Driven to rekindle her relationship with her ailing grandfather, Amelia Scott returns to her childhood home. However, her unyielding grandfather is determined to control her future and poses an ultimatum. Marry and inherit the iconic Scott Hotel or return to New York penniless. Amelia is determined to stay, and formulates a plan to ensure proprietorship of her last connection to family. But love is not a part of the deal. She can’t risk another man having control of her.
Ex-convict, now town carpenter, Micah Kelly struggles to raise his deceased sister’s children. When Amelia proposes marriage without love as the answer to both of their problems, he knows better than to say yes. While partnering with his childhood friend may yield an answer to his monetary challenges, he cannot agree to a marriage in name only. His heart is already involved, and that always leads to trouble.
Circumstances put them together, and while they struggle within their new marriage, outside forces are determined to snatch the Scott Hotel from them. Even if it means killing them.
Control is not something to give up. In Amelia’s case, she doesn’t want any man to control her life. That means her grandfather and any other man interested in pursuing her. Unfortunately, a few men think they can run her life, but they’re finding out she’s a tough gal and can stand up for herself. This new story by Lucette Nel is a delightful tale with a couple of twists and turns. It’s a story about a marriage of convenience, and a story with a bit of mystery thrown in. It’s also a sweet story of love blooming between two people who fight it all the way. I loved all the fun moments between many of the characters. The story flowed smoothly, and it was easy to picture the town and the era it was set in. There were also a few scary parts where it seemed bad things were never going to stop, and the bad guy was going to win. I’m one who loves to figure out who the bad guy is and boy, was I taken on a ride. There were times I thought it was one guy and then switched and thought it was another. Great suspenseful writing! Lucette Nel is a fun author to read. She brings life and sweetness to her stories. I enjoy her style of writing. She weaves intriguing stories that will warm your heart and captivate your soul, with a touch of suspense and intrigue. I totally enjoyed reading this book. I received this book from the publisher for an honest review. All opinions are my own. I highly recommend this book.
I do enjoy this author’s work a lot. And I do enjoy the marriage of convenience trope. This one is done well with two kids and a mystery thrown in. And I had no clue who the culprit was! Amelia Scott and Micah Kelly were made for each other. Very nicely done. My thanks to the author for a copy of this book. The opinion here is my own.
Lucette Nel weaves a unique and engaging marriage of convenience story. Both Micah and Amelia are desperate to have some control over their lives and futures. When Amelia's grandfather offers an ultimatum of marriage or return to New York, she is determined to have a paper-only marriage with the man of her choosing. Although Micah is an ex-convict, he was once her friend and the only prospect that she can entertain being stuck with for the rest of her life. Besides, it will mutually benefit them as he is struggling to raise his orphaned niece and nephew. But nothing is as simple as it looks on paper. Micah has no intention of living in a loveless marriage, and though he is a patient man, Amelia is determined to keep him at arm's length. When life-threatening dangers arise, it's more than their lives at stake. Their marriage and hearts may not survive.
Love in the Bargain is a wonderful story of learning to release control and open oneself up to the vulnerability of loving another. I highly recommend this story for fans of historical romance, marriage of convenience, friends to more, danger-filled romance, and realistically flawed characters.
Love in the Bargain is a sweet story of two friends who must become more to both gain themselves (and lose themselves) which is the beauty of this story. Though both have known each other for almost a lifetime, they have their reasons for keeping their secrets and some of those reasons involve the safety of 2 children. The ending is a complete surprise and I highly recommend this book.
Great historical western romance involving mystery, secrets, a marriage, and surprises. I liked the characters and the story line. My interest was kept through out and tha pacing of the story was good.
Ex-con marries spinster to save neice and nephew and she needs husband to get an inheritance. The plot twists and turns and the characters make this an enjoyable and quick page turner- consumed in less than 48 hours! Enjoy.
admittedly I bought this after I read a review slating it for violent content. LOL. did I have to hunt for that. Yes there is a brilliant scene where the heroine is attacked, so she hits said thug with a thorn bush... or a brawl, but come on it's a western romance. It'd be very unrealistic if there wasn't any. Right, seriously, I LOVED it. Amelia is told to marry, so she does... the first good looking bloke she finds. It's in Micah's best interest to marry, but he really doesn't want a name only marriage, and he definitely doesn't want to be beholden to his wife. Add two adorable kids into the mix and it's a marriage made in heaven... complete with thunder and lightning and punches. Read it. You won't be disappointed.
Amelia’s grandfather is sick and dying. He issues her an ultimatum to either go back to New York immediately or get married before he dies, which could be any day, to get her inheritance. She does not want to go back to New York and she will need money if she is going to keep the hotel. She had decided never to marry so this complicates things. She decides to propose to Micah her deceased best friend’s brother. Simply a business arrangement nothing more. Micah has always liked his sister Emily’s best friend but he never expected to be asked to marry her. After his sister died, he has been guardian of her two children. However, this has been rough financially and being an ex-convict doesn’t help matters. He sees the benefits to accepting Amelia’s proposal, the kids will be taken care of for one. However, he wants more than a paper marriage and she doesn’t. After some unfortunate circumstances, of becoming homeless and almost losing custody of the kids he agrees to marry her. Both of them have control issues. Will they learn to trust each other with that control? Especially with their hearts?
This is a really good story about learning to trust and not have complete control of everything. There was a part in this story that literally made my jaw drop! I was NOT expecting that at all! 😊I loved how Amelia didn’t know anything about taking care of children, including changing diapers. Micah is so good with his niece and nephew. Amelia is very protective over letting Micah into her heart to the point sometimes she is ridiculous. I will say Micah is the most patient man in the world. I loved watching them learn to trust each other. Liked the mystery element too! Lots of damsel in distress moments. I didn’t care for the constant gawking/ogling over each other’s bodies. Overall it was good story! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Content: Closed door. There is a morning after scene.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
An Enjoyable, Clean, & Wholesome Read! This wonderful story is woven full of twists and turns; along with elements of danger and humor sprinkled in. It contains true to life situations, accurate viewpoints for the times, and GREAT CHARACTER GROWTH. Her delightful storytelling held my interest and fueled my enjoyment throughout the length of the book. I had the privilege of receiving a copy from the author and the opinion and rating are all my own.
New to me author.....I enjoyed the book, but had a hard time liking the heroine for a lot of the book. Micha was an awesome character, and she did not deserve him :)
