Darkest Retribution is the third and final book in the Dark Luxuries series, and follows Jade and Dominic. The timeline picks up right where it leaves off in Twisted Redemption.
From the very first few pages in Jade's pov, I was hooked. In the previous books, there wasn’t much to go off of for Jade’s character besides a few brief mentions, so the intrigue and mystery was definitely there. To learn how badass she is, and who she’s related to?! 100% not your typical girl next door with a sweet niece to take care of - which, by the way, Rosie was so adorable and had some of the best manners!
I loved how Jade and Dominic were both so similar, as if they were both running in parallel lines that were drawn to each other.
From the similar world with overlapping enemies, to both not being able to afford to grow attachments to anyone, and both dealing with difficult parental upbringings and loss, while wanting to be the best adult figure in a child’s life so that they don’t have to experience the same thing they did. Let’s just say I was definitely rooting for them.
Dom!! He’s my favourite of the men from this series. Relatable, grumpy, doesn’t like the heat, and I can easily see him being such an amazing dad or parental figure. Everything he did - from teaching Rosie how to ride a bike, jumping in piles of leaves, making pancakes, doing dishes, checking labels on clothing while doing laundry?! Say no more.
Also, the bondage? In awe that it was written so soothingly and not aggressive or overly rough.
Overall, I thought this was paced really well, and I’m SO excited to know that Felix and Willow will be getting their own book - THEIR BICKERING, it’s fantastic - like an old married couple.
The only reason this was a 4.5 and not a 5 was because of chapter 13 and Simon. I didn’t think they’d go to that extreme, but they really went there!!
TW include dark themes like murder and kidnapping, verbal abuse, a threat to a child’s life.
