History of Witches is a great follow-up to Hunted by Darkness. This is the third book in the Coven of Shadows and Secrets and it was awesome with an impending apocalypse, enemies piling up, missing stones, and a Prince of Hell on the loose, sure makes for an exciting adventure.
After only depending on herself for so long, Meredith has finally started to trust and lean on her Coven members. As a matter of fact, Mer and Tobias have gotten closer, and their bond has grown a lot. There is a connection, an attraction, they get along better, are learning each other, and more understanding. I like this new version of them. Tobias is very protective of Mer, both leaning into something new but the angst is still there, these two are killing me.
Speaking of angst. Things between Hans and Shay are horrible, Shay lets her angelic-born prejudices against hellblood color her attitude against Hans and I wanna shake her. While Hans's guilt has him making one bad decision after another when it comes to his sister. Honorable mention, Gunner gave off adorable puppy vibes whenever he appeared in the book and I absolutely loved it, it just put a smile on my face.
Readers get a closer look at the supernatural government. The Covenant is this ruling party of supes with each race represented by three seats. There is a lot of political underhandedness and I outright distrust at least two of its members and others have been warned about. They are sure to be a problem sooner rather than later. Also, more was learned about the lapis caelesti, a lot of information surrounding the gems was revealed as well. There is this whole destiny vibe going on when it comes to Meredith and these powerful gems.
History of Witches was a fun read with a great plot and full of characters I already adore. The end was utter chaos, a complete dumpster fire enemies are closing in on all sides but the pieces are slowly coming together, and looks like another quest is on the horizon. Things are messy and complicated, I don't know if things can get messier but I guess I'll find out in the next book.
