“For as far back as I can remember, I was the industry standard.
Scratch that—the gold standard. Top of the class. A-all-the-way.”
Lexi Dash - America’s Sweetheart, top paid, super famous actress is in trouble.
When she decides to star in a action series, instead of another rom-com, her sweet-girl persona doesn’t flow well with the character she’s supposed to portray.
So her do-star suggests she spends some time in a small town shadowing a police officer, to learn the trade and harden up.
“W-w-wait! Are you actually suggesting I ride around in a cop car and put myself in danger? I’m not trained to deal with angry and violent criminals. I’m an actress!”
Despite the idea not sitting well with her, Lexi has no choice but to accept the offer and spend two weeks in a small town in Colorado.
“Look-at-you…
The Bastwick family seems to have a dominant hot gene.”
Luke Bastwick is the Chief of police of the small town Lexi is shipped to.
Life there is peaceful and predictable, but Luck feels empty and hollow and trust is not something he gives away easily.
“Oh, I guess I never asked…do you live alone? Or do you have a wife and kids?”
“Do you think my place looks big enough for a wife, let alone an ankle-biter?”
“It’s plenty big, as long as you like the person you’re sharing it with.”
I liked this book but didn’t love it.
I loved Lexi and how strong and determined she was. How she wasn’t afraid of going after what she wanted. A real boss-lady.
I loved Clint’s antics and how he played his part so well.
“It’s better to live with hard truths than to keep hoping for something you aren’t meant for.
But I didn’t loved Luke. I get it, the guy had problems. He was afraid to get attached, he was afraid to be abandoned again… I get it, I do. But I also think he didn’t do anything to try and make Lexi stay.
He pushed her away, more often than not, tho not with great conviction. Was an asshole to her,…. But he didn’t actively search to make her stay. To tell her his feelings… nada!
He just stood there waiting for a miracle.
