It was very repetitive - so much of the inner monologue felt like it had been said more than 10 times. It’s only a short book, but it felt like 500 pages!
The conflict was the most frustrating conflict I’ve ever read in my entire life, and I couldn’t stop rolling my eyes continuously. Honestly, would have been 3 stars but the conflict knocked down a star.
There were a few moments that did make me smile and was enjoyable, but the frustrating and repetitive nature has, unfortunately, overtaken any enjoyment I felt reading this book

When I started this book, I was very intrigued to find out how a sweet cinnamon roll trope would work in a sports romance. I will readily admit that I was skeptical that replacing the usual hot, popular, overly confident male main character with one that is sweet, shy, and kind would work in this setting. However, the author created a plot that not only worked with this type of character but demanded it. This book was phenomenal!
The characters in this book were well developed and relatable. Miles is a massive linebacker who is shy and sweet. He is self-conscious of his size and is often ridiculed for it, even though he plays on the university’s football team. Sam is a popular softball player in desperate need of a statistics tutor. What starts as a reluctant friendship soon turns into more. I loved the dynamic between these two characters. They were both so relatable, that I couldn’t help but be sucked into their story.
If you love college sports romance but are bored with the typical alpha male/campus god male character, this book is for you. Miles brings all the ooey-gooey goodness that you never knew you wanted. I was both surprised and delighted by this book. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

April 7, 2023Unfortunately this was another DNF for me. The blurb really hooked me, but Miles is so self deprecating. I made it about 20% of the way into the book before DNFing. Almost all of his chapters are just talking down on himself and I couldn't power through it. And I know people have treated him horribly because of his size and that's affected his self esteem, but his chapters just seemed repetitive and not really furthering the story. Granted, if I would have kept with this one, that may have changed.

Dual POV college sports romance. I was drawn to this book because of the blurb and I feel like my instincts were correct. The pacing is good. The story is interesting. The shy guy and the every girl are cute together. Size difference is usually hit or miss for me and here it was a hit.
This is a new author and I intend to follow her work. She has an interesting point of view and she’s mentioned some interesting concepts (also some meme references). Also, her characters were interesting and I’m already holding my breath for Wes’s book since I feel like he’s my soulmate (Books and tea ? He couldn’t be more perfect !).
But… as the incomparable Stephen King says, to edit is divine. The Game Plan needs some. There was a lot of repetition, sometimes verbatim. In my opinion, there also needs to be a lot more dialogue instead of inner monologues. Still, I was interested in the characters enough to continue the story and see what happens.

Kind of an annoying read. A lot of the complaining could have been replaced with something that added to the story. All I kept reading was how he didn’t think anyone would want to be with him.

This book was really cute. I immediately fell in love with Miles. I’m a sucker for a big dude and at 6’6 Miles doesn’t disappoint. Who doesn’t want to be engulfed by a teddy bear!?!? Anyways…Miles’ view of himself is crushing, he has so much negative self talk it completely breaks my heart. You think a big football linebacker is gonna have all this confidence and nothing can get him down but it’s the complete opposite for Miles. He’s smart, handsome and talented but he definitely doesn’t treat himself with kindness. In walks Sam, a curvy softball player who exudes confidence on top of how beautiful she is. She’s perfect for Miles and right from the get go she brings his beautiful personality to the surface and I just love her for it. The give confidence to one another, they compliment each other and respect one another. There are a couple of bumps in the road but as the reader you are confident in their feelings for each other you know it’s gonna work out.
This was a really good sweet book and I’m glad I was given the opportunity to read it. Thanks to the author Allie Lasky and Romance Me With Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Miles internal dialogue repeated constantly saying that girls didn’t want him, “omg you want to hang out with us” was said about 10 times, “I’m not the kind of guy…” OK MILES WE GET IT.
So yeah didn’t like either of them and also him breaking up with her when all she did was stand up for him made no sense and it was annoying.

This looks to be the author’s first published story and, whilst college romance isn’t usually my thing, the blurb caught my attention. The story is dual POV, well written, and an interesting mix of angst and drama totally appropriate for the age of the protagonists, Miles and Sam. I appreciated that they were BOTH athletes, and that Miles was the character with both serious self esteem issues and academic achievements; Sam seemed quite confident in who she was and what her goals were. I enjoyed the character development and the subsequent relationship development. I also enjoyed Miles’ friends as well integrated secondary characters. I’m looking forward to seeing more from this author.

I received this book as a tour stop with romance me with books.
Some of my favorite tropes all in one book! You can never go wrong with a sports romance, and I love that it was also a student/ tutor trope. When I find these, usually it’s a dumb jock mmc, and a brainy girl fmc, so it was refreshing to see the opposite.
Overall it was a fun, cute, and easy read. Sam and Miles are both great characters with two completely different personalities but still find similarities between themselves. I loved their dynamic as friends and as it grew into more!

When I first started reading this Miles was very pick me
“Girls like her don’t go for guys like me”
“Are you willing to be seen in public with me”
Umm sweetie let’s take the pick me energy down a notch.
Oh and Sam was also kinda pick me. She literally said, “I’m not like other girls.”
Whatever you say.
But then as I got further into the book I started loving Miles because he is just an absolute teddy bear!!! He was the cutest thing ever.
This book definitely surprised me!!

I liked the first half fairly enough, but then I just could not understand the motivation behind the actions? Why was Miles so damn mad at her? Why??? And then there were a lot of details that I, admittedly, maybe read too much into, that I’d hoped were foreshadowing, but turned out to be just weird little things. Idk, it kinda bugged me. Quite fun tho, all in all.

Esta novela la obtuve del stuff your kindle day y la razón por la que lo descargué es que quería leer una love story en donde el protagonista masculino fuera un "cinnamon roll" es decir, un personaje que fuera tierno y que estuviera a dispuesto a mostrar tiernos sentimientos, o sea todo lo contrario a la nueva corriente de protagonistas de los enemies to lovers . (nada en contra de ellos, también los leo)
La historia comienza bien, el protagonista es Miles y justo parece encajar con la descripción de un "cinnamon roll", de hecho algo Miles, tiene inseguridades por su físico, ya que él es alto y grande. Me pareció bien que la autora visibiliza con este personaje que los hombres también pueden tener este tipo de inseguridades. La protagonista femenina es todo lo contrario a Miles, es la chica popular que no tiene problemas en hablar con las personas, es atractiva y segura de sí misma, sin embargo, a veces se siente sola e incomprendida por los grupos de "amistades" de los que se encuentra rodeada.
Es una novela corta que tenía todo para ser una historia muy significativa y todo se fue al precipicio con el desarrollo de la trama: es lento, conflictos sin sentido, dramas de la nada y un desarrollo amoroso demasiado rápido y frágil.
Quedé decepcionada.

Wow, finally! A male lead sports jock who isn't a stud, manwhore, or a cocky, self assured alpha with a perfect body. Miles was such a different H. He was a breath of fresh air to me. He's self-conscious with insecurities and vulnerability, and there is nothing wrong with that. Sam was just perfect for him. They are one of the best matched couples that I've read in a while.
Both of their inner monologues could be quite repetitive, tediously so, but that would be my only issue. The pacing of the story flowed really well despite the short duration of their romantic timeline. I thought this was such a super sweet story, with a touch of spice.

This is a brand-new author and considering its her first novel, it was really original and awesome, and I really enjoyed reading it. The author created some awesome characters I fell hard for, but they also have a unique spin on college life and also the world of college football.
In this story we meet sorority girl Sam who is flunking out in her statistics class. Miles is a shy, rugged football player who is a whiz at math and stats. He and Sam have only seen each other and never even said a word until she finds out about his stat grades and begs him for help.
Miles is very down on himself. He feels like a huge giant and that he is not attractive at all. He sees Sam as very hot but also as a girl who could never like him, that is until he starts to help her out and she shows him that she is very different than he thought she was.
This is a story within the college sports world where we are taught to not judge people by their body type and outside appearance. I loved how great Sam and Miles were and how they form an awesome friendship that leads to more.
There are some side plots in this story about bullying and when to stand up for your friends and harassment in this story. I really could not put this book down and adored the authors writing, characters and where she took the story and how it highlighted bullying and harassment.

This is the first in a series and this is Miles and Sam’s story. Sam is the party girl who is on the verges of losing her scholarship and being forced to drop out of school, if she fails one more exam. Miles is a line-backer, who has self-esteem issues, but he has a secret, and that is his talent for maths. Sam convinces Miles to help her. This is a good story which has a tad angst, drama, insecurities, friendships, and is an enjoyable sports romance.

So much potential…
This book is all over the place! The MC’s complain about being lonely, then say how grateful they are for their friends. The MMC is close to his family, then he’s rude to them. The side characters’ relationships to the MC’s are equally confusing. I’m guessing that this author’s beta readers aren’t very honest. This story has an excellent premise, but is repetitive and messy. Skip it.

No he'll steal your heart with his nice gestures, his shy personality, and caring nature... and Sam better watch out because all that sweetness is about to be bestowed on her!

I love sports romances, and The Game Plan was cute, fun, and a fast read! I was super excited after reading the premise, but I was let down with the actual story. Let's get into it.

Miles was so sweet, and his friends were all so fun to get to know. I want a Greg story. 😏 I loved the diversity in the characters, that was great to see! Overall, I liked the story. It was super cute and a lot more spicy then I was expecting! I am definitely going to be reading the other books I'm this series. I see a lot of potential in future stories!

Overall, I liked the story. It was super cute and a lot more spicy then I was expecting! I am definitely going to be reading the other books I'm this series. I see a lot of potential in future stories!

Okay I did like this book
It was cute
It was fluffy
HOWEVER
4 things
1. Sam is not like the other girls. We get it. She’s a tomboy, she’s a weirdo, she doesn’t fit in (lmao she didn’t say those last two but it’s funny) anyways she doesn’t like pink or girly things and it’s just giving I’m not like the other girls vibe and I didn’t like it. I just think there’s a better way to go about it besides making it this big thing and practically her whole personality
2. MILES IS SO SELF DEPRICATING OH MY GOD
I understand being insecure as a plus size girly but Jesus Christ every other sentence he was putting himself down
3. Real life sororities are not like that, yes you can find good people and make good friends but its actually a war zone. When I was in my sorority (I dropped) the girlies were one meeting away from clawing out each others eyes. I wish I was exaggerating. Anyways I dropped cause they were publicly humiliating a girl they didn’t like.
4. Their fight was the stupidest thing I have ever read. Miles got upset because Sam brought evidence that he was being bullied, and he thought that that made him look weak. That didn’t make sense in my head because I’m like you don’t look weak. It just proves that the other guy is a douche bag. Miles shouldn’t care what he or anyone else says because if you’re going to be a douche bag then you’re gonna have to deal with the consequences, you reap what you sow.
He said what Sam did was unforgivable… made no sense to me tbh

cute read
This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed this book. This is a little different because it’s not based on your popular jock that is friends with everyone and has girls lining up to get your attention.
Miles is a bigger football player and he is a little awkward so he sticks to his friends who are also seen as outcasts and due to some of the bullying he has experience, he keeps to himself. Miles is also very smart but due to his ‘player status’ he is always questioned when he does well. When a classmate makes the same assumption, well Miles isn’t too kind but he didn’t know how determined Sam is when she sets her sights on something.
When we meet Sam, she has a lot on her plate. She is apart of a sorority, an athlete and is on the verge of losing her scholarship if she doesn’t get her grades up. Sam goes in panic mode to see how she can improve on her mark and then she sees Miles’ grade and she starts to get ideas.
Sam is very vocal, doesn’t care what people say and just wants to be happy. When she starts to see glimpses of who Miles’ really is, she can’t help but be attracted to that. Their journey is stressful, heart warming, and just refreshing to see a new take on these characters and struggles that I feel like aren’t talked about as much as they should be.

Sam and Miles are focused athletes trying to do their best in both school and on the field. If Sam wants to play softball in the coming season she needs to pass her statistics class. She turns to Miles the quiet football player who sets the curve on all the tests. He eventually agrees to help her. They slowly become friends then more. As they becomes closer they must deal with nosy friends, mean rivals, and their own insecurities.
Miles was such a teddy bear. His size made him perfect on the field, but it became a hindrance in every other aspect of his life. His quiet demeanor left him open to mean spirited comments from other athletes and students. He did all he could to ignore it. You will champion his relationship with Sam but also want to yell and scream at him for trying to do so much on his own. His constant doubting run his abilities was sad to read. He has such a good heart, but so many people had battered it that he couldn’t even trust himself.
Sam is a confident women. She tells Miles what she thinks and doesn’t let the rude comments or rumors dissuade her from who she wants to hang out with. She stands up for herself and anyone she cares about with a ferocity.
This was a great college read. They had great chemistry and the story moved along well. Sam and Miles are fantastic

Allie Lasky’s novel The Game Plan was a real treat to read. It is a story about two athletes, Sam a softball player, and Miles, a football linebacker who is absolutely enormous, even among the other enormous linebackers! Sam is not a girly girl, even though she is physically one of the most beautiful women Miles has ever laid his eyes on, and she lives in a sorority a few doors down from his own house in the athletic village at their college. Sam and Miles have the same statistics class with a math professor who leaves a great deal to be desired in a college educator, and as a result Sam is not doing well and can lose her scholarship which allows her to attend college. She saw that Miles did very well on their latest test and tracked him down to ask him to tutor her. Miles is reluctant assuming that this beautiful woman could not possibly want to be around him, or be seen with him, but Sam seems genuine and very interested in not only his help with statistics, but in him as a person, and his friends and family. I won’t give any more of the plot away, but just know that it is a multi-layered tale that has heart and heat and life lessons about how to treat people and the consequences for even the most justified action. This is a good read that you won’t want to miss!

He’s a big guy who is painfully shy and keeps to himself. When she asks him to tutor her, he thinks it’s a joke. But Sam is genuine in her request and the two start to develop feelings.
I loved, loved that Miles was a bigger guy and a linebacker. A lot of sports romances focus on fit, attractive to everyone players. Miles is a sweet guy who means well but definitely has trouble with communicating his feelings. He was so used to being in the background and not taken seriously. Sam is a curvy girl who is outgoing and is the sunshine to Miles' world. I loved her confidence and how she got Miles to open up. They needed to work on their communication but they’re in college so that’s definitely learned. They were a cute couple and I enjoyed their story. I can’t wait to read the rest of the stories of the players we got to meet.

Sweet , romantic, angsty , steamy , heartbreaking, heartfelt, ups and downs , learning to love who you are and not care what other people think , drama , humor , witty banter , second chances , unexpected surprises, family, friendships, emotional rollercoaster, two main character are just so freaking likable and relatable you cannot help yourself from falling in love . Allie Lasky has taken a few of my very favorite tropes in romance, sports, opposites attract and second chances and wrapped them in the most wonderfully and heartwarming written story . A story that I can guarantee will grab onto all your emotions, pull at your heartstrings completely and suck you right in . I definitely was not prepared for all the different emotions Miles and Sam’s journey was going to stir in me . One moment I was smiling and laughing the next I was crying my eyes out . But the entire time I was rooting so hard for both to get their happy ending . There really are no perfect words to express how absolutely phenomenal this book / series is and will definitely be . Go read it for yourself I promise your will not be disappointed

I was really looking forward to this book but unfortunately it let me down. Even though the book was only 170 something pages there wasn't anything to love other than that it was a quick read. The two main characters had little to no chemistry and they fell in love way too fast. Another thing that peeved me was how the MMC and the other football players talked about their bodies and body image in general. It felt like body dysmorphia but portrayed in a wrong light... it felt disrespectful and not very well thought out. And not only was it portrayed in a bad light, it was brought up every other sentence. Like I understand we all have flaws and insecurities but it felt like it was a little too "I'm not like all the other girls" just gender swapped. The FMC was also poorly written. She just irked me and I couldn't connect with her at all. The whole book felt complainy and it didn't focus on sports or tutoring at all (which is what the book is centered around). I didn't feel anything for this book other than the fact that I wanted it to end from the first chapter. That being said, I unfortunately will not be carrying on with the series 🫠

Let’s start with things I actually liked:
I do like that Miles is not making it to the NFL. He’s not the “best” just playing football and tries hard.
I like the body representation even if it seemed a little heavy handed.
Now some things I wasn’t the biggest fan of:
Miles is at war with himself in a boring way. One chapter is I’m enough and the next is I don’t belong anywhere. The inner monologuing was repetitive and a bit painful.
I also hate how aggressively horny he is for her during their first hang out. it is very off putting.
Another thing: as a former university athlete and a girly girl I resent female athletes who say things like: “Neither of us are frilly, frou-frou type girls.” She says there’s nothing wrong with not being that kind of girl but I didn’t hear that she thought it was okay to be that either. I like that her sorority sister called her out on it. But she was so mean to girls and then she wants time with her”girls” even though it feels like she should have none or never had any?

That she thought his dad was hot before him and she talking about age gap erotica. ewwwww.

This is book number 1 of the X’s and O’s series and focuses on Miles and Sam. They are both student athletes for the same school with Sam being a softball player and Miles being a football player. When Sam is on the verge of failing her math class and losing her scholarship, she turns to Miles to help her turn her grade around. I have to say, I absolutely love the fact that Miles wasn’t the stereotypical football player! It definitely made me love him even more because he was such a sweet guy. The more time they spend together, the more they discover that great person in front of them which leads to a great relationship. I absolutely loved Miles and Sam together! This is a new author to me, but I will absolutely be gobbling up anything she puts out. I love when I finish a book and am left happy and satisfied by what I read and this story definitely did that and more. I cannot recommend this book enough! Excellent introduction to a great series.
