Poet Parker thought her past was lost to her… but it’s about to invade her present. Her uncle Sidney is in New Orleans, which just happens to be where Mystic Caravan is setting up shop for the week, but Poet isn’t expecting a happy reunion. Things are tense—to say the least—and that’s before zombies are reported in the French Quarter.
New Orleans is one of Poet’s favorite places in the world, and she’s thrilled to be in the city, but when it becomes apparent that a war is brewing between powerful loas, the Big Easy becomes big trouble.
Poet has always been interested in her origins, and she’s about to get the answers she’s always sought. It seems one of the warring loas knows what she is and why she can wield such powerful magic… but he’s only willing to share for a price.
Poet has always believed that fighting a war of someone else’s making was a mistake. Now she has no choice because if she doesn’t fight, everybody will die.
Zombies are taking over the Quarter. Loas are fighting their own. Poet’s heart is vulnerable thanks to the return of the one family member she remembers. Blood will spill. Whoever is left standing will have the ultimate answers. Poet just hopes it will be her.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
Amanda M Lee you are a goddess with a pen! I can't wait for the next book. Your writing takes me to a place I want to visit over and over again. Come to Turlock Vs there's a taco bar with your name on it and a I've cream bar to follow sprinkles included! But g on the next series I'm devoted to your snark and adventure, and a Harley Quinn series would be most enjoyable!
Amanda M. Lee is one of my favorite authors and I constantly scour all booksites for new releases, this one is one of her best yet. Poet Parker and the Mystic Caravan crew have been through some seriously narrow escapes and tough situations in the past and this time, the tables are turned a wee bit. Poet is the target from the start and there are twists and turns galore. I thoroughly enjoy the way life and some of its joy as well as atrocities make their way into these books with the authors perspective as well as the characters sometimes hilarious ways of acting out their personal opinions. This is one of my favorite series and t is family friendly if that matters to you. Absolutely a keeper!
entertaining paranormal urban fantasy mystery series
Entertaining paranormal/urban fantasy mystery series. Outstanding cast of characters in a fun and entertaining storyline. Poet Parker is the head of a traveling circus. By day they entertain the masses and usually at night her and her group of misfit paranormal‘s check down and take care of or eradicate evil paranormal Beings as well as a few evil humans. They travel around the country set up their circus set up their dream catcher with draws in evil and then take care of business. This trip they are in New Orleans and there be zombies afoot. Read on and find out what’s causing it where they come from and all the other chaos coming down upon them.
Happy yet sad. I read it, it was gr8, but now I'm done!
Great installment in a wonderful series. Only one issue......I finished it and now I have to wait for another!!! Too long in between, even with her other series. It's always hurry up to read and the wait for what feels like forever! Lol.
I especially like the way the series, this and many others, have threads that continue and/or deepen story lines. Some short, some long, all the threads are woven in such as to way strengthen the world view, making the fantastical world more realistic. Continuing the Covenant series into the many subsequent series has been quite masterfully done. While the crossovers are always fun, the threads are more interesting to me. So, to those who have yet to read all of Ms. Lee's other works, I highly recommend you do so now!
I remain, so very glad that I dared to take a chance on a new to me genre, and picked up my first Amanda M. Lee book!!! Since that time, I've very seldom been disappointed by a read, a character, or a plot line. Even the editing is quite good, rarely having a mistake for me to find.
Neither Loas, zombies, or bizarre marriage games can stop Poet and the gang. The show must go on. Especially in New Orleans, where entertainment is King. What starts out looking like just another zombie issue; annoying, but not that difficult to handle, turns out to be something much more dangerous and complicated. What really happened when Poet's parents died in a car accident? Is her uncle really the self centered man she always thought he was, or was something else behind his decision to give her up to foster care? What's the deal with Vanessa, his new girlfriend? She makes it obvious she knows about magic, but she feels off somehow. Something strange is going on with her, but is it just because she's uncomfortable meeting her boyfriend's niece? Or is something more sinister going on behind her too enthusiastic interest? Be sure to read the series from the beginning and find out! I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes a good story with fun, likeable, unique characters.
This was a pretty adventurous chapter of the story and finally we get to know part of Poet's heritage. Albeit it only took us 14 books to get this big piece of the puzzle. So we now know she has elemental, witch, and romani plus what we discovered in this book. I don't want to spoil it for anybody so I won't give the other part.
Now that her uncle has been reintroduced I wonder if he will be in the other upcoming stories.
I think the loa introduction in this book was a little too fast and very vague, definitely could have done better with that part and of course the bad guy was very predictable. I need more creativity with the foes. Also I wish the author would stop giving us introductions of the characters we already know, just stop it already, it's worthless information.
This was one of the better reads by far, but the ending was a cliff hanger unnecessarily, we could have got one more chapter to close this one out. For that alone, I can't give a 5 star rating.
I love the mystic caravan series. This author does several other series and they are also awesome. Ms. Lee really has a knack for character building. The dialogue is used pretty much only as necessary, but Ms. Lee uses every conversation to the story’s benefit, often with laugh-out-loud results. Trust me - start with the first book and binge this, for real. Then do the same with her other series.
She also writes under the name Lily Harper Hart; those are also fantastic. If you are looking for lovable characters, snarky conversation, ax-wielding, dudes in dresses, mixed magic, “missed” magic, hijinks, and circumstances that make you blow coffee out of your nose and say “REALLY?”, this is the series for you. This one and the other ones. Amanda M. Lee series. And LilyHarper Hart. Those too. All the series, just go to the author page. You’ll be hooked immediately. ❤️
I am addicted to Amanda M. Lee’s book’s & the Mystic Caravan Mystery books series! Poet & the Mystic Caravan group are in New Orleans for this book & their adventures yet again had me laughing throughout the entire read. The gang has to help Poet deal with some emotional scars that surfaces from when she was a teenager when her Uncle shows up unexpectedly. This is on top of having to deal with Zombies who are being unleashed in the city. To say that Poet definitely has her hands full is an understatement during this book! Some new characters are introduced & it brings new light unto Poets past. My only complaint is that I when the book was over, I was ready to immediately start the next one in the series. I hope you enjoy reading this book/series as much as I have/do.
.. connecting with her only known relative Uncle Sidney, the man who gave her up to the system after the death of her parents, in New Orleans her favourite city.
Poet has no idea how she feels about Sidney and Kade, Luke and Cole are not very helpful on that front but when it comes down to Vanessa his girlfriend Poet's much clearer especially as she's asking too many questions about magic.
With a zombie infestation and several loas running around appearing to cause chaos it takes a while for Poet to get the answers she desperately needs.. from where does her magic come? And can she overcome the fear of losing herself when she knows what has to happen next?
The gang is in New Orleans for a show and to meet Poet's estranged uncle. And then zombies show up.
What I enjoyed: * Learning more about Poet's powers * The dynamic between all the main caravan characters, but especially Poet, Kade, Luke and Cole. * Those loas really do some long term planning
What could have been better: * It shouldn't have taken them so long to figure out the villain * I wanted a scene with Caroline meeting Cole and teasing Luke
I love this book,it puts a bow on top!!!We finally knows more about Poets background and her lineage. Poet has one problem (an uncle)that desert her as a child she doesnt know why here? Why now? What is there left to be said, why unhash the past. Mystic Caravan is setting up shop in New Orleans for a week, but before the crew could setting in zombies invades the French Quarter .The more the crew destroys the zombies new one appears. There's a war brewing and something /someone is putting Poet in the middle of it.I absolutely love this series
Poet and her pals are up to their usual shenanigans, but this time they are in New Orleans, with all the glamor, grace and creepiness that locale has to offer: lots, zombies, Ghosts, and more....And Poet has another couple of surprises coming. Read the book to find out what they are! Plus this book sets up coming books really well, too. A+ Bravo! (Again!)
Great story and progression of Poet. Although the dealers were mentioned and we will get there some day; I was disappointed that Izzy or at least her grandfather did not appear. I have the sense that we are headed to a new group of saviors but unsure if it will be Izzy, Poet, Bay, Scout, Zoe, etc or they're offspring. However we get there, it will be an exciting ride.
I enjoy all Amanda M Lee series. Seriously, you can’t make me choose a favorite. Lol. This one has been teased from the last book and seemed like it would be momentous. The author did not disappoint. From enjoying the sites and charm of New Orleans to appreciating the religious aspect of the Creole community, this book touches on all of it while giving us more of the story of Poet and the rest of Mystic Caravan Circus. I’m excited to see what happens next.
I enjoyed the different elements: humour, adventure, drama and the dynamics between Characters. When you read the series one book after another there is some repetition in the story. However if you read them with months or years apart then it is needed. I would recommend this series to my grandchildren and daughter- in-house law. They are avid readers. Hoping to empower them to always help others.
After the big confrontation at Moonstone Bay, Poet is looking forward to their annual stop in her favorite city, New Orleans. There is just one negative. Her uncle Sydney is meeting her there and she hasn't seen him since he abandoned her when her parents died. I was looking forward to this book and finding out more about Poet's background and it did not disappoint.
The characters continue to grow and develop in their universe. I like the cross over of characters from other series written by Amanda Lee. Every book appears to be working towards a massive cross over of characters and a mystery that will evolve many characters in the paranormal world she created. This book begins the development of the Poet Parker transformation. This was the best book yet in this series.
Another good book in Poet's story. There are twists and revelations that tie earlier events together. This should definitely be read from the beginning of the series. The plot and subplots move quickly and the characters are well developed. I can't wait for the next book!
Love all of Amanda’s books and this is no exception. I love the “Mystic Caravan” series, Poet is one of my favourite FMC’s and we see her at her best here. I love all of the characters in this series especially Luke who reminds me so much of Zander, every girl needs a gay BFF! The series is slowly winding towards it’s finale, with the circus settling down in Moonstone Cove, looking forward to that as love that series, Hadley is awesome. We find out more of Poet’s backstory here and find out the Loa’s have been manipulating events for a very long time.n Loved this book and eagerly awaiting the next instalment.
This is one of my favorite series. It just keeps getting better and better. Set in fabulous New Orleans, we finally get answers on who and what Poet Parker is and I didn’t see this twist coming. Add the most amazing four Loas and you have a zombie battle and the ascendancy of a new goddess.
I love where this book went. I am really looking forward to next in series more than ever. Summary covers basics. We learn a LOT more about Poet's past and a little about her future. Love this series and hope it continues for a lot longer. This book's development is really exciting. Definitely recommend.
Well now, Poet Parker is amazing. This mystery tied off some long running threads, answered a few long awaited questions and showed me a glimpse of what the future might look like. I’m excited. The fact this culminated in New Orleans was perfect. The timing of everything was well planned and the ending was glorious.
I thoroughly enjoyed rewarding this series was I was a lot of myself in it. I too was in foster care and a group home, where I learned to work the system until i war 18. I traveled with a carnival with my parents when I was two and worked at a carnival when I was 22. I'm so good that Poet learned how to grow into her powers and find her faith.
I think this was one of the best in this series and I really love this series. Right from the start, excitement and of course family through it all. Not to give anything away but delving further into an already enthralling life of Poet was just great. Now I’m biting at the bit for the next one. Thanks Amanda.
As with ALL of Lee's series', this book did not disappoint. I love it when a plan comes together and we are finally starting to see the big picture. The thought that has gone into bringing all the series' together is amazing. I am so excited to keep reading how these remarkable women change the world for the better.
I'm looking forward to see what Poet will be able to do in the near future. It's great reading learning more about Poet's past. When the circus settles in Moonstone Bay, will there still be more adventures to come? I have enjoyed reading the entire series and am looking forward to many more stories.
This series gets better and better with each book! It was so great getting to read about Poet's background. The plot was well done with just the right amount of twists and turns. Its also fun to get to watch the characters grow and develop. I can't wait for the next book!
If t you've ever wondered about Poet's early days this is the book to give you a peek into the past. You get to meet her uncle Sidney and her grandfather and grandmother (or great grands). I won't say anything else but it is another action packed adventure. You won't be disappointed.
I've been following Poet and Kade and the rest of the crew at the Mystic Caravan Circus since the beginning. Out of all the possible explanations for Poet's heritage, I didn't see this one coming. At all. I won't spoil the surprise. The rest of the series should be interesting after this.
So many threads finally get tied off and explanations of years of the past as Poet faces revelations she never expected. You can see were on the path now to wrapping up the series, and I guess merging it with moonstone bay. But I can’t wait until the next time Poet runs into Zoe.
