A little time in beautiful Italy is just what Lady Amelia Windermere and her eccentric family need while their latest scandal dies down. Amelia is hard at work on their triumphant return to London society when she meets His Grace Tristan Carteret, Duke of Ripon, a sculptor who is too wild for any proper lady.
Meets a dissolute Duke…
Tristan isn’t eager to let go of la dolce vita that he’s enjoyed in Florence—until he meets Amelia. She may appear to be one more uptight debutant, but he soon realizes that there’s a talented artist and a passionate woman just aching to emerge. If only she can forget what society says and concentrate on what she feels when she’s with him.
And that’s how Lady Amelia Takes a Lover…
Exploring their art leads to Amelia and Tristan exploring much more than stone or canvas. But Amelia knows that indulging her desire for the dissolute Duke comes with a price—more scandal. Tristan refuses to give up on the real Amelia just because of society’s rules, but can he sway her to make him her future?
USA Today bestselling author Sofie Darling’s passion for historical romance began in middle school the moment she cracked open Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. An instant and enduring love affair was born.
Sofie spent much of her twenties raising two boys and reading every romance she could get her hands on. Once she realized she simply must write the books she loved, she finished her English degree and set pencil to paper. (Ticonderoga #2 is her quill of choice.)
When she’s not writing heroes who make her swoon, Sofie enjoys a nice weekend hike, a visit to a crumbling medieval castle whenever she gets the chance, and a slightly codependent relationship with her beagle, Bosco.

Lady Amelia Takes a Lover by Sofie Darling is the first book in the Windermeres in Love series. Lady Amelia Windermere and her family go to Italy while they wait for their latest scandal in London to die down. Tristan Carteret, Duke of Ripon, encounters Amelia when she is on her way to her next art lesson. A sculptor, Tristan enjoys making art of the human form. Upon his first impression, he believes Amelia to be the typical uptight socialite. But he soon recognizes a fellow artist who needs to put Society’s opinions on the back burner and focus on how she feels, specifically about him. The two explore their art together and grow ever closer.
This is a quick read about two people who really put themselves out there and end up getting just what they need. I’m curious for the next book!
Happy release day! 💙🖌️ Thank you Netgalley and Dragonblade Publishing for this Arc.
The book starts off introducing our heroine, Amelia, who is an uptight, rules-follower, proper lady. Then she goes on on meeting our hero, Tristan, who is a dashing scandalous rake. They collide spectacularly. They share their love for art in its different forms. He helps her see her full potential. and she helps him connect with his emotions. Artists going crazy for each other. They are each other's muse.
I did find the heroine too naïve at times and the hero too arrogant for my liking. There was definitely psychical attraction but it didn't feel like they had any connection other than that. Putting all that aside, it was a fun, steamy, fast read.
The Heroine Lady Amelia Windermere is a very proper, English lady who adamantly adheres to the rules of society. Her siblings, however, do not. Which is why they find themselves hiding in Italy to wait for her sisters latest scandal to subside. Amelia can’t wait to her back to London and rejoin society. But when she wins a raffle prize, things start to change…Triston, the Duke of Ripon is to sculpt a bust of her! Although she finds him arrogant and rude, Amelia admits she is very attracted to him. She makes a scandalous bargain with him; they will each pose nude for the other to scout or paint. From there, Amelia starts to lower her guard and her society rules start to loosen!
The Hero Triston, Duke of Ripon has been Duke since he was a small boy. He threw himself into being a good son, a good student and a good Duke. But when it came time to marry, he just can’t imagine himself loving a wife so his fiancé jilted him. Scandal ensued and his mother offered to let him escape the Dukedom for 5 years before he must return and take his place again. He has no desire to return to the restrictions of London society, that is until he pictures a life with Amelia by his side and it somehow seems tolerable.
The Plot Lady Amelia Takes a Lover is a short, sweet love story that takes two unwilling people and throws them together to discover what they never knew they needed! I believed everything about them and their feelings towards each other. I loved the proper Miss being debauched by the reluctant Duke; it was delicious! This is my first book by Ms. Darling and I am eager to see which Windermere gets their story next!

I loved this series starter & now look forward to the rest of the series. A well written book with strong characters who are likeable. I loved both Tristan & Amelia, their verbal banter was a delight & their chemistry sizzled, both are talented artists & when they agree to pose for each other they seal their fate. I read this engrossing read in a sitting & loved every page My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I adored this story! This is the first book I have read by Sofie Darling and I am already eager for the next book! Before telling ya’ll what I loved about this story please note this series is part of Dragonblade's Flame line, so this is a sexy, steamy, and scorching-hot read with multiple sex scenes. Be advised. So don’t go hating on this book just because it’s hot as Hades, you have been warned 😉
This is the first book of the Windermeres in Love series so it does contain quite a few characters as a means of introduction for upcoming books. However, the MCs in this story are Lady Amelia Windermere and Tristan Carteret the Duke of Ripon. The majority of the story takes place in 1820’s Florence, Italy, which makes for a nice change of scenery versus typical Regency Romance.
When the story begins Amelia and Tristan are both at different points in their lives. Amelia is doing everything in her power to repair the infamous and “slightly” improper reputation of her family, the Windermeres. Amelia, her sister, and her cousin have been living in Florence for the last year. Amelia’s brother, Lord Daniel Windermere, Viscount Archer, has recently joined the ladies, now the hope is London Society will forget a previous scandal and the Windermeres will be welcomed back to the haute ton and invited to the must attend end of season ball.
Tristan, the Duke of Ripon, went to live in Florence four years and six months prior to the story beginning. Tristan has been the Duke of Ripon since he was three years old, he has always done what was expected of him, always placing the dukedom before his own happiness. After an event known as the Jilting, Tristan headed for Florence with the agreement to return to London after 5-years to continue his duty as the Duke of Ripon. While in Florence Tristan has been indulging his passions and working hard at mostly avoiding pesky Italian Society, he has earned the moniker of the “old decrepit and lecherous Duke of Ripon” - even though he is only in his 30’s 😉
The last thing Lady Amelia Windermere needs is another family scandal. Quite the opposite in-fact and she has been behaving with the utmost decorum. Things change very quickly once she gets a taste of the wild, passionate Duke of Ripon. Let’s just say her priorities begin to shift as her body and heart are awoken by the sinfully sexy Duke!
“The look in his eyes shifted, no longer distant, but considering. “I’ll get what I want, and you’ll get what you need.” “And what is it I need?” she asked, a bit breathless. “Experience,” he said, his gaze unrelenting. “And I can give it to you with my body.” Yet another blade of heat struck through Amelia, and for a moment she forgot what they were even discussing. “You need to fully immerse yourself in the human form to deepen your work.”
Tristan and Amelia are exceptional characters. There is an electric type of chemistry that the couple shares that sizzles off the page. Tristan and Amelia’s encounters are intense and provocative. Once these two give in to desire, their world goes up in flames! 🔥🔥I loved every minute of their sensual journey.
“‘A woman needs to be adored every now and again.’” He spread his hands wide in a gesture of helplessness. “I politely informed her that wouldn’t be possible.” “You told your fiancée—the woman you were to spend the rest of your life with—that you would never adore her?” “Or any other woman, to be fair.” He shrugged. “It was only the truth.” *sigh* Why are men so clueless?
By the end of the story Tristan was doing much better with adoring the woman he loved and Amelia was doing much better at figuring out what really matters in life.
“He liked her laugh. He might adore it, too. Was there no end to his adoration for this woman? Now that he’d gotten the knack of it, he couldn’t seem to stop.” … “What lay between them had naught to do with their status as lord and lady, but as man and woman.” … “On a low growl, he swept her into his arms and came to his feet. He caught her eye and held it. “Bloody hell, woman, if I’m to ravish you, then let’s do it properly in a bed for once.” … “She wasn’t sure who had claimed who, but the end result was the same: they belonged to each other.”
I encourage you to grab this book and dive in to this sexy & fun world that Sofie Darling has created. I have a feeling the rest of Amelia’s family’s stories are going to be just as good as this one is, and I am happy to have found a new author whose stories are quite … invigorating 😉
Lady Amelia's family is known for their unconventional behavior. Living in Italy gives them more freedom without all of London's restrictions. Amelia's goal for her family is to once again be accepted by London society. She writes letters to everyone she knows to help her achieve her goal of attaining an invitation to the Marchioness of Sutton's ball when they return to London. In Italy she meets Tristan, the Duke of Ripon, art is their bond. She paints in watercolors, he is a sculptor. A bargain between them will test the limits of their attraction. Tristan's pursuit of Amelia breaks down her proper lady demeanor. He wants more than a mistress. Amelia must decide on the life she really wants. Heat level 5 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
3.5 stars. It took some time for me to get into the story but they're both artists and they found each other to be their muses. The intimate times they spent creating each other's works really helped them grow closer.
Thank you to Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for the DRC.
The first half of this book almost made me DNF. Lady Amelia is a prim and proper lady who constantly scolds her siblings, gasps at improper conversation and stamps her foot in a tantrum. And somehow we’re meant to believe that despite several encounters like this, the antisocial Duke develops an interest in Lady Amelia. He sees past her prim attitude to see the other woman inside, which he discovers based on a few watercolor paintings. The entire first half, the relationship seemed forced and unbelievable.
The second half of the book was a little better, probably due to the spice picking up, making dialogue and internal monologues less necessary. The spice writing was better than the rest. Most of the book seemed somewhat abrupt and modern in sentence structure, and the overall writing wasn’t great.
For example: “As he hadn’t been wearing a cravat in the first place, but rather a simple red neckerchief, he now looked decidedly manly.
Like the most masculine man she’d ever beheld.
He rolled one sleeve, then the other, up to his elbows, and his manliness increased tenfold.”
As I mentioned before, the second half of the book was better, but the first half spoiled it somewhat.
Lady Amelia Takes a Lover, by Sofie Darling. Ok let’s give credit where credit is due. OOOOO GIRL THIS BOOK WAS STEAMMMMMYYYYY. Who needs sleep?! I just had to finish this book. You guys I loved everything about this story. Sofie did a splendid job of telling a story about two people who quite frankly did not care two cents of what other people thought about them. Amelia and Tristan are the two main characters, who simply wanted piece among their family. They saw themselves doing what they love of creating art work for the world to see. The fun part of the story for me or should I say, the most romantic part for me is when our leading couple try so hard to fight these strange emotions that come over them when their around one another. The exciting parts for me, is when the story takes you through the romantic tale of when Tristan and Amelia find each other. Let me say this though. I should have known what direction this book was taking when I read that the lead male character is a sculptor. Oh laud! Who new Italy is the place where one might find so much pleasure. Lady Amelia and her siblings had no idea of how much fun that they would have, while waiting out the scandal that’s connected to their name to blow over. Alright people I’m putting it out there. My absolute favorite part of the book that I just can not seem to get out of my mind. Are you ready for it? It’s when Tristan posed naked for Amelia’s painting! Good God! I mean the man is sitting on a day bed. His arms are draped out over the couch with his legs spread wide to the world and his male anatomy standing attention for Lady Amelia to see. How can you even get in the mind set of painting much less his head, ( not that head ladies), when the man’s you know what is right there?! I think that I about died or fainted right after reading it this scene. I can only remember my daughter saying mom are you alright? This book has a few spicy and sensual moments that are very passionate. I give this book two snaps and a, I need a one way ticket to Italy please. Baggage you ask? Honey, what I plan on doing in Italy clothing is not required. Hang on Triston your darling is coming. (In more ways than you can think of). Until next time my fellow readers… read on!
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.
Lady Amelia Windermere is doing everything she can to ensure that she and her family are received on their return to London. After her sister Delilah causes a scandal while acting at Eton, the family head for Florence, and Amelia sets the ball rolling to return for the final ball of the Season, before their parents find out. While in Italy, she explores her art, and starts to dabble in watercolours of landscapes and her family. But as a young and proper lady, she has little chance to study the human form. Meeting the handsome, and very much not old, Duke of Ripon, she's drawn to a man like she never has been before, and when they make a bargain to both model, nude, for the other, soon they can't keep their hands off each other. But as their feelings turn to love, and marriage is on the table, will Amelia take it, or will she hold out for her return to society?
I liked this book, and especially the fact it was such a quick read. We meet the Windermere family as they are in a sort of self imposed exile in Florence, and the eldest daughter, Amelia, is very straight and proper. She wants the best for her family, and hides her passion from them all. But meeting Tristan, he seems to be a catalyst which sparks her light, and she can't hide her wants and needs from him. I liked the way they brought each other out, and they grew as individuals and a couple. The moments they were together after their separation was well worth it, especially as their feelings were revealed and reciprocated. The epilogue was extremely cute, and I hope we see them happy in the subsequent books!
This is my 13th book by Sofie Darling. I just started reading her December 31, 2024. I am so glad I asked about her in my steamy FB group because she is definitely steamy and gets such great depth with her characters and her storylines. Plus I love a good book cover and she has such pretty book covers. 😊
It has been awhile since I've done this but I love Sofie's writing so much, I read alll 7 books in her Shadows and Silks series back-to-back. I then got all her series, All's Fair in Love and Racing and read those back-to-back. Now I have started this series and I will read all the books back-to-back. It will be sad when I have no more of her books to read.
I loved this couple, Amelia and Tristan. Their story was great. I loved their personalities. Sex was freakin' hot. I loved how they ended up not afraid of their artistic talents no matter the subject. Really good read.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley and this is my freely given opinion.
This is the first time I am reading a book from this author and I have to say I will be reading more by her! I have no idea where I got this impression from, but I thought she wrote more tame and cleanly, and while there is nothing wrong with that, I like things more towards the earthy, hot, and steamy end. This short novel definitely delivered on the later.
Lady Amelia is in Italy with her family. Apparently the Windermeres are rather steeped in scandal and edging the fringes of Society, and they have taken themselves off to Italy to rusticate so to speak... and likely indulge in a more free society there. But Amelia is the older sister, and more straitlaced of the bunch and tries to get the others to toe the line Society sets for acceptable behaviour, in the hopes of being accepted back into the societal folds. She has the wild, artistic nature that seems to be part of the Windemere make, but suppresses it much better than other family, by pursuing the more acceptable and lady-like dabbling in watercolours.
Tristan, the Duke of Ripon, has been in Italy for over 4 years, indulging and stretching his wings as a sculptor. He inherited the mantle of Duke at a very young age, and after being jilted by his fiancee, his mother decided to give him a reprieve to his duties of 5 years. He and Amelia become involved when she wins his artistic services at a charity raffle and they strike sparks off each other.
They share their artistic sides with each other, and Tristan challenges Amelia to stretch her boundaries and push beyond what is expected. This becomes a very hot and steamy affair that is unfortunately brief, as Amelia still wishes to return to England and take back her place in Society.
This story is quite short, but written with a lot of descriptive verve and impact. You are introduced to the other Windemeres and get a quite a bit of an impression as to their quirks and a hints of what is to come. The story of Amelia and Tristan is written with a lot of heat and passion, but it's not just about sex, Darling fleshes them out with quite about their artistic passions as well, inner fears, and their pasts, in efficient detail.
This was a short and quick read, but so very enjoyable. I am definitely going to read more by her!
SLOW BURN!!!! Lady Amelia Takes a Lover by Sofie Darling is the first in her new series Windermeres in Love and what a great way to start a new series. This sooty is so original and it really gives the feel of the regency era. If I had a negative about this book is that I wish it was written a tad simpler. Some of the sentences did not make sense to me and I had to look up some of the word. For a doe-doe like me simpler is better. What I really loved about this story was the slow burn between Tristian & Amelia…oh the chemistry was great!! Also that whole story revolving around being artist in different ways to be challenged and who doesn’t fall in love with a dark brooding Duke. Sofie has such a creative mind and this story did not disappoint. This story has a Lady that does watercolors, a Duke that sculptures, winning a bid, facing challenges, not wanting to marry, being stood up 3 day be their wedding, having too much to drink, taking a swim in a fountain (that really cracked me up), not showing one’s true self and falling in love. I am recommending you read this book.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
This novella is the first in the series, and we are introduced to the unconventional Windermere family. Lady Amelia Windermere, along with her sister and cousin, have taken some time to stay in Italy after being a part of a scandal. Lady Amelia spends her time painting and trying to find a way back into polite society. When suddenly she bumps into the Tristan, the Duke of Ripon, her world as she knew it turns upside down. After a few meetings, these two decide on a bargain that ultimately leads to both of them giving into their passions and desire for each other.
This was a very enjoyable novella. Sofie Darling has a great style of writing and I cannot wait to read more of this series. If you're looking for a short, steamy read, I highly recommend giving this book a chance!
Thank you NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for this ARC.
Meet the unique & scandalous Windermeres - a brother, two sisters, and a cousin make up this eccentric family that has taken up temporary residence in Florence, Italy while the scandal they left in London dies down and Lady Amelia, the most proper, works on regaining entry back into London society. She is spending her time doing the one thing she loves and that is painting - watercolors are her medium and she is very good.
Perhaps this was true of Lady Amelia until she literally runs into Tristan, Duke of Ripon. The duke has taken a five year retreat to Italy and he only has a few months left before he returns to London to take up the title of duke but in the meantime, he is enjoying his time and love of sculpting and living up to his nickname "The Desolate Duke".
When the two artists get together, there is instant electricity and chemistry, but Amelia is skeptical because of his known behaviors, and she cherishes her reputation. But Tristan is handsome, sexy, sensual, and magnetic - she tries to resist his charm but the two of them make beautiful music together and it is crackling hot! However, can or does this bachelor want to settle down and can Lady Amelia give up this romantic chance and instead return the family back into the overly snobbish Tom?
This had characters that have real substance; the dialogue and humor are well-written with genuinely emotional scenes and a sizzling steamy romance. I was gifted this ARC from Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley; I have voluntarily read, reviewed it and all thoughts & opinions are my own.
This is the first book in a new series Windermeres in Love, and this book makes me anticipate the rest of the books in the series. Lady Amelia and her siblings are in Italy to let the scandal of their family pass in England. Tristan, who is a Duke, is in Italy to study his art, he is a sculptor. They meet by accident, but they really get together after Amelia wins a sculpture made by Tristan. Tristan and Amelia, who is a painter, has their art to connect them, but that is only the start. The real connection is the sizzling passion and chemistry they share. This was so enjoyable; I did not want it to end. I received an ARC from NetGalley and am leaving my honest review.
Sweet with heat regency romance. I enjoyed this story quite a bit. Not my usual cup of tea but I fell for book one and loved this follow up even more! I loved how Amelia thought she had to be one thing, live one way in order for her family and herself to be accepted only to find that success was a bit hollow and to chase her dream and her love. Tristan is a wonderfully frustrating and fascinating man and I can see how she could fall for him so easily. Lovely story with a roundabout way to a hea.
Amelia Windermere seeks to return her siblings and herself to high society, a position lost after behaviour considered shocking. Presently in Italy, she awaits the invitation which will signal the end of their notoriety. Tristan is also notorious, a duke who was jilted. He is also a sculptor. Given the opportunity to sculpt Amelia, things go too far. A short and interesting story, with three other family members to come.
Tristan and Amelia make living in infamy so appealing. What happens when everything you think you wanted is proven wrong? You ditch the stuffy Ton and live a life of passion and love with your Duke.
This book was full on fabulous. I just want to live in this world of passionate abandonment…. Sighs.
I loved this delightful story introducing the eccentric Windermeres, as they romp through Italy, with Lady Amelia being the most proper one of the trio. That is until she comes across Tristan, the Duke of Ripon. Both are artists, he a sculptor, she a painter of watercolors. He is a force to be reckoned with, handsome and sensual, with quite a reputation. She is the moth to his flame. Together they ignite in passion that sizzles off the pages! But what happens in Italy, stays in Italy. Can she give up it up for an opportunity to be an acceptable member of the snobbish ton?
An Amazingly Hot Pair! Lady Amelia is certainly a very different kind of Bluestocking. She most definitely knows what or rather who she wants and goes after him, no holds barred! Tristan is just ‘yummy’, good looking, well built, hard wortking, knowledgeable and willing to share his knowledge too. To top it all, he has a lovely personality. Together they fire up the pages and give us a captivating love story, which I devoured!
Lady Amelia Takes a Lover by Sofie Darling kicks off the Windermeres in Love series with a delightful blend of wit, passion, and art-infused romance. From the very first page, it's clear this family’s escapades will be nothing short of entertaining. Lady Amelia, the most composed of the Windermeres, is a model of propriety, clinging to society’s rules with determined grace. While her family waits out their latest scandal in Italy, she’s focused on reclaiming their place among London’s elite, determined to restore their standing one carefully calculated step at a time.
Enter Tristan Carteret, the Duke of Ripon, infamously dubbed the dissolute Duke. After a five-year hiatus from his duties, he’s set to reenter society’s spotlight. Initially dismissive of Amelia as just another prim-and-proper debutante, Tristan quickly discovers she’s anything but. Beneath her polished exterior lies a gifted artist with a fiery spirit she keeps tightly under wraps. A sculptor himself, fascinated by the human form, Tristan is irresistibly drawn to Amelia’s hidden depths, eager to be the one to ignite the passion she so carefully conceals.
The chemistry between Amelia and Tristan is electric. Their struggle against their growing attraction only adds to the intensity, and when they finally surrender, the results are nothing short of explosive. Their shared love for art weaves seamlessly into their sensual journey, enriching their encounters with a vivid, almost tactile allure. Their passion isn’t just physical—it’s transformative, challenging both to reconsider their views on love, desire, and societal expectations.
Sofie Darling’s writing is sharp, vibrant, and laced with just the right touch of sarcasm, adding a delightful edge to the story. Her characters are richly drawn, their dialogue sparkling with wit and emotional depth. Amelia’s evolution from a tightly controlled society lady to a woman embracing her desires is both satisfying and empowering, while Tristan’s unwavering pursuit of the authentic Amelia makes him an irresistible hero.
Lady Amelia Takes a Lover is a captivating start to what promises to be an unforgettable series. With its perfect mix of steamy romance, artful passion, and clever banter, it’s a story that lingers long after the final page. I can’t wait to see what’s next for the Windermeres!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Lady Amelia Windermere traveled to Italy to help her family recover from their latest scandal and restore their reputation so they would be welcomed back into polite society once again. There she met Tristan, the Duke of Ripon, the Dissolute Duke who was in Italy to escape the demands and expectations controlling him in England. Brought together by their art, Amelia and Tristan started out at odds with each other, her need for propriety and respectability in stark contrast to his arrogance and condescension.
As the first in the Windermeres in Love series, this story sets the stage beautifully for what's to come. I loved everything about this book from the art to the passion to the character development. The gorgeous Italian countryside provided the perfect backdrop, complementing the nature of their art in the most stunning way. With their art providing the inspiration, painting and sculpting releasing fears and inhibitions, Amelia and Tristan experienced an intimacy so incredibly sensuous and luscious as they explored each other with abandon. In a relationship fueled by creative passion and pure honesty that only added to its heat and intensity, Amelia and Tristan saw fully into the hidden depths of each other, right down to the very core of their souls.
Steamy as sin as they defied expectations, I could not get enough of these two. While never losing his honor and integrity, Tristan was just so wicked and tantalizing, lighting up the pages as he gave himself to Amelia. As she finally discovered the freedom to feel, Amelia challenged Tristan to revisit every notion he'd ever had of love while he opened her mind to a different way of living, one in which she didn't need to seek approval or conform to the rules of society without question. At its heart, this book emphasized the value of a life of possibility expressed through art, full of desire and passion, free from expectations, with the future holding hope both Amelia and Tristan could be fulfilled in a way neither had ever thought possible.
** Special thanks to Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. Available July 28, 2022. **
Lady Amelia Windermere spends time in Italy with her family to weather out a scandal. She desperately wants to improve their reputations, so they can re-enter into the ton’s good graces. Amelia encounters Tristan Carteret on her way to an art lesson. She finds the man rude yet utterly fascination. Amelia surprises herself by proposing an improper bargain: she will model for his art if he returns the favor. Will Amelia succeed in re-entering into Polite Society? Or will she choose infamy with The Dissolute Duke. Tristan Carteret, the Duke of Ripon, is a sculptor residing in Florence, Italy. He is not eager on returning to England to assume his ducal duties. Tristan happens upon Amelia. He believes her to be like all the other English debutantes back home. Tristan finds he wants to help the uptight miss embrace her repressed passionate side and artistic talent. He knows he ought to refuse the bargain she suggested. Can Tristan persuade Amelia to forget about society’s rules? Will he convince her they belong together? Will he convince her they belong together? Tristan and Amelia mesh well together. Their differences balance out the others. Amelia cares too much about Polite Society’s opinions while Tristan does not. Tristan embraces his artistic side while Amelia merely skims hers. I love how Tristan encourages Amelia to explore and eventually share her art with others. He knows that goes against Society’s regulations of what a gentlewoman can do. LADY AMELIA TAKES A LOVER is the first book in Sofie Darling’s historical romance series, WINDERMERES IN LOVE. It was first published by Dragonblade Publishing on July 28, 2022. I assume the author received her rights back to re-release the title with a brand-new – softer and beautiful- cover. The story, like the prequel MR. SINCLAIR BEGUILES A BLUESTOCKING, is on the short side. Which did not detract from the plot or the storyline. The Windermeres are an interesting family. Each member seems to have a talent/hobby that they excel at. Amelia with her art, Archie with his piano playing, Delilah with her acting, and Juliet with her writing… I love that aspect.
Lady Amelia Takes A Lover by Sofie Darling is the start of an exciting new series. It will be fun to read. Amelia, her sister, her cousin, and her brother have escaped to Italy to let the scandal blow over. She wants to reinstate them with the ton and has been working toward that end for a year or more. She dabbles in watercolor. Actually, she is quite good. One day in the courtyard of the master who is guiding her she runs into (literally) an ox of a man. He has the biggest hands she’s even seen. He’s rude, or so she thinks. It turns out he’s the Duke of Ripon, another Englishman, running from the ton. He is on a five-year break from his life, given him by his mother. At the end of the five years he is to return to England and take up his responsibilities, including marriage and the begetting of an heir. He is not happy about it. He is a sculptor. After one thing and another they agree that if he will pose nude for Amelia, she will pose nude for him. That simple encounter changes both of their lives.
Lady Amelia returns to England and can’t quite remember why she wanted it so badly. She is given the cute direct. It appears the scandal is not forgotten. But then, a duke requests that she dance with him. Yes, the Duke of Ripon, who has returned early, not able to forget his encounters with Amelia. A duke taking notice should help her social standing, surely. They have both made an impression on the other. The duke is tall and handsome, not to mention, a duke. Amelia is beautiful, talented, and begging to be loved. This was an extremely sensual story, from almost the first page. It is more than a simple romance, but more the coming together of two souls. It was an entrancing story and an excellent beginning.

Lady Amelia and her family were living in Italy and had been for the last year due to a scandal at Eton caused by her sister. Their parents were away for a couple of years and she was hoping to restore respectability back to her family in London by the time her parents came home.
Tristan, Duke of Ripon is enjoying his life style in Italy and has another six months left before he had to go home to London to take over his estate. His mother had agreed to look after it for five years for him while he moved to the continent to find himself.
He loved the Italian life style and had a passion to sculpture, Amelia had a passion for painting and when they met, she thought him an Ox, rude, overbearing and was definitely aware of him. Having won the grand prize at a local ball, she realised that Tristan would be the person who would do the bust and that she had to sit for him.
Tristan after looking at some of her work realised that some of her more honest work was amazing and that she really was a talented artist but she was lacking one thing in experience and that was to paint a nude! Whilst sitting for him, he revealed that he would love to do a naked sculpture of her and it was agreed they would both model naked for each other for their chosen art.
Fun, passionate and steamy read. Both having their own opinions and Tristan as a Duke would never fall for anyone or run after them!
Enjoy, you’ll love this story, a page turner which I couldn’t put down.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
