Trapped beneath the bodies of my dead pack, I wait for my end.
It isn’t death that finds me, but him.
One glance at the alpha who saves me is enough to reveal what he means to me. Everything.
Fated mate.
A man the universe made just for me.
But I can’t stay with him.
Slipping away before I kill Shay’s pack isn’t going to be easy. Not when he’s determined to save me, to protect me, to give me everything I want and need.
I can’t let him, even if I want those same things.
I never counted on the lengths he’ll go to keep me—but most of all, I didn’t count on how much I would want to let him.
A standalone wolf shifter romance that features a protective alpha, an innocent heroine in trouble, and enough swoon-inducing moments, steam, and adult themes to make it suitable for 18+
- I hated how blunt the scene transitions were. I hated all the time jumping that happened in between those transitions. I just wanted a linear story.
- I wanted more pack interactions to be on-page and not just something the hero or heroine mentioned after the fact.
- I disliked how the hero was, in essence, reading the heroine's mind even though it's never mentioned he as that as a "power". I wanted them to actually communicate with each other *on page* and not just have him correctly guessing what she wanted/felt before even she knew what she wanted/felt herself.
- In general, this book needed to be longer. It needed to include the things I mentioned above but also include A LOT of worldbuilding. I was lost with the worldbuilding in this book. I didn't know the pack dynamics, if there are any other packs, do humans know about them? (why or why not?), why are these people after her specifically? (this is answered over halfway into the book. A little too late for my liking).
- The overall pacing was disjointed. The writing was slow and steady but at the same time, it was fast because of all the time jumps and disjointed scene transitions. It honestly felt like I was reading a highlight reel of how the author wanted this story to be and not in a good way.
What I liked:
- The hero was swoon-worthy! He was sweet and so so patient. I loved how he would protect and murder for her if it meant she was safe. I just wanted, again, more on-page interactions between him and his pack considering how close the book made them seem to be.
Note to Self: DNF at 49% It’s not the book, it’s you. You are not in the place for cutesy sweet characters, abrupt chapter starts, nor a story line that seems to be moving so fast and yet not going anywhere. The fact an alpha of a pack would rely on his beta to lead battle WHEN THATS LITERALLY THE ALPHAS JOB just to hide out with his Luna, didn’t help matters.
Plot: Lexa has suffered a horrible tragedy; she saw her entire family slaughtered and believes it was her fault. She's now mute, unable to overcome the trauma. She is found by the alpha of a nearby pack, Shay. He recognizes her as his mate right away, but it will take some coaxing to make Lexa see that she can trust him to take care of her. The danger that attacked her family is still out there, so Shay has his work cut out for him.
Commentary: I always thought Shay was a female name so I was confused at times and had to sort it out in my mind before continuing with the story. I did like the conflict of a mute heroine with her mate that doesn't know how to communicate with her. There were times that it almost seemed like he could read her mind but it felt like it could have been clearer: do mates have that ability or did she just not have a poker face? I thought it was a little strange that the alpha of the pack didn't fight. Usually, the setup in these types of books is that someone else, appointed/asked by the alpha, guards the mate during the fight. Since Shay is supposed to be this amazing fighter, that would have made more sense.
I really really enjoyed this book. I was in such a slump. This book saved me.
It has a wonderful story. The plot was interesting and kept me flipping pages. Heartache. Chemistry. Fighting. All around well done. Give this book a shot.
I saw someone recommend this book and I kept reading, telling myself that it would get better but it didn't. I always respect authors' books because they worked hard to write them but this isn't for me.
So choppy, timeline would just rush ahead, no world building tho lots of potential, FMC not speaking for like the first 40% was also pretty annoying. Just was too cringey and while I did finish it, I skipped and skimmed quite a bit. Don’t recommend honestly.
3.5. A few errors in the plot, and not enough explained about their life.
This was really really close to being brilliant, but it had niggling errors. Lexa loses her voice after the trauma of her whole pack being murdered. When Shay is throwing her up in the lake, a scream of laughter escaped her throat, but then later on Shay is shocked when she speaks. At one point Lexa looks at Mack. There’s no Mack in the book. Mack is in one of her other books. I couldn’t figure out what year this book is set in. They don’t have mobile phones, or computers, and at one point they are eating stew from carved wooden spoons. But then they had sheets on the bed. So what year was it????
Having said all that, I loved it!!! When Lexa is found by Shay and his pack, she’s under the dead body of her dad. Shay takes her to his pack, where she hides under the bed for two months as she’s terrified. When she eventually comes out and shifts back, he realises that she’s a beautiful woman and his mate. Lexa is being hunted by an evil man and his pack. When he realises that she’s still alive, he comes for her. Poor Lexa is traumatised by the deaths of her family and friends, and lives in fear of him finding her again.
Shay is so so sweet. I loved him. Maybe not realistic how he dotes on her, but I don’t care!!! I still loved him. ❤️❤️ Shay won’t let Lexa run away, as she thinks it will protect him and his pack. I would have liked to have known more about his pack. They are just sort of there.
The Alpha’s Silent Mate written by Eve Bale plunges into devastation when Alpha Shay discovers a petite injured wolf surrounded by her brutally slaughtered pack. He recognizes the wolf as his fated mate and the bond snaps in place. Lexa is frozen and frightened by fear after her pack was ravaged and she is the sole survivor. Shay is the Alpha of the Clayfell pack and he vows to protect her. Lexa refuses to speak and doesn’t utter a single word for the next few months while Shay slowly earns her trust. Lexa blames herself for the shifters that eradicated her pack and family. As she begins to care for Shay and his pack, she knows her only option is to escape to keep everyone safe. She knows the shifters are hunting her and will do whatever necessary to capture her for themselves.
This book is a slow-burn insta-love with lots of action, suspense, and the perfect amount of spice. Shay is totally swoon-worthy with how gentle, patient, and sweet he is with Lexa. I devoured this book in one sitting as it grabbed my attention and pulled me into the story. Lexa is an innocent and shy heroine that grows stronger throughout the book. The character development was great and the book was well written. If you’re looking for a sweet but suspenseful shifter love story then definitely check this book out!
Lexa is traumatized into muteness. I tend to like stories that involve communication problems due to disability or different languages, so I liked it when she was silent.
My main issue is that Lexa isn’t mute because of a disability. She’s mute due to obstinance. So one day she gets over it and says something. And after that, she’s ready to talk all day. She tells her story, she wise cracks, she talks back to the enemy. It felt jarring. She’s been mute for months. It didn’t feel like it made sense that she just got over that and started talking constantly and in all situations, including stressful ones.
There also seemed to be something special about her singing that was never fully explained. It was implied that all natural female wolves have good singing voices, because the bad guy asked her for information about other singers, but it was never confirmed.
It never really made sense how 100 bad wolves snuck up on her original pack or why the original pack got wiped out to a man. Why were the bad wolves looking for her when they left her for dead in a pile of dead bodies? There were some plot holes for sure.
This book was okay… but I think it'll take a particular type of reader to really enjoy it fully. The romance was sweet - like, tooth-achingly sweet, and the relationship between the two main characters fell easily into place. If sweet romances are your thing, this book is for you. I prefer a bit more tension and strife to my romantic arch, but it was cute.
My main complaint is that the writing lacked depth. There weren't a lot of characters, and except for the main female lead, we didn't really get to know any of them past a surface level. The writing was filled with "telling" and internal dialogue, and not a lot of outward description or action. The plot wasn't complicated or even terribly engaging, it came down to "werewolves want to steal the main female lead to mate" and that's about it.
That's not to say that the book was bad, it just wasn't fantastic. If you're looking for a short, sweet, werewolf romance with a little bit of spice, then this would be a good book to pick up and speed read through in an afternoon.
Am no stranger to Eve's amazing books, and altho this is a little different then the previous ones i read i will say this is a book you find and it stays with your because it hits home on so many levels!
This book is amazing, a heart throbber, witty & funny.
I love how Lexa and Shay grow close and get to know each other.
A little -points for the way they knew they were mates i didnt like that so much.
The story is Amazing!!! You can really see the love and devotion between the characters.
The journey they go on oh my lanta grab some tissues as you will need them, i sure did.
I wish the book was longer didnt want it to end, i was hooked from the start!
So if you want a perfect standalone that has wolf shifters a kick ass heroinne and a very devoted, handsome and above all protective Alpha look no longer and get reading this beauty!!!
Alpha Shay from the Clayfell pack finds the bodies of a slaughtered group and underneath them, he finds an injured female wolf who turns out to be his fated mate. Lexa appears to be the only survivor of the horrible massacre and she doesn’t speak. She is afraid that she will bring destruction to Shay’s pack as well. She knows she is still being hunted and does not want to draw further danger toward Shay.
Shay and Lexa have realized they are fated mates, but there is so much that is coming their way to make things impossible for them. Lexa’s secrets may end up causing harm to this new pack. Will she try to run away to protect them? Or will she be captured by Aron once more?
I'm definitely going to be binge reading all of Eve Bale's books now!
I LOVE PNR and this book just makes me believe in love more than i do. These two say the simplest stuff and it's the cutest.♡
The story is fantastic, love all the aspects of it. It's different, has a good backstory, the characters are great, the relationship is focused as well as the issues and guilt she lives with.
So I stop at chapter 4… I couldn’t take it. So we have Alexa who was found underneath her dead pack members. She was saved by her mate Shay alpha of his own pack. So she spend 2 mths with him & his pack sleeping under her bed since she didn’t trust him or his pack. He was a sweet as pie with her! Never demanding her to shift to a person (since she was a wolf when he found her) never forced her to face him or get out from under the bed. 2 MTHS she did this! So I just couldn’t take how slow the development is on this story & It seems that the alpha & her are too weak for my taste.
While Shay and Lexa were nice characters and I enjoyed their story, I have to say that the lack of world-building was a bit of an inconvenience. I’m not one to enjoy chapter-long presentation of a country or world but knowing more about where the action was taking place or how this world works would have been appreciated.
Apart from that I liked Shay’s patience and I’m intrigued by Ewan. I have mixed feelings about Lexa but I’m happy she found her HEA if nothing else.
I don't usually write reviews but feel like I need to explain my 3 stars. First off the lead female is just to much inside her head most of the book.... I get she's been through a bunch but damn girl ask for the help that has been given to you. This continues throughout the book her getting stuck in her head, what I mean by this is her just digging herself more into a dark hole of Oh woe is me this is all my fault I'm weak I'll I can do is run. If your into the lead male doing everything and taking care of everything this will be for you.
Alpha Shay finds Lexa as a wolf under a pile of her dead pack. He mistakes her for a pup but immediately realizes that she is his mate. Shay doesn’t speak or shift but allows Shay to take her to his pack worrying the whole time that the ones that slaughtered her pack would do the same to his. When Lexa shifts to her human form Shay sees that she is indeed a woman and things progress but then the problems begin. Danger, death, deception, uncertainty and the love and devotion of packs and true mates are found in this fun read.
This Book is a breathe of fresh air, I love this story line it was great from the moment that I opened it, I couldn't put it down.
I just loved IT , it was perfect , the author was able to place me in everything, it was like watching a movie and walking away was like I hit the pause button and I could still see the scene in my head, absolutely fabulous
Lexi is traumatized when he finds her, but the beautiful alpha keeps her safe until she starts to come out of her shell. Shay has found his mate, but he must let time and patience heal her soul before they can be happy.
I loved the way this book sneaked up on you. Told from Lexi's point of view, the story builds slowly and surely, blending present and past, until all is revealed.
Every once in a while comes a book that you know you’re going to love. It’s hard to give it the justice it deserves when reviewing it. The characters and storytelling bring out emotions that sweep you off your feet. The love and sexual connection between the characters is told in such a heartwarming and beautiful way that add so much to the story. This is what love should be like.
6 Wows ~ Boy oh boy, what a story about shifter love and HEA. ❤️🔥❤️🔥
Wow again, Eva knows how to write a story that touches all of your emotions. She gives you innocence, deception, passion and best of all long lasting love. The Alpha is sexy, charming, and also a little innocent. The mate is damaged goods that only he can save her. Bravo Bravo again Eva. PS love your imagination.
This was a great story. This is the first thing I have read by this author but I can’t wait to read more. I really enjoyed the interactions between Shay and Lexa. They are fated mates but things aren’t going to go smoothly for them. She has some secrets that could affect her new pack.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
3.5 Trying to get through my unread books on my kindle when this one popped up. I can’t actually remember buying it or what it was about, so going into it blindly I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. With the title being a bit obvious about what the book is about. Lexa is a silent wolf after witnessing the massacre of her pack. Shay an Alpha finding his fated mate amongst the chaos.
I really liked this book…. I loved the main characters and the storyline…. I’ve read a couple of books within this series - which have all been standalone books like this one - and have enjoyed every one of them… It’s also a fairly short read which makes it easier to get through quickly if finding time to read is an issue for you……. A good read….
Hard book to get through. I loved the idea behind this story, loved our mate. But lexa was beyond my ability to not want to shake the poop out of her. Her character had this broken record personality. I wanted her to have a little bit of fight. Not an attire book of feeling bad for herself, or blaming herself constantly.60% and I just couldn't anymore
What a disappointment. I mean, it was well-written, but the plot was HORRIBLY cliched, the characters were bland and one-dimensional, the female mc was wimpy and lame, and the world-building was actually nonexistent. I’m so disappointed, because I actually really liked the other book I read by this author, but this one was a hard pass.
If u are in the mood to read about a female shifter being loved how everyone wants to be loved by their soul mate this is the book for you I'm a fast reader and I read this book in one afternoon it's a great story and only one so u get the whole story 😉 enjoy
