Garth Ennis

Appearing in the short-lived but critically-acclaimed British anthology Crisis and illustrated by McCrea, it told the story of a young, apolitical Protestant man caught up by fate in the violence of the Irish 'Troubles'. It spawned a sequel, For a Few Troubles More, a broad Belfast-based comedy featuring two supporting characters from Troubled Souls, Dougie and Ivor, who would later get their own American comics series, Dicks, from Caliber in 1997, and several follow-ups from Avatar.
Another series for Crisis was True Faith, a religious satire inspired by his schooldays, this time drawn by Warren Pleece. Ennis shortly after began to write for Crisis' parent publication, 2000 AD. He quickly graduated on to the title's flagship character, Judge Dredd, taking over from original creator John Wagner for a period of several years.
Ennis' first work on an American comic came in 1991 when he took over DC Comics's horror title Hellblazer, which he wrote until 1994, and for which he currently holds the title for most issues written. Steve Dillon became the regular artist during the second half of Ennis's run.
Ennis' landmark work to date is the 66-issue epic Preacher, which he co-created with artist Steve Dillon. Running from 1995 to 2000, it was a tale of a preacher with supernatural powers, searching (literally) for God who has abandoned his creation.
While Preacher was running, Ennis began a series set in the DC universe called Hitman. Despite being lower profile than Preacher, Hitman ran for 60 issues (plus specials) from 1996 to 2001, veering wildly from violent action to humour to an examination of male friendship under fire.
Other comic projects Ennis wrote during this time period include Goddess, Bloody Mary, Unknown Soldier, and Pride & Joy, all for DC/Vertigo, as well as origin stories for The Darkness for Image Comics and Shadowman for Valiant Comics.
After the end of Hitman, Ennis was lured to Marvel Comics with the promise from Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada that he could write The Punisher as long as he cared to. Instead of largely comical tone of these issues, he decided to make a much more serious series, re-launched under Marvel's MAX imprint.
In 2001 he briefly returned to UK comics to write the epic Helter Skelter for Judge Dredd.
Other comics Ennis has written include War Story (with various artists) for DC; The Pro for Image Comics; The Authority for Wildstorm; Just a Pilgrim for Black Bull Press, and 303, Chronicles of Wormwood (a six issue mini-series about the Antichrist), and a western comic book, Streets of Glory for Avatar Press.
In 2008 Ennis ended his five-year run on Punisher MAX to debut a new Marvel title, War Is Hell: The First Flight of the Phantom Eagle.
In June 2008, at Wizard World, Philadelphia, Ennis announced several new projects, including a metaseries of war comics called Battlefields from Dynamite made up of mini-series including Night Witches, Dear Billy and Tankies, another Chronicles of Wormwood mini-series and Crossed both at Avatar, a six-issue miniseries about Butcher (from The Boys) and a Punisher project reuniting him with artist Steve Dillon (subsequently specified to be a weekly mini-series entitled Punisher: War Zone, to be released concurrently with the film of the same name).

This was about the punisher trying to kill a mafia boss. There were some very funny parts that were well scripted (such as the polar bear attack at the zoo), The art, by Steve Dillon who also worked on the Preacher, helped with the comedy. THoufh it was a quick read, it was muy favourite of the month.

Първата част ме впечатли, но не по начина и толкова, че да мога да напиша, че е мега-хипер-ултра.
За втората половина на порадицата, обаче, не се чудя. Сюжетът е много тарантиновски с безумните персонажи, екшънът е на макс, а аз съм мега-хипер-ултра доволен! Рисунките също са класа, а кориците на Тимъти Брадстриийт са все така перфе!

Много, ама много доволен останах от двете части на "Наказателя: Здравей отново, Франк". Вендетата срещу клана Нучи е отключила шантавото въображение на сценариста Гарт Енис, който абсолютно е избягал от клишетата за "супер героя". Развръзката с единия от лошите беше просто феноменално комична и заредена с яки поп-културни препратки :) Артът на Стив Дилън също се вписа интимно в "пълп" духа на четивото.

Me encantó poder conocer más de este antihéroe porque a pesar de conocer parte de su historia (muy poco realmente), no conocía hasta qué punto él llevaba sus castigos y cómo ejercía su labor de vigilante. Es una historia con mucha violencia, pero también con un mensaje esperanzador a pesar de todo.

Cet acte II de « Bienvenue, Frank » se démarque de son prédécesseur. Pourquoi, me direz-vous ? Par rapport à l’importance que prennent les voisins du Punisher. Davantage présents, on s’attache à eux. Le scénariste Garth Ennis a sur faire d’eux des personnages humains, bons et cela en peu de pages.
Ce que j’ai trouvé dommage, néanmoins, c’est la faible présence des deux membres de la NYPD : j’aime bien leur duo.
Concernant les justiciers vengeurs, là aussi, on ne les voit pas beaucoup. On comprend tout de même qu’ils ont un pète au casque, mais ç’aurait été bien de les voir davantage.
L’intrigue principale, soit détruite la famille Gnucci, reste globalement semblable que dans l’acte I : on envoie des larbins liquider Frank, mais Frank défonce tout. J’ai tout de même apprécié l’intervention de l’antagonique Le Russe (oui par contre le nom, voilà quoi… 🫠). Un antagoniste dont j’aurais aimé en apprendre plus, surtout par rapport à sa force colossale.
En conclusion, c’est le genre de comics qu’on lit sans se prendre la tête. C’est rapide, agréable de par les dessins de Steve Dillon. Et la fin ressemble totalement au personnage principal : brusque, violente. (On a quand même droit à une petite scène mimi, avant. 😆)
Même si ce n’est pas nécessairement un scénario bien recherché, bien poussé, j’ai tout de même mis quatre étoiles pour cet excellent moment que j’ai passé aux côtés de Frank Castle.

Leaving this one a solid 4 stars. I blew through it pretty quickly, but that’s only because I was really enjoying reading it. Over the top? Of course. Ridiculous? Yes, and that’s why I loved this story arc. Ennis was so effective at giving each character their own distinct personality traits, so while the plot was completely absurd, the cast were believable in their respective roles. I’ll be exploring other Punisher titles down the road, but in hindsight I’m kind of glad I started with this one.

Exclente! La segunda parte me gustó más que la primera. Incluso me gustó más el dibujo. El arco de élite, el santo y Sr venganza me pareció maravilloso tres personajes muy distintos pero al mismo tiempo muy similares los tres motivados por la imagen de punisher y haciendo... ¿el bien? Vuelvo a recomendar está etapa si nunca leíste nada de punisher. divertida y dinámica.

Върховната колекция графични романи на “Marvel” ни носи двойна доза кървава справедливост с томове 43 и 44 – „Наказателя: Здравей отново, Франк“. В днешно време едва ли има почитател на комиксите, който да не може да разпознае черната фланелка с бял (често изпръскан с кръв) череп на Франк Касъл. Когато бях малък, за мнозина той беше просто герой от изключително популярна видеоигра (в която заедно с Ник Фюри раздаваха тупаници и се мъчеха да видят сметката на Кингпин), а някои го бяха срещали и на екрана във филма с участието на Долф Лундгрен (вероятно и без да осъзнават, че е същия герой, тъй като там култовият череп не е част от костюма). В днешно време обаче, за Франк Касъл има няколко игрални филма, сериал и безброй кросоувъри. И макар това да е първото му самостоятелно заглавие на българския пазар, той се е появявал в „Танос печели“, „Ти си Дедпул“ и „Войната на героите“. Die von mir in Teil 1 vermisste kritische Auseinandersetzung mit Selbstjustiz fand in der Tat statt:

Der Punisher als Figur ist ausschließlich gut wenn er als Projektionsfläche dient um die ethischen Grundsätze anderer Helden auf die Probe zu stellen und ihre Überzeugungen zu erschütten. Eine solche Szene gab es in Teil 1 mit dem Daredevil und sie war wirklich wirkmächtig und hat mich zum Nachdenken gebracht... für ca 5 Sekunden.
Als Solocomic ist der Punisher leider nichts weiter als eine - pardon my french - W###svorlage für Incels.

En este numero da por terminada la que para muchos fanáticos del personaje es la mejor obra, aquella que describe mejor la psicología del punisher. Tras esta, están otras obras en las que la mano de Garth ennis estará detrás de su creación, como lo son: The pusnisher: Born(Serie en la cual se explora el pasado militar de frank castle, y lo cual nos da la oportunidad de ver esa metamorfosis que sufre para finalmente transformarse en el ya tan icono personaje) y The punisher MAX: serie que mantendrá el ambiente caótico y violento. Cargado de ambientes asfixiantes, llenos de corrupción, inseguridad e injusticia. Ambiente en el cual nuestro protagonista seguira moviendose como pez en el agua impartiendo su ley sin rastro alguno de moral, piedad u culpa.

No es exactamente mi estilo (en especial los dibujos), pero lo disfruté mucho, en especial porque descubrí muchas referencias utilizadas en la película de 2004.

El cómic es bueno para lo que se espera del personaje y los autores. Es decir, si comparamos a este cómic con V de Vendetta, Watchmen, Marvels o Civil War evidentemente no le llega ni a los talones. Pero si entendemos el contexto de la obra podemos decir que cumple y que llega a dar cierto plus.
Con muchísima menos sangre y escena escatológicas de las que normalmente Ennis nos tiene acostumbrados, esta vez nos da una historia seria, divertida y de pura acción. Los personajes están bien desarrollados, si bien hay secundarios cuyas motivaciones de vida quedan un tanto difusas (me refiero a secundarios como Dave o Bumpo), en líneas generales todos los personajes son tridimensionales. Tienen sus intereses, sus historias y sus objetivos, lograr ese desarrollo con tantos personajes en tan pocos números es loable y un acierto por parte de Ennis.
Por otro lado, también me pareció un gran acierto la historia paralela con ese escuadron de justicieros. Fue tan entretenida y con personajes tan atractivos que lo dejan a uno con ganas de más. Allí también hay que hablar del arte de Dillon que supo crear desde la simplicidad, unos trajes que simbolizan a la perfección el carácter y ser de estos justicieros.
Los planteos que realiza Ennis dan poco para analizar en cuanto a política o crítica social, pero se valora su intento al respecto.
Un cómic que vale la pena leer si les gusta el género de acción.

Já fakt nevím... Tenhle díl byl trochu lepší. Přišlo mi, že v něm kromě vraždění a vraždění a pak ještě brutálního vraždění, bylo i trochu děje. Ale teda jako já nevím... tohle asi není pro mě. (A ano, proč to čtu? Mám problém, že když rozečtu sérii, prostě pokračuju...)

What I love about this is how unsympathetic Frank is, he unrelenting in his mission to kill every criminal. We get some nice buts of him with his flat mates but I took that as he's only taking an interest in them because they helped him out.
Ma being all stumps was brutal and the Russian was an amazing villain, I thought the vigilantes that are punishing people where going to be a follow up story but no Frank dealt with them in this. I liked the loser cops who just gave you some levity between all the actions scenes and violence.
We even got Frank punching a polar bear, this is jammed packed with great moments and I loved reading every second of it.

Dicho eso, es una gran historia que sigue a Frank Castle en su lucha (creo que guerra sería el termino correcto) contra una de las organizaciones criminales. A diferencia de otros héroes, Frank utiliza cualquier método letal en su lucha hasta lograr terminar con su enemigo.

I gave the first part of this story 4 stars, but the second part just didn't grab me as much. To my mind, the best aspect of the story was his interaction with the other people who live in the same building as he does. I thought his interaction with his enemies was fairly ho-hum, the introduced 'threat' fairly contrived and the climax against his main enemy a little silly.
I've never been a big Punisher fan, but I think that's mainly because he's always going up against regular criminals. Personally, I would like to see him going up against super criminals using tactics, training and gear to get the edge over them.

OK first of I got to say this is the 2nd part, it helps to read the first half of Ennis' story however you can see from this fantastic story of the violent anti-hero loner from the Marvel Universe where the Travolta/Jane movie got some of its story line. The art suits the style and the in your face action barely lets up as Frank does what he does best. However it also does show a sort of soft side from Frank when it comes to innocents.
