When elite university professor Keaton Andrews walks into a meeting with the dean, he expects to hear that his tenure application is on track. Instead, his beloved department is cut. Regrouping in Silver Falls with family seems like his best option. One morning, he takes a risk and orders a pumpkin spice latte from the beautiful barista at the local coffee shop. Too bad she doesn’t seem to find him nearly as intriguing as he finds her…
Raine Hanover is no longer swayed by a charming smile, especially by a nerdy—and distractingly handsome—academic. She’s taking a break from romance and focusing on running her increasingly busy coffee shop. But when Raine is involuntarily put in charge of organizing the town’s Halloween bash, Keaton jumps in to help, and it’s not long before sparks, and kisses, fly.
As the leaves begin to fall, Raine wonders if she should risk taking another chance on happily ever after, especially with a man who has dreams and goals so far away from Silver Falls and her.
I live in the Pacific Northwest with my husband, two daughters, son, dog and too many cats! I write "sweeter" contemporary romance novels for Harlequin and Tule Publishing.
Sweet romance set in Silver Falls, Washington, about a barista (Raine Hanover) and a university professor/writer (Keaton Andrews) who end up working together to organize the town’s Halloween “Boo Bash” and end up falling for each other. But how will it work out? Keaton is only there temporarily while he’s looking for a new job, and Raine isn’t looking for romance after her break-up with her boyfriend.
This was a nice, clean, and wholesome read. I really liked the autumn setting of the book, it was good to read around Halloween. I enjoyed reading about all the yummy lattes Raine created, with pumpkin flavors, spices, with cream on top, they all sounded so delicious! I liked both Raine and Keaton, they were opposites attracting. The secondary characters were interesting and have their own stories in other books in the “Silver Falls” series.
A Cup of Autumn is book three in the Silver Falls series by Melissa McClone. First, I want to draw attention to this beautiful cover. It just drew me right in. I love reading seasonal books and this was so sweet. All the talk of the different pumpkin spice drinks made me want to try them all.
Assistant Professor Keaton Andrews has a dream. To be a tenured professor at an elite college. And he thinks that is what he is on track for after teaching at his current job for six years. He thinks that is what he is being called in to the dean’s office for but the news wasn’t what he wanted. His department is being cut so he finds himself without a job. He goes to Silver Falls, Washington where his sister and brother live to spend some time job hunting and regrouping. Helping out with the community Halloween Festival certainly wasn’t on his to do list.
Raine Hanover is the owner of the Tea Leaves and Coffee Beans coffee shop in Silver Falls. Owning her own business is her dream come true and she loves Silver Falls. But she’s been having employee issues and has been working non stop. She’s exhausted. So when she is elected without her approval to head up the Halloween Festival, she is completely overwhelmed.
Raine’s first impression of Keaton was that he is a nerdy, slightly pompous intellect. The opposite of her type. Which is fine because Raine has been hurt by her now ex boyfriend and she has no time for men. But when Keaton offers to help her with the Halloween Festival, she can’t turn down the help.
The more time these two spend together, the more they realize the other is so much more than they ever thought. And attraction blooms. But Raine has no time for a relationship and Keaton is only in town temporarily until he finds his new dream job. But maybe she could just go on a couple of practice dates. Only the practice dates start to feel very real.
This was such a sweet book. These two were so cute together and I loved that what they thought they were attracted to isn’t what they needed at all. This little town is adorable and I would love to sit in Raine’s coffee shop and try her different concoctions. This was a fun little book and I’m so glad I read it.
A quaint coffee shop setting, an autumn tea blend, and a Halloween celebration are all things I love but, unfortunately, this book didn’t really work for me. The amount of characters in this book was way too many. Especially when they all over lapped and each belonged in 2 settings and 🤯🤯 -I couldn’t keep up. I can safely say this book had more characters I was supposed to care about than any other book I’ve ever read. The chapters were long and the ending was too rushed. I get that it’s fiction but I need some substance to the characters relationships instead of rushing down the aisle.
Overall, this book was a quick read and I’m 100% inspired to find a new fall tea blend. 🍂
This was more of a 3.5. It was really cute! I felt like I was reading a Hallmark movie. I loved the atmosphere of Silver Falls. I loved that they were putting on a Boo Bash and that Raine ran the local coffee shop. I’d love to run a coffee shop but I don’t like mornings so… Keaton is in Silver Falls staying with family because he recently lost his teaching job due to budget cuts. He goes to Raine’s coffee shop daily to send out resumes and work on a novel he is writing. He also tried every pumpkin spice drink that Raine has on the menu (I don’t blame him). When Raine gets stuck putting together the town’s Boo Bash Keaton steps in to help her out. It’s a grand success and with some forced proximity and lots of time together they start to fall for each other.
5 Stars What a pleasurable read. I haven’t read the first two books of this lovely series but I plan to ASAP. This book put me in the mood for the upcoming holidays and I just can’t stop smiling. I loved all of the characters, and while the main protagonists were amazing characters, the secondary characters are what sealed my enjoyment of this book. I have read this author many times before and have never been disappointed. I absolutely recommend this book if you’re looking for light angst, a picturesque small town and the happiest of happily-ever-afters.
While I was given an advanced reading copy of this book, my review is honest and unbiased and I thank you for taking the time to read it.
Exhibit A of why romances don’t need to end in marriage, but just in a committed relationship — im supposed to believe that after a couple weeks of not-dating and two months of broken up, radio silence that these two are ready to get engaged? And then after another one (1) month they’re married? And that’s a happily ever after?
I’d be more inclined to believe they’re happy together forever if they’re “just” dating at the end of this.

Looking for a delightfully fun, sweet fall romance read? Look no further than A Cup of Autumn by Melissa McClone, the standalone third book in her Silver Falls series.
This story was everything I didn’t know I needed. With an overworked coffee shop owner and a loveable yet snobby college professor, A Cup of Autumn put a smile on my face and had me ordering my first-ever fall drink. It was hard not to fall in love with the main and secondary characters, who all burrowed themselves into my heart.
Raine Hanover is the owner of Tea Leaves and Coffee Beans. She’s living her dream of owning her own coffee shop but is too tired to truly enjoy its success. Business is booming but she’s in desperate need of employees to even out the workload. Unfortunately for her, she has just been selected to run this year’s Boo Bash by the First Avenue Business Association and they have strict rules and penalties for failing to carry out a task once named to do so.
Keaton Andrews’ life is on track. He’s an assistant professor of Scandinavian Studies at a tier-one university. He just needs to bide his time until he becomes a tenured professor. But due to budget cuts, he now finds himself without a job and low prospects. He decides to spend some time with his siblings in Silver Falls, Washington, while he awaits any job opportunity that he feels will get his life back on track.
Margot, his brother-in-law’s aunt, offers to let Keaton stay with her, while he’s in Silver Falls. Too bad for Keaton, he has no idea that Margot loves to play matchmaker and has her eyes set on fixing him up with Raine. Convinced to work together on the Boo Bash, Raine and Keaton slowly find themselves drawn to each other. But how much of a future can the two really have when Raine has finally found a place to call home in Silver Falls, and Keaton’s dream job is potentially on the other side of the country?
A Cup of Autumn is a small town, opposites attract story that you will most definitely fall in love with.

If they said “Boo Bash” one more time, I swear I was going to throw the book at the wall. It was a fine story, and if you are into sweet little romances with no spice other than a kiss, this may be the book for you. I just found it lacked anything substantial and felt like worse than a hallmark movie. I will say once you go down the spicy rabbit hole it’s really hard to come back to books like these, but that’s just me.
2.75 stars A Cup of Autumn is a really sweet story, with a super cute cover and perfect Fall-feeling to it. Unfortunately, the enemies to lovers trope isn’t my favorite, and this theme is one that’s been repeated many times before.
A Cup of Autumn is the story of an over-worked barista and an ambitious professor who lost not only his tenure, but also his position at his university. He has come back to Silver Falls to be near his family while plotting his next steps. While Keaton has never suffered from a lack of confidence, he’s learning to expand his boundaries and reconsider some of his perspectives. Raine is intrigued by the nerdy professor who sits in her cafe everyday, but she’s well aware he thinks he’s too good for her. When he surprises her by stepping in to help out, in more ways than one, she has to let go of her own prejudices and consider he might be worth a relationship, even though he’s too big for a small town.
This story is the third in a series, but can be read as a standalone. I didn’t quite connect with Kenton’s character, but I loved the coffee shop setting and the Boo Bash. A Cup of Autumn definitely has festive Autumnal vibes with cute Halloween elements, but ultimately this opposites attract story was a bit too predictable to keep me engaged in the story.
The first 3/4 of this book was decently cute and very Hallmark-esque which I always enjoy. The last portion lost me a bit though. It ended up being super rushed and the conclusion honestly made no sense at all.
Was looking for a sweet & cheesy book that was essentially a pumpkin spice drink in book form, and this delivered. Pretty well-written and a good length, with the right amount of charm & predictability!
It was very cute, like a hallmark movie. I wish the author went into more details about the growth of their relationship. I felt like it went from friends to lovers without much background. We all knew they would end up together, but I wish there was more about their alone time and growing of the relationship that brought them to loving each other. Overall, a cute story!

A Cup of Autumn has been such an easy story to read. It’s a sweet opposites-attract romance set in Silver Falls, a town where the Andrews siblings have been finding love when they least expected to. This story is third in the series and stars cute, nerdy Keaton Andrews, who’s just had his Scandinavian Studies department axed by the prestigious university where he was an associate professor. He’s come to stay in Silver Falls while he looks for a new position. Keaton is book smart but not very worldly. He’s a bit of an academic snob, looking down on positions that don’t require a university degree. I loved watching him discover that running a coffee shop and working as a barista is every bit as worthy a career as a university professorship. Raine Hanover is a lovely character. I adored the way she got Keaton to unwind. Her selection of pumpkin coffees is truly mind-boggling and they certainly helped to bring out the playful side of Keaton. They were also pivotal in creating a real sense of autumn as the story unfolded. The title of this book is so, so appropriate! It’s such a sweet story. It was a pleasure to read.
I tried and made it half way through this book, but even after reading to the half way mark, there wasn’t anything interesting or exciting to keep my attention. The characters weren’t very likable or engaging, and they just repeated their thoughts over and over again. I wasn’t even invested in seeing how the Boo Bash turned out. Overall, it was just boring.
Great book with lots of autumn settings... and love in the air... but I also enjoyed how the author helped us think about our attitudes towards others... social status... learning styles.. etc.
2.5 Typical romance story. The girl feels like she’s not ready to date and then the perfect guy comes along. I felt like everything moved very fast and if you think about it they were married within 2 months. I did love that it was clean and I loved all the fall aspects of it 🧡
A charming, straight to the heart romance. McClone proves that sometimes simple can be the most irresistible. A Cup of Autumn turns deep emotion into a flavorful experience.
I couldn’t finish this book. The writing was horrendous and it didn’t appear to be edited at all. Granted it’s a quick read with me getting to 60% quickly but it’s truly not worth the time.
This was such a cute small town romance with all the feels! Keaton and Raine are perfect for each other in every way! I thought the little tea and coffee shop that Raine owns is super cute. I thought it was sweet of Keaton to help Raine with the boo bash that she was being forced to put together. They worked so well together and definitely got the sparks flying. Really liked this one!! Definitely recommend picking it up.
This is a cute cozy read. Perfect for October and the fall. Silver Falls is a cozy little place to live. Some parts of the book are cheesy. It is confusing with different people in the book. Trying to remember who is who. It's a cute cozy book. If you are just looking for an easy cozy read you should like it.
This was so, so cozy. A few too many ‘wait… what?’ style lines to make it a 5 star, but the 3rd act split was surprisingly gut-wrenching. Keaton and Raine are so cute. It’s a perfect autumn read. The vibes are there!
I bought the other three in the series and I’m definitely looking forward to reading ‘The Christmas Window’ in December!
This book was a good time. it was clean and not raunchy. Some of the events were predictable, and the ending felt rushed. Overall, it was a good cozy book.

Adorable, sweet, slow burn. But no spice. The ending left me going WTF at the super abrupt 0-to-100 life choices. I get it, it’s cute but…WTF. I guess that’s why they call it fiction!
