I love reading about two pure but injured souls coming together. And the way they realized their love for each other was beautiful. The scenes are so well drawn that they make you feel. The angst was shown really well,so good that even a side character will make you fall for them and make your heart hurt too. The hardwork of the author was evident throughout the first 5 chapters. It's only that rush to tie up everything in the 6th chapter that makes me a bid sad.
The main characters are really beautiful, drawing or character wise. They are flawed in their own ways and the ability of them to take accountability and responsibility is commendable. The smut wasn't thrown at your face out of nowhere what is something I really cherish. The plot isn't extraordinary, but for me this story was really special and I enjoyed it a lot!
This is a really strong and emotional one-shot manga about the reunion of childhood friends after 10 years. Sirius doesn't remember Ombra, but Ombra remembers Sirius with a hatred that's kept him going all this time; he blames Sirius for the death of his family and plans to kill him. As they spend time together, their friendship resumes and yet again blossoms into love, while Ombra struggles with his quest for revenge. The truth comes out of course, and it's done very well, as it features not just romance, but a very life-affirming realization.
Honestly, picked this up because the art reminds me of Damen and Laurent from Captive Prince.
The story follows childhood friends, turn enemies turn lovers.
A story of conflicting feelings and loneliness and love.
I did have mix feelings about Muuto… like yes he loves the stars, and then we find out the the boys were named after stars? And I’m thinking that maybe the stars mean something else ?
I feel very mixed between giving this a 3 or 4 star because it does a lot of things decently but nothing really well all-around. It's kind of just a frustrating graphic novel, but generally if you want boys love that reads like a more classic European fairy tale, this does that pretty well.
I'm a bit mixed on the art: I'm not a big fan of how Ombra is drawn, and Sirius himself is kind of boring. The extras outside of Mut aren't interesting, either. The mangaka is very good at drawing hands, but some of the pose work is very confusing, and body sizes and expressions are often kind of strange.
I'm reading a translation, so maybe this book is a victim of bad translation, which wouldn't surprise me, given Tokyopop owns the English license. That being said, the writing is kind of dull and meandering. The premise is fun, but it doesn't deliver enough on what it's trying to explain. I would have liked more about how the leads fell in love, in particular, and I felt Wil's evolution was a bit weird. I think a good comparison is "The Genius Puppeteer Loves the Holy Knight Fiercely" by Hatoba Kogarashi, which similarly has some less than great art and wonky writing issues with some forced proximity in a fantasy setting, but makes the whole thing work a lot better.
Despite the difficult topics it addresses, it just feels too soft. And if that's for you, that's great. Unfortunately I found it a bit bland.
The ending felt a bit rushed. And I don’t like how there’s a time skip during which all the loose ends are conveniently tied up - I hate it when books do that, especially if it’s something as big as shaking up a well established monarchy.
Actually, come to think of it, all the really interesting details were a bit like that - things that happened off screen or were barely explained. The focus was obviously the romance, and anything that didn’t directly tie into that wasn’t given much consideration except as background noise. Which is a shame, because there was some real potential for an interesting story here.
And of course we have the standard sexual assault scene, common in far too many BL manga. It’s dressed up here as a medical necessity due to accidental dosing with an aphrodisiac, but I’m not buying that and no one else should either. I’d have taken more stars off for that one scene, but honestly the artwork is beautiful so it gets points for that.
I really like the art style and the character designs.
I didn't like how .
Also, it rubbed me the wrong way how .
There's a rapey moment which really felt yikes even if it's done by a character who wants to kill the other character... so the person already failed the moral check, I guess.
*4.5* Thought this was such a wonderful story. One reviewer mentioned the cover brought Captive Prince vibes and I have to agree.
Revenge plot Enemies to lovers Childhood friends Beautiful art style Heartfelt Graphic intimacy HEA
The premise:
Ombra is a rough type who lives alone in the mountains. One day a man asks him for help; prince Sirius, the son of the king and his concubine.
It's been ten years since the king razed Ombra's village to the ground, killing his parents and anyone he's ever loved. Now he's consumed by emotions, conflicted by his desire for revenge and perhaps something else.
Meanwhile Sirius, who can’t remember his past, doesn’t recognize Ombra’s internal struggle, only aware of his growing feelings for the man.
There's a lot of history and uncertainty to unpack in this series, but of course it wouldn't be a romance without some version of a happy ending. Sirius is a young prince who everyone thinks has the world because of his innocence and smile. Ombra is a bit of a wild man and a loner, who seems to have an unusual knowledge of herbalism thanks to his parents. It is a bit surprising that Sirius doesn't recognize Ombra sooner, though the pieces fall into place very quickly once he's told of the village's fate. Ombra, on the other hand, has more than his fare share of rage to work through. There are more than a few close calls here and there, but the ending side stories are pure gold - Snow White indeed.

I think I am aging out of enjoying the "cute, innocent, naive uke type main character." If that's your jam then you'll really like this manga. It's a one sided enemies to lovers story.
The best thing about this manga is the art. It's breathtaking. The angry, revenge seeking seme character is just... *chef's kiss.* His design is incredible. I loved his anger, but I feel like it just fizzled out too quickly.
One shot mangas sometimes struggle with pacing because they have to cram a whole story arc into a limited space. I definitely felt the rush in this story.
Overall, a pretty enjoyable read, but not one I feel like I need to read again.
This is not my usual kind of book, but I liked it. Enough to read it twice.
This friends-to-enemies-to-lovers book about the prince and the woodsman is really enjoyable. The prince is all clumsy when he comes to live with woodsman, but he determined to try. Meanwhile the woodsman is playing him, waiting for his opportunity to humiliate and kill him. Their reunion is hot (spicy) and heartfelt.
The characters are illustrated in a really lovign manner where their emotions in each scene are communicated clearly.
More of a 3.5 star rating; I really like how complex this story was and how things didn’t feel too clustered or rushed despite this being a one-shot. Sirius and Ombra’s journey throughout the story was very interesting and lovely to see play out. Although, I do wish there was a 2nd volume to this, that way a bit more information can be shown about the dynamic of Sirius’s parents over time and/or Sirius’s time with Ombra when both boys were children.
While the art is very nice and the conceit is interesting, the fact they only gave about five pages to the backstory which is essentially the most interesting facet of the book in favor of rehashing the same scene (Sirius: my heart is fluttering!/Ombra: *is angry in the woods*) made the characters feel pretty flat. No real backstory for Mut either... Overall, pretty threadbare even for a one volume.
Another one shot I picked up for the art style. Classic Childhood friends to enemies to lovers. I thought they worked in the background story well for a one shot. I have difficulty liking Mut (the astronomer) he seemed out of place to me in the story even though he’s the driving force behind the main protags ‘adventure’ to begin with. Not sure - not sure just something off about him. Guess you’ll have to read it and find out.
The art was pretty as expected, the story felt a little cheesy tbh but I still liked it. I felt for Ombra and am glad that he was able to let go of his past and move on. Mut as an important character made no sense to me, he wasn’t in the story enough for the reader to care about him, so Sirius not going with Ombra at the end in order to take care of Mut was annoying instead of touching, which I’m guessing is how we were supposed to feel. Idk, it was nice though.
Man this story is just interesting but at the same time, it’s quite dark knowing the seme wants to kill the uke because of his parents death. Still the art is so gorgeous like the author did mighty fine art here!
Compare to the other manga that I read by this author, this is a million times better in terms of romance and plot. This was so wrong but good…. Like, the dude tried to kill you and stuff happened and it was right up my alley for whatever reason.
I chose to read this one knowing nothing about it, but the cover looked nice.
The world building was pretty average, the plot was basic but enjoyable, but the characters were great.
I borrowed this from my local library and it didn't have any age restrictions, so I was not expecting the sexual content, which came as an unpleasant surprise. Not only was there sudden sexual content, but it was non-consensual the first time. Other than those couple of scenes this was actually quite a nice love-hate relationship.
The art was really well drawn. In particular they did a great job at showing emotions.
Overall this was a good story, but I have to drop a star for the non-consensual sexual content.
I enjoyed the story and the secret revenge plot turned love story. I really liked Sirius as a character as well as Ombre. However, the pacing was a bit all over the place. All in all I do find I enjoy this mangaka's work.
