Beau and Shelby in the plot of the story doesn’t do them justice.

A convoluted storyline. A team owner encouraging fights to entice spectators and asking a total stranger to donate his sperm.

After a screaming baby disrupts Shelby Grant’s relatively quiet workday, she meets her soon-to-be best friend Marlowe, and Marlowe’s friend’s baby, Iris. Three weeks later, she asks an unsuspecting Beau Fox, the most unorthodox request - she wants his sperm to become pregnant.

Shelby at twenty-eight is a an attorney with her own legal research business, hearing a screaming baby she bangs on the door demanding the resident with the baby open the door before she knocks it down.
Marlowe in turn replies, “With what? Your hands?”

As Marlowe asks her to hold the baby, something maternal overcomes Shelby . Marlowe suggests they get together later in the week for lunch, and surprisingly she accepts. Shelby lost her grandparents five years ago, to a car accident and now lives a singular existence.

Task in hand, she researches the best specimen, resulting in professional hockey player, Beau.

Shelby and Beau are polar opposites. An introvert to his extrovert. He’s been with many women, she’s a virgin.

You just checked to see if the baby knew we were having sex?”
“I mean…yeah.”
“You worried the kid’s gonna come out with a look of judgment and tell all the doctors and nurses his parents boned?”
“His or her.”

The entire Fox family had come to the hospital when they heard about the accident and Beau had rung his parents as he was being brought to the hospital in an ambulance, asking them to be with her and the baby. Beau’s family taking turns checking on him in the ER and Shelby on the OB floor.

The storyline seemed underdeveloped, her bipolar mother resurfacing after robbing her of her valuables on New Year’s Day and vanishing.
“What are you doing here?” I demanded.
“I know you’re mad, but Shelby, you have to understand that I was in a bad situation. I brought you this.”
She held out some folded bills and I looked down at the money and then up at her. “What is that for?”
“You know, to make up for what I borrowed.”
“You didn’t borrow anything from me, you stole it. How much money is that?”
“It’s $100.”
“It cost me more than two grand to get my stuff back. And that was after calling pawn shops for more than two hours to find it.”
“Oh my god, you’re pregnant.”
“What do you want?”
“I want you to take this money. I’ll get you the rest, but I just need some time.”
“I don’t want the money. Is there anything else?”
“Aren’t you going to let me in?”
“Why would I let you in after you stole from me?”
“I said I was sorry.”
“That doesn’t make it okay. And why are you sorry now, all these months later?”
“I got kicked out of the place I was staying. I don’t have anywhere to go.”
“Who’s that?”
“I’m Beau. Shelby’s boyfriend.”
“A boyfriend? Are you the baby’s father?”
“It’s none of your business.”
“My grandchild is none of my business? Why are you being so hurtful, Shelby?”
“You can’t stay here. I’ll gladly drive you to the hospital if you want to get checked in for some help, or I’ll take you to a homeless shelter.”
“A homeless shelter? I’m not homeless, and I don’t need a hospital. Whatever you’ve done to my daughter, I don’t like it. Shelby, you need to ask him to leave.”
“I’m not leaving,” Beau said.
“Well, let’s see what the police have to say about that.”
“If she wants to call, let her. The police will help her if you tell them her situation.”
“What situation? What did you tell him?”
“The truth, that you’re bipolar but you don’t take your meds like you’re supposed to.”
“I’m not falling into that trap by the drug companies, they make people think they need those overpriced drugs but it’s all just a scam.”

Shelby has been content being a single unit, one, and no more. However, her new neighbor moves in and upends the quiet work environment that she has created, with her home business broken on this day, beyond repair. She is a lawyer doing legal research, as her business. She needs to do something to save her sanity and the work day.

She doesn't know it her neighbor is babysitting for a friend whose father was taken into the hospital due to him having a heart attack. Now she is knocking on Marlowe’s door telling her to, “Open it before she knocks it down.” Upon opening it Marlowe replies, “With what? Your hands?”

Shelby asks if there's any way to stop her from crying. Going through all the obvious choices, Marlowe had tried already. Then she brings up music and Marlowe offers up, Soundgarden. Shelby was not impressed with her choice. She tells her to bring, the baby because she has, Brahms.

It’s when, Marlowe asks her to hold the baby in order, to lock her place, that spooks her. So, instead locks her door for her. When Marlowe is in desperate need of using the bathroom she hands, Marlowe the baby. Shelby is freaked out since she’s never held one before. But then something maternal happens within her.

The baby’s softness, the baby smell, the cooing sound as she start to calm, and how her cheek felt when Shelby kissed it. It's when she burps, that the baby quiets down. Marlowe calls her a genius for being able to get her to quiet down. She asks, Shelby if she wants to meet for lunch Friday, surprising even herself, she says, yes. Because she is a loner and has no one to lunch with.

After holding little Iris she knows her life is about to change. Three weeks later she is waiting in a bar for the man of the hour to arrive. Her perfect specimen, Beau. He is a professional hockey player. When she blurted out in the middle of the loud crowded bar that she wanted his sperm, he thought she was joking, at the very least wanting to role-play the attorney librarian. NOPE!

This is a very sweet story of a woman, who was dealt a raw deal, at a very young age. It all seemed to move along much better once, she moved in with her grandparents. But, five years ago she lost them, to a car accident, and her world became a singular existence until, she held, Iris. Research being her jam, she found her perfect man, but, not in the way most would think. But, can Beau, this family-based man, live with her terms? Read and find out. The twist adds a lot of excitement.

Fully went into this because of its similarity to Nobody's Baby But Mine. Very similar theme but very different book. The 2 star review is because this book wasn't great, not because I wanted it to be an SEP clone.
I actually appreciated some of the differences to Nobody's Baby- we got the story without the iffy consent, no dumb jock jokes and it wasn't a haters to lovers. h is smart but lonely and goes baby mad after holding a baby once. Like really?? The scene where h talks H into providing his sample- literally talks him into masturbating, phone sex style, in the doctors office- was cringy to the extreme. h is a virgin and somehow that gets H's engine going. BARF
There were a bunch of time jumps that felt like odd editing- we get them walking into their first dinner date and then it's weeks later on the next page and there are feelings. Hard to buy into it when you don't actually get to see it on the page...
h desperately needs some therapy from her parental trauma. And her reason for not wanting to be with H? Worried the kid will like him better because she's not good enough. Can we say... therapy?
To be fair, the writing was done well enough that it wasn't a DNF- I was sticking around to see how things got resolved.
BUT
Then we get this weird event...
The event was so odd I had to keep reading to see what wackiness was going to happen next. I was irritated when h was perfectly okay handing off her baby to H's family when there had been no addressing her concern of them being "better" than her. It felt like an unresolved issue.
And the ending was SO rushed. Not sure I'll pick up Rothert's writing in the future.

Despite feeling like this book was all over the place (a whole bunch of tangent story lines most going nowhere or left unfinished) I did enjoy The Donor by Brenda Rothert. These two come together in an unusual way yet there is a connection early on, I enjoyed watching them form a friendship that turned into more, and the way there were there for one another when life got hard. A good start to what promises to be an interesting and entertaining series.

Shelby Grant is a self employed attorney who works from home and is an introvert without any real friends although she finds herself with a best friend in her upstairs neighbor, Marlowe, following an incident that also has Shelby realizing she wants a child despite having no romantic prospects. Shelby’s childhood was a mess leaving her fearful of relationships and relying on others but in order to have a baby she needs a sperm donor and her choice, Beau Fox, a professional hockey player that she’d never heard of but meets all her requirements based her criteria and she has the research binder to prove it.

Beau isn’t sure what to expect when a strange woman at their local after game hangout comes up and announces she wants his sperm, but he gives her a bit of his time and he realizes that she’s serious and she obviously had done her homework but he’s just not sure. After missing a lunch meeting with her to discuss, he decides to take her to dinner and let her down easy but instead he finds himself agreeing.

I enjoyed the interplay between these two even the uncomfortable times, but what really made me love them was Beau realizing just how alone Shelby is in the world and wanting to make it better for her. While at times he was a bit overbearing, I think he realized that Shelby needed to be pushed just a bit out of her comfort zone and he had the best of intentions. There was something sweet about the way he pursued her and gained her trust. I also felt that Shelby centered Beau made him realize that there was more to life than girls, drinking, and even hockey (although hockey was still a big part of his life).

The Donor started this series off on a high note and I’m looking forward to see how it plays out especially after the incident that tears the team apart.

First time I read a sports romance book and the heroine asks the male character for his sperm! Great dramatic way to start a story! I also loved it because in that scene, the author made a perfect picture of who our characters would be, an easy going hockey player, used to be admired by women, and an uptight, serious woman who knew what she wanted and went for it. I knew we were going to have a good story and it turned even greater than I thought.

Shelby had a crappy childhood, victim of a selfish mother with bipolar disorder. She was rescued when she was fifteen by her paternal grandparents who brought her to live with them. It was a paradise for a while, being showered with love and acceptance and encouragement, until they died during her first year of law school. Even so, she forged on, and now has her own law research business. She’s very alone and desperately wants a baby to have someone of her own.

Beau was impressed by the binder she gave him with all her information and plans. For a guy who usually drifted and had a great time, he was impressed and decided to help her on her plans. But, once she got pregnant, he was bitten by a bug, the desire to have a family and a baby too!

I loved how this story developed! Beau comes from a wonderful family so I wasn’t surprised he had the bones for becoming an involved father-to-be. I loved his consideration, his attentions and how understanding he was with Shelby’s hormonal moods. But the one I loved the most was Shelby. She flowered from this uptight woman into the most loving creature. She was all sweetness and kindness and once she learned to let go, she did, not without first being bribed with spicy Doritos! The scene with the TikTok dance was priceless.

Her bestie Marlowe was awesome and I hope she stars in one of the books in this new series. I loved her podcast about women and sex and the title is brilliant!

The book ends with an unexpected catastrophe that I think will be the theme for future books and I’m looking forward to all the next stories!

I stumbled upon author Brenda Rothert years ago when she released her Fire On Ice series. The introduction was the beginning of a long and happy relationship, and with the release of THE DONOR, the first book in her Colorado Coyotes series, I am in my happy place again.

I love a good 'will they or won't they' story, and THE DONOR has plenty of that. Shelby and Beau do not seem like the typical love match. But Shelby is one very determined lady, and she wants Beau...or, rather, part of Beau. She has no illusions, nor the desire, actually, to jump into a relationship with a famous hockey player, and will take what she needs and go happily on her way.

Beau Fox is not, though, the typical famous hockey player. Sure, he's enjoyed the perks that come with being a star, and he's not ashamed to admit it. But he's grounded, and once we meet his family, it's very clear why that is. Is it realistic that Beau would help Shelby out in the way that this story unfolds? Probably not, but Brenda had me rooting for these two to come to a meeting of the minds, and happily, they do.

THE DONOR does what I look for when I open a romance, and that is to draw me in, keep me invested in the characters, and bring something new to the genre. Brenda has done her job well, because I thoroughly enjoyed the unfolding of Shelby's and Beau's story, and the world of the Colorado Coyotes. I enjoyed it so much, in fact, that I really need to see more of these characters, more of Marlowe, more of the Fox family, and more of Beau's teammates, so Brenda, if you're listening, help me out.

Whether you're a fan of hockey romance, unexpected love, or just love everything that Brenda writes, THE DONOR is for you. Dive into this new world and enjoy. ❤️

I really wanted to like this book. I was able to suspend my disbelief on some aspects, but not others.

That the FMC sought out a guy she’s never met to ask for his sperm — okay.
That she had only decided she wanted a kid three months before then— makes less sense to me.
That she is a 28 year old virgin — sigh. I’m not a huge fan of virgin FMC stories. They have to be done well and I just don’t think this was the best. Also, she said at one point he could see her vagina though she had a full bush. But what he was probably seeing was her vulva. A vagina is just the hole, not the lips or clit or anything around it. Small stuff like that just highlights perhaps a lack of sexual education on the authors part.

I feel like the FMC was on the autism spectrum. Though that wasn’t mentioned I think it was good subtle rep. However, the representation of bipolar disorder was not great. The FMCs mom was bipolar and just kind of displayed as a horrible person. No big hall markers of BD, she just came off as an awful human.

In terms of the romance and sex scenes… romance was a little stilted. It had potential but I feel like it fell flat. The really one and only actual sex scene felt a bit off. Mainly it was the dialogue was cringey.

It was almost a cute and quick read but I think it moved too fast in some areas. My favorite part of the book was Shelby and Marlowes relationship. So the female friendship there. Beau’s family also seemed cute. Again, there was a lot of potential but just wasn’t executed great.

This is the actually definition of slow burn. I do however feel like there could have been a few more 🌶️scenes…… so I’d give it a 2.5🌶️/5 like it’s there I just feel like there wasn’t much.

Overall the plot was good but it felt very rushed in some parts. With some major things happening at the end.

I also think there should have been a warning for somethings (for e.g mental health - which I would also like to add was not the way you should treat someone suffering with that kind of issue. Also bombs and collapsing buildings I feel maybe should have been mentioned)

It is also very heavily baby oriented so this book might not be for you in that sense as are main female character (Shelby) is desperately wanting a child and then becomes pregnant throughout. (She says with a strong disliking of kids)

But if you love a female lead that knows what she wants and try’s to achieve perfection then she will be a hero to you - she’s definitely of turning her life around and has achieved her dreams.
Beau (the male lead) tbf is a sweetie and a hero at the end and sure we first meet him being a playboy but he definitely changes his ways real quick .

Also one last thing which is me nit picking was I think there could have been a few more chapters of them in a relationship as it took a good 75% of the book to being finally a couple.

Okie, this is a super easy read kind of book and wanted me to read more. It might have been the fastest one that I have finished. It only took me four hours to have it all in one sitting. The story is so cute and great. i just don’t like how they portrayed the mental health disorder. I mean, they just showed the side effects of mental illness and did not even gave a fair chance to be explained well without having those stigmas and misconceptions. That should not be that way. Another thing that bothers me is the plot twist in like the last few chapters of the book. I AM TELLING YOU RIGHT NOW, IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. IT IS NOT GOOD TO PUT THE PLOT TWIST ACCIDENTS IN THE LAST TWO OR THREE CHAPTERS OF THE BOOK. FOR ALL THE AUTHORS OUT THERE, PLEASE STOP GIVING YOUR READERS TRUST ISSUES AND TRAUMAS. IT MAY SOUND SO DEMANDING AND FUNNY BUT, SERIOUSLY. THE FEW CHAPTERS BEFORE THE END SHOULD BE DEDICATED TO BUILDING UP HAPPY ENDINGS AND UNTANGLING CONFLICTS AND NOT CREATING A SURPRISE ATTACK IN A GUISE OF SABOTAGING THE HAPPY ENDING. I DON’T CARE IF YOU THINK THAT IS SO CLICHÉ BECAUSE LOVE STORY IS ABOUT HAVING THEIR HAPPY ENDING (at least in my own perspective). Nevertheless, thanks for the author and her team for this good novel.

I love a good hockey romance and the synopsis of this one definitely intrigued me. It was a good story and I did really enjoy. A very easy read and good flow of writing. Overall I would recommend - I read it in one day.

This book follows Shelby and Beau. Beau is a hockey player and named Denver's most eligible bachelor. Shelby is a loner, introvert and a bit of a control freak. Her father died, her mother is bipolar and her grandparents who raised her died in a car accident. So she is alone in the world basically and has decided she wants a child of her own. Based on all her analysis, Beau is the perfect candidate for her baby's father but she doesn't actually want him involved. Against all odds, Beau agrees but after Shelby gets pregnant he has a hard time not wanting to be a part of her life. As they become friends and eventually more, Shelby has to learn to trust. She is used to everyone abandoning her and she doesn't want the same to happen to her child. But then tragedy strikes that puts everything into perspective for both her and Beau.

Overall I would recommend. A good romantic sports romance with good characters and storyline.
