This book was just as good as the others before it, Molly Black just has a type of writing that keeps me intrigued from start to finish and her writing does excite me and I never guess the killer right which is a great thing because it keeps me on my toes and keeps me guessing. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.
I’m usually a positive reviewer type person because my brain enjoys most anything I read. I’m sorry to say, I won’t be able to finish the series. I almost vacated after the 2nd book but decided to give the 3rd one a try. It mirrors the 1st and 2nd with the same of everything and I mean pretty much everything other than the type of serial killer and murder that takes place.
I did learn a valuable lesson and one that was costly. Never will I ever buy a whole series at once. Use the 1st and 2nd books as test runs.
Lead was dumb as a rock and the plot totally predictable. Follow false leads for2/3 of the story. Figure out whodunit and go after them alone. Get knifed/slugged/knocked in the head. Wake up tied to chair. Etc.etc. Ad nauseum.
SPOILER I really liked the first 2 books in the series. Now not so much. This book left me saying "really, again" too many times. Probably won't continue the series.
Our heroine is a flawed and annoying and so is the writing.
Take away the words “pooling”, “sweat” and Taylor’s constant repetitive ruminating….Must Taylor always “burst into the room”? The book is full of reused descriptive phrases and even a typo or two! The plots follow the same formula in each book. Why is the FBI even involved in what should be a local police case? Please give this woman a friend and stop walling everything inside and trying to be so tough when she could open up her emotions at least when she is by herself. Yet I keep on reading because I want to know what happens with the missing sister.
Taylor has to adapt to several things: a new partner, another problematic case where the killer calls attention to fake people/things, her divorce from Ben, and a marriage that she now believes was fake too. A good plot, full of insights that might apply to anyone's life, and a story that certainly provides entertainment! I received a free copy of this book from the author and this is my unbiased review.
