Jillian gets stood up on a blind date, except she accidentally meets Michael and they spend the night together. Michael has just been traded at his request to Dallas.
The universe had plans because collecting his cousin and linemate, Cooper’s little girls, he is surprised to see a pregnant Jillian, Mia and Emma’s kindergarten teacher.
He came to see her that Sunday, the week after, but she wasn’t home. He waited for about an hour, and then his sister Alex and cousin convinced him that it looked like he was stalking her and the neighbours might ring the cops since he was sitting in his car that whole time.
When she and Michael meet again, months later, he’s shocked, but it doesn't take him long to earn his way back into Jillian's good graces. Jillian had tried reaching him, but he went away on a road trip the next day…thinking he lost his mobile, instead he forgot it on his flight. The flight attendant held it hostage, they set up a time for him to retrieve it when he got back to town, but she said she wouldn’t give it back unless he went on a date with her.
He refused and went to his boss, who in turn reported her, to her boss, and had her dismissed and blacklisted from other airlines. Out of pique, she published his number on Twitter earning him random calls, requiring that he change his number.
He asks his parents to urgently visit, they promptly arrive the next day. Jillian is introduced to his parents, his sister Alex and his mother’s brother Matthew, all of whom are unconditionally understanding and accepting. The next day, her mother invites them all for dinner.
They are from massive wealth, mansions, private jets…opulent baby showers and weddings.
Michael was almost eleven pounds - asks the question “who the h*ll gives birth to an eleven-pound child?”
“Don’t you look at me like that, Michael Horton.” Jillian is due in six weeks.
“Do you not see what state I’m in?” She points at her belly.
“There is no more room for this child to grow into, but according to Alex, you had a big fat head, so I’m going to be giving birth to a turkey.”
He buys her a Life Alert Necklace for safety.
“I need to shower, we had sex this morning.” I look at Michael while the other three just groan.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Dylan (his brother) mumbles beside him. “You can’t keep it in your pants. Look at her. Does she look like she wants to have sex with you?”
“Enough,” Alex says when the front door opens, and the sound of more feet fills the house.
“What’s going on?” Allison (his mother) says, pushing through Dylan and Michael to get to me. “Why isn’t she dressed and in the car?”
“She needs to shower because Michael had sex with her this morning.” Dylan fills them in, and I close my eyes from embarrassment but also the pain that shoots through my vagina. I put my hand on my stomach, and it’s hard as a rock.
“That is probably what started the labor,” Max says, as if this is an everyday thing. Out of all of us, I would never imagine Max and Alex to be the calm, cool ones. “We did the same thing with Michael.”
Dylan puts his hands to his mouth again. “This time, I’m really going to be sick.” He gags.
“There are things you share,” Alex says with clenched teeth. “And there are things you never ever say in your whole life.” She points at him. “That is one of them.”
The doctor comes in with the nurse. “Good morning, how are we doing?”
“My vagina feels like someone lit it on fire,” I say, trying to sit up. “After a circus of clowns paraded through it with knives.” Making her laugh.
A chance meeting, a memorable night, an unexpected surprise, engaging, entertaining family interactions.
