A jungle planet of Naga Aliens, who are civilised, allies, and sexy as hell? What's not to like?! Billie Blac is a technical genius and was headhunted by Allico Inc to join the Operation Colonise mission. Her Aspergers makes processing the world around her difficult at times, but her coding skills are excellent. Billie has longed for independence and adventure for a long time, and with a little help, she intends to brave the unknown. She was destined to work in the Delta 4 compound, only, there was a mix-up. Upon arrival on Thelia she, and the others, are all herded into the pairing party. Prince Izule is a Royal, and the youngest son. Despite being the largest and strongest Royal heir, he is not destined to rule as he was hatched last. He is eager to become a sponsor, but any human who comes before him is terrified by his appearance.
That is, until Billie comes running into his life and the protection of his coil. She is sweet ambrosia to him and their romance is sweet and spicy. A slow burn at the start, and an inferno of passion as the story proceeds. There are strong sexual themes in this story, and at times, blood and gore.
Hello all! I am a romance writer at the core and my usual sub-categories are fantasy, sci-fi and horror. Anything steamy/NSFW will have a mature warning. I appreciate every like and review. Billie has routines. She needs her routines. Touch, sound, scents, everything affects her state of mind. So landing on an alien planet? Everything is upended. She had plans laid out but they were immediately derailed. Now she's got an alien sponsor and told she has to complete a process before being able to see her sister again, her rock, her guide. But this alien? He's doing a great job of protecting her, of keeping her space quiet and her senses content. He says he's her mountain, since her rock isn't currently present.
Spoilers ahead. Billie is sweet, methodical and unintentionally hilarious. Izule is one of the largest in his family, a fierce hunter and has wanted a human to choose him as a sponsor for 5yrs. He finally gets his chance when Billie comes running under his perch to hide. Only, he's seen the way the other humans behave. This one is different. But that just makes her interesting. He knew his size was good for something, it's perfect for protecting and providing the space Billie needs to function. This was a sweet story. We get to see the other side of the scenting fiasco. We learn why Izule reacted the way he did. We see a closer view of the festival fight. And we see Billie's decisions and communications with her sister to understand her thought processes. Billie, seen from her own POV, showed such strength. She knows her limitations, hates change, but is willing to push her boundaries for what she wants. I've really enjoyed these stories. And considering the events mentioned in this one I'm curious to see what the jungle Ucfeni live like. And if Charlie's flirt manages to becomes his sponsor.
2.5⭐ The first half of this book was very cute. Our autistic h relies only on her sister, but immediately takes to our H. He's so lonely and tired of not being selected as a sponsor because he is very large with frightening colors.
And then it all fell apart. Rife with misspellings, homophones, missing words, anachronisms and repetitive phrases. This is 1st person dual POV and the character self describes body parts throughout the book. For example, the H talks about his scaly lips. The h mentions her haircut constantly. It's just...weird.
And then there's a LOT of content with the family that makes this awkward if you read it as a standalone.
The hero is very lonely. He is the 37th child of the snake alien King. He is the biggest male child and a wonderful hunter. But his snake scale colors are considered "dull" and he doesn't have a mate.
He really wants to sponsor a human. Humans have to live with the aliens to learn their culture for a few months. An alien sponsor and a human live together in the alien's home.
He goes to many "pairing parties" and is never picked. But he smells the heroine and is immediately interested in her sweet smell.
The heroine is a computer coding genius. She also has autism. She isn't good with crowds, or loud noises, or bright colors, or certain textures. She freaks out at the pairing party. The hero surrounds her and sends everyone else away.
She says his scales don't hurt her eyes. And if she has to have a sponsor it might as well be him. He is thrilled. He learns quickly how to adapt to the heroine's routines. He just wants her to be happy and to keep living with him. He falls in love with her. He has no idea what she feels about him as he is afraid to ask her.
Heroine is a virgin. When he finally indicates his interest, she decides she likes him too and she's willing to try. They live happily ever after.
I personally am on the spectrum and while I could get some of Billie's needs and some of the representation was good, she kind of came across as ... Meh and childlike me? Like almost stereotypical? (That could just be my perspective though).
She relies really heavily on her sister to make the world workable for her and because of that she comes across as very immature? Like she's a grown adult woman but she can't relay to Charlie that he's being too loud or that the lights are too bright? Obviously Autism is a spectrum, but it really seemed like her sister's "help" ended up hurting her and I could not really relate to her at all. She just traded one person / protector for another.
Then there's the romance, I liked that Billie and Izule could have a frank conversation and that they understood each other but it was REALLY slow burn. It's a pretty good romance but the writing just fell a bit flat for me. The spicy bits weren't very hot to me (which I was sad about) and I wished we saw them bond a bit more!
Hannah annoyed me. I totally get where she's coming from but I felt like she was almost infantilizing Billie by thinking no one could learn to "take care of her". She's a genius scientist but you don't think she could handle herself? Ugh.
Couldn't finish it. As someone with Asperger myself, I found this to be insulting and cringe. The FL is a mess! Yes, people on the spectrum often don't like noise, but they DON'T go into a meltdown when someone knocks on the door! This feels like the author just wanted to use this (now trendy) condition to be cool, but didn't bother to do proper research.
the royal’s bumblebee: book 2 of operation colonize
Great book about a snake alien and human scientist. They both become a mated couple. The king snake being murder by another snake tribe was interesting.
