Artemis University #15

Adjusting Course

Rate this book
My name is Tamsin Vale and… Uuuuggghhhh! I’m so tired of saying the same things over and over again without enough changing. I get the dirty councils out of the way, and new villains pop up in the form of fairy elders and ancients.

I get them handled and the commanders are the problem.

I smack them into line and the nobles are my issue.

I catch a bunch of them red-handed trying to commit treason, and people are still listening to the lies of the remaining ones.

Why do I even bother? Every time they push me too far, the line of what I’ll suffer just gets further and further from what is acceptable. I yell and they don’t listen. I plead with them and they are unmoved. I rationally lay things out and it falls on deaf ears.

So if they’re going to keep acting like children who push their limits and throw fits, I’m going to punish them like a parent should. It’s time to show everyone that they have no chance to control me and the game we’re playing is mine. Maybe then we can actually fix our society and world before we implode.

Artemis University is an ongoing, hot burning reverse harem, university-age paranormal academy series with darker elements, strong language, violence, and a heroine who follows her own moral compass of what is right… And who she ends up giving her heart to.

book 15 and it might as well have been book 5. Tired of reading this authors page fillers.

I really like the plot and most of the characters but this has drawn out way too long. Nothing in this book advances the plot. The whole book has only been a couple weeks max and absolutely nothing has happened to move the plot forward from the last book. Sure at 98%, basically the ending, something small happens and I’m sure the next book will be about the 2 weeks they have to come to the decision. It’s hundreds of pages of a character whining and it’s a character I really liked. End this series. There’s no reason there has to be more than like 2 books left. She fixes fairy and graduates. Then a book where everything wraps up with her mates and her dad passing away or finding his family to watch over her or something. Let’s stop writing filler books in series. Or have them be novellas in between the actual books.

Please for the love of all that is good- DO NOT FORGIVE HIM

Ok. Maybe I'm just riled up by the end here but for blank blank sake I swear if you try to redeem that mother-facking blank blank Julian I'm going to delete the whole series. I mean it! PLEASE break the mold of letting men "earn" their way back from abuse! I want him to bleed and suffer and still get tossed. Lol maybe that's vindictive but please let me have it!

What did I just read? This is the fifteenth book. We still have all the editing errors, like there was zero proofreading before publishing. I mean, this is an experienced author by now. I expect there to be some improvement on this front as more books are written and released, but I guess we are just expected to tolerate whatever we are blessed with.

We still have all the exact BS going on that has been going on for books now. I don't even enjoy reading these books anymore. I'm not sure why I keep torturing myself. I thought maybe I just put myself too much into the characters I read, but I see I am not the only one who feels this way. I am always depressed after I read one of these books, and I have been for about ten books now. If I wanted to feel this way, I could just go read the news.

On top of that, we have characters acting out of character. I will never understand how the person who came up with the characters seemingly has no idea how they act or think. We have one character we were all starting to like. Turns out it was all a lie and he was really just being selfish the entire time. Then we have another character who has been so great about communication, suddenly abandoning the FMC because of the previous character, whom we have all been lied to about. When everyone is stupidly aware of the FMCs abandonment issues. But sure, her mate would do that to her when everyone knows she is thisclose to a massive breakdown. And don't get me started on the FMC and the end of this book.

I am so over it. I loved this story at first. Enough that I forgave the lack of editing, the rape of the FMC by one of her "mates," losing the best friend, the repeated trauma to the FMC, the lack of anyone caring about said trauma the FMC deals with regularly and so many other things. I even loved the idea of this being so many books, because things can't just be fixed overnight by one person. But man, there is quite literally one bright spot in this book. And it's that Tamsin gets to be free and have a snowball fight with some kids. I loved the squishmallows but hated that they came about because the rejected mate started it. Tamsin USED to be a badass, strong FMC. Now she just lets everyone walk all over her, and I'm as depressed as she is. Only I don't have to take it anymore.

goodbye Artemis - won’t be back for any more books

I should have left this review four books ago. Apparently the author is working through something in her life and using this series to vent it all out. Dr Julian Craftsman’s personality has basically changed, and while our female lead can do whatever she wants, leave whenever she wants, run away, have an emotional crisis - forbid if it happens to a soulmate under curse. That is NOT forgivable. Hence my belief this is therapy, not fiction. Then, Tamsin is SO worried about her relationship with Hudson, but NEVER addresses it for 90% of this book - but again, Julian is supposedly the jerk. Can’t take her any longer.

Wait…what???

Wow…so, hmmmm…yeah I’m lost. WTF was the ending I just read?? That’s not Tamsin, AT ALL!! We went from not caring that others don’t like her and not sacrificing herself, to THAT??? How sway??? Neldor didn’t surprise me, I expected nothing less, although I hoped for different and that he wouldn’t end up just being a cliché. Julian?? No, just absolutely no. For the love of all things Tamsin, scratch that out. Hudson… that seems unrealistic to a certain extent. He’s always communicated horribly, but River has always been a voice of reason and I just can’t see River allowing that path to that extent. Darby is still the GOAT. If that changes I’d probably block Erin Flynn and report her as spam.

I do feel like her final decision with her people and realm should have come much sooner in the story. I feel like I could’ve done without a lot that was in this book: more of Tamsin repeating herself, acknowledging that she’s repeating herself and no one is listening so she vows not to repeat herself, but then…repeating herself. She’s Tamsin effin Vale, her dad is a freaking demigod of untold power, make some heads roll and be done with the BS. There’s no way people should still be speaking to her the way they do in all the public settings that they do and still be getting away with it, that’s unreasonable and unrealistic.

Still looking forward to more of the story, but hopefully it’s not more of the same. And Julian, again, just no. Not the least because I can’t see Darby backtracking after he stepped up like he did. It wouldn’t be fair to allow that to happen.

I will start this with the only minuscule, microscopic, itty bitty positive I have for this one - the Squishmallows thing is adorable. Had me smirking to myself because it was so dang cute - you know, before every other character involved started making demeaning, belittling comments about an abused adult who had no safe childhood reacting to having her first experience with a stuffed animal.
Phew, single grain is almost positive rice aside - What the HELL DO YOU MEAN SHE TOOK BACK THE TEACHER?!?
AFTER ALL OF THAT AND RIGHTFULLY IGNORING HIM FOR LIKE 2 BOOKS (lost track because I had to turn to different books to relatively keep my sanity) SHE TAKES THE BRITISH ASSWIPE BACK JUST SO SHE CAN BE THE UNDERSTOOD VICTIM AFTER HE FUCKS IT UP AGAIN?
I'm so mad. What the hell is the point of this series? Truly, what's the point? She's had to resign herself to returning to an abusive relationship, is still protecting people from being sexually assaulted on campus (THANK YOU FOR DOING LITERALLY NOTHING, ADULTS), had to magically enforce her people into giving her a single year of not being judged for others' lies, IS HAVING YET ANOTHER MATE HAVING A MELTDOWN OVER MISCOMMUNICATION.
Miscommunication in book 15 is disgusting. I hate this series so much. I hope she crashes out and starts cleaning her board. AHHHH.

Nothing happy

Her life is always so bad. Nothing ever seems to go well. I'm invested in the characters and the story, but it is so depressing to read. This book though, SPOILER!!

This story, Neldor, has done a complete 180. The last few books he has been getting better, and in the last one, he and Tamsin had been growing closer. The only thing holding them back from getting together was the bad expectations from everyone else. Now, suddenly, he's the bad guy again. The only change was him telling Tamsin he knew they were mates. It feels like the author forgot all the emotional progress Neldor had made, and how much he and Tamsin had been doing so well. Now he's back to being some snake-in-the grass who was only using her for her position. It doesn't line up with his previous actions and all we read up to this point.

I keep wanting to give up on this series, thinking it might get better (the writing is good, don't take that wrong), but bad shit just keeps happening, and Tamsin is always depressed or down on herself. It's hard to keep reading when the story makes you connect with her, so you constantly feel like shit too. And now, Hudson is being difficult again? WTH?

I hope, hope, hope, that her horrible life gets better.

lackluster

While I love this series and the fmc, this was not a great installment of Artemis.

While I understand it makes sense for Tasmin to take some heat, her constant confrontations and verbal attacks by everyone under the sun is exhausting. I’m not sure there would have been a book if there wasn’t all of that constant bickering.

She keeps saying she’s taking a break and then she proceeds to live her life exactly the same way…. I don’t get it. Maybe she should legit disappear for a month or two to recharge.

I was also disappointed then Neldor turned out to be disingenuous….it seemed like that was going the other way.

Not sure why Luca is just randomly popping up? Poor Hudson he’s my favorite- don’t wreck their relationship please!

Craftsman - 🙄

Here’s hoping the next book moves the plot along a little more.

Drawn out, Repetitive, and Immature

I fell in love with Tamsin from the very first book. Her story is fascinating and I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation. But here we 15 books later and have made very little progress… I don’t want to give up on Tams but the writing and her dialogue make her very immature. We’ve come a long way from the baby talk but still have a looooong way to go for someone in her position. She’s had a rough go at life, I completely understand that. But I have to say she’s not exactly someone I strive to be. She’s courageous in the face of danger and fiercely loyal BUT she’s also a HUUUGE hypocrite. She’s stubborn and childish and cannot admit to her own faults and she has plenty! She admits to magical limitations sure but romantically she’s more than a hot mess. She thinks the world is out to get her and while most are she’s so jaded she can’t appreciate those around her. These books are so redundant in the sense that the “bad guys” make a plan to take her out and she defeats them or her men make a mistake and she practically cut them off for good. Julian was in the wrong 100% he’s a selfish lover but tams is also a child for constantly engaging with him on the socials. I would love to finally see this story close itself out soon or at the very least the books be filled with meaningful content. Book 15 was unnecessary to the story and I hope the author really digs deep to push Tams story in a more productive direction moving forward. Two stars instead of one because I genuinely liked this story and still hold out some hope for how it turns out!

A bit of middle book syndrom ⭐⭐⭐3.5⭐⭐⭐

Well, don't expect big developments here because it won't be😕 It felt like a stopgap book. Nothing new, Tamsin is brooding for the beginning till the end, fighting and framing the bad guys with long, long monologues about how stupid and mysoginistic they are..you see, nothing new.
The end is surprising and a bit shocking. Tamsin decision came out of nowhere and for me it's just a pretext to "rehabilitate" a certain character...(you know who😏).
The next book will certainly be better so keep reading the serie!

Ugh!!!

I truly hope that things really start to turn around. I'm not a fan of what's going on. One, I hate what's happening between T and Hudson. So not a fan at all. I also dislike the dynamics between T and Darby. I am happy that Neldor is being pushed further away. Also Julian. But honestly, I need to see things working better for T. Its really too much and seems bad garbage every single minute. I get it, its taking a toll but I'm tired of it non-stop. Please, change it and give us better days for T. Looking forward to a different scenario next.

Too much angst, not enough plot

The last few of the series have just focused on the characters pain, with little in the way of story. Needs a new editor or proof reader to focus on storytelling

disappointed

I have loved this series however I just do not understand why the Author spent the last 2 books fixing the relationship with Neldor and showing real character growth between the two for her to just completely undo it. It also doesn’t make sense with anything we have learned about him in the last few books.. it was almost like the author forgot her two previous books… hate to say it but this was honestly my least favorite book it just didn’t make sense with the story line she was building previously… I’m hope that the next is better.

Still like the series, downgraded from love. Things get repetitive. Like always the Relationships existing, non existing and also the change of roles of people like Mel or her Family.

The two week break she took, was not long enough.

I’m tired of the way the world views her. However, I’m mostly tired of her repeating this crap with Julian. She cut out Lucca for less, and he actually gave her space. Then worked his way to being her friend. He’s still being pushed off because of Julian’s treatment of her. It’s like she knows this logically, but she’s still punishing him anyway. Don’t get met started on Neldor.

I used to like the FMC, but she’s turned into a whiny little bitch wallowing in self-pity & incapable of setting healthy boundaries. She continues to welcome toxic people into her life & bending to the masses to the detriment of her relationships. She quickly cut off the bear for a perceived error but is now accepting the professor back into her life for political reasons. She’s turn into a week willed whiny masochist that’s self inflicting pain & blaming everyone around her. I don’t know why I’m reading this series & don’t recommend it.

Please note the following review encompasses books 13 through 19 of the SERIES. As each book depends on the prior books, I am not reviewing each individually to cut down on repetition. Following this review, I will be reviewing the final six books of the series with one final review of the series as a whole.

As always, I will endeavor to minimize spoilers, but please read at your own risk.

If you've read my earlier reviews, you know that I have been raving about this series since I picked up Upended Life. I have honestly been quite surprised by how much I have enjoyed what I've read so far, and the emotional investment has been staggering. So it is with a heavy heart that I say I have found some issues in this set of books that have slightly turned me off.

I do not enjoy game playing in relationships, real or fictional. I do not enjoy recurring relationship problems. Unfortunately, that is a reality of this fictional world. Don't get me wrong, it's all very well written and handled rather admirably by the individual characters, but I personally find it tiresome. I am VERY pleased to be able to note that these situations have, for the most part, been resolved.

I do appreciate that the characters do not always, or even frequently, choose the easy path, and one bonus to a 26 book series is that as a reader, I am able to watch the character development. Even though it is written from a single PoV, I feel invested in more of the characters than I am probably meant to. I relish being able to dig deep into their psyches and trying to guess what comes next.

As I start Layering Resentment, I am more than a little sad to realize that I'm starting that final stretch towards the conclusion. I have only taken about half an hour since I finished book 19, and I am already jonesing for my next fix. Artemis University may have ruined me, but in the best possible manner.

However, before I dive into the next book, I do want to add a content warning of sorts because mental health matters. Contained in the story so far, you will find racism, classism, prejudice and past trauma (physically, emotionally, and smexually.) There are also forced abductions, bullying outside of the harem, references to ongoing trafficking, violence, attempted forced mating and SA, intimate partner abuse, family disconnect and related trauma from both sides, and discussion of forced breeding. Characters have ongoing mental health issues, including anxiety, panic attacks, depression, fear of abandonment, grief & loss, self-worth issues, and suicidal ideation. Please know your limits and read responsibly.

High hopes end with confusion

I’m all for heart-wrenching plot and heroines that check in with their mental health but even I can see that some of Tamsin’s issues seem to be a bit repetitive. Poor girl is in a tailspin right now and not making much progress. Sometimes life is taking three steps forward and ten steps back but some of the character interactions threw me for a loop. I still want this series to continue and not be rushed since Tamsin and crew have definitely bled enough to fill a river of pain, anger and depression. Some thoughts with minor spoilers below
-
-
-
Why is Julian involved so much? (Don’t get me wrong there was a time when I liked the clueless Brit but Tamsin is already talking about her decline in mental health due to him. Having a relationship with him at all makes no sense at present)

Why did Neldor do another complete 180 when other books spent time building their relationship. Tamsin previously admitted he was her mate and that they couldn’t be together because of xyz. They seemed to have feelings developing of ATLEAST friendship. Supposedly at times Neldor even understood her better than others but were supposed to believe that in this book he doesn’t even know some of the most basic things about her? I’m not sure I would believe it.

Thank all the gods for Darby, he’s the one redeeming feature of this.

I support Luke’s bad boy self and look forward to seeing more of him.

Squishmallows and Lucca, finally someone is checking in and it’s the one that Tams cut the bond with.

-.- Why is Hudson being a prat all of a sudden when he’s been steadfastly learning and growing with Tams all this time?

Aside from all of this I have this book four stars. The book itself is probably one of my least favorite of all of the series. I’m hoping it’s one of the last bumps in the road before Tams refocuses and regains some of her own confidence and mental health. She started with some baby steps and implemented something I hope blossoms in the next book.

Artemis University 15

I had to take a moment to consider how to word this review. I honestly don’t think I can fairly say that I enjoyed it all that much. We are back to having issues with Hudson, for no real reason. Lucca is making her think of him with the cute squishies honestly my favorite part of this book has been her childlike wonder with those and the snowball fight. Darby for once isn’t perfect and has jealousy issues which I found very refreshing. Neldor whom it took so long to get to really like and want him and Tamsin together has been relegated back to the selfish prince, negating all the positive strides. That flip flop kinda got me because why go backwards? I’m honestly confused by all of that he doesn’t really want her, I guess we all were reading different books when that happened. Do not get me started on Craftsman, just tear out my heart turning him into some callous jerk. Tamsin has the right to be wary, he hurt her. But and I do say but him having been tainted by black magic and his own mom counts for nothing. In her merry go round of her mates she’s not doing something wrong to cause any of it? Are we just waiting to Mr Underground to swoop in next when she’s upset with her men again and become another mate? Not saying that I would be against him being added but I think the cold hot with Hudson needs resolved, the Lucca issue stays as is because his father,Craftsmen can find redemption and rejoin his mate, Neldor well stop the flip flop on him if he’s not gonna be the fairy mate then give her one who is worthy without all the darn head drama.

Holy crap!!!

I cannot get enough!!! And my heart hurts for Tamsin do so bad. What i love about this series is that while i get happy when something goes right for tamsin .... Something bad or sad or just plain shitty happens. And i like this because it reflects real life. If any of this were real i truly believe tamsin would have just as many problems in the real world as she does in the books. I love that Erin seems to put herself in tamsins shoes and look at that world and this realistically so its not all hearts and rainbows.
This book had a lot happening. Both good and bad. I am SHOCKED by whats going on with Hudson but things had been so good with him i guess its time so im dying to see whats going to happen.
I am also SHOCKED by the ending and my heart hurts for tams so damn bad. I just cant believe Craftsman is this man i had so much hope for him and Neldor? Geez he needs to rake a long walk off a short pier.
Anyway Im very interested to see what happens with everything that happened in the last 2-3 chapters AND what's gonna happen with the Faries.
Im just praying that Darby and Tamsin stay strong and loving cause i might go into a severe depression of Tamsin loses that one solid relationship.
So.... Cant wait for book 16. Loved this one as usual and will be rereading immediately.

Hmm…So much to say

I will open by saying I have loved this series so much I’ve read the first few books multiple times, as they’re my favorite in the series. However, I cannot understand why the last few books have deteriorated. They’re not enough to make me give up as I’m hoping for that major turnaround to wow us, but I feel like the last 2-3 books could have been made into 1 and left it at that. The dragging on of the elders, nobles, and especially Tamsin’s relationships is slowly making me really depressed and annoyed, honestly. In my opinion, Tamsin Vale is a strong independent woman who knows how to get shit done and do it right, most of the time, when others can’t or won’t. Recently though it’s like she’s been undercover in a cult trying to blend in so hard she begins to forget why she’s there and who she was before joining. I honestly think this “fair” attribute of hers has been taken too far and for WAY too long. Most of her problems would have been solved if she acted like a real monarch and not like she was an actual “president”, as she likes to refer to herself, in a democracy. I will hold out for the next book, but I can’t say much after that if it’s more of the same.

Same book again

I am not convinced trying to write a many books as possible about the same characters is as cool as I originally thought. At first I thought it would be getting an in depth look at how they lived and grew as life changed around them. But for these characters and their world does not change. They keep doing the same things over and over thinking they will get different results. Based on the way this book ended it still won't change in book 16 either in fact at the very end it moved backward at least 2 books time. I used to look forward to these books, but no more. I wonder how many more books she is going to drag this out into? I think 25 to do a good job of rounding things all out without rushing at the end. And after all the time and years I have dedicated to this series I hope she does not rush the ending. The best thing I can say about these books is she does get the books out in a timely manner.

Ok this is the first review I have ever written on good reads, and I find myself frustrated. I love this series and the world the author has created, Tamsin is a badass and I actually love how long and detailed the series is. HOWEVER, the situation with Neldor really chaps my ass. We spent several books seeing him get a good character arch and invest only for him to randomly become a bad guy again? Also, these books cannot be considered RH because that takes 3+ men with the FMC and she has only had two for several books now. I think Lucca and Julian both do not deserve to come back into the picture, Julian can toss himself off a cliff, but then bring in some others? Neldor, Daylor, Rafe, Luke? This could be SUCH a good series but it's weirdly stuck on the exact same narratives and even when it feels like there has been progress, we just rehash the exact same things in different settings with very little spice. I'm sad about it all because I the potential is so high.

I have loved reading this series! So sad it’s not finished yet because I totally can’t wait for Tamsin’s full happily ever after. Most of the time when a series is longer than 4 or 5 books I lose interest because I feel like it’s too much of the same stuff dragging the series out. That feeling didn’t hit me at all until about book 10 and then it was short lived. I love Tamsin and the journey we get to take with her throughout this. Her growth and friendships, and her clarity in viewing the world around her make this story amazing.
I felt the intro to book 18 was really confusing. I had to go back and double check that I hadn’t skipped a book. There’s a bit of minor editing that would really make the reading so much better. Missing words and improper (or no) use of commas were the biggest culprits, but it was still worth reading.
As much as I loved it this book isn’t for everyone. There’s plenty of language, sex, and some violence that would be disturbing to some.

changing directions

There is so much going on. I don’t know where to go or what to say. The first and foremost is this whole book is about selfishness. I mean we see her hurting herself over and over again for everyone else. I mean I understand this from her POV but there is nothing good here. I feel for Darby and his situation and he is stuck in the middle. Tamsin needs to have her mind on a projector so everyone could see and feel everything she has been through.

On another note her whining about everyone treating her badly is tiresome. We get it and now what are you going to do about it. We see her being smart but it doesn’t really show with her inner dialogue or with her people. I am just stuck on what she has sacrificed herself for and why does she complain afterwards.

Can't wait for the next one!

I love and hate this series. (Dont worry! Mostly love!) Love because it brings up real issues (just to the extream) about he mistreatment of minorities and of women and how it could be handled better. (Obviously not with Tasmins violence but with replacing the corrupt systems and showing how it could be better.) I hate it because it hurts my heart to read Tasmins struggles with her mate, the ones who should be teaching her, and those who refuse to take the blonders off and see how their entitlements are hurting themselves and others. I wish that Melody was still a part of Tasmins life because of how hard she fought for her before their "breakup". I would love for the next book to have more wins than losses not just for Tasmin but for all of the ones who are staring to see just how corrupt their systems are.

Both Julian, Luke and neldor and even Darby and Hudson displayed behaviour that doesn't follow logically from previous books somehow explained by referencing conversation and behaviour we never heard about before. I struggled with this (especially the apparently selfish behaviour of Neldor and hate towards Julian). It was so disheartening to read...

Tams is listening to advice from Luke and it's for the best: drawing the line in the sand and sticking to it. However, it seems the mates she was close with are reversing back to old behaviour (not using their words, being jealous, blaming Tams) and her connection with Luke is not welcomed at all.

Overall a good book, but my heart breaks for Tams all over again.

I’m giving this 4 stars because it was well written, powerful and emotional. But I’m completely exhausted. I’m frustrated and once again heart broken. Wtf is going on with the guys? Everyone except Darby have lost their minds. Wow. I need to process this one a bit I think. I’m really confused about Neldor. Was it book 14 where he showed he cared? Where he actually saw Tamsin for once? What happened? And Hudson?? It was all super connected mate type stuff most of the way through, then the last 10% of the book he’s ignoring her? I don’t get it. And don’t get me started on Julian. Bloody pathetic.

interesting

The people who read this book are at this moment invested in the story and life of Tamsin. We want to see how she will deal with all the shit that’s happening. I read this book in less than 3 hours. I didn’t see any personal growth, no solving of issues or questions. We did learn a little bit more about tamsin but this was really one of the worst books of the series. I don’t know if I will continue it after this one. *RELATIONSHIP SPOILERS*
Tamsin has issues with Hudson, she’s only steady with Darby. She hates craftsman but takes him back.. weeks have passed, a lot of shit happend but it just lacks spirit idk. This book wasn’t my cup of tea.

irritating fmc

Been loving this series since the get go and am fully invested in finding out where it’s going, but kinda get the sense that Erin maybe doesn’t know that yet either? But that’s cool, it’s a process etc and I am HERE for it all.
Love the drama and the love and the realism of the relationships and difficulties, however, Tamsin is irritating af.

She started off being nice and rational and fightin’ the good fight, but now she seems erratic and mean and self-absorbed and then accuses others of the same thing?

I don’t know, I’ve just lost all the love I had for her.
