it was perfect for reading in our men's group. Don't forget the questions in the back. They help with getting conversations started.

This book asserts some principles to help insure a man will be able to finish out his life as a Christian. The stories are not extremely deep but the book does provide a lot of encouragement.

Reading my husband’s books again! This is an inspiring and practical resource for men in any age and stage, but particularly those who are seeking to be equipped in living the Christian life with faithful endurance.

NOT JUST FOR MEN.
Author Bill Newton cites several cases of high-profile middle-aged men who have crashed and burned, to get his readers invested in the importance of “finishing strong.” This theme is just as relevant for women, and I have personally known several women who have NOT finished strong. However, their stories don’t necessarily make national headlines:

• The mom who denounced her faith once her kids were all out of the house. Her kids are still praying that she comes back to the Lord.
• The woman who has given up on church. Disillusionment from unresolved church conflicts have left her bitter.
• The woman who used to teach Sunday school & VBS, but now that her children are grown, she has failed to find fresh ways to serve. She is currently a spectator Christian.
• The woman who has given up on her marriage. Whether she has filed for divorce, or is just emotionally “checked out,” she has let her wedding vow go by the wayside.

That said, I think men and women can both benefit from the content here.

STUDY QUESTIONS.
Although not advertised in the book description, the 10-15 study questions following each chapter are some of the real strength of this book. The questions walk the reader through an in-depth Bible study of a passage related to the theme, along with prompts for application. These could be used profitably for personal Bible study, or a small-group study.

WHAT’S MISSING.
I’d love to see some emphasis put on the importance of ACCOUNTABILITY in finishing strong. In working up our motivation to finish strong, it’s easy to develop a highly individualistic mindset: “It’s just me running this race.” But being accountable to no one creates a perfect breeding ground for hidden habits and unconfessed sin—and that sets you up for automatic failure.

LOVE THE THEME.
I get super-excited about the concept of finishing strong. As a Christian, I think a life well-lived and well-finished leaves a beautiful legacy for the next generation. I wish Newton would have ended the book with a prompt for each reader to draw up their own vision and outline personal goals for finishing strong in their own life. But hopefully, readers will be developing that naturally, as they work through the material and questions chapter by chapter. Overall nice resource.
