When Axel gets a call from a trusted friend informing him of a newly turned vampire, he jumps at the chance to help this baby vampire get his footing. The last thing Axel expects is for said vampire to be his true mate.
Becoming a vampire was not something Jeff had planned for, let alone learning that the man who’s taking care of him is also his mate. As the leader of a group of hunters, he's supposed to protect the world from the supernatural, not join them.
Now Jeff will have to balance his new world with his old life while trying to right the wrongs of his family's past. Can Axel help Jeff find redemption? Or is there no such thing for a hunter?
Hunting for Redemption is book one of A Collection of Hunters. This book is filled with self acceptance, hurt/comfort, true mates, mpreg, and of course, a happily ever after.
Toby Wise is a stay at home parent who hails from a tiny town in Wisconsin. Contrary to popular Wisconsin stereotypes, he’s not a cheese-head who enjoys beer but rather an introvert who spends all his time on the internet, drinking coffee, spending time with his kid, and cooing about his adorable cat, Pikachu.
In April of 2019, A Collection of Strays was born after the world of fanfiction drew him back into his love of writing. Now he’s writing all things omegaverse as long as it includes silly moments and found family.
I read Toby because what he writes is a straight up escape for me. Insta love/bond with fated mates, sweetness, sexy times (biting is my faaave), babies, and a little bit of drama.
This is a spin-off of Toby’s shifter series, and I was excited to read Jeff’s book who we meet in there. Jeff is unwillingly turned into a vampire and Axel (a born vampire) helps guide his way in this new world, and that’s when they discover who they are to each other. It was simply an enjoyable quick and sweet read. I can’t wait for more.
We were first introduced to Jeff in Frankie and Elwood's book called Touching Fate. While this book works as a stand alone, I highly suggest reading the Collection of Strays series.
I really enjoyed this book. Jeff was a side character that definitely needed his own story. I loved how sweet Axel and Jeff were together.
Toby did a fantastic job setting up this new series and introducing us to the new characters to this world he's built.
Axel and Jeff are both great characters and I loved the fated mates/insta love beginning to their relationship.
I'm definitely excited for the next book.
*I received an Arc, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.*
I don’t think I’ve read a Toby Wise book I haven’t enjoyed. He just seems to be able to mix sweet and sexy in a wonderful way.
Jeff is a hunter of paranormal entities that harm humans. Then he gets turned into a vampire and his word shifts in its axis. Luckily for him, he wakes up and has his true mate to help guild him into this new world.
I loved how Jeff was accepting of his new world. He was even accepting of his mate. I adored Axel and Jeff together. They were sweet with that spice that I love. Axel was just adorable and head over heels for Jeff
We meet the rest of Jeff’s team of hunters and I can’t wait to read their stories. I only wish this were longer.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
Loved, loved, loved Axel and Jeff!! I loved just about everything this author writes! He always fives us a sweet and sexy story! Jeff is a hunter and is taken by surprise when his is captured by a vampire and turned. Axel gets a call to help said baby vampire not knowing that Jeff is his mate. I seriously loved Jeff and Axel together!! Sweet with all the feels! Overall, a fantastic feel-good paranormal story, well written and great pacing. Hard to put down, highly recommended.
I have not read a single book by this author that I didn't love, and this one is no exception. We first met Jeff in the Collection of Strays series, trying to atone for the crimes of his sister and I feel absolutely in love with him and hoped that he would get his own book and here it is. When we meet up with Jeff again, he is a hunter, but he only hunts those that are a danger to humans. He is turned by an angry vampire and now has to "live" with his new normal. While finding his way, he meets his fated mate, Axel, who is also helping learn to deal with his new normal. As they find their way, they also have to deal with finding and eliminating the vampire that turned Jeff, and Jeff telling his crew of hunters about what happened to him and hoping they except it. I enjoyed this book. It was a low angst easy read, that I could get lost in. Toby Wise has a way of writing a light, fluffy story, with a bit of action that you can get lost in and fully enjoy. Five star read.
“I’m a monster,” I choke out, my voice coming out cracked. “I’m a fucking monster.” - Jeff
Main Character Information: Jeff: Hunter turned Vampire Axel: born Vampire
Stuff I Want To Mention: Super sweet. There is action, romance, heat, found family, and a baby <3. Everything was wrapped up in 117 pages and was fast paced but did not necessarily feel rushed. I could have read this if it was 400 pages too. I felt so bad for Jeff, but as Lady Fate realized, these two were made for each other and Axel was there to help him through it all.
Hunting for Love, #2: Rating: 5/5

It can be safely assumed all of my reviews are from books that are 1st Person, have a HEA, and have no intimate or spicy scenes with anyone/thing other than MC(s). I try to rate books objectively if they have something I don’t typically like (i.e. Break Ups, SA, 3rd Person, Single POV, Sharing Partners). If it’s still written well the author deserves the praise but I will make note to avoid for myself in the future. I do my best to mark different triggers/warnings as well as the intimate acts performed in case anything listed/done might not be something you would want to read. If M/M, Age Play, Interspecies, Insta Love, Erotica, MPreg, or Incest are something you actively avoid, you are probably better off avoiding most of the books I review.
DNF: Something off, couldn’t finish because of it. 1 Star: No, thanks. Something super wrong. 2 Stars: Oh that was something but it was not something for me. 3 Stars: Decent, some things didn’t sit or read right but it was worth the effort. 4 Stars: Really enjoyed it, might read again even. 5 Stars: Super duper enjoyed, written well and read well.
An interesting opener that did leave a few more questions about the world than answers, but that did a decent job introducing its main characters and plans moving forward.
Jeff was raised as a hunter but this most recent hunt was sadly lacking in one key piece of information, and he finds himself at the mercy of a vampire who is mated to the one his team killed. Jeff is turned by this vampire and dumped at the hospital, which is when Axel gets called. Axel helps out baby vamps and brings the newly turning Jeff to his house, but is surprised to realize this new vamp is his mate.
There is a little bit of world building, though it could have a bit more to it as that is where most of the questions reside. For example, if vampires are dead (no heart beat, can't cry, no breathing, etc) how can they have babies? And if they never die how does their baby age? If these guys are hunters, how do they know about the supernatural when it isn't known by the general populace? Who decides who is okay to be hunted? What are signs of supernatural beings? And if they know those signs, how do they not notice it in their own team mates? And how do hunters make a living, as they aren't paid for their job so what keeps them funded in supplies? Really more questions than answers for the universe building.
As to the relationship, there is a major element of insta-love between Axel and Jeff but there is some exploring and getting to know each other too which is nice. Axel is aware about mates, but doesn't push it on Jeff. And when Jeff becomes aware he wants to pursue and explore, but also learn about his mate. So a very quick relationship but with support and learning as well.
We learn a bit about the whole team of hunters when Jeff and Axel are ready to rejoin them. It is clear this is a found family cast and each member brings something to the team. It could be nice to learn about each character and what they find out there in the world for love and support. A good opener, but could use a bit more build up.
*4.5* I am a big fan of Toby's, ever since reading Ageless Fate, he's been giving found family and fated mates their much deserved happily ever afters. Jeff is a hunter but ends up the hunted after killing a vampires mate. Axel is called when Jeff is found just after being turned but, luckily, before waking up and needing to feed. From the first moment, Axel knows there's something about Jeff but a minute to work out their connection. Jeff has a lot to deal with, what with being a newly turned vampire but Jeff's calming presence and scent of fresh rain really calms his impulses. What I love about Toby's stories is that, even though they are shorter books, there is still a bond felt and formed and I can easily feel the emotions between the MC's as well as the family that they surround themselves with, in this case the other hunters that Jeff works with. The feelings that develop feel like it's natural across the short time frame and I love the true mates and mpreg that binds them together. This is definitely going to be another great series with wonderful characters, great relationships between them all and some interesting plotlines. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
Hunting For Redemption is a new series by Toby Wise. From my understanding it's a spin off of his Collection Of Strays series. There are some characters from that series that overlap in this one, we get to see Star again who's the midwife for a lot of the characters in his other series. I love when characters crossover and it was done really well here.
This story is about Jeff, who's a hunter. He along with his team make sure that vampires who are out of control are stopped. When one case goes horribly wrong he loses his humanity and instead gains immortality.
However... Maybe things aren't as bad as they first seem. Considering he ends up finding his fated mate.
This story was really great, I have loved Toby's writing and this one did not disappoint. The characters were great, I'm really, really interested in reading the side characters stories. I'm so intrigued by Carlos... I wonder what his story is going to be? If you want a quick read filled with vampires finding their mate and having a vampire baby, then this is the book for you!
*I received an early copy of this book and this is my honest review.*
Again, Toby Wise surprise us with their new serie. Exceed my expectation soooo much It took me a while to link them to Trish but I was so much happier to see them connect. (And feel so stupid afterwards lol) This new serie have so much potential I am so much febrile to devore the entire serie.
**May contains spoilers**
In this book, the plot is THE BEST ONE EVER written. A hunter who is forced to become the prey. He will find refuge with Axel who with a ounce of fate will discover his own mate. He will find acceptance in his new life. New challenge to control himself and his blood urge. He is scare to lose control and k!ll his crew, his human crew. But it's not just a crew. They are all family, chosen family!!!
But the awful person who tranform (turn?*) him is still at large and the danger is just around the corner. Can they survive? Can their crew can take charge of that case? Can he stay control under all this drama?
I am sooooo excited I am like a child in a candy store. Can wait to the next book!!!!!
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more in the series to see where the author takes us. Hunting for Redemption is the 1st book in Toby Wise’s new Collection of Hunters Series. Jeff is a Hunter of Supernaturals who have crossed the lines. He is constantly trying to make up for what he feels is a mistake in his past. When he is forced to become what he hunts, Alex is there to try to help him adjust to his new life. As the two discover that they have a stronger connection than either imagined, the author brings us along on their story of love, acceptance and family. I”ve always enjoyed the author's writing style, which brings us emotion along with some laughs for good measure and this is no exception. The side characters help bring the story to life and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next installments as we see where this happy family of Hunters goes next in their journey.
This is a first book in his new Hunter series, pretty much a spin off of his “collection of strays” series. While I love the collection of strays series I was not too eager about this series. Honestly I am wishing more for a sequel of A layperry’s tradition and a magical arrangement.
However it’s a new book of Toby Wise so I had to read it anyway.
This was cute and I kind of liked the story however I wasn’t too much into this couple. I can’t lay my finger on what exactly but something was missing for me.
However I do like the side characters we got introduced to and I am looking forward to their own stories.
Something I wish we would have gotten is a meeting of Dakotas family with Axel and Jeff. Both know Dakotas family but it’s never really mentioned between them and I wish there would have been at least like a short scene were they met.
Overall this was good just nothing more, still like I said I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Hunting for Redemption by Toby Wise is the first book in A Collection of Hunters series. This story is told in dual POV. I loved this story!! I loved the concept and the characters so very much. Really well-done story and the connection is amazingly done.
Axel learns there is a man barely clinging to life. When he meets him, he knows he will be a vampire and the man is her mate.
I loved that Axel is caring, he is a protector at heart. He is kind sweet, and deadly if need be.
Jeff was a human hunter, now he is something else. He is scared and confused.
He has to find out who he is in this story. I liked how it was done. Very organic and natural.
Overall great story with amazing characters I really loved this one and can not wait for more from this series in the future.
This is a super sweet low angst story between Jeff, a hunter turned vampire, and Axel, a born vampire. This is a really enjoyable and quick read and I like the found family feeling with Jeff and his crew. I was a bit surprised at how the pregnancy was woven in but I went with it. My one "complaint" is that I wish Toby's stories were just a tad longer. I think with just a few more chapters, we could really get into some awesome world building and character history. We did get to learn quite a bit about Jeff but Axel is still a bit mysterious. There's just a couple of lines about his parents and I would've liked to have learned how he came about dealing with the blood bank.
All that aside, Toby's books are fun and this one definitely fits right in! I can't wait to learn more about the rest of the crew!
This is a really sweet Book and a great start to a new series. While this is a spin off from the Collection of Strays series, it absolutely can be read as a stand-alone book.
Jeff is a hunter who, along with his team, hunts rogue supernaturals who are hunting or harming humans. Axel is a born vampire who is often called to help newly turned vampires with the transition. When the hunter becomes the very thing he hunts, he has to learn if there is a way forward or if this is the end of the road.
I loved Jeff and Axel. They were super sweet and caring and both supported the other throughout the changes in their lives. I absolutely adored this one and can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I was so excited to get more of Jeff who we meet in Touching Fate. I was just so intrigued by his back story and it wound up being great. This take was so much fun. We get a deep look into Jeff's past and how he feels about it and why he feels he needs redemption. Then we get to meet his crew and hints of why they might be with him (by they way read Between Hunts if you get a chance for more of a hint at all of them). Then we get to meet Axel who is just so sweet and understanding. Since it is about a group of hunters, it makes sense it is more action based than its precursor. Some great exciting moments and it still manages to have the sweet and smexy times Toby always manages to put into the books. I can't wait for more from this crew.
4.5 Hunting for Redemption kicks off a spin off series from the Collection of Strays books.
I've not read all of the Collection books, just the first in fact and I think that Jeff is in the 2nd book, so my review is of this basically as a standalone.
It works on its own easily. There's enough information there for the reader to get full enjoyment and some teasers for those that have read them all.
I enjoy this authors writing. Though the books are shorter there is still plenty packed in them.
We get steam, sweetness, a bit of danger and a cute baby. The mpreg aspects are lightly described.
This story starts with a great premise - Jeff, a hunter of paranormal entities who are dangerous to humans has been turned into a vampire and now must figure out how to exist under these new conditions. Fortunately, he gets help from a sweet and deliciously sexy vampire, Axel. The fact that these two turn out to be fated mates is a turn neither is prepared for but as the story develops they turn out to be perfect for each other. There is a family reason Jeff feels he needs redemption and Axel is right there for Jeff all the way. Can't wait to learn more about the rest of the characters in this story and see where things go in future books.
I’m a big fan of the Collection of Strays series so I was super excited to see that there was going to be a spin-off featuring Jeff and his band of brothers. This had all the hallmarks of a Toby Wise book with sweetness, found family, low-angst, and a wonderful HEA. I do recommend you read the prequel Between Hunts as that introduces you to the hunters in this series (though it’s not necessary to enjoy the book). Axel and Jeff were really lovely together and even though Jeff went through something awful I’m glad he found his mate. I can’t wait until the next one!
I enjoy every Toby Wise book I read! This is a spin off from the Collection of Strays series and I was so glad to be in this world again. You don't have to read that series first but I do recommend reading it at some point because it's great.
Jeff gets turned into a vampire and Axel is the person who is there to help him through the transition and it turns out that they are fated mates. Axel and Jeff are perfect for each other and I love how their relationship progressed.
I really like how the whole story played out. I don't want to give away any spoilers so I'll just say I LOVE the hunters and can't wait for their books to come.
For the last 3 and 1/2 years, I've only been reading audiobooks and graphic novels. So today is a day to remember since I ACTUALLY read a book! With my eyes! From beginning to end!! I still clearly prefer audiobooks but I'm so proud of myself!
Now that the auto-congratulations are done, let's talk about the book. I really enjoyed it. It was simple, cute and sexy -which was perfect as a first book reading. Don't start the book especting a great worldbuilding nor plot. It was basically a fun and easy read focusing on a fated mates romance (I'm goner for that trope) and I liked it as it was.
This was a really good start to a new mpreg series, though if you have read this authors series “A Collection of Strays” you will recognize a couple of the characters. Axel is a super sweet vampire who likes helping others and Jeff is a hunter who tries to keep humans safe from paranormal who cross the line. I loved this story but think maybe the author should get a new proofreader cause there are quit a few mistakes. This doesn’t detract from what a good story this though in my opinion. Can’t wait to read about the rest of Jeffs team finding their HEAs as well.
I loved the premise of this book. The characters and world building started engaging but fell flat due to gaping plot holes.
The connection between "Sins of his past" and redemption were just not there. The explanation of his sisters crime needed greater details. I make this point because the books premise is based on that feeling that he handled the crime his sister committed was his fault.
Additionally the Vampires strength and weaknesses are not explained well IE during the kidnapping Spice 1, Dual POV, Mpreg, MM That said, I was entertained
Apparently this is a spin off series, but it's definitely not necessary to read that series first. I haven't and I still thoroughly enjoyed this one. It was just the perfect blend of sweet, steamy, with just a dash of danger thrown in to keep you on your toes. A fun start to a new series that I'm excited for. If you liked fated mates, found family, mpreg, and just all around cute stories, this is a good series to start.
I am a huge Toby Wise fan and LOVED the first book in this new series! This is Jeff's story! I loved Jeff and Axel together and their extended family! This is a page turner from the beginning until the very end! It was great seeing some characters from the previous series too! This is a fantastic start to what looks like an amazing new series! I read an advanced copy of this book and this is my unbiased review!
It's alright for a short story but it needs to add some lore to it. Like it never explains if the vampires can go out at night, I'm assuming so but most of the story is ambiguous with what time of day it takes place. The labor is just lazily writen with no explanation how it physically is possible. The back story with his sister was anticlimactic and such a let down. I should have known there'd be no depth to it since everything else in the story was one dimensional.
Got this when it was free on the zon and I should have known I was going to be hooked. It was short, sweet, to the point, and frankly I should have just bought the whole series on the get go cause it's great.
I like Axel. I love how Jeff's crew accept them both so easily.
Overall this is just a heartwarming found family omegaverse romance. Easy to read in the best way. And save yourself the time, just get the lot!
I really enjoyed the combined tropes of mpreg with vampires. It's quite unique since we usually get wolf shifters or any other animal shifters and mpreg. There were some plot holes like where did Dakota and Axel come from. And where were Jeff's team when he was kidnapping by the vampire. Nine, I enjoyed the story and I loved Jeff and Axel as a couple.
The way Toby Wise writes just warms and steals my heart. With this book Hunting for Redemption it was no different. The love Axel and Jeff have for each other is just so Heartwarming. The storyline is well written and deserves a orange banner. The way the crew are all there for each other is fabulous.
