In exchange for my honest review, I received a promotional copy of this book. And, to be honest, I haven’t finished the workbook yet. This uses narrative therapy as a tool to examine your life and story. It helps provide clarity and leads you to deep dive into what you are telling yourself. As a writer, I appreciate the process of writing and reflecting to deal and gain insight. The workbook forces you to be accountable. I’m looking forward to completing all the exercises and learning with guidance from this. I highly recommend the prior book that led to this workbook.

I admit that I liked the book by far more, but this Workbook could perhaps be more useful to me. In the meantime I have been thinking about the characters in the book and all in all their examples have been useful to me.

Ammetto che il libro mi era piaciuto di gran lunga di piú, ma questo Workbook potrebbe magari, essermi piú utile. Nel frattempo ho ripensato ai personaggi del libro e tutto sommato i loro esempi mi sono stati utili.

I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.

I LOVED “Maybe You Should Talk to Someone” so I was so excited when Lori Gotlieb came out with an accompanying workbook! The notion of writing your own story is appealing to me and I appreciate how easy and practical this workbook is. Lori’s voice is warm, inviting and supportive and I can feel that tone coming off the pages. The prompts give great food for thought, highly recommend all her books!

Let’s face it, we could all use therapy. This book pulls back the curtain on the benefits of therapy, the all too common stigmas, our hesitancy to open up about our mental health, all while becoming a celebration of life.⁣

Despite being a non-fiction, 𝘔𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦 moves along at the pace of a good novel. ⁣

In all, I had a great experience reading this book, however I wouldn’t classify it as a masterpiece. ⁣

A book about therapy by a therapist...a memoir about a therapist who goes to therapy.

In the meantime, we some patients. We celebrate their wins and sigh at their setbacks.

Great insight into their world while having you think about your own.

An original and deeply moving book that blends humour, honesty, and psychological insight. Gottlieb writes from two intertwined perspectives — as a therapist guiding her patients and as a patient herself, confronting her own pain and vulnerability. It made me both laugh and cry, reminding me how short life is and that we are never too old for reflection, growth, or self-understanding. She writes with deep compassion about her patients — a young woman dying of cancer, John, a self-described narcissist grieving the loss of his child, and a seventy-year-old facing lifelong regrets. Gottlieb helps them heal and grow while staying grounded, empathetic, and human without losing herself in their emotions. While at the same time processes her own grief and hurt

this book is such effective propaganda for therapy

on a serious note, what a moving and deeply honest collection of thoughts on how we can all be better humans and be better at being human.

Julie realized, when she talked about cramming it all in, that if she was pissed off about having such a short life, it was only because it had been such a good one. Which is why, in the end, after several drafts and revisions, Julie decided to keep her obituary simple: "For every single day of her thirty-five years, Julie Callahan Blue was loved."

This is a helpful and practical step to “self-therapy”. Obviously I recommend working with a real therapist, but if you’re new to the therapy scene, want to dip your toes in to get a feel for the language and how it works, this is a practical tool to introduce you to the world of therapy. I found it helpful at many points to actively work through something I was going through. It does feel like therapy. But can only be fairly surface level because it’s a generalized workbook.
Some topics may not apply to you and that’s ok. I think there is something for everyone in it.

The book is so good that, firstly I had to highlight sentences (which I normally do not do that with my books), secondly I ended up writing the short notes about it and decided that I will keep this one on my shelf to revisit it again. You may start reading it now when you’re fine/no problem at all in your life, or when you think you may need a therapist. I’m so lucky and grateful to receive this book from a friend and started reading when my life doesn’t have any problems (yet) and once all the problems hit me, I feel so secure having this book and finished it in few hours. It’s worth the time reading and saved me from finding a therapist 😂

This book lifts the cover off of humanity, at our weakest and worst moments, and shows how we piece ourselves back together. It’s not just a book about therapy, it’s a journey through therapeutic experiences that just might reveal something about your own life. If you only read one book in your life I’d recommend this one as my top 10. Emotional, captivating and inspiring.❤️

4.0 stars. I enjoyed the original book, and discovered the workbook at a good (bad?) time for myself. It took me several off-and-on months of writing and reflection to get through it. I adapted the questions to my own situation and found Gottlieb's guidance very helpful. I’ve always wondered what people meant when they said that someone has “done the work” and now I think I can appreciate that.

I love the book and this workbook is the perfect companion! Lots of insight as always, and exercises that (to me) don't feel silly to do. I'm taking my time with it, as I want to savour it but I can already tell it's gonna be so useful!

I didn’t think I would enjoy a non fiction of this kind, but it was refreshing to see the therapist as a person and who was driving strength from friends, colleagues and patients alike to move ahead in life.

Absolutely loved this! So well written with simply put meaningful messages sprinkled throughout. You fall in love with each character and can see pieces of yourself in everyone's story. This made me laugh and cry and was hard to put down. I miss Wendell, John and the entire cast!

It provided an honest view of the author’s own struggle and compared insightful notes between her own therapy sessions with her sessions to her patients.
The stories of the patients’ are touching, raw and sincere with deep empathy.

At times, I found the author's thoughts and ideas quite foreign and peculiar, but Amy have reviewed this book very highly. So maybe I am the strange one!

Oh, one of the best self-help books!
The way the author has explained how and in what ways our past affects our present / decision making process etc., was really helpful in my own healing journey.
