No One Needs to Know

Rate this book
Do I have a story for you!

So, I’m at my business partner’s birthday party, right?
Everything's great.
Beautiful day, good food, cold beer.
At some point during the evening, I find a piece of paper on the floor and pick it up to throw it away but notice it’s an ultrasound picture. So, of course, I go to congratulate my partner and his wife on their pregnancy which somehow causes a pandemonium between the couple and their guests.
Lo and behold, they’re not pregnant.
The baby isn’t theirs…it’s mine.

Sounds fun right?

Lemme tell you from experience...though I’ve done nothing but think about the amazing one-night-stand I had two months ago, knocking up the best gal pal of my partner’s wife, 11/10 would not recommend.

*****Author's note:
No One Needs to Know is a spin-off romcom of the Bardstown Series (Specifically from I Like Me Better but characters from all the Bardstown books will make appearances) and will be the bridge to a NEW sports romance series coming soon!

4.5✨

This was actually really good. Really well written. The smut was really good too. No idea how I ended up reading a book that only has like 50 reviews but here we are.

I docked the half star and didn’t round to 5 for 3 reasons.

1. The female mc at times was annoyingly stubborn. Slightly pickme. Idk her personality just didn’t flow right all the time?

2. I hate the baby’s name lol I know it’s a thing to name baby’s after dead people you love, I named my kids after my great grandpa. He lived to be 100…. They named their baby after 2 children… who died in childhood.. like that is just bad juju, why on earth.

3. I don’t like how things were left with the female mcs parents. It just felt like it was left unresolved and there should have been a real conclusion on that story.

It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t the best. But then again I’m not a big fan of the unexpected pregnancy trope. The beginning was fantastic but some of the middle didn’t work for me. The ending was cute.

Eh not really impressed - this review will have some spoilers

I’m trying not to just crap on this book but so many things annoyed me.
First thing - the second spicy scene. Just 🤮 it’s like this author watched every terrible p*rn out there and recreated it. In what world was that hot? I don’t like kink shaming when something isn’t my thing but warn readers that there’s going to be talking of fisting.
Also his inner dialogue “Just because she was a good lay a few months ago doesn’t mean she’s wife material. Not that I’m looking for that either. She’s a fling at best” - there was a little more to that but the gist of it was that he didn’t want a relationship. Which cool, all you authors want to write these playboys who don’t settle down until this one special woman (🙄) and can’t come up with anything remotely original but this was not the way to express his thoughts on it. Just makes him sound like a donkey.

There were several times throughout the book where the grammar was off or the wrong word or name was used. It could have been worse but it was bothersome enough to be noticeable. There was a part where the MFC is talking to her friend and says “how are we supposed to be honest with each other when he’s keeping this secret…” I use quotation fingers there “from me” instead of just using single quotation around the word ‘secret’.

There were other things that annoyed me and I had to take several breaks reading this book that should have taken a few hours at most.
The final thing that bothered me was how dramatic the birth was written. And that’s not specific to this book bc so many pregnancy books write it this way and I hate it in every single one. While I get that SOMETIMES birth does happen this fast the truth is the majority of births do NOT. I hate reading or watching births like this constantly. This could have been written better and still had the same outcome.

Only reason this was given 3 instead of 2 stars is bc I liked Milo at the end.

Istg this book made me do double take way too many times.
One minute I’m team Elias, then the next I’m team Whitney.
Because let’s be for real, they both had problems but instead of communicating and figuring things out together, they decided to play dumb and put words into each other’s mouth. You have no ideas how many times I just wanted to smack them both for being so stupid and clueless. But thank god they had their friends talking to them and finally came to their senses at the end. Seriously Hadley and Beckham’s backs must be hurt from carrying the book and their friends’ relationship lmao.

The pace at some point, I’d say, was a bit weird.
There were lots of time jumps throughout the book, I’m guessing because the author wanted to cover the whole process of Whitney’s pregnancy, since we did find out the news pretty early into her pregnancy, so of course, she would pick the highlight events to put into the book. As a result, the relationship between Elias and Whitney seemed a bit lacking, and there were some left out moments that I think would make the storyline and their relationship a lot more sense if they were mentioned on page.

Also, I would love it more if there was extra epilogue(s) into their further future. Because while I love the epilogue we have right now, which was chapter 26 in the book btw, it was a little short, definitely not enough for me.

Overall, this was a fun and nice read. Quite a shame tho because I didn’t like it as much as I did with Beyond the Game. Still, I had a great time and it’s good to see my boy Dex and other members of Chicago Red Tails here.

Got the ick.

28% in: "...what are you going to do when the baby comes? ... Because in case you haven’t noticed or just refuse to admit it, this little mousehole of a house isn’t going to cut it, Whitney...I’ve seen your tax return. You can’t possibly afford anything much better than this, and if you try, you’ll struggle financially for years being on your own. I can help you."
She just found out she's pregnant, and he's questioning why she hasn't already moved out of her studio appartment that same day. Unfortunately, his way of talking to her doesn't get better than this.

38% in: "Just because she was a good lay a few months ago, doesn't mean she's wife material." (This from the guy who doesn't ever want a relationship or kids, but suddenly has criteria for wife material.)

64% in: still letting his buddies call her "Tits Magee" multiple times. Talking with his buddy about her kink in the bedroom and how good of a lay she is. Also making a joke about one-upping another friend in the bedroom because of it.

70% in: "I never saw Whitney as the mothering type, but now..." (He'd hardly known her as a friend of a friend before their one night stand, how would he know whether or not she was motherly?)

3rd act breakup: spews his frustration that he got her pregnant and now has to step up and make it right.

Grovel: non-existent. Her friends talk her into forgiving him and he tells her his sob story (istg does every MMC have the same one?) and she forgives him because he finally communicated with her once.

This book wow... the absolute perfect addition to the bardstown series.
Be ready for an emotional rollercoaster, because... hell this is one. Tissues at the ready.
I can't imagine this series without whit and elias book. Having previously characters pop up always feels like meeting with an old friend for a catchup 🥰
No one needs to know begins with Unconventional beginnings, smoking fillers, so much pain... all rounded off is the most perfect of ways. Honestly you'll be mended by the final page. 1

Best unexpected baby conception ever 😂

I’m going to start by saying Whitney sounds like the bff I need in my life! She’s a riot and a good time. This story is a spin off of the Bardstown Series, but you do NOT have to have read that series first. The only benefit is knowing the side characters and their stories, so don’t feel like you can’t jump into this one. I highly recommend it, because it’s a great story.

Whitney and Elias both happen to be in New Orleans separately during Mardi Gras and have the world’s best hook up. It’s probably on YouTube, it was so good 😂 After mistakenly trusting the glow in the dark condoms tossed out during the parade, they find themselves unexpectedly expecting. While they have mutual bff’s, they are still mostly strangers. They have a lot of speed bumps in learning to navigate their new life plans, particularly since neither one wanted anything serious.

I did like these two together, and their relationship and struggles felt believable. There’s a lot of laughs (because this author is hilarious!), a couple times you want to shake someone, and of course some 🔥. Now about that video…..

O cere in casatorie cu ajutorul jucatorilor din echipa de hockey Chicago Red Tails, pe tricoul lor e scris cate o litera din WILL YOU MARRY ME, si nu apuca sa ii raspunda pt ca atunci intra in travaliu si nasta chiar acolo.

I really don’t want to leave Bardstown. Not at all. Whitney and Elias have known each other for a little while when they run into each other in the middle of Mardi Gras. Elias is there for his brother’s wedding and surrounded by hockey players. I adore the fact that Elias has hockey player brother and best friend. Whitney is there for a family reunion. When they run into each other they throw caution to the wind and decided why not?

Unfortunately for Whitney and Elias what happens at Mardi Gras doesn’t stay in New Orleans like they thought it would. The way everyone found out about the pregnancy, yeah even Elias, was great. It was perfect. My heart broke in places for everything that Elias had been through, and also for Whitney because of her family. Overall it was a great end to our time in Bardstown, even if I am not ready. However, I might be able to live with it if we get what I think we might. I have my fingers crossed for a Chicago Red Tails spinoff! I am a sucker for hockey players. What can I say?

Whitney wants to live her life how she wants. She wants to be single and taste a little bit of everything. At Mardi Gras, she sees a hot guy in a black t-shirt and her cousins dare her to go over there. It so happens that the man in question is someone she knows from home, Elias Nelson. Agreeing to keep what happens in Mardi Gras at Mardi Gras, they sleep together. Little do they know she's bringing home something that can't stay there.

Whitney is a free spirit. She wants to spread her wings and fly. Elias is hurting and hasn't coped with it at all. When they first saw each other at Mardi Gras was not what I expected. After the bar was interesting. Whitney wants to be independent even though Elias wants to help. The morning after they get to know each other was heartbreaking. The hockey team is hysterical. There were definitely times where I wish things were explained in a little more detail but it's not bad at all.

This is the first book of this series I've read and it was so good I now want to go read the others. A chance encounter between Whitney and Elias in New Orleans gives them a night to remember. In more ways than one way. They both agree to say nothing to their best friends who happen to be married to each other. A few months later at a doctor's appointment Whitney gets one heck of a surprise. She doesn't know how to take the news when things happen and Elias finds out not the way she would have liked. Elias swore he was going to be single for the rest of his life because he didn't think he deserved more. Something happened in his past to make him feel this way. He doesn't handle the news well at first but eventually gets a little better. His and Whitney's relationship didn't start off the right way but it was the right way for them. If you are looking for a good romantic comedy with some steamy parts you can't go wrong with this book. It will hold your attention all the way through it.

Surprise baby
Related to Bardstown Series and Chicago Red Tails Hockey series

Whitney is Hadley's best friend (Book 1 of Bardstown Series). She's loud and fun, pierced and tatted, but her parents are not. She's in NOLA for a family gathering during Mardi Gras. Elias is Beckham's best friend who left Chicago to follow him to Kentucky. He's in NOLA for his brother's wedding. They have one amazing night that 11 weeks later gives them a shock. Now, they have to navigate how to handle being parents together while getting to know each other. And, Elias has some serious trauma that he needs to confess. But can he do it without hurting Whitney?

This book is a wild ride. It's a good story, and if you read the Chicago Red Tails series already, you know what's going on with Elias. Whitney's family...that's just sad. But what happens when they launch into her...Holy cow.

Whitney is looking forward to spending some time with her family in New Orleans. And joining in the Mardi Gras fun…

She is on a mission… she wants a night full of amazing sex, it’s been a wile…

To her surprise she meets Elias in New Orleans. The best friend of her best friends husband. They did flirt a little back home in Bardstown, but didn’t really act on it (could get weird you know?).

But, what they say about Vegas? Couldn’t that also count for New Orleans? The hook up is spicy, all they both could ever want (and we as readers too?).

But then there is a surprise neither of them expected… or actually wanted. It will change their lives completely.

Loved this story! Spicy scenes, love, family & feels (yes Susan, you made me cry AGAIN). Absolutely recommend!

No One Needs To Know is a spin off of Susan Renee’s “Bardstown series” (that you so should definitely check out!).

Susan has done it again!!!! When get new characters with the old characters. Whitney and Elias story is so cute. I did cry a lot!!!!! ( Happy tear and sad tear) I love that this is a insta live but with a surprise. This story gave us the updates about the Fox men and there special ladies as well. Elias is the sexy accountant in more ways then one and Whitney is the fun smart strong hair dresser! This story definitely had its up and downs but not to much we’re you want to put it down. If I didn’t have to work and sleep I would have been done this story in a day. I wonder if we will get another story for Milo!!!! Or Hawken maybe even Dex!!!!

Characters: 10/10
Plot: 10/10
Spicy: 9.5/10
Trope: Definitely has one
Triggers: Not really!

This is my first ever Susan Renee book and I doubt it will be my last. I absolutely devoured this book. Just couldn't put it down. I was like 'GIVE ME ROMANCE!!!' and Susan delivered.
Who knew going on a Mardi Gras trip would lead up to this? Not Whitney and Elias.

This book is a spin-off from the Bradstown series. But can be read without reading the other books first. I hadn't read them yet and still could enjoy this book pretty easily. (I will be reading the others now though!)

It has laughter, great chemistry, all the 🌶️ you need and a lot of feels.

Sit your ass down and read this amazing book. It has a grip on me like you couldn't imagine. It will not dissapoint!

Delightful book and a nice palate cleanser if you’ve read too much if something! The story has an unexpected pregnancy trope which I knew going in and it is NOT one I enjoy BUT I adore the author and her writing! Also this is a spin-off of the Bardstown series and I LOVED those! So I was only too happy to read and review! While it did not change my mind on the trope, I didn’t have too much of a problem with it!

I always love hearing about Mardi Gras because I lived in Louisiana for 4 years during college…we all know what happens there :).

Again a sweet small town romance and it has hockey in it, which is my favorite sport! Loved the ending! Check it out, it comes out soon!!!!

Found this amazing author on tiktok, she had me at surprise pregnancy. Elias and Whitney harmlessly flirt it up around town but the spice gets turned ALL the way up when they pretend to be acquaintances on vacation. This chance run in ends up with Whitney up against a window over Bourbom street per her wishes and all Elias aims to do is make her wishes come true. The classic “we will be coparents and that’s it” begins a roller coaster of cravings being satiated, heartache, and drama. They finally arrive at their HEA and be prepared to grab a tissue box!!!

If you LOVE surprise pregnancy this one is for you!

Happy Reading!❤️

Eh

I liked the premise of the book but there was something about the writing of the characters that didn’t seem authentic or natural or genuine. I’m not sure what it was but I kept getting pulled out of the story with major 🙄 vibes.

Elias and Whitney are best friends with a couple. So they know of each other. Have flirted with other but never went any further because of their best friends. They end up being in New Orleans during the same time frame and agree to a one night stand. Whatever happens in NO, stays in NO. However Whitney ends up pregnant, finding out two months later.

They end up deciding to coparent and fall in love.

Pleasantly surprising!!

I stumbled across this little gem by accident and was HOOKED ... The first few pages had me giggling and reminded me of my chats with friends!

This is a first for me from this author and have every intention of reading the whole Bardstown series along with any other side characters books.

This books has heat, love, family and a strong female character; Whitney. Whitney is enjoying a weekend away with family and meets Elias who she knows, things get frisky... And well a baby is on it's way. How do these two people who never wanted babies, relationships etc work together to figure out their future...

You'll have to read and find out!

I won't say that I think this book is plagiarized, but I will say that I read it right after reading a different surprise baby book and...it was the same story with different characters. Like down to the girl getting injured while telling the parents about the pregnancy, the following sex being interrupted by the guy's mom, feeling rhw baby move for the first time in that moment, the guy saying he can never love because he holds himself for a death that wasn't his fault, naming the baby after the deceased kid. If I were a professor and this was a report, I'd have serious concerns.

But that aside, I really enjoyed this book.

Whitney goes on a family reunion trip and explores Mardi Gras with her cousins.
Elias's brother is a hockey star, and he and all the hockey guys are at Mardi Gras.
Whitney and Elias are business associates, so theyre off limits to each other for a good time- or are they?
Both of their best friends are married to each other, so once they return from Mardi Gras they see each other.
A turn of events for both of these self proclaimed "single and not looking for anything" characters, and their lives are forever changed.

A weekend getaway to a surprising one night stand that turns into a surprise at home. The chemistry between Whit and Elias is amazing, off the charts. But they want to respect their best friends and did not get involved, until that weekend getaway. After getting to know each other, help with each other’s struggles and a lot of laughed, Whit and Elias compromise and realize their feelings. Laugh, cry, be angry, swoon, this book has it all. Read this book, and any other book by Susan Renee, she will make you want more. (4 stars only because I want more of these characters!)

What happens at Mardi Gras stays at Mardi Gras.. or maybe not. Whitney just realized that it will be with her for a long time. Elias is up for a surprise of his life but is he ready for it?

This is a spin-off from Bardstown series by Susan and I love this series and I was looking forward to learn more about Whitney so this one is really a treat and it doesn't disappoint. This book is filled with complicated romance and laugh moments it has an unexpected pregnancy and it is so good.
I did cry cause it has secrets that is heartbreaking but.. it is very good.

This story 🥰
I read it in one setting. It has all the things I look for in a romance book. No secret pregnancy if that’s something you’re against.

Elias and Whitney are fire once they meeet up in New Orleans. But what happens at Mardi Gras doesn’t alway stay at Mardi Gras.
Whitney doesn’t think she’s enough in a lot of ways due to her relationship with her mother. Elias has a traumatic event that happens as a teenager that makes him feel unworthy of love and happiness. They come together in understanding once they get past their insecurities.

What happens on Bourbon St….

This was such a cute, sweet little read.
Whitney & Elias’ have been attracted to one another since their best friends introduced them. (Their best friends are married to one another.) The pair decide to stay away from each other to not cause conflict in their friend group, that is until they end up on Bourbon St together for Mardi Gras.
The pair faces some obstacles like most couples do but they come out stronger together.

This story involves a pregnancy trope and does end with a HEA.

a fun read

Ups, downs, laughter and sadness. This book had it all. A steamy one night stand that turns into a surprise pregnancy.

The author was able to bring these characters to life. I loved how Elias was so protective and lost his cool sometimes. Whitney stood her ground but was willing to compromise as well.

The small town setting and family like friends really made me want to read the other books that came before this one. And of course I need to read about those hockey boys.

the advertisement for the book was better

The advertisement that got me to download the book was more exciting than the actual book. It starts off ok. Then abruptly jumps forward 2 months, they don’t even give you all the details of that one very important night of conception. And this book, has hands down the worst ending/birthing retelling I’ve ever seen. Its just so beyond unrealistic and fake. Like Hollywood TV is more realistic than the birth (which is the ending, so that’s a super sour note to end on)

Actually 2 stars, but I'm giving the extra star because the author made me curious enough about Elias's past trauma to finish the book. I thought I had it figured out, but didn't. I started to put the book down several times just during the first 2 or 3 chapters. The talk between the girlfriends and then the main characters was just a bit too nasty for me. And her mother. Good grief, what a monster she is. I did skip a few chapters, so there may have been a reconciliation, but if it was me there would have been years worth of apologies needed.

Ad better than book…

The ad was better than the book. The pregnancy dating wasn’t correct. Both MCs had really crass language that wasn’t ideal for a romance novel (the F word didn’t bother me, but just the “just another pu$$y” or “just another c-ck” type language was too much). I skimmed some of it than just skimmed to the last 2 chapters. I didn’t think the birth scene was realistic (and I have 2 kids) and don’t buy that the hockey time hasn’t lost a game all year (it last happened in 1960…).
