Dr Audrey Gilbert is in trouble, and the only way to save her job is to get Kevin to return the fold. She is a paranormal psychiatrist and her specialty is healing hackers with PTSD. With minimal information, she meets him…face to face.

Kevin Jorgensen is a recluse, but there is something about Audrey that intrigues him.

Nothing earth shattering, but a nice story and a quick read. I love reading paranormal/supernatural stories and Amanda Uhl has given me a fresh look at a familiar genre, filled with plenty of intrigue.

Dr. Audrey Gilbert is a paranormal psychiatrist for powerful psychics. She has the ability to see into them and fix what's broken. But one such patient went rogue after she released him from her care and someone passed away. She's fired because of this but told by her boss that she can get her job back if she finds Kevin Jorgensen, talks him into letting her help him, fixes what's wrong and he comes back to work. Both Kevin and Audrey are part of the U.S. government’s Cognitive Mind Unit and they want him to come back to work. He is a level 10 telepath/psychic, meaning a very strong, talented, psychic/telepath and they want him to come back to work after 5 years and not getting better.

Kevin Jorgensen spots Audrey in the store the day before she is going to meet him and he can hear his name in her mind so he knows she's there for him, he just doesn't know why. His mind is really messed up after his last mission and no one has been able to help him. He hears and sees things that aren't there but they might be trying to tell him something if he'll only listen.

Kevin feels something for Audrey right away and he's curious about her so he allows her to come in and talk to him. But there's something strange about her and when he realizes that someone has messed with her mind and erased some of her memories, he gets his brother involved who is also a very strong psychic/telepath. Trying to figure out who messed with her mind and why his memories were erased and by whom is where this story takes us. I loved the ride. For a quick novella there was a lot of story in this book.

Teaming up wasn’t Kevin’s idea but if Audrey can help him, he’ll do his best to save her. Mind hacker Kevin comes from a long line of powerful psychics. On a dangerous mission, he almost lost his life thanks to a rogue mind hacker. He suffers greatly because of it and has become a hermit. When Dr. Audrey shows up claiming to help him, he first thinks she’s just another illusion. No, she’s flesh and blood and is stubborn in her willingness to help him. Someone has removed her mind’s blocks and erased part of her memories. But why? To get to him? And why does she seem so familiar? Enlisting the help of his brother, Kevin fights his own self-doubt and his intense attraction to her to do what must be done. Can he do it or will he fail and kill them both?

Dark Waves is an intense paranormal romantic suspense short novella I read in one sitting. While it is helpful to read the previous two books in the series, Amanda Uhl creates enough backstory, so you won’t be lost. There is a tight cast of characters and I connected with them all. I connected most with Audrey, though. I cannot imagine the fear of realizing someone has hacked my mind, removed my mind blocks, and erased some memories. Talk about a violation. The descriptive narration is equally emotional and impressive world-building. With each POV, the reader is linked to every emotion the character is experiencing. The world-building is second to none and introduces the reader to the world of mind hacking. Amanda Uhl continues to impress with an evocative paranormal romantic suspense story, unlike anything I’ve read before. The plot moves at an even pace with a complete story arc in less than one hundred pages. If you’re a paranormal reader, you’ll want to read Dark Waves. I look forward to the next installment in the series. Highly recommend!

Audrey Gilbert is a Psychiatrist for the Cognitive Mind Unit (CMU) which are an elite group of psychics. Her patient Jake is a mind hacker and trained to hack minds and could erase and change thoughts, but six months ago he started showing signs of burn out and was sent to her.

She leaves him to take a call. One of her patients had gone rogue and killed a store owner and now she has just been fired since she had released him from care making her culpable in his crime. But they offered to give her back her job if she can convince a former mind hacker to return to CMU.

She is told that Kevin Jorgensen, a former Level 10 mind hacker, is psychotic and warned that he could cause major damage, erase memories, cause brain damage and even death if he doesn't like her. But, with her mother's ongoing healthcare and her sister's college tuition the decision is made for her. She needs a job.

I absolutely loved this book and my only complaint is that is was a novella. I really wanted more of their story. It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable.

This is a physiological romance thriller that grabbed me from page one. It is action-packed, full of emotion and unexpected twists. Highly recommend!

I wrote Dark Waves as a companion to the first two books in the Mind Hackers series — Mind Waves and Cross Waves. So if you are new to the series, it really helps to read those books first to understand the Mind Hackers world.

This book deals with one of the characters introduced in Mind Waves, Kevin Jorgensen. In Mind Waves, he is hurt on the job but recovers. Of course, as you learn in this story, he didn’t really recover, and has been suffering from hallucinations. He keeps himself far away from those he loves because he is not sure if he might harm them.

Reader’s Favorite calls it, “a short, punchy, and fascinating read.”

I hope you enjoy the read!

This series is fantastic and this novella is a great addition. It is gripping from the first page to the very end. The world of the mind hackers is captivating and filled with intrigue. It is vividly created and draws you deeper into the story. I would recommend reading the whole series but the novella also works as a stand alone story.
I love the relationship between Kevin and Audrey and how it builds, ebbs and flows throughout the story. I also like the insights into Kevin’s relationship with his brother as well.
This is a great read and I am looking forward to returning to the world of the mind hackers in the future.

Audrey is a Paranormal psychiatrist, interesting career and something unique that I've not read before. She helps her broken patients until one leaves her job on the line. Sent off on a task there is a lot more going on that she could possibly imagine.
Interesting story and wonderful characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick afternoon read.

The paranormal and psychic meets romance- yes, please! Pairing the supernatural and romance is my idea of a great read. Author Amanda Uhl is one of my favorite authors in this genre. I had a marvelous time with her first two books, Mind Waves, Mind Hacker Series, Book 1 and Cross Waves, Mind Hacker Series, Book 2.

Dark Waves is the latest in the Mind Hackers collection, and it is a short novella. I would call it an “amuse-bouche”, a little delicious bite to introduce you to the main course of the full Mind Hacker collection. You will meet a fearless paranormal psychiatrist, Dr. Audrey Gilbert and a tormented hacker, Kevin Jorgensen. They are part of the U.S. government’s Cognitive Mind Unit. Kevin had been a telepathic, class 10 hacker as part of the government’s security operations. Five years after a serious situation, Kevin needs help. Can Audrey put his brain back together? And what of the other feelings the two are experiencing for each other?

Dark Waves is a portal into the complete world that Author Uhl has created in the first two books. If you haven’t read this series, Dark Waves will introduce you to the paranormal of CMU and its hackers. Get to know Audrey and Kevin and the small town of Marblehead, OH. You will enjoy the fascinating viewpoint, and the mix of romance, passion and the supernatural. If you have read the first two books, I know you will enjoy getting back to the Mind Hackers.

Dr Audrey Gilbert is a paranormal psychiatrist with a good reputation. Until she gives a patient a clean bill of health and he then goes out and shoots a person. Audrey is fired, but is given the opportunity to get her job back. If she can get Kevin Jorgensen, an unstable mind hacker, to get back to work in the organisation, she will be rehired. The problem is that Kevin has isolated himself and won't welcome her help.

This is a novella/short story from the Mind Hackers series. I've read the two earlier full length books that's been published. I wasn't overly enthusiastic about the first one (Mind Waves), but I quite enjoyed the second book (Cross Waves), and - in my opinion - this is the best so far.

The idea of mind hackers is fascinating, but also disquieting. Imagine someone reading your thoughts is scary all by itself, but these hackers can also erase your memories and replace them with something else. It's interesting to read about, but I wouldn't want to experience it myself!

Short chapters and both Audrey's and Kevin's POV's make this a fast and easy read. I read it in a couple of hours and I can really recommend it!

I signed up to review this because I found the blurb interesting. Then I wound up reviewing the first two books in the series because the blog host said it was recommended to better understand the novella. Although reading the other books isn’t required, I highly recommend it, because what’s happening in this story is an off-shoot of a plotline from Cross Waves.

Anyhoo, as the blurb says, Audrey is good at her job. She can see into a patient’s soul and mend their brokenness. She is a wonderful character readers can root for. Not only is she a smart lady, but she is also a kind woman who takes care of her family, her mother and younger sister. Most of all, she’s always determined to help someone. We think she’s present to help Kevin in order to get her job back after being fired, but I believe Audrey would have shown up anyway because she’s that kind of person.

Kevin Jorgenson is a level 10 psychic who has a broken psych from losing a battle with a rogue psychic. Audrey Gilbert is a paranormal psychologist and has the task of bringing Kevin back into the fold at the Cognitive Mind Unit or CMU. But once Audrey meets Kevin he realizes that her mind has been tampered with. Working together they have to discover who did the mind tampering and why Audrey has a blank spot in her memories. I really liked reading about Kevin and Audrey and how they worked together to find the answers needed to save all the psychics. For a short novella this is a fast fun intriguing sci-fi story with lots of twists and turns. You never know who the bad guy is until the very end. Loved it.

I love the Mind Hackers series. The premise is highly imaginative, intriguing, and unlike anything else I've read. I enjoy a romance that's not only a satisfying read but also makes me think...what if??

The latest book in the series, Dark Waves, does not disappoint. It drew me in immediately and I devoured it in one sitting. Gave me chills to think about the possibility of someone being able to "poke around in" and manipulate another person's mind. And I loved the unexpected twist at the end - I didn't see it coming, but it made perfect sense and wrapped up the story well.

Before reading this novella, it could be helpful to read the first book in this series as an introduction to the world Uhl has created. Can't wait for her next book!

First of all this story is better than I expected. It kept me on my toes, at the edge of my seat. This Novella has introduced me to a new world and I am hooked. It is on 87 pages, so between its length and the incredible story, you will finish in a day. I am fond of the characters and their stories, Audrey and Kevin are well developed characters. This is a battle for survival and it is action packed. It gave me thrills and chills. I look forward to reading more works by Amanda Uhl. I recommend this for all Paranormal, mystery fans.

I enjoyed reading this book. I’ve read Amanda’s previous books Mind Waves and Cross Waves. This book is a lovely addition to the series. Audrey Gilbert is a psychiatrist who helps heal psychics. Kevin is a level 10 mind hacker who needs her help whether he wants it or not. I feel this book could have been developed more, it’s an intriguing story that could have been further developed to take it past novella status. Despite this I found it an enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more from Amanda Uhl. I received this book from BookSirens. I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.

I loved this book. It is just a novella, so it is a short read, but it didn't lack for anything. There was character development, a good storyline with mystery and a satisfying ending.

The book was well-written and an easy and enjoyable read. I liked the two main characters and thought their story was super sweet.

I enjoyed this novella as an introduction to the Series. Would have liked it to be longer but it intrigued me enough that I will get the next book in the series.

Well written and imaginative, I liked the banter and the premise. The characters were believable with the short time the author had to flush them out.

This short intense novella introduces us to the world of mind hacking. The author recommends reading the first two in the series first to understand this world. Of course I didn't and although I fully didn't understand the mind hacking world I still enjoyed this suspenseful paranormal romance.

Audrey is a psychiatrist specialized in broken or burn out soldiers/spys with parapsychic powers. Her brilliant reputation is shaken when one of her former patients kills a random seller. To save her work and continue to help her family, she has to cure Kevin, a powerful telepath turned psychotic. But this job turns even more complicated than she could fear when working with a trained psychic able to tamper with people's mind : not only her feelings grow less an less doctor/patient appropriate but in this world where minds are weapons or playfields, she may need his help as much he needs her.
The story is intriguing, easy to read and cute, the universe seems rich and interesting (spys with mental powers, yes !) but even if the novella is supposed to be a standalone, the length is a little too short to allow a deep understanding of this world. I saw after reading the characters appear in the first novel, so it's probably a good idea to read the other books in the series first.
As an important part of the plot isn't really clarified in the end, I hope to find the explanation in previous or next books.

I received an advance digital review copy from NetGalley and Backlit PR. This is my honest review.

Dark Waves by Amanda Uhl, a Mind Hackers novella, is a physiological romance thriller that grabs the reader from page one. It is an engaging story, action-packed, full of emotion and unexpected twists that reels you into this intense short story. Audrey Gilbert is a psychiatrist who helps heal psychics. Kevin is a level 10 mind hacker who needs her help, whether he wants it or not. The relationship that builds between Kevin and Audrey is amazing as is the connection between them. The insights into Kevin’s relationship with his brother, another mind hacker, added another level of depth to the story. Just the thought of the possibility of someone being able to "poke around in" and manipulate another person's mind is chilling. The world of mind hackers is captivating and filled with intrigue. It is intensely created and draws you deeper into the story. I would recommend reading the whole series but the novella works as a standalone story. This is an enjoyable great read and I look forward to returning to the world of the mind hackers in the future.

Dark Waves is a novella in the Mind Hackers series. It pulled you in from the first page and never let up till the last. While the tags for the different types of psychics and and the various institutions were not fully explained and caused a bit of confusion, it was not hard to figure out the gist of what was happening. There were unanswered questions about who the bad guys were that put them in their situation, which I believe will be answered in future books. I would definitely read more books in the series.

Audrey, a paranormal psychiatrist who specializes in helping ptsd victims of mind hackers, is given an impossible task. It seems simple: get Keven Jorgensen who’s class ten on the psychic scale to go back to work, but the risk is unusually high. She could be mentally harmed or even die. She’s worried about being able to financially help out her family, so she takes the risk. Will she survive? Will she be traumatized?

Audrey is sent to rehabilitate Kevin Jorgensen, who is really suffering. He also sees critical phantoms, and one gives him a dire warning to not be careless. Some interesting spins occur throughout the telling of this tale.

Things get more complicated when Audrey finds herself attracted to Kevin. He picks up on this. Will it escalate?

The book’s theme is a clever concept wrapped in mystery with romantic tension. This tension is increased by a risk factor involved. Secrets and lies are revealed. It is a quick read, worth the look for anyone who likes a little paranormal mixed in with their stories.

This book is full of thrilling, mystery, suspense, and paranormal romance!!

I could not put this book down nor did I want to!!

This book quickly grabs a hold of the reader, pulling them deep into the story, and keeping them intrigued through the last page!!

This book follows main characters, Audrey and Kevin. Audrey is a highly skilled psychiatrist who recently was fired after misdiagnosing a patient. Audrey is not used to failure and feels shaken and uneasy after her costly mistake. However, Audrey is given a second chance but at the extensive cost of treating a deranged and tormented mind hacker. Kevin, who comes from a family of powerful psychics, is troubled and haunted by an intense battle he lost and nearly died from. Kevin is Audrey’s new patient, and while it is her goal to bring him out of his gloomy, depressive, and disturbed stance, Kevin continues to push her away as he swore to never use his gift again and just wants to be left alone. Can these two work together?? Can Kevin trust Audrey?? Can Audrey heal Kevin?? No spoilers here!! But you’ll definitely want to check out this intriguing novella to find out what happens!!

I enjoyed the main characters, especially Audrey. She is likable, relatable, and genuine. I think other readers will be able to easily connect with her honest, sincere, caring, compassionate, and remorseful demeanor.

I also enjoyed the author’s worldbuilding set up!! This book’s worldbuilding is strong, consistent, and cohesive!! Amanda Uhl’s writing style is full of original and thoroughly extensive details!!

This is a super quick read at only 92 eBook pages across twelve short chapters.

This novella is the perfect size for the introduction to a new author and a new book series. A quick read that allows you to dip your toes into Amanda Uhl’s writing style and set you on the path to dive further into her intriguing Mind Hackers Book Series.

This book is technically part of the Mind Hackers Book Series but can be read as a standalone. This book is written as a novella and establishes itself outside of the series so it can be read without any strings or commitments to read the other books. However, this book offers insight into the series and characters that is sure to fascinate and entice readers into wanting to check out the rest of the book series. Currently, the Mind Hackers Book Series consists of Book One, “Mind Waves,” and Book Two, “Cross Waves.”

There are some predictable scenes. However, there are still a few unexpected twists and turns that you won’t see coming but will enjoy watching unfold!!

All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it!! I think all paranormal romance fans will like this book too!! So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading - you won't be disappointed!!

Amazing Story !! . . .

Paranormal psychiatrist Dr. Audrey Gilbert works for the Cognitive Mind Unit (“CMU”) and had released a patient back to the job. That patient then went rogue and killed an innocent man. She is contractually responsible for her patients’ actions with this unusual job she performs. So she was being relieved of her duties. However, since the patient had passed all of their tests to go back to work, her boss was willing to offer her a special deal to earn back her job. She was tasked with restoring the health of a deranged mind hacker, Kevin Jorgenson, a Class 10 psychic who was damaged and some memories stolen as he was battling with a rogue 5 years previously. He was one of their best mind hackers but refuses to go back on the job. He had almost died and was still hallucinating.

Audrey went to Kevin’s isolated home and she talked with him a little, upset that he was picking up all sorts of things from her mind without even trying. She left and Abe, his male hallucination, told him he had to remember something or her life would be in danger. Then he did recall that he had seen a white patch in her mind. Had her memory also been stolen? Yes, her memory had been wiped, he realized – and he recognized the signature of the psychic hacker who did it!

Returning the next day, Audrey smiled when he groused about her arriving at noon. She had promised him coffee and he intended it for breakfast. He had also showered, shaved, and combed his hair, and he smelled wonderful. Yes, he was definitely handsome. When he told her that her memory had been wiped and her protective blocks removed that would have kept her safe from hackers, she actually fainted. It would have taken a Class 10 psychic to remove those blocks, yet she never worked with one before until him. He also suggested that whoever did this to her was the one who caused her rogue patient to kill so she would be fired. And sending her to cure Kevin is just to get her out of their way since he cannot be cured. They never intended to give her job back to her. To her shock, he told her he would hire her to provide his therapy. He told her he could track the hacker but was not well enough yet, so he needed her. They would work together to find out who messed with her mind and save others from going through this. Would they be successful? Would he cooperate and allow her to help him heal? Because he still hasn’t told her everything. His own memory had been compromised.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story that was easy to read and kept my full attention on the story line to the very end! It was well written and absolutely intriguing. Don’t miss this one!

Short, sweetly passionate romance in a paranormal series with intrigue; standalone story
The paranormal bit in this book is limited so if that is not your thing, don’t worry. It is indeed a romance between two unlikely sorts, but read further and you’ll think otherwise. If you appreciate the paranormal, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Dr. Audrey Gilbert is a Psychiatrist at the Cognitive Mind Unit where an elite group of psychics perfect their mind hacking abilities for good. But it appears something’s afoot and may not be all that good, especially for Audrey. She’s given one opportunity to “fix” things by going to a reclusive and possibly dangerous former mind hacker, Kevin Jorgenson. Their first meeting is eerie for both of them. Why? When it becomes clear to Kevin and eventually to Audrey, the reader will be pleased.
If you like passionate romance with no explicit scenes, read this sweet and intriguing story. I hope we get more about Audrey’s sister, Chelsea and her new romantic interest. His entry into Chelsea’s life seems oddly convenient based on what happens in this book. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens.

The Dark Waves novella was my introduction to this series and to Amanda Uhl, the author. I am impressed. There is enough back story included so I didn’t feel lost and more than enough intrigue to keep me turning the pages quickly.

The concept of mind hackers is frightening and believable. I understood the process and it’s potential for abuse easily.

Paranormal psychiatrist Dr. Audrey Gilberto is quite relatable with her need to provide financial assistance for her mother’s care and her younger sisters Harvard tuition.

Kevin Jorgensen comes from a powerful psychic family. After an accident, he has sworn off using his powers and turned into a recluse.

When the two come together under suspicious circumstances, sparks fly.

A novella needs a unique style of writing to make book successful. The author made it work well in this story. She built the tension and mystery, fleshed out the characters, and tied in the romance, making Dark Waves a very entertaining and enjoyable read. I can’t wait to go back and read the first two books. I get the feeling there is more to come.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I really love the uniqueness of the Mind Hackers series, and this novella definitely did not disappoint. Have read all three of the books now in the series, and the author has a 3 for 3 success rate with me.

I was prepared to really give it a lower rating due to some gaps that I found, but they were nicely tied up and made sense at the end.

Page-turner, with some romance, intrigue and a bit of a suspense to add to the mix.

Loved the characters, and their relationship with each other.

Finished this one in a day, and look forward to the next in this series. I hope that the author builds on this novella and delves a bit more in depth on Audrey, Kevin's and Jordan's stories.

It is important, in my opinion, to read the Mind Hacker books in order, as that way there will be no confusion as the world-building has already been tackled in the first two books.

Dark Waves is Amanda Uhl's recent novella in her Mind Hackers Series. This volume speaks to the danger and lasting harm that can occur when a 'mind-hacking' mission goes wrong. I find this series fascinating, largely because the author addresses psychic abilities that many people have to some degree but generally don't know how to control or use except to protect their own psyche in the most basic way and under great need and extrapolates to people having greatly enhanced talents, learning to control their abilities working in teams, and the ways they could be exploited by governments or even crime rings causing damage to themselves or others. This volume focuses on one of the most gifted mind hackers, damaged in a mission that went wrong, and a specialized psychiatrist sent to try to help him. There are many thought-provoking twists to this particular story which enhance the overall plot. I thank the author for an advance review copy and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
