Billionaires of Manhattan #7

Butt-dialing the Billionaire

Rate this book
It was just some silly fun. A goofy imitation of the faceless mega-billionaire who owns our faceless international mega-corporation.

Yes there was laughter–screams of it.

How was I to know that Dave from accounting had sat on the speakerphone, butt-dialing said mega-billionaire? Or that he’d listen to me make fun of him for ten straight minutes.

Ummm…he could’ve announced himself!

They say he’s a notorious rake. A paparazzi-punching scoundrel. An international jet-set bad boy.

And now I hear he’s determined to track down the jokester. Me.

Eep!

But we’re tight like family in this office—no way will my co-workers rat me out, in spite of the pressure from the top. Plus, who brings the cookies? Moi!

Things die down after a few months, and I’m pretty sure I’m safe.

Thank goodness, because I have my hands full with our lazy, arrogant new office gopher. He has the worst work ethic I’ve ever seen—how did he even get hired? He doesn’t know how to work a vending machine, and he’s baffled when we send around a card to be signed for somebody’s birthday. It’s as if he’s never set foot in a place of business in his life.

But little by little, we're drawing closer. He's funny. Sexy. Wicked. Still, he’s all wrong for me. I like respectable men with a work ethic.

Also, I can’t shake the feeling that he’s hiding something…

I'm a big fan of the series, but this particular installment did absolutely nothing for me. One of the best parts about the series is that it's easy to pick up the books in any order and know that you're in for a super lighthearted, playful read with unpredictable moments and plenty of heat. Unfortunately, the premise behind this one is a head-scratcher, and the characters are not very likable - especially the hero. I actually struggle to call him a hero, he was so unappealing. Imagine trying to swoon for a lazy, emotionally stunted billionaire with zero work ethic or empathy for others, who doesn't know how to pack a lunch, thinks it's funny to disguise his appearance with 90s-style bleached tips and a giant fake mole, and who blackmails the heroine into kissing him. It's... a lot. Things do (somewhat) improve later on, but the story takes its sweet time getting there, and it had already lost me by that point.

The story follows Jaxon, a former racecar driver whose parents passed away recently. He's not at all distraught about the situation, but he does want to burn their legacy to the ground. So when he accidentally overhears one of his new employees giving a very unflattering impression of him, Jaxon is furious. He decides to go undercover (horrible disguise and all) at the business, and pose as a new employee - all in an attempt to figure out who mocked him. It's there that Jaxon meets Jada, a rule-follower who gives him a hard time about his laziness and disinterest in work. Jada's co-workers are her found family, and she doesn't understand why Jaxon has so little respect for them. As the two clash in the workplace, they somehow become closer. But Jaxon is keeping a secret, and their budding relationship may not survive the fallout.

I was really looking forward to this, which is perhaps why I was so disappointed by the storyline... though I'm definitely not the only reader who struggled to connect with Jaxon. There's so little to like about him that it's difficult to become invested in the romance. He lost me completely when he blackmailed Jada into kissing him, and I ended up speed reading to the end after that. I just didn't care anymore. I've loved, loved other books in the series, so I was surprised by how little this one worked for me. It does have the same offbeat humor, low angst feel, and unique vibes, but that doesn't make up for unlikable, unrelatable characters and a nonsensical story. Plus, certain things about the plot were definite turnoffs, and certain other things did not make sense. Anyways... this could've been really fun and quirky like other books in the series, but things just kept falling flat for me. There's plenty of potential within the story, but I lost my emotional investment in the first half - I would've DNF'd this for sure if I didn't have so much love for the series. I was excited to receive an early copy (and am voluntarily leaving a review), but this was not a successful read for me.

Butt Dialing the Billionaire is a light and fluffy rom com about Jada, a hardworking, sassy, and quirky designer at a failing company, and Jaxon, an ex-F1 racer bay boy billionaire who inherits Jada’s company. After accidentally butt dialing Jaxon, Jada and her team are sworn to secrecy so she won’t get fired. Jaxon promises himself to find the butt dialer and get his revenge for making him look dumb. Jaxon gets an awful 90s makeover and starts working at the company.

This book is slow-burn work place romance with hidden identity/under cover boss vibes. Jada and Jaxon form a connection slowly, but not before absolutely hating each other at first.

Read this if you like work place romances, loads of funny side characters, and a slow burn that you can’t wait to finally erupt.

I have to say that the plot and romance development were a little slow. I also didn’t love how Jaxon basically forced her to kiss him, and then they laughed about it. Multiple times. I kinda wish things developed a bit more organically, especially since they hated each other in the beginning.

Thank you to Valentine PR and Annika Martin for this arc! It comes out on October 11th!

4.9 stars (I'm withholding a tenth just because it's not perfect, but I love it sooooo much)

This is how you write quirky and get away with it.

Here's the deal. Annika Martin writes these fantastical contemporary romances. We're up to seven friends who have all ended up with billionaires. Don't go into this book thinking you're getting realism. This is pure, sweet, hilarious escapism with a quirky heroine and the grumpy billionaire with a heart of gold who learns his lesson.

I don't know how she does it, but in this one, we get both this light and fun romp of a comedy, along with some real character growth. This dude is such a sweetheart, softie but has been beaten down through time and acts out. I LOVE that we get to see him be an undercover boss to find out who the butt-dialer was and he is CLUELESS about the basic ways of life.

This was just pure fun and I enjoyed it soooo much.

No OW/OM. Their love story is fairly straight-forward with a stupid 3rd act breakup because he's got issues. This dude needs therapy, and if this were a more realistic type of book, I would be demanding that. But it's not, and I can forgive the small imperfections for the sake of the good feelings I'm left with.

Sure, the situations are ridiculous, but it's a pretty low-stress read that is super satisfying. I’ll re-read it for sure as one of my favorites from this series.

DNF @ 26%. I have really loved the rest of this series, which begs the question, “Did AM fall, hit her head, and write this in a state of semi-consciousness?” The hero was an unlikeable car crash of a human being. No way was he ever going to become even mildly interesting from this starting place. I get AM likes to write zany characters, but these two weren’t zany, she was weird, and he was plain awful. So disappointing, I was really looking forward to this one.

There are several aspects of this series that I've really enjoyed in the books I've read so far and they're all in this book too - lots of humor and fun, found family, supportive female relationships, and character growth. Is it realistic that a group of female friends would each find and fall in love with a billionaire? Unlikely, but suspend a bit of disbelief and just laugh through the ride. Jaxon (H) is a jerk at first and he embraces this persona, living up to people's poor expectations. He's inherited his parents' businesses, except he wants nothing to do with them because his parents were truly awful people. Jada (h) works for one of these businesses as a sports apparel designer and is trying desperately to save it because it's her family and she loves what she does. After Jaxon is forced to make a corporation wide speech, Jada mocks him without realizing that he can overhear, and Jaxon is determined to unmask the butt-dialer and make them pay. Written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama and neither were virgins (not much info given).

The undercover boss assignment that Jaxon undertakes is hilarious. It was funny that he found it freeing and entertaining, also how completely unprepared he was for the real world. He's a billionaire who's never purchased shoes from an actual store before, for example. But even though he's not the best worker at first, and he rubs Jada completely wrong, this work family embraces him and Jaxon gets a giant helping of acceptance, support, and caring. Jada was reluctantly attracted to him at first because his attitude reminds her of her past with her own complicated family. But in her efforts to win him over to their family and get him involved, attraction and chemistry take over for them, forming a slow burn that does get steamy.

There is a villain in this story, Bert, the CEO of the company (although Jaxon's parents are also villains off page since they're deceased when the book begins). Despite Bert running amok and ruining the design team's work, there are plans to save the company and their work family. Jada and Jaxon also start falling love and really building their relationship and then Jaxon hit some snags. His growth was so wonderful, but I think the author did an excellent job of showing his uncertainties along the way with how he was feeling being a different person than he was used to. When the third act drama hit, while I wasn't thrilled with it, I expected it.

The side characters in this story are wonderful. Jada has her work family and her friend family. Jaxon has a cousin who genuinely cares and a valet/assistant who's also concerned for him. A prior nanny also has a role to play and I did like the background she added for Jaxon, but I didn't love the character device as much. There are so many great details that add to the story that I did love though like a cactus with its own Instagram, Jaxon's love of driving, a work hat, and a lot more.

How everything came together at the end and resolved did feel kind of rushed to me. Combined with how the story ends in a HFN, I did wish that there was a more extended epilogue. The epilogue was cute and shows them happy together and with updates on the company though.

I'm also adding a link to a friend's review because she's spot on https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I was really impatient to get my hands on this ARC because I love this series so so so so much and it was not for nothing after reading this book, it was justified.

Coming back to NYC and this galpal group is like coming back home and was eagerly awaiting the cameos of some of my favorite characters and they did not disappoint.

Freaking Jaxon. I loved his character and his backstory tugged at my heartstrings and the new characters that he brought along. I loved that we got a lot of chapters from his POV because he is a new character and that was helpful to get a glimpse of his motivations and actions.

JADA. MY BABY GIRL. I’m so excited to finally get her POV and to see her as a main and I loved it. I loved the added backstory and how she fits in with the other colorful characters of the group.

With nods and hidden gems with old characters, this book is not one that you want to miss. This book has it all with laughs, heat, and romance. I want more of this series, please. Well done, Annika and congratulations!

Thank you to @annikamartinauthor and @valentinepr_ for an ARC copy of the book for review.

No author makes me snort-laugh as consistently as Annika Martin. As in, I have never read a book by her and which I didn't laugh out loud multiple times. And, just so you know, I'm not a laugh out loud while reading person...at all.

𝗕𝗨𝗧𝗧-𝗗𝗜𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗜𝗥𝗘 is hilarious, steamy, swoony, perfection! Jack and Jada are the perfect enemies-to-lovers with all of the sharp verbal sparring, assholey nicknames, and sexual tension. I fell in love with Jada's entire kooky work family and their sad adopted cactus.

One thing that this author absolutely rocks at is writing characters who grow during the course of the book without completely altering who they were. Jack spends the entirety of the book being a vindictive asshole, but instead of changing into a completely new person, the reader gets to understand him better and love him. THAT is freaking amazing storytelling.

And the dialogue in this book and the others in the series just kills me. It is PERFECTION. It's funny and quirky and real.

I freaking love 𝗕𝗨𝗧𝗧-𝗗𝗜𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗜𝗥𝗘. It is my new favorite in this entire series! It absolutely succeeds as a stand-alone, so you can read this immediately and you really SHOULD. Just do it.

𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠 𝗟𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟: Rated R / 1-4 descriptive sex scenes, may have harsh language.
𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗦: brief mention of childhood physical abuse, past death of parent
𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗟𝗦: 2/5 - A bit of drama, but still a pretty light read.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Well, this is a bit awkward but this was dreadful, nothing like the rest of this excellent series.

The H is lazy, arrogant and entitled. There’s nothing to admire in him, he’s a billionaire by dint of his birth, it’s nothing he’s achieved. Meanwhile the h was kind of obsessed with her colleagues. I mean, it’s good if you like the people you work with but you’re there to earn to live, they’re not actually your family, get a grip.

And the plot was tstl. This series sometimes takes a flight of fancy, but this didn’t make any sense.

The rest of this series have been witty with some fantastic tension leading to superb smut so read those first, don’t judge the series on this anomaly.

My first by Annika Martin and even though it was book seven in her Billionaires of Manhattan series, it definitely worked just fine as a standalone. Great on audio, this was a hilarious (and surprisingly VERY steamy) workplace romcom. 10/10 recommend!!

This story is ridiculous but oh so entertaining. This whole series is unrealistic but I just suspend my disbelief and enjoy the ride. I was thoroughly entertained with Jaxson's complete obliviousness on how the world works for normal people. His logic and antics had me cackling. These books are a fun fantasy escape and they read like a blockbuster romcom. Pure entertainment.

I really wanted to DNF this book, but I told myself to get through it for the sake of reviewing it for the agency that sent it to me.

I don't want to make this review too long as it really isn't going to be pleasant.

To start off, within the first two chapters of this book, I already hated Jaxon, the male love interest. He, like most of the characters in this book, are unlikable. Jaxon is extremely unlikable. This obviously made finishing the book difficult, as well as connecting with him.

I couldn't form much of a connection with Jada, either. The way she was described didn't seem real. Her style and the whole "pencil in her bun" thing seemed like she came out of an early 00's movie. It just didn't sit well with me.

The whole plot and pacing was quite ridiculous and unentertaining. All the dialogue seemed like these characters were Millennials or Gen X's attempting to speak how they think Gen Z's would but failing miserably. Clearly, this book was just not for me.

2.5 stars rounded up to 3

I'm sure I'll forget about this book in a few days but it was fun while reading it.

The characters are sweet and likable and although the plot is simple, it is a nice pastime.

*********************************************

Jaxon inherits his parents' business when they both die. They never had a good relationship and he is a rebel due to their loveless upbringing. He is the famous bad boy most people hate.

*********************************************

Jaxon is forced to give a ridiculous speech on his first day and he hears somebody mocking that awful speech when their microphone is accidently turned on. He decides to find this person and goes undercover within his own company for that reason.

The way he has changed his appearance so that no one recognizes him is hilarious. And the way he reacts to orders is also really funny because he is used to giving orders. Also, because he has led a rich boy's life, he is not familiar with certain things average people do and that makes some situations even funnier.

*********************************************

Jada is a very sweet woman. She is smart and loyal. And in the end, Jada is the one who finds the real Jaxon (the one who was longing for love and attention) under his hard and uncaring shell.

*********************************************

There are a lot of workplace problems and some secrets etc going on in the background and the book could have been more fun without all that work stuff. Still, it was OK and I had my fun with it, anyways.

Recommended when you are in the mood for a light and fun read.

Some QUOTES from the book...

“What’s wrong with you?”
“What’s wrong with me…it’s a pretty long list, to be honest,” I say. “The specifics would vary depending on who you talk to.”
Jada’s scowl heats up. “Excuse me?”
I cross my legs and adopt a relaxed posture, but really, I didn’t expect this experience to be so enlivening. “The nature of the things wrong with me would definitely vary from person to person as well, but I’m sure there’d be overlap.”
“You think you’re funny?”
God, those hot, frowning lips. She’s nobody I’d ever be with, but it doesn’t matter—the hot frown is getting me deep down. It’s just how fiery she is with all of that bossy control mania. I want to stir and stir and stir those embers until they go full flame, and then I’d bask in her heat.

***

“Fine,” Renata says. “I’ll train him on the system and find out where he worked before, and then you wanna know what else I’m gonna do? Makeover. I’m gonna give him a makeover. I know a Tom Hardy in the rough when I see one and I’m gonna bring it all out, and then maybe I’ll reap the rewards.”
I frown. “Why not just let him be? This is the personal style he’s chosen.”
“But he could actually look good.”
“What would the world be if you homogenized everyone?”
“I’m not gonna homogenize him, I’m gonna hotify him,” Renata says.
It doesn’t sit right with me. I want to argue with her, but what do I care?

***

I care about finding the butt-dialer, but at the moment, I care more about the outrageousness of this woman trying to get everyone in the universe under her thumb.

I watch her all the way. It’s wrong to want her, but I want her with a ferocious hunger I’ve never felt before.

***

Jada starts up the song-chant: “Go Keeeeeeith! Go Keeeeeeith!”
I look up to find her snapping her fingers, hands raised level with her ears, and she’s gazing over at me, happily chanting, “Go Keeeeeeeeeith! Go Keeeeeeeith!”

It comes to me with some surprise that she thinks she’s cracked the code of how to cause me maximum possible annoyance. And she’s going for it.

***

And right then, this strange thought crosses my mind: I’m not alone anymore.
But then this little voice wonders if it can last. The little voice wonders if having people is maybe only for other people. And what happens when this inevitably goes away?
I close my eyes and push the questions out of my mind.

***
I smile at her and tell her that nothing’s wrong. She snuggles back against me.
Nothing’s wrong. But that’s the problem.
Nobody ever warned me that happiness is a kind of hell, because it could vanish in an instant.
How do normal people endure this? How does a normal person let their heart be out there, unprotected? How does a person bear loving when it could all be lost?

***

Some nights we stay up way too late talking. There’s always something more to say, a new topic we haven’t covered.
Or else sex.
Or else talking about how great the sex was after the sex. Or just how lucky we are to have found each other.
In short, we’re disgustingly into each other.

He actually asked me the other day if things were going too well. Like if things were suspiciously too good. “Don’t you worry?” he asked.
He was serious. It’s the messed-up way he was brought up. Happiness as part of a transaction. Good things always came with a cost for Jack.

* Note: Most Eligible Billionaire is my favorite in this series. It is way more fun, indeed...

The story was really good. A billionaire goes undercover within it's own company to find the person that mock him, but in the process of discovering it, he becomes a better person and most importantly, falls in love.

The scenes between Jack and Jada were really good and there was enough romance and smut within the story. But the story it's what bothered me. It dragged itself too long and for the last 50 pages suddenly started going fast. I had the feeling that everything got unfolded just in a matter of seconds.

Jada, the quirky actress turned designer is trying to save her job and work family from the new owner an entitled jerk.

On the first day of him addressing the employees someone accidentally switches on the unmute button while Jada was imitating him.

Jackson decides to find the person by impersonating as a lazy worker in the company. The book follows how Jack and Jada fall in love with his extreme pessimistic devil may care attitude and her sunny disposition.

It was really entertaining there is very obvious changes in Annika Martin as a writer through the ages. I love series, would love to see some marriages or engagements or anything fun like that in the next book.

Is there gonna be a book on Antonio and Kelsey, make the girl a billionaire for a change. ❤️❤️❤️

Annika Martin delivers another fantastic addition to the Billionaires of Manhattan series. Butt-dialing the Billionaire is fun and entertaining frenemies-to-lovers story that will make readers laugh and swoon.

“ ‘Can you be more of a jerk?’

‘Is that a request?’ ”

The banter between Jaxon and Jada took center stage in this book and I loved all of their interactions. I really enjoyed the way they challenged each other. This author always writes such unique character traits with her MCs, and in this case they played off of each other really well. Their antics were fun and their back and forth banter was hilarious. Despite their differences there was great chemistry between them that got stronger as the story went on. I also really liked they way they peeled back each other’s layers and got an in-depth look at who they really were beneath the surface.

“ It’s wrong to want her, but I want her with a ferocious hunger I’ve never felt before.”

This was a well rounded story that I thoroughly enjoyed. I loved the camaraderie of the office staff and the family that they created with each other. It was great seeing some of the characters from previous books show up as well. This is one series that I hope we keep getting more and more of. Each story is individually unique and the characters are all so lovable. I hope we will be getting more of this fabulous series.

Yay, it's Jada's turn for an HEA! I love this series so much, and this one is a contender for the top spot. I laughed so hard that I had to put my ereader down so I wouldn't drop it. For one thing, Jada lets her sass out, and she is hilarious. For another, Jaxon is such a fish out of water that I never knew what was coming next. His lunches -- LOL. Also, Jada's coworkers are adorably sincere and funny, and they really want to help Jaxon fit in while he is trying to not fit in. All of it comes together for wiping-tears-and-wheezing laughs. I can't wait to grab the audiobook of this because it will be even more fun to listen to the craziness.
Underneath the humor, Jada and her coworkers are facing the closure of her company due to the efforts of an excruiatingly bad boss. They are fighting a losing battle to save their work family. For his part, Jaxon is a fish out of water in a more serious way because he is carrying tough baggage from his childhood. He has no idea how family or friendship should work. I was really pulling for everyone to get what they deserved by the end of the book.
Jada and Jaxon have a ridiculous amount of chemistry that pulls them together even when they don't want it to. It sizzles through the whole story. But Jada also manges to reach Jaxon on an emotional level, and that caused me a few tears of a different kind. They end up with a beautiful relationship.
In short, this book took everything I loved about this series and piled on more until it became my new favorite. I will definitely be rereading it.

Jaxon Henningsly is the wealthy playboy, race car driving son of uber-successful parents. When his parents die suddenly, he doesn’t mourn their loss (he hadn’t spoken to them in years) and hates that he’s now the heir to their empire. Although he just wants to dump it all, his parents’ company man asks Jaxon to read a prepared speech so that the stocks don’t plummet.

Jada Herberger is the senior designer at SportyGoCo. The once great company was bought out by Jaxon’s family company, which installed a new CEO who Is running it into the ground. Jada is pushed over the edge when they have to stop production on their newest design to listen to Jaxon’s speech. After the call, she makes fun of Jaxon, but unbeknownst to Jada, her coworker sits on the phone, accidentally calling him back, and he hears it all. Now Jaxon is obsessed with finding the butt-dialer and destroying her.

Butt-Dialing the Billionaire was a slow start for me, but in the end, I was blown away. From the start, I hated Jaxon so much I couldn’t see anyway I would like him. Plain and simple: Jaxon is an ass. He goes undercover at SportyGoCo to ferret out the woman who mocked him. He’s cruel, dismissive, and horrible. Jada and the crew write off his lack of basic employee skills and workplace knowledge, assuming he is from some backwater European country, which was completely annoying, as these characters are not stupid and should have been able to put two and two together.

On the other hand, I loved Jada from the get go. She is a ball of positive energy who never gives up on anyone, most especially Jack. She isn’t tarnished by all the roadblocks and negative energy. She works hard and loves fiercely.

The pair fight a mutual attraction from the start. However, Jaxon’s sexual banter bothered me. It is graphic and constituted sexual harassment. When he figures out Jada is the butt-dialer, he uses that knowledge to get a kiss. It’s not okay that she wants to kiss him. His power over her and her life makes the whole thing cringy. However, once she acknowledges what is happening, and in fact enjoys the play, I loved watching the pair come together for real.

The author’s quirky sense of humor, gregarious characters, and zany writing style won me over! I’ve always loved Ms. Martin’s work, but I honestly didn’t think I’d end up loving Jaxon, weeping for him. I adore that the author didn’t draw out the ruse, especially after Jada figures out who Jack really is.

Was Butt-Dialing the Billionaire perfect? No. But I was fully invested in the couple and their HEA. The plot is constantly moving, bringing a powerful energy to the story and romance, making this a great story in the end.

My Rating: B+

4 🌟 Ohmygod this book is so funny ! i think it’s the most hilarious book i’ve ever read so far! It got me giggling and cackling at 2 am.

So Butt-dialing the billionaire is about Jada, a sassy, quirky designer at SportyGoCo, which is failing company owned by Jaxon, a former ex-F1 driver. During a calling meeting, Jada accidentally butt-dialed her new boss without knowing. Jaxon, feeling embarrassed, decided to go undercover and pretended to become a worker at the company to find out who the butt dialer is.

I love the dynamic between Jada and Jaxon from hating each other to slowly building their relationship to more. This is such an easy, cute heart warming romance ! There’s so much more to Jaxon, he likes to be seen as the villain in every story but he has a big heart. Jada is just a quirky, funny and always positive girl and i thought they really complement each other.

If you like a quick, easy read, with a family found trope, a bit of spice, then this is perfect for you !

It was an okay read for me. I've read other books by Martin and they far surpass this one in romance and humor. I found the characters juvenile and unconvincing. The grump of the story has to keep saying he is a bad guy. There is no backstory, evidence or incident for that matter to support it. The entire romance is more lust. The humor is passable. This could have been so much better but the story leaves you wanting for more. 87% into it I just couldn't take it anymore. I did not finish this.

I loved the premise of this one but struggled with the execution.

A good romantic comedy blends the romance and the comedy. Unfortunately this one didn't work for me and the zaniness was overpowering. I wasn't ever able to feel invested in the story.

I'm not able to recommend this title.

This story was HILARIOUS!!! These male characters in this interconnected series is just so darn grumpy, lovable and just so ridiculously funny. This is Jada’s story, a hardworking designer working for SportGoCo, a company in the Garment District that absolutely loves her work family but lately it’s been an absolute nightmare with the new CEO taking over. Something is up, but she isn’t sure what it is.

Jaxon, international heir to huge companies that his parents were in charge of but have also died recently. He was not really a member of these companies but now is. Including SportGoCo. On the day he makes a speech to one of the companies, he overhears someone mocking “him”, and boy he is highly annoyed. He’s going to find out and absolutely destroy this person. LOL it’s just so ridiculous, I love it.

There is just so many funny scenes, the way he dresses to blend in, the interactions, Keith, Dr. Tonio, Arnold, the lunches. A hilarious, fun, fluffy, sweet, sexy, so heartwarming. Love seeing the girls from the previous books. Love love loved reading this, so much giggling.

This book had me smiling and laughing from the start! Jack and Jada had such great chemistry and such big hearts. His was hidden away and hers on display for everyone to see. Such opposites, it didn’t seem like they would fit, but they were destined to have those special moments, that they build on, and then before they know it, they are together! It has its’ bumps though, and those just about broke me (the hat, oh wow, that HAT!!!). In true billionaire style though, Jack swoops in and saves the day, making all his lady loves dreams come true <3

DNF I thought this would be fun but he’s a horrible loser and I can’t go on. There’s no substance to the romance at all and he’s not likable in the slightest. Enemies to lovers can be cute but why is he MY enemy now.

The thing is I love a lie and mistaken/false identity premise, but sexual coercion blackmail and a petty motivation from a man baby were supposed to root for ain’t it. And Jada comes off nonsensical for buying into it cuz there is nothing at all attractive about a man who acts like he does and disrespects your work and workplace at the age of 35! Her claiming to care so much about her work family and taking pride in her work is diametrically opposed to finding that bum attractive as his very nature was undermining everything.

Also her family + found family spiels felt trite and lip service rather than shown to us which character interactions and substance. Like we GET it. Plus it’s a red flag at a workplace tbh. And he’s just insufferable. The goofy disconnected loser shtick wore off quick; usually a brooding nature or a false happy go lucky thing works with them still having purpose. He has no motivation at all, not even a motivation to have no motivation. Like boring!!! I still can’t believe he’s supposed to be in his 30s. I thought he was like 25 and that was pushing it considering how immature he was.
