Stacie

Rate this book
Stacie and Londyn have a friendship that can easily be misinterpreted, but they understand it. They thrive off of it, and depend on it. He is her shelter, and she is his escape.

When Londyn is faced with a traumatic experience, Stacie is there to give her the comfort that she needs. He does everything he can to bring her out of a dark place, only for him to sink down into his own sorrow.

Misguided feelings, and the need for a distraction sends Stacie back into the arms of a woman who is no good for him, with Londyn stuck in the middle.

When it's all said and done, is there more to their friendship than they realize, or are they meant to only be the best of friends, and nothing more?

Shanel knocked it out of the park with this one! This was a slow burning friends lo lovers story and the build up was worth the explosion!! This was such a beautiful story of tragedy to triumph and Stacie and Londyn were just what each other needed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ HIGHLY RECOMMEND

The slow burn wasn't what I was expecting. Despite the predictable fact that Stacie and Londyn do end up together, the story's transformation from friends to lovers is well-written. In the beginning, Londyn goes through a terrible experience, and we see how it impacts her and the people around her, particularly Stacie. I think Londyn's character growth would have been more solid if we had seen her in therapy. I believe the beauty of Stacie and Londyn's love story was in the fact that that their feelings for one other were so concealed that they were unaware of them until the very end.

Friends to Lovers perfection. This was a heavy bittersweet and beautiful story. I loved it though because it was so well written you felt you were there with them. I loved, the flow, the buildup, the friendship and unconditional love between Stacie and London. Really great read.

The Way He Talks About Her

“Can we be in love and still be the best of friends?” Yes😍

This broke my heart, then pieced it back together chapter by chapter. Please check the TW/CWs—this is heavy. This book carried some heavy topics, Londyn and Stacie were both dealing with struggles from their past through it all they continue to be there for each other. What Londyn went through was traumatic and heartbreaking. Throughout this read I wanted them to reach out and get some professional help, but I understand how difficult the road to healing can be. Stacie’s dedication and care for Londyn never wavered and he was for vocal about no one thanking him for what he did for Londyn:

“Don’t ever thank me for what I’m supposed to do.” That would always be my response to her thanking me.”

Stacie talked about Londyn in the most beautiful way, omg 😍. The man he was for her as just her best friend!!! His protectiveness —make no mistake Stacie was not to be played with.

Everybody saw that they had a forever love, meanwhile they were oblivious lol. This book was painful but beautiful.
I love their friendship and respect for each other, this was definitely a slowww burn. I hope we get to experience more of their love in a novella or book 2 for Brody and Desiree.

Oh, I absolutely loved this

I think we'd all love to have a Stacie in our lives. What he represented was amazing. Shanel did a great job at keeping me at the edge of my seat. I loved how the story unraveled was realistic but enough for me to connect to the characters and celebrate their love. It was perfect but I wished we learnt more of Stacie's past and traumas and Londyn's sister or her upbringing. I was curious about her parents and Stacie's uncle. Even Lydia's back story. I didn't want it to end. But it ended perfectly.

LOVE!

What a beautiful story. What Londyn experienced was horrific. I wanted to climb in this book and save her myself! Reading how Stacie was the ever wonderful friend to her and helping her heal was amazing. They really deserved the love they gave each other!

“ Don’t ever thank me for what I am supposed to do” That will always be my response to her when she thanked me”.. Staci

Staci and Londyn were best friends like no one came before Londyn in Staci’s eyes she was his heart. But can two best friend be friends but not realize they truly loved each other. Everyone else seem to know but them.

There are TW in this book it touched on some heavy topics had me very emotional from the beginning. Londyn went through some traumatic events and the way Staci never left her side and went into protective mode just melted my heart. When I tell you there is nothing Staci wouldn’t do for Londyn there is nothing!

Londyn was the same way for her BFF he went through a loss and she was right there. They needed for what they both was going through . Through all his healing journey that they both were on do they see what others have been seeing or do they remain BFF’s?

Honestly I don’t really know what to say about this one. I didn’t love it and I didn’t hate it.

The first chapter captured my attention, the sensitive topics were handled in a way that got across the depth of Londyn’s experience. And yet it didn’t romanticize the act; which happens often in romance novels who feature such things.

I think it was the trauma bonding and timeline that threw me off.

Overall I enjoyed the writing. I know it was a slow build up to the ultimate relationship, but we only had 10% of the book remaining when this two finally made something happen. Which means the majority of the book was filled with them skirting around stuff. If it would’ve been half and half I think this would’ve been at minimum a 4 star read for me.

✨Book Review✨

“I couldn’t explain what it was about Londyn, but whatever it was… she had it. She had the juice, and I drank it.”

This is probably the most unique friends-to-lovers story I’ve read. Shanel did a good job of taking us through this journey with Stacie and Londyn. My heart was broken at the end of chapter two, and then Shanel pieced it back together again.

From Chapter 1 you knew that Stacie was in love with his best friend, the way this man spoke about Londyn was just so beautiful. She is the standard and he was making no apologies for it.

While Londyn went through a life-altering experience, Stacie NEVER turned his back he was right by her side no matter how hard she tried to push him away. Witnessing Londyn’s brokenness tore me up. I wanted her to seek some therapy but I also understood that she needed time before seeking that step.

Stacie was also facing some tough decisions about his past, in particular, his ex Kat, was back around, begging for another chance and he was dealing with the fact that his uncle the only parent he knew was dying.

The way these two showed up for each other no matter what they had going on in their personal lives was unconditional love at its core.

This was a beautiful story that turned tragedy into triumph. Stacie and Londyn found a home in one another.

“Not one single woman walking this earth who will ever sit as high as you do in my heart.”

Highly Recommend. There are trigger warnings for this book. SA, and death of a loved one.

Whew Shanel can write a damn book! She has very quickly become an auto buy author for me.

This was a HEAVY book. Please please check trigger warnings and look after yourself guys.

Shanel writes heavy topics with such beauty and care. What happened to Londyn in this book tore me apart but I had hope for her from the beginning. Her relationship with Stacie was at times frustrating because it was so very clear that they were in love to everyone but themselves. However, it was also beautiful to see how they were given the space to organically discover the dynamic of their relationship.

Stacie is a MAN. Even though he had things to work on internally, he didn’t allow that to get in the way of his relationship with Londyn and his responsibility of care. We all love a gangster who is not afraid to be soft for his woman and Stacie was that for her even before they discovered that they were in love with one another.

I would have loved more of their romance after the discovery but that just shows that I truly did not want this book to end.

If you’re looking for a second chance romance that will tug at your heartstrings AND tear ducts, this is the book for you!

I think everybody should give this story a chance . The break through this story tells is powerful and two friends that are riding for one another through it all you will be in awe ... Yeaaa I like this Shanel. Friends or lover story it can be a hit or miss sometimes but this one definitely Hit! The only thing I would change is then finding out they love one another sooner so I can enjoy the romance of them as lovers. Still 4.6

This was the perfect friends to lovers read. I love the friendship & bond Stacie and Londyn shared. The way Stacie & Londyn loved on, cared for, and protected each other was so genuine & pure. Everyone seen the love these two shared but them. Unfortunately it took two very tragic events to open Stacie & Londyn’s eyes to what everyone else sees. In the end love wins!

More than friends

This was a slow burn. The majority of the book the main characters are together but not together.

Stacie has been best friends with Londyn for years. They have always been a support system for each other. Stacie struggled with nightmares from his rough past and he would always find solace with Londyn. Londyn was his rock.

Londyn goes through a traumatic experience and Stacie is broke to bits that he was unable to be there for her. He vows to take care of her. He builds her back up and she is again beginning to feel safe with him. They both start to feel .....more for each other. Something that has never happened. Stacie does his best to ignore his feelings, but he knows their friendship is shifting. There was a lot going on and they navigated so much together.

Some parts felt unrealistic like Londyn just basically never returning to work with no issue. Londyn managed to heal without therapy....it seemed she really really needed some help and would've loved that to be highlighted.

Soooo Good 🤍

Stacieeeeeeeeeee is baeeeeeeee 🥰🥰🥰

This was my first read for this author and trust me it won’t be my last. Friends to lovers will always be my favorite troupe and this author didn’t disappoint.

One thing that really stood out to me is after the traumatic experience that Londyn experienced and the healing process wasn’t rushed. We really got to experience her feelings for every stage of the healing which I’m glad it wasn’t after a couple of chapters and she was good.

Londyn and Stacie both experience traumatic events and their bond helped them get through it together and that’s when they realized their true feelings for each other. Their journey to love was so beautiful 😻

I highly recommend this book 📚

Did not finish! Maybe cos I'm not really a fan of slow burn! I'm looking for romance and I couldn't find it in this book , everything was about the trauma. It's being listed as romance on Amazon but it lacked it for me. I've read other books by this author and she is Amazing! Will definitely read her other books!

whew!

This book took me through it with both Stacie and Londyn… my heart repeatedly broke over and over but through the pain there was always love. I love a good friends to lovers and this was great. So much raw emotion and just blatant love from deep within. I was always rooting for them and glad that what they were looking for was found in each other. I really enjoyed this read and I can’t wait for more

Book Bae Stacie is everything and more

Friends turned to lovers was once a myth. After reading this story it made the possibility into a reality. Sad that tragedies had to occur to bring these two closer together than ever before but yet true love prevailed in the end. Stacie was like a knight in shining armor always coming to rescue from now until the end of time.

Good

I loved this story and the best friends to lovers part of the storyline. I was very annoyed that the connection did not occur until 85% into the book. Really annoyed with that! But other than that, the love was real between friends.

Couldn't finish

Although I really looooved Stacie (hate his name) this story was entirely too depressing for me. There wasn't any happy moments.. let me take that back there were happy seconds and then u flip the page and something even more depressing happens. I'm at 64% and the two main characters are still not together although you know it's going to happen. This means we're only gonna get a glimpse of the relationship once they finally cross that line. The story is not bad, it's just not for me. It's too much real life and I don't think there was a disclaimer for rape in the introduction. It got to a point where I'm like okay like when are we gonna see some light at the end of this tunnel of sadness. It brought me down. But I love Stacie and Lydia.

Boring story

These friends had to be told by everyone around them that they had deeper feelings than friendship for each. Then they have sex in the last chapter, I guess that means they are together now. The End. Boring

A Bond That Transcends Friendship

Let me preface this by saying Stacie is Bae with a capitol B. Oh My Gawd this man is e-ver-y-thing. He is a protector, confidant, soother, healer, and redeemer but mostly, he was a friend who’s dealing with his own ghosts and trauma, never turns away from his obligation to support his bestie.

I loved Londyn’s sass, confidence and her strength and when she goes into the darkest part of herself, a place where souls go to die, I felt it. Londyn was drowning in the abyss of pain where the depiction was so raw I felt like I was watching the events unfold in slow motion. My heart ached and cried for her and when she let go and fell giving into that darkness, her village, her family surrounded her in and held her keeping her from hitting the bottom.

I love how Stacie and Londyn’s relationship transcended the normal boundaries of friendship allowing them to have the ultimate trust in each other. Their need in each other shielded the pain and eased the nightmares away. Both dealing with traumatic tragedies that were so heavy it effected their everyday lives and being there for each other was the therapeutic treatment they needed to remedy the ghost that haunted them. He was her home where she felt safe and she was his comforter that quieted his chanting demons. The way he loves Londyn and the bond they have is enduring, but it was funny how both Stacie and Londyn’s blind azzes couldn’t see what was right in front of them…each other and he wore glasses.

Author Shanel did an incredible, descriptive, amazing job unfolding the veils of darkness shining a light on new uncharted discovery. She showed the depth and gravity of pain, but her portrayal of authentic affection deep within crawling to the surface where there’s no pretense or superficial impressions to gain attention revealed a genuine destined love was simply beautiful.

Every bit of what I didn't know that I needed

I need to start off with I am in a space where I choose my reads based off the cover and sometimes suggestions. I dive right in never reading the synopsis. At the same time because of being victimized I skip over sexual abuse...well the Black Romance Connoseur from IG said this was good so I didn't read her full review just downloaded and jumped in.

I wanted to stop when Londyn was attacked...I was triggered and had to pause...BUT STACIE pulled me back and I'm glad he did because not only did his love help heal her, I got a piece of healing too.

THANK YOU for not shying away from the brutality of such an horrendous act and the aftermath of it. The Love that healed Lyndon from her mother father Lydia and STACIE made my heart smile. I didn't have the same experience but to see and believe for a moment that someone else could after all this time helped.

FOR MY REVIEW
STACIE AND LONDYN ARE BEAUTIFUL LOVE THEM TOGETHER...BUT ITS STACIE FOR ME!! The way he loves and cares for his people, how he shows up...I LOVE HIM!! He definitely loved Londyn so deep and pure! The way he spoke to her oh my goodness!! What I loved most was that there was no reason for their love...like oh when we met so and so happened...no they just organically loved each other and I'm here for it!!!

Stacie = Book Bae

TW - Violent SA

I love a good Friends to Lovers story. Stacie and Londyn were each other's everything - best friend, protector, and lover.

He did everything in his power to help her heal from one of the worst things imaginable. She didn't allow her own pain to prevent her from being by his side as grief threatened to take him down.

I liked the writing style and pace of story. I think Londyn and Stacie could have been developed a bit more in the beginning. Londyn owning a spa was mentioned, but barely anything on her background, education, goals, or talents. Stacie had to kill his bf and fellow gang member, along with someone named Faith. Then he owned a lounge. But I can't recalls anything being mentioned that supported him turning into book bae material, besides having Unc in his life.

The two finally coming together was sweet and hawt. 🥵

I'm not sure whether I've read other books by this author, but I'm about to get into her catalog while I wait for the next book **Because what was up with Lydia and her sneaky link?** 🤔🤨🧐🤫
