This one started in a fun way and then hit very close to home emotionally.

Vague spoilers for both the comic and S3 and S4 of Discovery: I really like Detmer’s storyline in seasons 3 and 4 - the scene in which she goes to ask Dr. Culber for help in S3 is one of my favorites in that season and episode 4x11 is maybe my favorite in S4, partly for how it continues Detmer’s and Culber’s storylines - and this comic seems like an extension of that.
I was really struggling emotionally in late 2020/early 2021 when S3 first aired and while I’ve gotten better since then, seeing a Star Trek show address mental health continuously and with great compassion over several seasons has been a real gift. It’s neat to see that continued here, all with a glimpse at a young Keyla.

Edited to add (more S4 spoilers) Tilly’s storyline, along with Detmer’s and Culber’s was one of the stand-out ones for me in S4. I was sad to see her leave the ship, but I LOVED that her realizing that the Command Track was maybe not the best choice for her was not treated as a failure. The way DISCO deals with this is miles ahead of how other Trek shows have depicted different career paths (yes, “Tapestry”, I’m looking at you).

Once again, I almost wish this was longer. But I think this is why comics aren’t my preferred medium. They usually leave me wanting more. Which, yes, that’s by design, it’s just awkward with tie-in comics.

Demeter

How do you face fear?
Demeter returns to her childhood and goes exploring with her younger self. Sometimes figuring out who you are means seeing yourself though a child's eyes.

Very child-friendly. This character is rarely used and so little is known about her. This graphic novel gets five *****'s!!!
