Alex, a Type A marketer with a touch of OCD, spirals downward as her not-so-perfect world crumbles. While deciding whether to continue in a job she’s beginning to despise, she overhears two terrifying words: “Officers down” and sets out on a mission to see if her cop boyfriend was wounded—or worse. After a terrifying bank incident, she’s driven to the brink. What’s worse, she knows the man who truly loved her got away, but Alex isn’t the pity-party type at forty—especially at forty.
Two wealthy Van Buren socialites attempt life in the country after a meteoric fall from grace. Far from the razzle dazzle of city life and designer clothing, will the mother-daughter duo embrace small-town living or return to jet setting? Are wine in the woods, skinny dipping, and county fairs enough to entice the New Yorkers to stay? And pie? What’s this about pie?
Suzy adjusts to life with twins while attempting to maintain her floundering wedding planning business. When someone from her past knocks on the door, Suzy’s husband goes to Hollywood in a frantic search for his teen daughter. She soon learns sleep deprivation and frown lines are the least of her worries.
High school counselor Hope loves her new role as wife and stepmom and doesn’t even care that the pounds she lost pre-wedding have returned. It appears her hopeless life is finally hopeful, especially after an inspiring surprise at Hilltop High.
Personal crises aside, the four best friends are horrified when Coconuts, their favorite island-themed oasis, morphs into a sports bar and goes on the market to the highest bidder. Will they be able to save their iconic Happy Hour refuge—and keeper of their innermost secrets—or will the new, sexy owner prevail?

“Last Call at Coconuts” deserves two five-star reviews, one for being an excellent romance novel and another for being a brilliant conclusion to the six-book Coconuts series. “Last Call” is a spirited, fast-moving, wholly entertaining story filled with adventure after adventure for four disparate best friends, some good, some bad, all compelling, all genuine, all but one surprising. Here are unlimited lessons in life, in love, in patience, in courage, in generosity, and in the value of drinking buddies.
As the conclusion to the series, “Last Call” is best described as completely satisfying. I had forgotten how involved with these characters I was after the first five books, these four women and their families, friends, coworkers, and adversaries who refuse to mind their own business. I started reading and couldn’t stop, “one more chapter, one more chapter,” not wanting to wait for what comes next. Nearing the end, though, I kept slowing myself down, getting water, or eating a cookie, or just sitting in wonder. I postponed “The End” as long as I could. Just between us, I can’t remember the last time I cried so many happy tears throughout a book. It’s personal, like sitting at the next table, watching and listening to people you know and want to see do well.
Kudos to Carter for her masterful storytelling throughout the series, and frankly just for keeping everything straight over what hast to be close to half a million words. Carter excels at realistic dialogue, and every character maintains his or her idiosyncrasies throughout. The series ended with continued insights to the author’s personality and distinctive taste in music. Satisfying.
Last Call at Coconuts (Coconut Series Book 6) by Beth Carter is the 6th and last book in a wonderful series about four best friends, their friendship, life, and love. The book drew me in and made me laugh, and upon occasion, made me sad and worried, as they dealt with turning forty years old. All of this included romantic issues, family issues, including parental divorce, breaking up and moving on from a dysfunctional boyfriend, changing careers, blending an ex-spouse, a step-daughter, a new husband and infant twins into the family and saving Coconuts! Alex (always chic and thinking about her future, career and romantic), Suzy (parenting infant twins and a step-daughter and loving her husband and trying to keep her wedding planning business afloat), Hope ( always hopeful and telling her friends they will find happiness) and Cheri (keeping her catering business running, finding love with a Cowboy and learning how to love life without being wealthy AND helping her divorced mom find happiness) have all taught me about growing up, at forty and beyond! Each of the four friends are special and I love them all!
There were many surprises in the book and a few that really made my heart flutter was Alex’s nerve-wrecking intern and what she did to Alex, Tucker, Hope’s husband and his surprise accomplishment, Victoria Van Buren, Cheri’s mom, and her change of careers and attitude and Gage, Alex and Coconuts. Ahhh. I now have to go and re-read the other five books in this series. This way I can keep their adventures alive and remind myself that we are never too grown up to keep on learning about ourselves!
I did receive an early copy of this book and I have also purchased a copy for my Kindle!
I will miss this series of books, but loved how was all tied together! Beth is a Great author and I can’t wait to read her new books. As I was reading it, I realized how close to the end I was and debated not reading anymore because I didn’t want it to end! Great job and can’t wait for the next one(s)!

OMG LOVE LOVE LOVE What a spectacular wrap up for a fabulous group of best friends! Alex, Suzy, Hope and Cheri each have their own story and these lovely ladies can always count on each other, as best friends should! Oh my goodness, Alex! What an emotional roller coaster ride! Page turner all the way. Drama, romance, suspense, laughter, tears, it’s all there. I can relate to these best friends and the dynamics of what each one is going through emotionally. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from the author and will be reading it again and again, that’s how much I love these ladies.
What a Wonderful Series Wrap-up! Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2022 Well, talk about one book taking me on an emotional roller-coaster? This one did it! LAST CALL AT COCONUTS made me want to start from the beginning, again! Alex, Suzy, Hope, and Cheri had me pulling for them all the way! Brava, Beth Carter! I'll certainly read this book, again!
What a way to end a series. Everything came together beautifully in this story with plenty of twist and turns. A lot happens in such a short time for this group of ladies for their last book. I wish to read more, but it definitely let's you know what's coming up for this group and their life.
Book six took me back to Crystal City and Coconuts with my four besties!
I'm sad that book six was the Last Call; however, I tabbed out with a sense of closure. I laughed, cried, shook my head, and gasped in shock while turning pages with the ladies.
