Not all the TikTok recs can be great. 😬
The plot had potential but the writing here was just really cringy. The dialogue was often awkward and seemed really forced, lacking chemistry. The pet names 🤦♀️

A storyline so taut and fast, it's fit for a thrilling Nascar ride. It sets your pulse on high and readers are left with bewilderment at the twists and stunned by the developments.
My first book by Nadia and she's impressed me with her writing skills. A LOT!
It's brothers best friend, kinda forbidden romance set against a whodunit mystery. Both H & h, audri Wu and her brother, Grayson's best friend Remington Starke, who have a massive attraction since teenage years.but neither can act on it.
"We were both flawed and fractured in so many ways. Perhaps those fragments had lured us together and made us whole. Now we were both ready "
Years later they meet again and this time Remi is helpless and Audri is relentless.
But there's shadows of enemies lurking just beyond the windows, which have shaped their broken pasts.
"I gave you a second chance. Live it well, amigo."
They come to fore and it creates havoc worthy of a bond movie. Explosions, fires, murders and whatnot are used for intimidation but true love survives all and overcomes hurdles.

This book started off a little slow for me, and it was really hard to connect to the characters. But once sparks started flying between Audri and Remi things started to heat up. Like the barbecue sauce scene!

The Mastermind is the first book in the WaterFyre Rising series and debut novel by Nadia Han. It is a brother’s best friend/billionaire boss romantic suspense. It is well woven with enough intrigue, danger, mystery, tension, chemistry, dramatic developments, angst, push-pull, agendas, and deadly secrets to keep me flipping the pages to discover how it all plays out in the end.
I loved the camaraderie between the WaterFyre men and look forward to finding out more about each one, as their stories release. This is Remi’s story, the Mastermind of WaterFyre (you’ll have to read the book to find out what WaterFyre is), billionaire businessman, and brooding alpha-male. His latest business acquisition brings him back to his hometown, with all the painful and disturbing memories associated with it. But it is also home to his best friends, and a certain woman who intrigues him on so many levels. He shouldn’t feel attracted to Audri, after all he has known her since she was a child- she’s his best friend’s sister, and therefore totally off limits. But he also happens to be her new boss, and pretty soon it is hard to ignore the chemistry that has ignited between them. But danger seems to be stalking them, and dark secrets will soon be revealed- so strap yourself in for a bit of an intense ride as all is revealed.
There were some moments where I felt the story lagged just a little, or was slowed down by ‘flashbacks’- I do understand that the author was building backstory, but I felt that some of the momentum of the story was lost at these times- but, in saying that, this issue did improve as we got further into the book- and it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the story.
Looking forward to ‘The Daredevil’ (Book #2), due to release in Nov 2022.

I got excited when I read “brother’s best friend romance”, bcos it would be my first time reading that kind of trope. And of course the presence of a dark alpha male really made me sign up for this arc. Remi and Audri’s love story is a slow burn romance. But as I continue reading, I kind of figured what would be their fate, bcos why not right? I want them together. No matter what the brother would say. Lol. However, Grayson, the brother, surprised me with his reaction once he knew his sister and his best friend are an item. It was totally not what I have in mind, that’s why props for the author for the many surprises she put into the story.
The story for me is medium paced; I like that it has dual pov and the character development and plot are well written. I certainly love—and envy at the same time—Remi’s circle of friends, you’ll feel how they’re so close and true to each other all through out the years. And yessss. Of course, the spicy scenes are just 🤌🏻. Barbeque sauce and coconut juice is DEFINITELY NOT JUST A SAUCE AND A DRINK NOW 😏 lol.
Anyhoo, if you’re into suspense, danger, drama, shaded past, and up for some secrets waiting to be unwrapped with an enough amount of romance and a bit of smut, I highly recommend you to read this book and this one’s worthy in your tbr’s. Btw, book 2, The Daredevil, will be out by November so you have time to finish reading this one. ✨

I'm all about suspense in my books so I didn't even pay attention to the fact that The Mastermind is Nadia Han's debut book until I was writing this review, because I'm telling you, there wasn't any hint to that fact while I was devouring this story. Remington (aka Remi) is a successful, dangerous man with demons stalking his every step despite the fact that he keeps them under wraps. Something happened to him when he was younger that made sure he would wall off his heart so no one could get to it. Audri Wu is a girl with her set of demons & dark secrets who knew Remi as a child since he was her brother's best friend. These two come face to face again when he ends up her boss, and while she's totally off limits because of bro code, the sparks are flying & it's getting harder & harder to deny themselves as the walls in both of their hearts are getting knocked down. However there are a lot of secrets that don't make friends swirling around them making the twists come in hot to get the f-bomb dropping & the pages furiously turning for me. So yeah, I couldn't get enough of this story & am super excited for more of this series as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Oh wow, this book is exactly what I needed to get out of a weird book slump! I haven’t had much time to read due to work and life but when I started this one I couldn’t put it down. The story is one I never get tired of. I’m a sucker for a protective guy and this book had all of my other favorite tropes as well. This was more than just a romance book. It is filled with emotions and honestly, that's what really kept me reading. I loved that I was feeling something from reading again. I really enjoyed the banter between the two characters and a lot of their interactions left me smiling. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to any romance lover. It was so well written and the pacing was on point. This is a book you need to read now.

What an explosive story. I was completely hooked on this book right from the start and loved everything about it. The intrigue and the mystery really draws you in and the characters just cinch the deal. The author has done an amazing job of creating a complex story. It is well written and the development throughout is amazing. I loved how she portrayed the characters and the journey they are on.
This is a new author to me and I have to say if all her books are like this then it definitely won’t be the last. I cannot wait to see what is next for this series and to delve into more of what she has written. This is a fantastic book that I would highly recommend.

I love a good forbidden romance, and brothers best friends always tend to be those.
Audri and Remi were hot together. Remi was an Alpha by far who always had his eyes on Audri even when they were younger. Audri was independent, intelligent, and a fierce woman. This book was a suspense tale that had lust, romance, intrigue, and thrills at every angle. I loved the characters and enjoyed every element of the unexpected the author threw in.

Words cannot express how much i loved this book. It was amazing i loved everything about it. The tension between Remi and Audri was so high I couldn’t wait for them to get together. The plot is chef’s kiss freaking phenomenal and the writing style was soooo good that I didn’t notice i was reading until I finished the book.
This is the first book I’ve read from this author and she did not disappoint. The banter between them was so cute i loved it. Remi’s relationship with Grayson (Audri’s brother) and their friends is soo wholesome i wanted to see them interact more. I loved how everyone was doing their own thing and their friendship with Remi and Audri was soo damn nice. The spice in this book and good i liked it however there were some words that made me cringe but it was very good and detailed.
I wished this book was not over because I truly enjoyed every second of it. I ate this book up and I’m not disappointed. If you’re considering to read this book I’d tell you yes, you have to, read it and you won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait to read the second book. This is becoming one of my favorite series😍❤️.

Billionaire brothers best friend Remington buys the company that Audri works for with the intention to improve it and then sell it. If there was a checklist with tropes, this one hit almost every single one and not in a good way. It felt as though the author was just trying to incorporate all the stereotypical tropes into one book and none of them were well thought out or fully flushed.

The Mastermind is not your typical brother’s best friend romance story. He is also a billionaire and the new boss. The suspense, the intrigue and the mystery are intricately and cleverly woven together to give the reader an intense read. The plot had me eagerly turning the pages waiting to see how it all unfolds. The story has a little bit of everything from danger and deadly secrets, lies and drama, tragedy, angst and let's not forget the push/pull romance.
Remington Starke is living with a past that has tormented him and has kept him in a dark place. He knows he shouldn't but she has always been his light but she is off limits. Now he is back and wonders if there could be more.
I look forward to seeing what Nadia gives us next.

I love this book!!! And I hope the rest of the series is as amazing as this book is!! The story had a little bit of everything. Romance, thriller, mob style activities, espionage, and a secret organization! Absolute perfection!

The first thing I want to applaud is the friendship between Michelle, Kiara, and the FMC, Audri. They are extremely loyal and close. They help Audri with her jewelry business and are never jealous of her successes in life. They support her and encourage her! They are true besties. I think so many authors forget about female friendships in romance novels and how important they really are.

“I’m not going to judge you for doing what’s necessary to protect yourself.”
Audri is so incredible. She is not judgmental when Remi finally starts opening up to her. She is there for him when he needs it. She listens, encourages, and tries to understand. On top of it all, she doesn't look at him as her ATM. She loves him for him. She respects who he is and admires all those aspects. Audri also sees his flaws and doesn't ignore them but loves him despite the flaws. She is incredible in her work life and in pursuing her dreams. She fights for what she loves and doesn't allow fear to rule her. When things got bad, though she ran, she allowed Remi to explain and didn't reject him.

Though he hid massive secrets from her, eventually, he opened up. He didn't want to hide. He trusted her with his heart and with his secrets. They became a true partnership.
"Sometimes, the people closest to you wield the deadliest weapon because your guard is down."
I have to admire all the plans he made to try and get to the bottom of his attack, Audris subsequent attack and harassment, and what was going on with his dad and Audris family! It was so complicated and made me so angry. I hope the next books explore more of the organization that caused all these problems. I just hope Mallory, Brian, and Derek don't cause more problems for their jail cells!

Holy Plot Twist in a bottle of spicy bbq romance!! Nadia has taken us into a new universe that’s very captivating and pulls you in from the very beginning. It’s a world I am excited to spend more time in….
From a young age, and into adulthood the book/series follows best friends that were in an unforeseeable situation of “wrong place wrong time” that has followed them (the MMC) into adulthood. Even causing them to have to watch their back.
Though this books focuses on one of the best friends, Remi, it clearly explains how each of these friends will be seen and what their positions will be throughout the WaterFyre Rising Series- which I was very happy to have that prior to each new book.
I loved Remi, and his dark closed off self. I just felt such a gravitational pull towards him and his story. And the way he protects those he loves and cares about, was so well written & in such a sexy way too.
And Audri is such a great FMC for this storyline. A headstrong, independent, boss babe who goes after what she wants. Though she has lived through some tragedy and loss, she was so strong, even with some crazy events that took place on page. And I adore her for who she is able to be, despite so many negatives being thrown at her. And scary events she was found in.
This was a great story full of suspense and plot trust that will Fully catch you off guard. The romance was hot, the spice was great and the character development was on point.
I also love the beautiful description of words through art & fire. It was just beautifully done, Nadia!!!

This book has so many twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. Who is the good guy and the bad guy when it seems everyone is in it for their own benefit? Omg I need more Remington Starke in my life! I loved The Mastermind. The characters were definitely written well!
Scarred by their past both Remington and Audri lived through different scenarios that molded them into who they are today. Where does one even begin?!?
Remington witnessed an organized crime murder when he was 15. A stranger with a scar across his face gave him and his best friends a second chance. He took that chance and hardened himself so no one, and I mean no one could take advantage of him. Being a wealthy businessman he needed to be cut throat to survive and grow.
Audri, blames herself for the fire that killed her father and cat when she was just 8 years old. All she remembers is dropping a candle which made the fire her fault. Causing ptsd fire has been her biggest fear moving through life, minus the fire burning within her. Remington being the only one who can keep the fire going. Even when she was a teen.
How do two people navigate obstacles that are more tied together than they realize?
How do two people who are attracted to each other avoid that attraction?
Why does Audri have to be Remington’s best friend's little sister?

Wow, a terrific Romance by Nadia Han. Audri is artistic, full of love and loves her family. She is also wracked with guilt over a terrible event in her past and has terrible luck with predatory men. Remington Starke is a brutal, cold hearted millionaire. Now. Back then, he was a scarred boy who witnessed a terrible event that made him lock the loving part of his heart away. He is also Audri’s brother’s best friend. It means for both of them, the other is off limits.
Childhood tragedies have formed who Audri and Remi are now. But upon catching up they realise there is also a fire between them. One that can rebuild them from the ashes into the perfect mate for each other. Providing they can survive the darkness of the past that is coming for them. This is the fantastic first book in a series that looks like being a cracker. This is an author that was totally new to me but I was totally sold by the blurb. It sounded like it was exactly the type of book that I’d really enjoy. Sexy billionaire, brother’s best friend – what more do you need?
Remington (Remi) Starke is a dark brooding sexy billionaire with the world at his feet. Audri Wu is his best friend Grayson’s little sister who is struggling to come to terms with events from her childhood that changed her life.
This isn’t just a contemporary romance story. There is so much more to it. It has the added bonus of being a romantic suspense story with loads of drama, danger and intrigue that totally keep you gripped to the story wanting to know how the story will unravel. Let’s just say that the author has a few surprises that might just throw you.
If you are a fan of the romance part of a story then I can assure you that this story is hot and steamy and does not lack at all in the romance stakes.

I am in love with this book and everything about it. I went through all emotions, mostly intense feels due to fluff and I did cry a few times because it is beautiful. And Remington is my new book boyfriend. And when you read this book he just might become yours too. The characters and plot are well developed and well written. The angst, tension, and romance were perfection. I was invested in all characters both side and main and honestly can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I read this book in 3 hours and although I have to be up in 4 hours, it was so well worth it. I literally could not put it down. This book is a medium paced (mostly fast paced but slow at times) dual pov, suspenseful brothers best friend romance with a few detailed spicy scenes. Overall I highly recommend. Be mindful of trigger warnings. They are listed below. I apologize for any I missed.

This book was next to impossible to put down. A new author for me but definitely hit this one out of the park. This has it all billionaires, murder, mystery, and mayhem of the best kind! I am eagerly looking forward to reading the second book in this series.

This is the first book I've read by the author. The Mastermind is a fantastic book. It's the first book in the WaterFyre Rising Series. It will leave you wanting more.
Audri works for a big company that is being sold. She runs into her brother's best friend while on her way to HR to file a complaint. Then she keeps seeing him everywhere she goes. He even shows up to her apartment. The quote I chose for Audri is: “A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do, right? I don’t trust that family. This is the first book I've read by the author. The Mastermind is a fantastic book. It's the first book in the WaterFyre Rising Series. It will leave you wanting more.
Audri works for a big company that is being sold. She runs into her brother's best friend while on her way to HR to file a complaint. Then she keeps seeing him everywhere she goes. This is the 1st in this series. It was really good. This was about Grayson, Remington,Royce. They were all really good friends. They witnessed something when they were 15. There was a guy there that protected them. His name was Slash. He told them they didn’t see or hear anything. They never told anyone. Remi didn’t have a good home life. After his mom died it was just him and his dad. His dad pretty much ignored him. He ended up getting re married to Mallory. She had an older son Brian. Mallory and Brian had bad intentions towards Remi and his father. Remi bought failing businesses. He ended up buying one that Grayson’s sister Audri worked at. She always had a crush on him. She never did anything because he was her brother’s best friend. Remi liked her too but same reason as to why he never told her. One day everything changed. She made her move. There were a lot of events in this book.

This book really brought everything to the table! It was not just lollipops and rainbows! It brought on the suspense like a wrecking ball! There was a lot of suspense and moments where you would not know what would happen next! The intrigue this novel brought, was beyond my expectations!
Remi & Audri were two characters that had more in common than meets the eye at first glance! I was captivated by their story and who they were as people. To have a chance at what was between them, they really needed to risk everything dear to them. And that was hard for them, as is it really worth it to lose everything to try something out that well, has no guarantee of working out? Both characters had a light within them, and their darkness showed as well. I was gripped to the edge of my sear as I read and could not put this one down as the story kept building as quickly as I turned the pages! Loved it!
This for sure is a must-read book and I truly highly recommend it. I will be for sure reading more by this wonderful author, as I was truly held and captivated! Freaking amazing read! Excellent writing!

This book is adictive, loved it, I couldn't put it down, I was hooked from the start.
I've never read any thing by this author, so it was a very nice and pleasant surprise. It has a slow burn romance, spice, murder, mystery, and suspense. The tension and banter between the characters was really cute, I couldn’t wait for them to get together.
I am looking forward to reading the the rest of this series, Nadia Han didn't disapoint.
