Rumors ruin reputations. For a maid, they can be maddening.
The sharp-tongued Professor Campbell, your employer, is dead. Insinuations about your “nightly duties” make finding a new position impossible. Just as you exhaust the last of your options, an unexpected offer of employment comes from a man you’ve never met: Sicarius Estrova – shipping magnate, eligible bachelor, and an old friend of the professor.
His household, Gravelorne Manor, is far from the picture-perfect image it projects. The staff are rowdy, the mansion is bizarrely furnished, and your beguiling master seems to delight in playing calculating mind games. Too old for the nonsense, you meet his perverse teasing with biting wit and pernicious poise. However, when his endless taunts turn into a sudden proposal, you cannot help but feel something is amiss.
Seduced by his amorous attentions and the promise of financial security, you enter into a marriage where the only certainty is Sicarius’s obsessive desire to mold you into his world. As your husband flip-flops between hopeless romantic and shameless devil, you begin to wonder what wicked schemes hide behind that charming smile.
(A yandere style reader insert horror romance where you play the main character.)
Reader Character Description: She/her pronouns, AFAB anatomy, approx age late twenties to mid-forties.
Afipia Felis is an irritable, foul-tempered feline who lives in a cold, dreary climate. Specializing in reader insert and second-person POV stories, she enjoys tormenting her main characters at every turn. Her hobbies include vomiting on white rugs and hissing at guests.
This was such a fun book to read! I really enjoyed piecing together all the hints along the way. And what a twist at the end!
One thing I also particularly enjoyed about this book was the POV. Its very seldom that you find well written novels written this way. This was a very thrilling book and I can't wait to read more!
This book is severely underrated-! I am so happy to have stumbled upon this because as someone who loves yanderes and self insert fiction this is a gem! Also the background plot and world building is really set up well and very interesting so I am so hyped to see where the story will head to next :)
4.5 stars rounded up - I decided to kick off my spooky season reading by finally purchasing this book, which I've had on my Amazon wishlist since it came out in 2022! This was a thoroughly engaging experience the entire way through. The prose was wonderful, and my gosh, what a lovable band of characters! All of the supporting cast were so endearing and cleverly written. The only reason I'm not rating it a full 5 stars is entirely because of my personal preference; when it comes to yandere or otherwise dark heroes, I prefer them to be switchy rather than full dom (*´艸`*) I'm also not very into petplay. But ohoho, the book quickly won me back over with its nefarious twists and turns! As an avid enjoyer of reader-insert fiction, I'm so happy to own this in my physical collection and will be eagerly awaiting the next installment!
Disclaimer: The author is a friend of mine and let me read a copy
I never thought I would enjoy being gaslit by a book so much.
Like seriously, Afipia Felis does a great job of nudging up the creep factor to the point where I was just starting to get concerned, then dial it back and distract with humor or sexy. Then when my guard was down, she'd nudge it further. It was like that saying with the frog in a frying pan, and I was HERE for it.
And at the end when everything came together? Oh man. Awesome reveal.
I'm not sure how she's going to top this in the next book, but I'm looking forward to it.
A bit sexy with a lot of mystery. The realization with all the china had me gagged. Loved the cliffhanger ending and am excited for whenever the sequel comes out!
