Maklr has dedicated his life to helping the injured. When the human females began to arrive on Klaga from slavery situations on various planets, he requested a more permanent position. He was sent to Klaga to be the head medic at the transitional living center for the humans. Though he has a team of Klagan doctors at his beck and call, he still prefers a hands-on approach to heal both the bodies and minds of the rescued humans.
Nell is one of the first rescued humans to arrive in the transitional living center on Klaga. She needs time to heal and process her trauma. She’s withdrawn into her mind, shying away from any attention. Around Maklr, she feels almost comfortable, and is inexplicably drawn to him. Are her feelings just a form of Stockholm Syndrome, or could it be something much more? Could he possibly be her salvation?
Can a Klagan Medic Warrior resist the urge to keena bond his fated one to him while she’s so traumatized? Can a withdrawn woman learn to trust her instincts and have faith in herself once more?
This is Book 4 in the Klagan Warriors series, but it can be read as a stand alone, though it does feature characters from prior novels. It has a HEA, no cheating and no cliffhangers.

💫💫💫💫💫 Maklr Review @hollyhanzo This isn’t just another alien romance. Maklr is a soul-deep journey of healing, survival, and what it means to be truly seen by someone — even if that someone has horns and comes from another planet. This book reaches far beyond the usual bounds of sci-fi smut. It's raw, vulnerable, and achingly honest. Through the character of Nell, we glimpse the unrelenting ache of survival after SA — the shame, the silence, and the deep loneliness that trauma can leave behind. But then enters Maklr — not to save her, but to hold space for her healing. Maklr is gentle where others might be afraid, and patient where others might turn away. His love isn’t flashy — it’s steady, safe, and soul-soothing. It takes a special kind of man — alien or not — to love someone through their broken pieces without ever making them feel like they’re hard to hold. And that’s exactly what Mak does. This book broke me open in the best way. It's for the survivors. It’s for the ones still healing. It’s for anyone who’s ever needed to know that love doesn’t flinch in the dark.
To the author — I see you. I love you. Your bravery bleeds through every word. And to anyone picking this up? Prepare for healing. Prepare for hurt. And prepare to fall in love with a man (alien) who redefines what true love should look like. 🔥 Spice Level: 5/5 💔 Emotional damage: 10/5 🛸 Maklr: Book boyfriend status unlocked.
Signed, @thebookplugg — your local unhinged reviewer who cried through the smut 😭🛸💋
I enjoyed this book because Maklr was so understanding and patient with traumatized Nell. His patience helped her overcome her abduction and the PTSD she had as a result. And Charlotte was sneaky and adorable, sending them on that forced vacation!
Where do I even start...Holly what did you put in this one?! Maklr was raw, unfiltered, and authentic throughout which made the characters feel so very real. The story also showed a vulnerable side but not weakness - the FMC has been through it and to me the MMC really showed her that it’s okay to let go just a bit while you heal and fight those demons, but also that she wasn’t at all alone.
From pacing to writing, storyline, and then chemistry - it all feels natural. Even if they aren’t from the same race, planet, or belief system it’s like warm caramel and salt. It just fits - perfecty, might I add.
Nell (FMC) hits home in so many ways, including the pain and worries. Maklr (MMC) doesn’t try to change her, he tries to help her and to keep her safe.
An O per day keeps the Dr away - unless you’re dating them am I right?!
El’s scales Plot: 4.5/5 - perfect for a quick read! Characters: 5/5 - LOVE these two. Spice: 3.75/5 - really good, open door spice. Overall: 5/5 - I genuinely loved the escape!
I received an ARC of this book and I am leaving my own honest review voluntarily
This is a really emotional read, and a sensitive journey of healing. The writer pays special attention to the rollercoaster of emotions and turmoil her characters experienced, and puts it into beautiful words.
Sweet Nell, so traumatised by her time at the hands of the Elodians, and the deliciously protective doctor, Maklr, who puts in so much effort to draw her out of herself, and to work within her boundaries, to help her heal.
It was lovely to cross paths with the characters from other books in the series, and just a beautiful journey to witness. Definitely a book I'll be rereading!
Holly Hanzo has another wonderful book in Maklr. He'sa doctor who has designed a state of the art trauma and treatment center for both Klagan solders hurt in war and the many human females saved from slavery. Nell doesn't talk much since her enslavent and abuse. After a particularly grueling situation treating injured solders, both Maklr and Nell are sent to a resort for R&R. Over the week they finally realize their attraction is real especially as Maklr is always looking for consent before they engage in any intimacy. Love can overcome.
A short and sweet story about healing through the power of love. Maklr is a Klagan warrior, dedicated doctor for both Klagan warriors and humans. Nell was sold, used and abused until the rescue by the klagan warriors. Her traumas are such that she doesn't speak . Even being a short story, Holly Hanzo knew how to keep the reader in a full engagement adding new elements and exploring the emotions, traumas and struggles. And how can we not love Maklr? He is a sweetheart, caring and devoted.
A lovely low angst, short and sweet story of how love can provide the impetus to overcome any problem if the love is powerful enough. Maklr is the head klagan doctor, who is worn out from needing to be always on and responsible in his job. Nell has been rescued by klagan warriors and has a tragic past from the abductors abuse. I love how Holly Hanzo handles all the raw emotions in this story and shows how love is truly an exceptional healer.
This book has all the feels - it was sweet, spicy, vulnerable, a punch to the gut. It's definitely one of Holly's more emotion packed books while staying true to that signature Klagan flavor.
This one, ooof. Really touching. Teared up on more than one occasion. But Maklr... wish he was real. Would love one of my very own. You will cry (probably lol) but you will LOVE it.
