Christie Gordon is the author of steamy, heartfelt gay romance novels that explore the emotional journey of men discovering themselves and finding love. It all started when she stumbled upon MM fanfiction by accident—and let's just say, it was love at first read. Inspired by the genre's mix of passion and complexity, Christie transitioned from reading about men in love to writing her own stories. After taking fiction writing classes at a local community college, she published her first MM romance novel in 2009 with a small press, and she’s never looked back.
When she’s not writing, Christie watches boys-love dramas, creates digital art, or is serenaded by her snoring one-eyed rescue pug. A graduate of both Electrical Engineering (BS) and Business Administration (MBA), she spends her "day job" navigating the high-tech world, but her heart belongs to the characters who live in her books. Christie currently resides in the Phoenix metro area, though she’s also lived in California’s Bay Area and Minnesota (which probably explains her deep love of pumpkin spiced latte coffees and hockey).
She’s also the proud mother of two young-adult sons who provide plenty of material for stories—usually in the form of chaotic shenanigans. But no matter what, Christie’s always up for a new adventure, whether it's on the page or in the real world.

(Thank you to the author & GRR for the chance to read & review in exchange for my honest review.)

I am bummed this book didn’t work for me. I love second chance romances and hurt/comfort trope is one of my favorites. So I was very excited about the premise of this book. But sadly, the pacing of the story felt off to me right from the start. Transitions between scenes were quite abrupt as well. In the span of a few pages we meet one of the mains, establish that he is afraid of his abusive ex, we meet the man he left behind years ago and ghosted, the two of them start dating literally that same evening...

Suffice to say I was totally disorientated and unable to connect with any of the characters or the situation. I imagined two friends (one of whom was closeted) meeting up after so long - especially after one of them ghosted the other - would be a delicious moment for some tension of the slow burn variety. There would be some work needed on both their parts to develop trust before they could even dream of repairing their friendship, let alone dating. The pacing made it hard for me to connect with the characters’ reactions to things. Also, there was a lot of telling vs. showing. I kept getting booted out of the story every time a character would tell me what they were thinking about or feeling or afraid of…rather than letting me know on my own by hearing them or watching them.

I am sad this didn’t work for me. But hopefully the next one will.

This a bit of an emotional second chance romance for Shane and Carter. Shane is back five years after just up and leaving his friend Carter. Shane still has unrequited feelings for Carter as he always thought Carter was straight. Carter is battling with his sexuality, but when Shane comes back, he cannot deny his feelings. These two pretty quickly fall into a relationship and they start supporting each other through family drama's and Shane's crazy ex who will not quit. There is quite a lot of angst going on outside of their new relationship. I did love catching up with Tanner and Max though! Overall, a sweet hurt comfort story with two really likable guys!

Loved this Second Chance romance. We are back in Mesa where Tanner & Max from the first book in the series have set themselves up together. Remember Carter, Tanner's ex-roomie and ex-b/f? He's a MC this time. Carter & Tanner still work together at Safeway. When Carter was growing up, the family next door had a son named Shane. Carter and Shane were buddies and soul-mates until Shane moved away to New Mexico when his parents divorced. Now Shane is back in AZ after graduating college with a new job in graphics at PetSmart. Shane had ghosted Carter after he left town because he had a secret crush on Carter and was afraid to tell him. So now that Shane is back in town, he's got a problem - how does he re-connect with Carter again?

Andrea, the waitress at the Monestary Bar & Grill, acts as go-between and sets-up the scenario for Carter & Shane to re-connect. The main plotline evolves around Carter & Shane's relationship that turns into something a lot more intense than when they were kids. Along the way we have ex-boyfriends causing trouble, Carter's fun younger brother, Carter's mother Kelly deciding to move out of an abusive relationship, both Shane's and Carter's fathers being way to homophobic, and all of their friend group from the first book (Dana from the Safeway bakery is Carter's roomie, Josh, etc).

I love it when authors revisit characters from past books and Christie does a great job here! I am really looking forward to the rest of the series now and hope this trend continues. As a reader you invest quite a lot of emotional energy in these guys - so it's nice to see them again and see how they have evolved.

Wow another great read from Christie. I’m absolutely loving the Mesa Boys and I’ve been so desperate for Carter’s story and let me tell you it did not disappoint.
Carter & Shane's story is a mixture of childhood best friends, reunited, first times, it’s a great love story. These two are perfect for each other. They just connect. I would say their two puzzle pieces that fit perfectly together. The friendship, the chemistry, it’s amazing.
There’s quite a bit of trauma in the book two. Carter would literally do anything for Shane and he does but there’s also a price to pay.
Intrigued….. you should be. There’s so much going on in this book, to keep you on the edge of your seat begging for more. I loved every second and couldn’t put it down.
There are parts that are slightly hard to read and your heart goes out to these guys but they are equally so fiercely loyal and I love it.
The steam level too….. 🍆🍆🍆🍆 off the charts. Your not going to want to miss it. Carters a bit of a talker!! 😉😏
Highly highly recommend. Can not wait for more Mesa boys. I just know Josh’s story is going to be epic!
And the cameos that Stan the hamster makes…. 🐹😅 love it.
I’m officially addicted to this series and can’t get enough.

I really enjoyed this story. I didn't read the first book in this series, but I didn't need to to enjoy this one. Great world building. There's a lot going on in this book. Shane and Carter were the best of friends and very close when they were young. Shane had always been attracted to Carter, but never came out to him because Carter's abusive father is homophobic. When Shane and his mother moved away, he stopped communicating with Carter and tried to move on but years later eventually moved back, working as a graphic designer and trying to avoid a verbally abusive cheating ex-boyfriend who is stalking him. Carter and Shane reunited in a bar and you can clearly feel that the spark between them is still there. I don't really like insta-love stories, but I really liked this because these two men have a lot of history and it felt like a reunion where all these old feelings rushed to the surface. They already knew each other, so it didn't feel rushed even if they didn't waste too much time. Throw in a stalker ex and an abusive father and I couldn't put this story down. 5 stars.

This is such a beautiful second chance romance! I loved it from the very beginning. Carter and Shane are literally the perfect couple. The were childhood best friends and had insane chemistry. There’s some baggage that has to be unpacked between them before they can get to their HEA but this book is sooo worth the read! It’s such a beautiful story. It was funny, sweet and way steamy! My heart seriously went out to these guys at some points during this story and they fought hard for their HEA. They deserved it so much! There is so much love between these 2 men and I enjoyed reading their story so much! I highly recommend this book! It is truly an amazing read!

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

While I love this story overall, I feel it had a sort of melancholy feel to it. Shane and Carter were childhood friends. Shane is gay while he believes Carter is not. Circumstances cause Shane to move away because he believes his feelings for Carter will never be returned. Later through a fun set of events these two are brought together and given a chance at a future. There are a few family things that are revealed and relationships are brought to light. As conditions over the years have brought these people to where they are life issues need addressed. Then there is Shane’s ex who refuses to let go. I do feel Shane’s trying to give Derek a chance was taken too far. The tone of the story just led me to know what would happen. My only criticism is I feel Carter’s family is left unresolved. I hope to find out about this in future stories.

Who says you can't go home again? Shane, fell in love with his bf Carter, the boy next door who had an abusive father. Shane's Dad was homophobic. He suppresed any inclinations of his potential sexuality. But when his parents divorced and he moved away from Arizona to Santa Fe with his Mom, he ghosted Carter. 5 yrs later, Shane returned and ran into Carter again while out with his bf, Riley. Both men had secret youthful crushes on each other. And they have abusive history issues. Can they get over that? Shane's ex, Derek cheated and Shane broke up with him. Then Derek started stalking him. Do they get a chance to start a relationship? Can Shane finally, formally come out? Does Shane handle Derek? Good story. Fantastic group of friends. Emotionally deep family concerns. Shane and Carter, compliment each other well. Nicely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Catching His Heart is a beautiful friends to lovers, second chance romance. Carter and Shane were best friends in high school. When Shane moved away, they lost track of one another. They are reunited when Shane moves back to town. Carter struggles with his sexuality, he has a homophobic father. They also have to deal with Shane’s stalker ex before they can get their HEA. I loved how they found their way back to each other!! Overall, a fantastic read. The story was really well written and engaging, the pacing flowed smoothly, highly recommend.

Tanner gave awful advice to Carter regarding Shane's ex. I get he was thinking with regards to his own experiences, but Carter wasn't worried about Shane going back to his ex, he was worried about Shane getting hurt so him saying "you have nothing to worry about because you're better than his ex" didn't make sense.

I don't think I liked having Shane and Carter both dealing with abusive relationships. I like when there's actual angst and conflict in a story, but too much of it over l overpowers the romance (which is what happened here for me). There wasn't enough peace for me to really enjoy Shane and Carter reconnecting because the focus was on Shane's ex stalking him and Carter's dad abusing his mom. Why couldn't we have gotten more of the MCs taking about what caused Shane to ghost Carter or have Shane explain his early crush and have Carter reveal that he delirium the same? I feel like the story would've been adequately angsty if only one>/i> of the two had an active abusive conflict to resolve. Like instead of having to deal with Carter's dad, the story could've had him focus on his internalized homophobia (which basically disappeared after like one conversation with his roommate) and that would've been a nice way to keep the conflict without over indexing on abusive relationships (which are inherently super serious and tend to take up all the air in a room)

I really didn't like how timid Shane was with regards to his abusive ex. I get that it was supposed to be juxtaposed against Carter's parents' situation, but him constantly saying that he didn't want to make Derek's life hard by getting the law involved was so dumb considering Derek had literally begun threatening him and the people around him and he felt unsafe enough to freaking leave his apartment. Stories of victims of abuse tend to walk a fine line between sympathy and annoyance (as it does irl) but given how well adjusted Shane had been in his life otherwise, he just landed on the incredibly annoying side of that line with regards to his apologetic he was of Derek's bullshit.

Also what the fuck was the plan? Getting Carter's mom and brother to stay at Shane's apartment where his ex boyfriend had been actively making unsafe??? I get they thought Derek had stopped at that point but it hadn't even been a week since and they knew that he'd been stopping by w/o texting. How was that safe for a recently abused woman?

I didn't buy that Carter somehow couldn't find himself hating his abusive father who'd traumatized him and his family. Idk why he felt the need to call him to come out when all signs should've pointed to him cutting off contact.

There was way way wayy too much "sniggering" going on in the book. The author needed to use different verbs or just not even have the characters do it because it was too noticeable.

Where the hell did Shane's issue with his dad come from? We spend nearly the entire book with him dealing with his abusive ex then suddenly with only 15% of the story left, he suddenly had unresolved daddy issues? Why did we need that in this?

I basically skimmed the last 20% because it just felt like a long resolution.

The romance never felt like it was the focus. The author choosing to put the spotlight on Shane's ex, Carter's mom, then weirdly Shane's dad made it so that Shane and Carter never felt like they were ever truly the main story. I don't know why we couldn't have focused on having them reconcile and get to know each other again considering how they left things off the first time (and that would've been a good premise for a second chance romance).

TL;DR: Not enough focus on the romance in a romance novel. 1.5 stars rounded up.

'Catching His Heart', (Mesa Boys, Book #2)
by Christie Gordon

Same problems as Book 1: the manner in which this author writes -- a stilted and juvenile writing style. At times it seemed as if I was reading from a teen/YA's diary. (maybe that was her intent? if so, it needs work.)

(and more of similar problems as Book #1):

In addition to the annoying overuse of the same words and phrases (ad nauseum):
1. sniggered
2. snickered
3. smirked
4. "crashing their lips together and tangling their tongues" (these are supposed to be teens/young adults kissing, not porn actors; it seems that's about all this writer can envision for two guys kissing, sadly.)
5. "thinned their lips" (huh? what exactly is the author trying to convey, as it seems to vary with each circumstance?)
6. "he lifted a corner of his mouth" (is this supposed to be smiling? nope! this comes across as a sneer or a smirk...well, maybe they never smile, just lust & leer & smirk...(idk?)...but doesn't fit each situation.
7. there seem to be only 'coy grins' and 'sly grins'

...there are also inconsistencies in the storyline, such as:
In one instance, Carter, who has just had a date earlier in the evening with his childhood best friend, Shane, now his new love interest. Carter goes into his bedroom and LOCKS his door, needing some alone time with his...um, 'boy parts' (not sure what's acceptable to print here, lol). Anyway, afterwards he goes to sleep, only to be caught up in a nightmare a bit later, evoking his homophobic father's violent condemnation! He ends up suddenly awakened by his roommate, who is now sitting on his bed next to him, concerned because he's been yelling in his sleep. How did the roommate get into his bedroom...with the door locked? Hmm...

That said, I did like the premise, I just wish the author was more skillful at writing about these characters because it seems like there's a lot of lost potential here.

Not gonna bother reading any more in this series, as the writing was too repetitive and I got bored with it all.

Caught his heart alright!

I love a good friends to lovers. Now we met Carter in the previous book and I'll be honest he got under my skin a bit wanting Tanner back when he'd clearly already moved on but he turns out to be a great friend and turns out his journey was only beginning. I loved reading his book and getting into his head more. Carter is from a volatile home with an abusive dad with a hate for anyone queer and "not a man." He's been dealing with his dad his whole life, and while he was going through that, he had a next-door neighbor/protector in Shane while growing up. They protected each other as Shane also got bullied for being "soft." Shane had developed a big crush on Carter and when his parents divorced in high school and he moved away he decided to cut off contact with Carter because it hurt too much to be in love with a straight guy who is also your best friend. But years later, when Shane runs into Carter at a bar after moving back home he finds out Carter may not be as straight as they both thought. When they meet again, it's like those feelings, both repressed by Carter and pushed away by Shane, comes rushing back, and the attraction is instant. But while they fall in love, they have to deal with a stalking ex who won't leave Shane alone and trying to get Carter's brother and mom away from his abusive dad. I love how through everything Carter and Shane remain strong and there for each other through it all and worked on their demons and issues together. Really enjoyed this one and can't wait for the next

History plays such an interesting role in Carter and Shane's story. First, there is the history between Carter and Shane. They grew up next door to one another and were besties in high school but lost touch when Shane moved and ghosted Carter because he was attracted to Carter and didn't think he was gay. When they meet again after Shane has graduated college and moved to the area Carter has realized he is not straight but his history with an abusive homophobic father has left him dealing with feelings of shame because he is attracted to men. What they know is that they want to give them a try. But the other history that is repeating itself is that Shane is dealing with a stalking, abusive ex who is dangerous to him and just as Carter's mother was continuing to deal with his abusive, homophobic father. These two have so many challenges to work through but now that they are back together they realize that they can make their way through all of the challenges that face them and Carter's mom and brother because they have each other's hearts and they are committed to one another. Their feelings for one another are still there and they are enough to help them stick together and move forward. The strength of their connection to one another made their love even more precious. And good friends helped them as well.

I was intrigued by the character of Carter in the first book so glad to see this one focus on his struggle. As such this one is focused on him and his childhood friend Shane who has always loved Carter. Life takes them to different places but now they are back in the same town. A great second chance love story but before they can find any type of happily ever after they must deal with many others (i.e Shane's ex, Carter's abusive dad). It contains lots of ups and downs but does an excellent job at portraying abuse and the impact of abuse on how we see ourselves. You soon understand why Carter struggles with his sexuality, and learn that Shane is the perfect person to help him. I know the blub says no cliffhangers, i do have to share while that is true I was left with many question related to other issues raised in the book that hopefully will be address in book three. Be forewarned that this book contains many triggers. i could not read in one sitting, it is not a fun fluffy book, but one of depth and an emotional roller coaster. I did receive an ARC and leave this honest review.

I was eager for book 2 after the 1st book in the series. From the 1st book we have already been introduced to Carter and know that he struggles with his sexuality. Shane was Carter's childhood best friend who has moved back to the area and find one another at a local bar.

I liked Shane and Carter but their relationship felt very rushed. Carter didn't ask about why he hadn't heard from Shane in 5 years and they went from seeing one another to boyfriends all in 1 night. I enjoyed the background details on why Carter had so much internalized homophobia from his father but that story line felt unfinished at the end of the book. I also felt like Shane's stalker ex added to the storyline but again there wasn't enough resolution for me on that storyline.

Overall I really liked this book but I felt that he overreached in what all it could cover and was a bit too insta-love even for me.

Carter and Shane find their way back to each other and this time all the cards are on the table. Carter knows he's not exactly straight and Shane finds confidence to let Carter know how he feels. They are both dealing with a lot of personal problems but right from the beginning they lean on each other as they begin dating. Their past friendship being the basis for a growing relationship. The stories of abuse were well done. It seemed like Shane giving Derek the benefit of the doubt and not wanting to make a bigger deal of what was happening aligned with Kelly not leaving Carter's father sooner and biding her time hoping he would just stop. I'm enjoying the Mesa Boys and am hoping to see Andrea make some more matches!

⭐️ 3.5 ⭐️

A friends to lovers and chance story featuring Carter, whom was introduced in the first book. Admittedly, I felt for both boys but sided more with Carter because the nature of ghosting to me is just cruel, especially if you loved the person you ghosted—even if it was for legitimate reasons.

However, I am particular with how flashbacks and POV transitions are done within a story. Unfortunately, for the most part, I struggled with the pacing in the story. It was abrupt at times that I felt could have been slowly drawn out by including more significant and relevant details.

I do enjoy the author’s writing though and like the series as a whole.

This is a second chance m/m romance. Shane and Carter were best friends up until Shane moved away. It’s been years since they have talked but when Shane finds out his unrequited live might actually not be so unrequited he takes the chance and asks out his old best friend. And there is no going back. Carter is elated his best friends back and even better is that his messed up feelings with his sexuality seem to disappear as soon as Shane reappears in his life. But their story isn’t all rainbows and unicorns. Shane’s past is quite his past and his ex won’t leave them alone. And Carter’s family is falling apart. They need each other to get through this so that they can have their happy ending. This book was cute and has a bit of angst. Over all it was a great read

This is the second book in the Mesa Boys series. We meet Carter and Shane in this story. If you read the first book Catching his fall you know Carter has issues with his sexuality. Shane and Carter were childhood friends who haven't seen each other in a long time. This story is a second chance romances and hurt/comfort is what drives this book. There is a lot going on in this story so it should keep you interested. The stories of abuse were well done. Can Carter and Shane work through all the problems they have, you will have to read the book to find out. I would definitely recommend this book.

Thanks to Gay Romance Reviews for the advanced copy!

This is book two in the Mesa Boys series, but you don’t need to read the first to understand what’s going on in this one. That was a relief, because I didn’t realize it wasn’t a standalone.

Shane is such a great character, and I was really rooting for him and Carter to get back together. Poor Carter was just going THROUGH IT for most of this book, so I’m glad he and Shane had the chance to reunite. Their chemistry was just so intense, and I couldn’t put the book down during some scenes. Highly recommend for those who are fans of second chance romances and happily ever afters!!

Catching His Heart is a friends to lovers, second chance romance.
After years apart with no contact Shane and Carter reunite. Both have been dealing with difficulties and they immediately reestablish their friendship. Things are a little different this time around and both feel the draw and attraction.
These two pretty quickly fall into a relationship and they start supporting each other through family drama's and Shane's crazy ex who will not quit.
There is a lot going on here and they have to learn to lean on and depend on each other.
I loved seeing them get their HEA.

Shane realizes how badly he messed up when he disappeared from Carter's life with no word or explanation and his attempts to repair the breach and reestablish their friendship and turn it into something more are nicely detailed in this story. Shane is willing to take things at Carter's pace, but it gets complicated when Shane's ex- turns nasty and Carter's father becomes a threat to his mother and to him. These events add just the right amount of suspense and open up the chance for some great protective behaviors. A really enjoyable entry in the series.

Shane and Carter ❤️
3 stars 🌟

Emotional second chance.....I like the premise of this book and I'm always a sucker for these tropes however...this one was a bit all over the place, the flow was so off in parts of the book and left me hoping the pacing would change..sadly it did not. I would have to say that I'm 50/ 50 on this book. With that being said, I would certainly read another book from this author, the first in this series was super cute.

This was an ok read, parts of the book I loved, the whole reconnecting was super lush, the drama from the ex, the amusing moments with the friends, but parts of the book just seemed to ramble on, every day explained in detail, it just seemed far longer than necessary at times. I appreciate it was full of info, establishing the back story for the parents and ex but some of it just seemed unnecessary to me and add in the complete over-use of the word ‘seed’ and I feel this is a 3 or at max a 3.5 star book. Sorry but I won’t be hurrying to read the others in this series.

This is the second book in the series, we got to know Carter in the first book and glad we got his story. Carter and Shane grew up best friends living next door to each other. Shane moved away for college and they drifted away. Carter had a hard time growing up, but Shane was always there for him. They meet again and a relationship develops..it was sweet even with the added family drama and past relationships. I love how we still see Tanner and Max along with new friends hanging out.

This is the story of Shane and Carter. Please read the trigger warnings before you start. I loved this book. It is the 2nd book in the series. It is written wonderfully with beautiful characters who deserves a second chance at love. This is not a light read, but filled with angst and pain. Love the chemistry. For me personally there was a lot of self discovery with this story. Definitely recommended.

It’s about time the good guys win

This book is a roller coaster of emotions. Shane’s situation with his ex is so scary especially when it’s so well written and Carter’s family secrets and home life are so common these days it’s sad. The book is well written and done delicately enough that while I urge you to use common sense and read the info about the book, it didn’t trigger me.

A sweet second chance love story with a happily ever after, finally. These two have a bit of an exciting, not necessarily in a good way all the time, romance. Interesting characters, the good ones are great, the bad are just evil. Following the drama comes a bout of sunshine which brings on the HeA as the book closes. Keeps you reading. I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.
