The third story in Kara C. Kane's "Shared Husband" series picks up a couple of weeks after we last saw our heroine and her husband. I've been loving her journey into consensual submission - though probably not as much as she has.
Having met Maci, "the other woman" at a conference she attended with her husband last time around, the wife is now collared and submissive to both. Most scenes in this story involve all three of them and the sex is as passionate and, well, fluid, as ever, but I didn't feel the same figurative gut-punch of humiliation on the part of the wife that really made the first two stories something extra special for me.
I suppose it is only natural that as the three people who make up this unusual relationship get to know one another there is more understanding and acceptance between them. I enjoyed a couple of non-scene moments between the wife and Maci when they related to each other with warmth and respect, but I think the trade-off for them is increased awareness (on my part as reader) of how much play-acting happens in a D/s scene.
However, this remains a four-star read for me. There is a veritable (and literal) feast of hot melt-your-ereader* sex, complete with the mouth-watering cleanup scenes I've come to expect in this series - and as revealed in the blurb this story sees a couple of extra players join the fun!
So, I'm enjoying where this story is going and looking forward to the next instalment. I'm hopeful there is more consensual degradation and humiliation in store for our heroine, but however it goes I'm sure it will be a fun journey.
*no actual heat damage to hardware occurred during my reading of this story
