With the threat of the rebels’ looming war, romance is the last thing on Tyonna’s mind. But as she prepares to set off on a mission, the new member to join her crew leaves her breathless. Nevrik is the most imposing and intimidating Scelk she has ever seen. After so many years pining over a male she cannot have, she’s stirred in the most unexpected fashion by Nevrik’s sharp tongue, intense gaze, and irreverent ways.
Nevrik has loved Tyonna from the moment he laid eyes on her. When she rejected him four years ago, and in spite of her valid reasons to do so, it crushed him. Ever since, he’s been biding his time, lying in wait for the opportunity to claim his beautiful warrior queen. But in the most improbable turn of events, the rebels present him with a poisoned gift.
Will Tyonna and Nevrik be forced to make the impossible choice between their love, their loyalty to the Vanguard, and their own moral obligations?
USA Today bestselling author Regine Abel is a fantasy, paranormal, and sci-fi junkie. Anything with a bit of magic, a touch of the unusual, and a lot of romance will have her jumping for joy. She loves writing hot alien warriors meeting no-nonsense, kick-ass heroines. Her novels are steamy, action-packed, and with the twists and turns you never saw coming.
Before devoting herself as a full-time writer, Regine had surrendered to her other passions: music and video games! After a decade working as a Sound Engineer in movie dubbing and live concerts, Regine became a professional Game Designer and Creative Director, a career that has led her from her home in Canada to the US and various countries in Europe and Asia.
MAN, things are HAPPENING and I'm all aflutter. The good part? Some of these things are good! The bad? The Coalition leaders who are spearheading the return to war are just as dangerous as the Kryptid general the Vanguard recently defeated.
But let's not dwell on the bad parts. I mean, Nevrik and Tyonna are finally at a point where they're both on the same page and that's an EXCELLENT thing. For the record, I completely understand Tyonna's reasoning as to why she couldn't start a relationship with Nevrik before. She still had to work her way through how she was physically older than him NOW and come to terms with that. The age of his host when they first met was a hard line she wasn't willing to cross.
As for Nevrik, he also understood Tyonna's reasoning, but it's cold comfort when your soulmate is so close, yet so far away. That said, Nevrik grew into himself (or more like his body caught up with his mind) and the stars aligned for their (re)connection. Sure, heading into what is likely going to be a battle isn't the best time to woo your honey, but Nevrik and Tyonna make things work.
As for that war...some good is being found in the bad the Coalition is stirring up. The Scelks have a cause for hope, the Vanguard is defeating the unkillable in creative ways, and not all those following the rebels are down with their ultimate plan. Things are on the brink and I AM HERE FOR IT.

Nevrik, the male Scelk (humanoid/bug hybrid) lead, has been in love with Tyonna, the female human lead, since he met her but he had a boy’s form and she was understandably not interested. Now that he’s matured, he’s ready to pursue their relationship. He’s just a bit terrified she’ll reject him again.
Tyonna hasn’t been thinking of him- he WAS just a boy before…but now he’s definitely all adult male and sexy and sarcastic, and just her speed, actually…
But they are in the middle of trying to prevent a war…
This story is dual POV, well written, and all kinds of awesome! I adored both Tyonna and Nevrik’s personalities and character development and greatly enjoyed the relationship development. The intimate scenes were gorgeous and erotic and intense and beautiful! This story was all around yes please! And I appreciate that the author has stated this is the second last in the series because I LOVE a good series closer and can’t wait for the next one because this was so good! Whilst the romance in this story stands alone, this will be best enjoyed within the series because so much of the overarching plot continues from where the previous story finished.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
This is clearly a ten star read! I love Regine Abel’s work. In this latest release we are once again immersed in the Vanguard, fighting the rebels led by Giles Dalton. I am pleased to get a better insight into the minutia of Scelk society. Abel does dangle the want to know, where is the Scelk queen that is laying the eggs and will be see a Erzod/Nathalie book. I sure hope so. I would hate for this series to end. I suspect Abel is clever enough to meld this series into more books. I thought everything was over once Khutu died but I enjoy the rebels so much more. I enjoyed the scorching hot romance between Nevrik and Tyonna. Best book of the series!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love, love this series I just can’t get enough of this Xians,Scelks warriors. Since the very beginning of this series I have fallen in love with every single characters that has come through. And I think I will keep falling in love. Love reading Nevrik and Tyonna story it had all what you love reading in a book. I don’t have so many words to say how much I love the series
It's even sad to know that the series is over, but it looks like Nevrik is really the last book. The enemy is now another. A new army is being created through genetic mutation (much like what General Khutu had been doing for years), but this time with the aim of eradicating the Kryptids, the civilians who had nothing to do with the General's bloodthirsty ideas. While some of the Warriors, their Soulcatchers and allies try to figure out who is behind this new battle, Nevrik, a mature Scelk, finally gets the chance to get closer to his soulmate.
Tyonna and Nevrik had met years before, not long after the bug attacked the host and developed into who it is now. But even then, Nevrik was an adult in the body of an undeveloped youth, and when he declared his love for Tyonna, she could not separate [in her mind] the two beings. Nevrik felt hurt, but after reading her mind, he understood why she refuted him. Now, there was no reason. He had matured into a very powerful being - almost as powerful as Varnog, their Alpha in the Vanguard. Tyonna, however, though she was attracted to Nevrik, wanted to be courted. And while working to save other innocent lives, the two begin a dance of conquest, knowledge, surprises, in a flash of choosing the best path for the new horizon that loomed before them. The war was over, but there would always be new worlds to discover, new people to help, and new enemies to fight. We will miss these warriors 5 stars
The Xian Warriors series is one of my favorite sci-fi series. Heads up, it's best to read the other books in this series before this one, but if you don't want to do that then I recommend reading Varnog first. Nevrik has been obsessed with Tyonna since he met her, but the host body he was in wasn't mature at the time. He's ALL grown up now! And he's tired of waiting. When Tyonna and Nevrik go on a mission together things get heated. They have a very spirited relationship. I would almost call it enemies-to-lovers. The mission they're on is dangerous and complicated. Lots of surprises here which are the best! You'll have to read and find out. This book was full of action, adventure and steam! I almost love Nevrik more than Varnog... A super addition to the Xian series! 4 stars
Another amazing couple and awesome continuation of this story. I loved how this story keeps building up for more couples to get together an the true saviors the vanguard are still working to keep peace with every alien species.
Ok so to be 100% honest Varnog is still my fave Scelk but man Nevrik is a super close 2nd. He was just so adorable! This whole series is amazing and worth checking out if you haven't.
I would give this 21 STARS if I could !!! Absolutely Amazing !!!!
OhmiGOSH !!!!!!!! This book was a phenomenal read from beginning to the end !!! Tyonna has been in most of the Xian books and I was extremely happy to get her story !! That she is matched to one of the sexist scelks, Nevrik, was both exasperating and mind blowing !!! What with the Scelks irreverent smirks, and extreme attitude about Everything, Tyonna totally has her work cut out for her !!! I swear that Nevrik is even sexier then Varnog !!!! Of course the situation with the rebels is a back drop and all of the action and adventure that these warriors and their friends and extended families made my heart beat almost out of my chest , and also made me ugly cry in several spots !!!!! I reached the word ," epilogue " , and wanted to bawl my eyes out like a baby !!!!! I ALWAYS want to keep reading !!!!!! I absolutely 1000% LOVE THESE BOOKS !!!!!!!!! Can't wait for the next book in this series !!!!!
Wow! Another thrilling adventure! Just when I think these Xian Warriors adventures couldn’t get better, Nevrik and Tyonna arrive and prove me wrong! This relationship is something else - one step forward, two steps back - I worry Tyonna and Nevrik will never get together. I love Tyonna’s brilliant mind and the solutions she and the rest find to save the young Scelks. Nevrik is an amazing male with a single-minded focus on his mate - even if the timing is off. It takes everyone working as a cohesive unit to overcome the dangers that face them, and to outwit Giles - a fanatic in his own right. This is a fine romance paired with edge-of-your-seat action. Splendid reading!
I ended up skimming three-quarters of the way in. I was bored. I just didn't connect the characters. The whole parasite bug thing is just creepy. Turned me off. Taking an innocent's life so that you can live is not honorable. In some cases they would murder children. Just not cool. I only kept reading so that I'd be up to date when the next book came out.
I do hope this isn’t the last book in this series. Not that it was a great series but there was almost zero resolution. We didn’t even get an epic battle with the rebels, just implied they were losing. We didn’t get to see how the Vanguard will be changed after this “war”, how some of the new” experiments were recreated, etc. We were left with more questions than answers. The HEA was solid. I first tried to read this as a stand-alone and couldn’t finish. After reading the prior 8 books and diving into this one, I’m glad I gave it another chance. Nevrik is never mentioned before this book but he quickly became one of my favorites. His boldness, cockiness, sarcasm and just whole attitude was everything I had hoped Varnog would be. His threats sent shivers down my spine. Varnog should’ve been written more like this. I want more psychopath from my scelks. Tyonna didn’t really differ from the other females. She was a hard ass, fierce, etc. As a black female she was a Portal but we didn’t see a whole lot of that from her. This book was more telling than showing. It was quickly put together despite how much Nevrik dominated the pages. If this is the conclusion, I can make my peace with it despite this book probably needing at least another 100-200 pages to wrap things up.
I loved Varnog and Linette’s story and considered them my all-time favorite couple, but Nevrik and Tyonna’s book quickly took that crown! I loved the character’s dynamics (both individually and together), the back-and-forth tension, and the electrifying spicy scenes– especially their spicy scenes. It felt like we got a lot more of those in this book than in the others because Nevrik had a more primal mentality for Tyonna than Varnog had for Linette, but that’s just my speculation. Either way, I am NOT complaining. Nevrik and Tyonna balanced each other so well, and even though it took them a while to get together, it was worth it (both for them and the reader).
The plot, as always, was phenomenal. It kept me hooked from the very beginning, and I'm sad the next book isn't out yet. This series became my newest obsession, and it'll be very hard to find a new series that even remotely compares to this one.
This story for the most part was smooth and characters, storyline was great. But they had too much of the same parts in the second half of the book. I am confused how the last part plan was supposed to be. I had impression they were going to the planet to bring the new members. Then no, they are going onto a transport ship as sleeper agents. Then no, they just took over one ship? It would have made more sense if they were going to planet to help defend their old enemies
I liked the storyline, the complexity and cleverness of it. The characters were pretty good and the backstory to the romance was great too. But for some reason I just didn’t get fully drawn in to the story. I’m not quite sure what was missing for me, but it was easy to put down and walk away for ages, and tbh I was a little reluctant to get back into it - which is not normal for me. Maybe I’m just in a tricky reading phase 🤷♀️
This was a solid addition to the series. Once you start hitting this far along I find a lot of the story to feel very same & familiar. I really liked Nevrik’s character. He knew what he wanted and worked to get what he wanted Tyonna. I honestly think Tyonna’s character is the first character in the series to truly address the differences in her species & the Scelks with absolute acceptance. I enjoyed the author taking time to write about the Scelk origins and what the implications of that are.
It took me awhile to get known with the world and characters as it had been awhile since I read book8. I had to write down the couples names and if they were human, xian, dragon, scroll, etc etc
Once I remembered them, it was a blast to read this book. I really enjoy this serie and liked nevrik and h.
Can’t wait to read book 11 , I am curious about the ending of the war started by Giles. Also Rogue and Shuria, interesting couple.
I waited with bathed breath to this refreshing storyline and It’s not disappointing, quite frankly it kept me up with chuckles and lots more emotions. This is truly a wonderful plot to enjoy. I certainly recommend the whole series. And cannot wait for Nathalie’s story.❤️💫💫
Wow I loved this stunning story as Nevrik is finally noticed by his fated mate Tyonna. They have to navigate many twists and turns, dangers and difficulties as they navigate towards a heated, romantic relationship while undergoing a dangerous mission. I highly recommend reading this entertaining tale. This is my honest opinion.
After gorging on books 1 - 10 of Regine Abel's Xian Warriors, I need to let other readers know this is a great set of reads ! Each book has something different to offer the reader containing the characters. They are put together with each interesting character adding more to the plot each time they appear. Well worth taking the time to binge read all of them.
Another great book in the series. Regine Abel is one of my favorite authors in this genre. The world building is addictive and the characters just draw you in. I love to meet all the characters from the previous books. It's like one big family. Can't wait to read the next book.
Conclusion:
Regine Abel never disappoints. Highly addictive Alien Romance.

Nevrik and Tyonna are a force to be reconned with. I very much enjoyed this story. It had feelings and heat, action and cleverness. I’m looking forward to the next book! I read an ARC and this is my honest review.
As always Regine Abel writes such great worlds with such deep characters. Love the complexity of this relationship. The understanding between the hero and heroine is just chef's kiss.
I’ve always felt the Scelks needed more story and I glad they got it, there was so much pain and suffering on just them becoming it needed addressing. I love how Nevrik is with Tyonna and while I didn’t warm to her straight away I did end up loving her for Nevrik.
