I wasn't quite as enamored with this book as many of the reviewers on this site are.

For this book. I chose to listen to the Audible version read by Jonathon Davis. He wasn't a terrible reader but I did find some of his narration a bit awkward and his depiction of his wife, in particular, sounded like she was always pissed off rather than simply scared.

The book takes place in 2150 but it feels like only 20-50 years from now rather than 125 years in the future. People are all using electrics vehicles but all still with the ability for the passengers to drive. There are air cars, but Chris is driving a gasoline engine Ford F150. The neighbor driving a Chevy and another a Tesla. Given that 150 years ago humanity used horses and couldn't fly, I would have thought 125 years from now, we might see something more futuristic.

I found it somewhat that within 1 day of the invasion starting (across the whole world), that Chris and his family are being hunted down individually by the Kyra - despite them getting out of Dodge and to a vacation home of his former boss. Out of the billions of people on the planet and within less than 24 hours, the aliens are already stalking his family and ? Great action but the premise feels a bit weak.

Overall, there is lots of action, violence, gore, and tension to keep you well entertained. Scott did a good job with the character development from Chris's pure-bitch former boss, her subservient husband, to the relationship between Chris and his daughter.

I have read and enjoyed other books by Scott, but I cannot say this book really grabbed me enough to go onto book 2.

This is the first book I've read of Jasper T Scotts and I was after only 10% through going to give up, Jasper has got a very unique way of writing, so different from what I've read before I felt lost, but I was actually liking the story so I gave it a little longer and it really grew on me, I was able to follow the story and characters really well and before long I'd finished the book, gob smacked I finished it, really looking forward to the next installment in October, a definite 5***** from me

Jasper T Scott is one of my favorite authors and he never disappoints me with his stories. This book is an adrenaline rush. It is a mix of military science fiction with dystopian aspects as well as some genetic engineering. It is action packed as there is all kinds of things happening to this family. Going from being fired to fleeing aliens in less than an hour. Trying to save your wife and children when there are missiles exploding all around you and aliens eating people is hard work. This is the beginning of a great new series that is easy to read and entertaining. I was sad when I reached the end as for me, it was a page turner and I couldn't put it down. I want to know what new challenges the family will face in the future. I would highly recommend this book.

Good, fun, fast paced evil Alien story. You have to suspend belief a whole bunch to Believe that with everyone else around, the “hero’s” family would be targeted. But hey, its aliens.

I really like the books by Jasper Scott. I like that this series looks to be focused on this invasion from the perspective of one central character.

A good beginning.

Well, this book surprised me. I didn't realize that it's actually a prelude to a previous Jasper T. Scott series titled, "Ascension War". That series was pretty intense and introduced a kind of horror theme to those books. Part of that theme was brought about when the crew got infected with some kind of alien virus that went about changing human DNA. That series dealt with the USS Forerunner, an early colonization mission to a very distant planet. This series deals with what happened on Earth while the Forerunner was out doing it's thing. There's not as much horror in this book, but I still don't feel comfortable reading about how weak humans are. This is another books where we're invaded and apparently just give up.

Yes, strange spaceships start showing up over Los Angeles where our main character, Chris Randall, is or was a body guard/driver for a very wealth family in this part of California in the year 2150. He's been very good at his job although there hasn't been much in the way of danger with this particular job. Still it was a job until it wasn't! And that's what just happened, he was fired by Ms. Pearson! She says that his services can be provided much cheaper by the two new security robots that they have bought. I guess robots now are frequently appearing as near human-looking and doing lots of jobs humans used to do. The Pearson's already have several house bots so the security bots will fit right in and Chris Randall is out. He's had the job for 10 years and now it's over.

He has a wife, Bree, and two small children plus his mother lives with them in their small house that needs work. Bree works in a casino and both have pretty long and tiring schedules. Chris had just picked up his wife and is getting ready to go home from the casino when all heck breaks loose. Something in the sky's over LA are attacking everything. This is the start of the invasion. We don't learn much about these invaders until later in the story. Most of the book is about Chris and his families attempt to stay safe even while everything is getting blown up. He does decided to vacate their small home since it appears to be in the danger area for the invasion. While everyone else is panicking, he tells his wife and his mother to pack everything and the kids into his truck and they head for the hills. All the power has gone out in the city and with the missiles bombing LA, things are going up in smoke and it's not safe to be around in the dark.

So, now you'll read about where the Randall family goes to be safe. It's not that hard to figure out since his "former" employers were very wealth and had a nice cabin in the mountains and with all the destruction he's seen, he thinks it unlikely they will make it to the cabin. And if they do, he knows there are several other very expensive cabins in this mountain region which could hide his family with whatever is coming. Only the Pearson's do make it up to their cabin and so does some other people. Some of the encounters aren't going to turn out too peaceful and the invaders are now landing forces.

Eventually, Chris has an encounter with the aliens and it turns out these are they Kyrons which you can also read about in the other series I mentioned above. While he is pretty good at protecting people and property, he's just one guy and it turns out the Kyrons can make themselves invisible. This doesn't help Chris in the least and results in something terrible happening to one of his children. You'll need to read to find out what.

I know the story on the other end of this with the other series about the Kyrons. I'm not sure I care to read two more books about Earths struggles against the Kyrons. Earth has already given up, apparently with much of a fight. It seems the invasion started and four days later all of humanity had surrendered! That's not a story I like to read about. Sure, the invaders are much more advanced than us, but we know they can die just like humans do so why not fight for your freedom. Doesn't make a lot of sense, except Chris Randall does fight back until he can't. It's strange that he does admit that he was in the military at one time and left as a Corporal. That's not a very high rank to have been in the military for any number of years and I'm not all that sure he would have learned his warrior skills that well, but he does alright fighting when he does have to do so. Good story, but not one I'm really interested in reading further.

Aliens conquer earth in just three days - 4.5 stars

The day that Chris Randall gets fired as the personal security force for the Pearson family is the day that the aliens arrive. There are three groups of aliens who arrive in massive spaceships destroying all of the world's major population centers including Los Angeles where Chris and his family reside. While the year is 2150 and the world has sent out explorations but no humans have witnessed the technology that the aliens have including super-fast travel and invisibility.

When the Southern Californians realize that there is an invasion and try to head for the hills, their save-their-family plans are effective as an EMP pulse disables all vehicles. Sometimes the un-lug/plug-back-in strategy works so a few people can move out. The aliens who appear to be flocks of birds from a distance easily find and eliminate most resistance. Some aliens who look like hippopotamuses with laser weapons and sharp teeth "clean up" many of the stragglers. The leaders of the united world are captured; those who live have strings attached and a strange helmet. They encourage everyone not to resist.

In the space of a few days, a virus changes people into a different life form - not as attractive in appearance, strength and beliefs as when they were humans - devastating to other family members. Their ear stalks are off-putting and their new diet of raw meat - human or other - is frighting. The adults of the Randall and Pearson family try to survive; this is the basis of the first book of the Kyron Invasion.

Chris Randall, who used to be a space soldier until robots took over his job, almost single-handedly protects, the combined families. Soldiering through the pain of laser burns and broken ribs, Chris does an admirable job of defending his extended family as they try to avoid detection. This sets up a military science fiction sequence that can't be satisfied with just book one. Readers should plan to sign up for the exciting, quick-moving series. In spite of the technology, the human reactions make the actions seem credible.

I read “Arrival The Kryon Invasion , Book 1” in one day , almost in one sitting - it was that good.
On a quiet summer evening in Sam Bernardino, Cal. , all is normal . Set in a near future time of a future when all of earth is United under one governing body, when smart bots do most of work, drive cars, run communication, etc, the only jobs left for not well educated humans is at the low level of service. But then everything blasts open as Alien ships suddenly appear overhead and begin raining misses on major cities around the earth detonating nukes in the atmosphere to disable all nets .
Not everyone dies. In suburban areas, some escape to the desert or to the hills. One of which is Gary Randall, exArmy , ex- personal bodyguard, husband and father who takes his family off to a mountain cabin to wait and see what is coming. Of course, alien life forms are landing. The kill anyone who resists, but not everyone. As Gary and his family soon discover, the Aliens have a plan for the earth survivors. That plan, well is for you to discover by settling down to read this very good first volume in a planned trilogy. (Note that book one and book two are available on Kindle Unlimited as of this writing.)
The author has a well planned with a sympathetic main character who is neither a super hero nor a nerd. Gary Randall is stron, likable and resourceful, and
Believable. The author Jasper Scott builds a good world for the action to fill. This casual reader of Sci-fi can say that the book is not heavy on tech talk or heavy scientific jargon.
” Arrival” is written for the reader’s involvement and enjoyment, and it worked for me. I plan on starting volume two tonight , and if it holds up as well as the first book, I look forward to the final chapter coming soon.

Kyrons sneaky bad.

The earth is invaded, this time by the Kyron Federation, a group of rhino sized 4 legged aliens led by much smarter aliens with wings. Hey it's sci fi, waddya want?

Well, a good story is a start, and this has one. It starts as a military veteran is fired from his job and replaced by robots, just like when he was in the service. It then careens into an alien invasion (see above). There is a mad pickup ride to Big Bear lake (it's based around LA), confrontations with the aliens, more flight, confrontation with a possible vagrant, more alien confrontation, and the protagonists daughter being abducted by the Kyron. Frantic search to find daughter in an alien ship, bringing her to the local hospital to see the only doctor left, and Niles getting infected. Oh Niles Is the head of the family that fired him, and he turns into a Dreg. Then every one is heading out on an alien bus with the Kyron soldiers, who used to be regular military but now have red eyes.

Got it? BTW, this isn't even half of the details. It was great fun and an easy read, highly recommended, I have already downloaded the other two books in the series.

In Scott's Ascension Wars, The Forerunners ships are sent out from Earth to discover suitable planets for colonisation. After Forerunner One's 90 year journey the crew encounter not only a habitable world, but alien life, the Kyra. By the time Forerunner One makes the journey back to earth it is with the realisation that all those years ago in first encountering the alien race, they had inadvertently given the Kyra a road map to earth, who in being able to reach earth decades earlier are now humanity's masters. The Arrival is the start of a new series by Scott that now tells the story of that first arrival of the Kyra on earth through the experience of a former soldier Chris, his wife Bree and their children. Another incredible, fast paced, adventure, military SF story by a master in the genre. While this can be read before the Ascension Wars, I would suggest first reading that series and then visit this book in what promises to be another exciting Scott adventure.

This was an author supplied ebook of book #1 offered to get me hooked into the series.

I have had this book for a while. Finally got around to giving it a try.

I am not a big fan of survivalist protagonists. They just seem to come across as too self centered from the start. I find it hard to connect with them. I get it that to be successful in a SHTF world, you have to start off on the right foot, but these characters just seem to immediately assume it is a SHTF turning point based on little solid information. I do appreciate not saturating the reader with a lot of details and moving the story along, but I would have liked a bit better setup.

Too much fantasy science fiction in this alien invasion tale for me. Book #1 did not hook me into reading more.

But you may really like this tale, so give it a try. Have a GoodReads.

pass with a push

Lots of things could have been done better to lay the ground work of future installments. We got the “who” and “what” answered in this first book but not the . why” and only a part of the “where”. A good series writer needs to answer all these questions skillfully in the first installment of his story. The remaining installments should elaborate on these answers and surprise the reader. Done correctly, the reader wants to read on. Done incorrectly, and the reader’s interest waned because there is no closure for the first installment. Given this, I cannot recommend this book as anything but a stand alone with its generous load of action and general mayhem that would ensue following an alien invasion with superior technology. So…3 out of 5 stars, a definite PWAP. 🫣

OMG! I'm hooked on this series already. The idea of going about your daily lives and suddenly something arrives in the skies around the world is always an interesting thought. Somewhere, some- time, this is actually likely to happen to Earth. But what happens next is the big question. Are the aliens friendlies or foes? And if foes, what do they want with our civilization? And how do we fight back? This is a very fast paced story, so don't blink too much! I can't wait for Book 2 to come out and see how this story continues. You've got my interest piqued, Jasper.

Alien invasion - a new perspective

This book provides a somewhat new take on the alen invasion theme with the alens invading Earth in order to create hybrid soldiers out of humans so as to fight in a galactic war. Characterization is reasonably well done. It’s a first person narrative so the main character is more fully developed that the others but that is understandable. The storyline is suspenseful and action packed and the ending left me wishing to read the sequel immediately. All-in-all an enjoyable read.

Wild Ride

I liked the story concept but felt like something was missing. The main character is kind of hard to like and tends to act first and think later. This continues to put them in danger. The alien invasion is complicated more than it needs to be. Lots of action and would prefer it to have been a little more thought out. The constant moving around just dragged it on a bit. Not sure if I will continue the series. If you think it is all in one book do not bother to read this, no ending yet. A cliffhanger of sorts and I am undecided if I care enough to read book 2.

This was a pretty good book about an alien invasion and two families trying to stay hidden to stay alive. Lots of killing of aliens that ate people, dead or alive.

Had I known this would end in a semi-cliffhanger I would never have bought. God only knows when the next book will be out on Audible. And since I average 175+ books a year do you really think I'll remember this book?

No romance and the F-bomb was used 13 times.

As for the narration: Jonathan Davis did a good job on the emotions. When he was supposed to whisper he actually did.

This was an overall unenjoyable read. I'm not sure how the author managed to take what could have been an interesting plot and ruined it with painfully boring characters. The characters are so stereotypical, archetypal, and remain flat by the end of the book. And personally the main character's pretentiousness makes it very hard to find him even remotely likeable. Additionally, the "climax" and ending to this book remain unexplained and undeveloped. You finish the book feeling empty and generally confused. I really wish I didn't waste my time reading this in its entirety.

Could have been better

The only word I will say about this book is underwhelmed. The cover of this book looks sick at first. Once I arrived at that “intersection” that turned the whole story. I knew it was 3 stars. Sadly enough it was…I felt that the author didn’t give enough suspense for their arrival. It was just skipping from A to D without explaining the B and C parts. As for the rest of the story, it was okay and lack in richness of unknown. Do I wish for more…hell yeah. I can imagine the rich suspense, emotions, and unknown but this isn’t it.

An entertaining story

This is a well written book with a lot of action and good character development for at least a st the primary characters. Some are a bit stereotypical. It is obvious that this was written as one long story and then broken into separate volumes at convenient points. Book 1 does not resolve any of the conflicts that have been set up. Nevertheless, I do recommend this book if you want a fast, entertaining, scifi read.

I read a great deal of serious non-fiction. Once in awhile, I like to read something that is “just for fun” and this book did it.

It’s a breezy style that gets into pretty dark stuff with lots of fast action. The premise is a stretch, but hey, it isn’t meant to be high literature. The author is just spinning a yarn. It had gun play, familiar bitchy women and other men we have all met at one time or another.

You can read it in one day and give yourself a break from absorbing knowledge.

Good books, not so original characters or situations.

I like reading Jasper’s books. The story flows and it is interesting to follow up with twists and quite unpredictable developments. The characters and situations are heavily inspired by already seen movies or books. That feels a bit weird and somehow lessen a very good experience by a notch. All in all, I still keep on reading Jasper’s books!

The Invasion

Chris, former military, is struggling to make ends meet in a future that doesn’t seem to far from today. Married with two kids, he’s doing all he can in a world where humans are quickly replaced with our robotic counterparts.

After his thoughts on a raise from his employer are crushed, it’s an especially long ride to pick up his wife from her hostess job in their ancient truck. He breaks the news to her and with a severance, it still means hard times are ahead. Home is supposed to be your sanctuary but when objects enter our atmosphere and start destroying the cities, Chris knows it’s time to get out of dodge. So begins the terrorizing Kyron invasion and the birth of the resistance.

Wow, great sci-fi apocalyptic thriller!

Arrival is a roller coaster ride that ends to soon but has plenty of twists and surprises along the way. Great characters and the world is well described. I sincerely hope that book two will be released soon. Author Jasper Scott always uses his tremendous imagination but he surpassed my expectations this time. And they were high! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

What a pleasant surprise

I came across this author by chance. It is a excellent book. The story itself is is a page turner. I thorough liked his character's and how they were protrayed in the story. The only thing I didn't care for is the main character is written in the third character format a little too often. It does not take anything from the story though. Aside from that, I highly recommend this book.

Still holding my breath

I wasn't sure about this book when I read the description, but I really do like Jasper Scott's works. Wow. There is so much suspense flowing through these pages that it just rushes you along through the pages, then out the end of the book.

I can't wait to get into #2, So I'll just get on with it. Give this a read if you're at all into sci-fi or aliens. You'll be glad you did!

Confu----sion

That makes one think, what would I do. The read was really good and the progression of characters was easy to follow. Bad guys and not so bad, but. I reached the end and mr. Scott got overly ambitious and confused the end for me. To too two many critters for my taste. Chimaras, which I know, but who, what, why do they fit in. Guess I will not read the next book in line

Good Start to a Good Story

A bit of a disappointment in that this book didn't have an actual end to it. By that I mean you have to get the rest of the series or I just wasted time reading book number 1. Most series I have read have an end to each book where it isn't necessary to read the rest of the series. Other than that, this book was well written and had a lot of action to it after a bit of a slow start.

If you're looking for a book about survival during an alien invasion, then this is for you. For some reason it just isn't clicking with me. I think it's character development; I suppose if I stuck with it maybe it would be worth it. But I suspect that this author's writing style and I just don't jive.

The narration by Jonathan Davis is good, but not great. Either the character is blurry or he's misinterpreting the character for my taste. Either way, it's not working. DNFing at 80%.
