When you wish upon a star, sometimes your dreams come true…
When her high-rise career tanks, urbanite Dacey Adair returns to her northern Michigan hometown of Christmas Tree Cove in need of a reset. Early one morning while prepping for her seasonal job on a fishing charter, Dacey makes a half-hearted wish on the harvest moon to bring her the man of her dreams.
A few blinks later, she finds a naked man clinging to her boat.
Local heartthrob Luke La Fontaine has led a charmed life. He’s recently become famous for his TikTok videos demonstrating the art of cheesemaking while surrounded by adorable farm animals. His handmade, small batch cheese is much sought-after by foodies. But what he really needs is a business strategy.
It’s the perfect recipe to set Dacey back on the path to success, but as she and Luke spend more time together, her goals blur. Is this an off-season fling or will their connection age to perfection?
Sarah Vance-Tompkins was born in a small town in northern Michigan. She spent every summer exploring the sugar sand beaches near Sleeping Bear National Park. She left her heart behind when she moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California. She received an MFA in Film Production and went on to work in feature film development in Hollywood. She has worked as a reporter for a weekly entertainment trade publication, and been paid to write obituaries, press releases, the directions for use on personal lubricant bottles, and breathless descriptions of engagement rings for an online jewelry store. She lives in a small town north of Los Angeles with her husband and three cats.
I came across this on twitter thanks to a mutual follower, and the premise of cheesemaker and reluctant fisherperson was too much for me to resist. And i really enjoyed this! The heroine is a bit...grating at times, no cheese puns intended. But she's self aware about her flaws and despite there actually not being a ton of romantic build up, it's all very love at first sight and denial there's a romance, I really liked the hero and heroine together. The small town stayed mostly on the right side of twee and I liked the sequel bait characters. Glad I picked this up!
Thank you in advance to the author, Sarah Vance-Tompkins, for providing a complimentary review copy through Kate Rock Book Tours. A positive review was not required nor requested, and all words are my own.
Last year I read Vance-Tompkins’ On Christmas Tree Cove, the first book of the series. And, knowing it is a series – I HAD to read it.
Also, it was a bit interesting with Dacey making a wish for the man of her dreams and finding a naked man clinging to her boat.
There was also the “cheese-making” part of the plot that grabbed my attention too. It is definitely a rare profession – especially in a romance novel. And, then there’s the sweet, swoony, autumn cover.
Returning from the first book:
🎄Morgan Adair 🎄Jesse Taylor 💻 Dacey Adair 🎄 Kayla Adair 🍻 Eli Adair
In this latest story, the author introduces us to
🧀 Luke La Fontaine 🧀 Sophie 🧀 Alizeé
The author also expands the diversity of the character cast with a same-sex couple in this book. They are not the main characters, but they do have a substantial supportive role.
There will be a bit of “language” in this book, but it is mild and not repetitive. Variation of the “s”-word, the use of a$$, as well as the mention of a movie (Knives Out, PG-13) that might have questionable content for some.
According to Common Sense media, language and content contained in referenced: Language includes one "f--k," plus "s--t," "son of a bitch," "a--hole," and more. There's a bit of sex-related talk, and one character is said to have had an affair. People drink at a party, characters smoke cigars and pot (there's a secret stash of joints), prescription meds are injected, and there's dialogue about a morphine addict. This movie is NOT discussed in detail though, and only mentioned once in conversation.
That said …
The prologue is definitely interesting – Luke with a woman who has a boyfriend and a mad escape – sans pants. But, his situation will lead him to Dacey.
Dacey is on a boat thinking about how she does not wish for anything. If she did, it would be a job. She was fired from a company after a false sense of security from Hagen Kearney.
Though she ends up making a wish for a man.
She gets a call for a video interview which doesn’t end well – she needs a recommendation from Hagen to continue up the process. She ends up fishing Luke out of the water. Of course, he owes her – but doesn’t mean it – at first.
Dacey learns about Luke’s reputation from her family. Luke knows what is said about him, and some of it hurts him. What Dacey doesn’t know – his cheesemaking videos are popular on TikTok.
Dacey ends up helping chaperone a fourth (4th) grade field trip. After a series of “inappropriate” questions – Luke kicks her out. He does admit the questions are valid, but not in that setting. I definitely agreed with him. She was focused on business – all he wanted to do was teach the kids how cheese was made. As a kid, I would be more interested in the cheese making than business aspect. That was more appropriate for a college class on business.
She also is reminded by the Brentwood Group – she needs to update her recommendation information. That ends up being a good thing – by helping Luke, she helps herself as he can be her recommendation.
Though she admits, he makes her heart flutter, and he is attracted to her – she insists nothing is going on. Luke does suggest they have a “date”.
In the middle of Luke’s cheesemaking, Dacey trying to get back to her “real life”, the siblings are also managing Morgan’s wedding, and Kayla announces she’s pregnant. And, Dacey is trying to ignore everyone seeing that she and Luke have chemistry. Though her need to be right is something that is off-putting to Luke.
And, despite having fun working together – along with a dinner to an exclusive event – Luke watches as Dacey’s need to get back to her real life overshadows their friendship. Even more so after a call from a man in Dacey’s past.
Vance-Tompkins will have everyone reading up until the last pages for the happy-ending – and glad we’re all wearing pants in this sweet romance and business can work together kind of story.
The short chapters kept the story moving. The discussions of cheesemaking was absolutely entertaining and educational. Less so on the marketing part.
The language didn’t bother me too much. But, my main issue was Dacey’s constant need to get back to her “real life” in Chicago. I get that she enjoyed what she did, but her continual focus on it was a bit off-putting. Couldn’t she have started her own company? She had the business acumen, and she definitely had a need right there – her brother’s business as well as Luke’s.
In addition, the call – to Luke as well as me – had her going back with her career, not forward. I think Dacey needed to see this as a chance to reinvent herself or try something new.
As someone who doesn’t like seeing food thrown away (but agree on the spoiled/bad stuff), I loved the metaphor about getting rid of the old to make way for the new. Definitely something we all need to do from time to time in our lives.
While readers don’t have to read the first book to know what is going on, they should so they familiarize themselves with the Adair family and their history. And, there will be some spoilers in this book with reference to Morgan and Jesse.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and am definitely interested in reading the next book in the series.
I received this arc of Wishing for Mr. Right in exchange for my honest review. This is the second book in Sarah Vance-Tompkins’ series, The Adair Family. It was great to return to the sweet little town of Christmas Tree Cove, Michigan. We previously met the Adair siblings in book one of the series and this one features Dacey Adair. Dacey had gone to business school and was known for her brilliance. She lived in Chicago where she had a great job. As the book opens, Dacey has been fired unjustly for cause by the boss she had crushed on and worked closely with. She decides to come back to her hometown for the summer and regroup. Immediately, she gets a job helping out on one of the local tour boats. One morning when she sees the harvest moon she wishes for a man (rather than a new job which she desperately wants). Later, when she is having a zoom call interview on the boat, she finds a naked guy in the water, hanging on her boat and needing help. After her call, she helps him into the boat. She learns he is Luke La Fontaine. He thanks her for the help and heads out. Later, her family members give her the scoop on Luke, the gossip and rumors that are known about his personal life.
Luke, we learn is a cheese maker of excellent small batch products and a dairy farmer who co-owns his business with his sister Sarah. He is featured in many Tik Toc videos with his cute animals and his winning cheese. Unfortunately his reputation is that of a player and ladies man. There are also rumors about him having to leave college for an unknown reason where he was playing football. Dacey ends up at his farm with her sister’s school group for a tour. She asks lots of questions about his business and his plan, which he confesses he doesn’t have, and he ends up escorting her out. Later, he talks to her about creating a business plan and his struggles with his business.
Luke and Dacey spend a lot of time together as she’s going through his business records and she sees the real Luke. He also shares about his past and she realizes the stories going around him weren’t true. The two have a lot of chemistry but it is known she is just biding her time until she gets a new job back in the city. Dacey also spends a lot of time with her siblings and realizes that before she only saw them once a year if she was lucky. The Adairs start including Luke in their gatherings and he fits in with everyone. The characters are all so genuine and very likable. I love seeing Dacey and Luke together as well as their interactions with their siblings. There is some suspense and angst as to what Dacey will decide to do once the summer ends. It is a wonderful book that I highly recommend. It is a 5 star read and great addition to this series.
I read On Christmas Tree Cove about a year ago and loved it, and this second book in the series was even better! It can absolutely be read as a standalone though!
Dacey Adair returns to Christmas Tree Cove, her hometown in Michigan, after losing her marketing job in Chicago. One early morning, she makes a wish on the harvest moon to bring her the man of her dreams. The next thing she knows, she’s rescuing Luke La Fontaine, the “town tomcat” who has become TikTok famous for his videos demonstrating the art of cheesemaking while surrounded by adorable animals on his farm. There’s no way he can be her Mr. Right! Can he?
The opening scene of this book had me cracking up, as well as a scene involving Dacey chaperoning an elementary school field trip! This book also made my mouth water with so many descriptions of delectable fall treats, like cider and apple fritters! Luke’s cheese and the food at the harvest dinner he and Dacey attended sounded beyond amazing too! Luke and Dacey were the kind of characters I couldn’t help rooting for! I also adored how close Dacey was with her siblings, especially her brother, Eli, who was my favorite side character! Eli was right - Dacey and Luke definitely had chemistry! This sweet and charming romance gave me all the cozy fallish vibes I’ve been craving! I hope there will be a third book in this heartwarming series!
*Thank you to the author, publisher, and KRBT for my gifted review copy! All opinions are my own.
It has been awhile since I read a RomCom and I totally enjoyed this one. It is the perfect time of year to read Wishing for Mr. Right as it takes place at the beginning of fall in a little town called Christma Tree Cove.
Dacey Adair was fired from her job in Chicago as a Business Marketer and has spent the summer on a fishing boat back home. One morning she makes a wish on the Harvest Moon to find Mr. Right.
Town "tomcat" Luke LaFontaine is known around town as a heartthrob and local farmer. He and his sister Sophie run the family farm. Luke has started making artisanal cheese and has become a tiktok sensation.
One morning Luke has to make an escape from his one night stands home and jumps into the lake just about naked. He swims to the nearest fishing boat which Dacey is running. She helps him on board and she can feel the attraction. But this can't be Mr. Right?!
I laughed out loud at times with the witty and sarcastic banter between Dacey and Luke. I loved both their families and how they supported one another. This book is a quick read and I am looking forward to the next book.
This is book two in The Adair Family series and it is Dacey and Luke’s story. Dacey had a great job in Chicago until she was fired unjustly so she decided to go back to her home town for the summer so that she can think about what she wants to do next after what happened so now she is helping with tours but while on the boat she makes a wish only to find a naked man hanging on to the edge of the boat so she does the only thing that she can and that is to help him. Luke is known as a lady’s man and his reputation follows him but he is also a dairy farmer which he is co-owner with his sister Sarah and Luke’s passion is making cheese but he is struggling with his business and needs a plan and that is where Dacey comes in. The more time that Dacey and Luke work together the more there attraction and chemistry grows but Dacey has no interest in staying in her hometown and is just waiting to find a job in the city, so where does that leave them in the long run. I really enjoyed this book and it had you turning the pages and kept your attention throughout and I can’t wait to read more books by this author in the future.
Dacy returns to her hometown of Christmas Tree Cove to get a fresh start after her career tanks. Being a workaholic has insured she does not have a personal life. She is a mess. She takes a temporary seasonal job running charters while she figures out what to do next. While out on the boat she makes a wish on the harvest moon to bring her the man of her dreams. What she gets is town tomcat Luke La Faontaine naked in the water in need of rescuing. His poor choices have landed him naked and embarrassed in need of help. He is famous on tiktok for the art of making cheese. His good looks and use of cute farm animals in the background may have more to do with it than the actual cheese making. When she questions his business plan they both realize he needs help with his business. When they spend time building his business plan the sparks start to fly. Can she trust that Luke is more than his reputation? Is Luke ready to ask her to stay or does he love her enough to let her follow her dreams far away from him. Good read.
Wishing for Mr. Right by Sarah Vance-Tompkins is the second of the Adair siblings’ story featuring Dacey Adair. Having lost her job in Chicago she has come home for the summer. She feels sure her future is in an office somewhere else than Christmas Tree Cove. However wishes on the Harvest Moon changes plans. The book is all about how those changes come about with who and whether or not she accepts it all.
As for local heartthrob Luke La Fontaine, he has good points such as his passion for his business but he also has some major flaws. If he was a college age student this might seem adorable but as man it is time he learned to behave as an adult all the time. This was especially evident when Dacey and he met.
A romance that looked as if it would not work but the author does a great job showing how it can. How the characters grow as well as learn to work together. This made for a great romance.
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This sweet romance is delightful and has all the fall vibes, so it is the perfect book for all lovers of crisp autumn days!
Dacey Adair’s grandmother always told her to make a wish on the first moon of the harvest season in order to meet her true love. Frustrated and out of work, Dacey looks up into the night sky and unexpectedly makes her wish.
Meanwhile YouTube-famous Luke La Fontaine makes a similar wish as he stares at the sky. Suddenly Dacey finds a naked Luke clinging to her boat! And the sparks fly from that point!
I liked all of the characters, including the townspeople in this small town. Told from the alternating perspectives of Dacey and Luke, this charming storyline will hook your attention from the first page.
My thanks to @SarahVanTom @katerockbooktours @TulePublishing for my gifted copy and my spot on the tour. My thoughts are my own.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
While this is a part of a series, you don't have to read the prior one to fully understand and enjoy this one.
This book is written in a dual POV format. Getting that glimpse into the main characters thoughts really help me to identify and connect with them. It makes for a more enjoyable experience for me.
Having been on the peninsula several times, this was a joy to read. I felt like I was back there with the characters as they moved around.
The characters and the plot were written in such a matter that I really wanted the book to continue on. I adore the Adair family and look forward to more in this series.
Dacey was working for a company but because of some information that she had given her boss and the way he used the information she was let go with cause. She is highly competitive and always has to be right. She can't and won't admit she is wrong. She will just tell you that she wasn't right.
She comes home to Hillcrest house while she is looking for a new job and works on a fishing boat. She wishes on the Harvest Moon for the man of her dreams. Then she sees a man floating in the water and helps him out, only to find that he has no pants.
Check out this book I think you will enjoy it as much as I did.
Dacey is the only Adair sister who is still single. One night, she wishes for Mr. Right and she doesn’t realize she has him very close. It took her to go back to “her real life” to see him. Luke loves making cheese, but to create a great one it takes time, a lot of time. Sometimes he is not sure he is doing the right thing, but deep inside, he knows. He doesn’t do serious relationships, but after meeting Dacey, his mind starts thinking differently. I did enjoy this series. I loved how people stuck together to help in any way that was needed. I loved Mr. and Mrs. Kimura. They felt like family. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Loved this sequel to Vance-Tompkins’ “Christmas Tree Cove.” Classic bad boy with layers who turns into someone reliable and committed when he finds the right woman. And the heroine’s struggle to hear her own voice about what truly brings her joy and satisfaction reflects such a universal issue, it will likely resonate with most readers. And of course there’s the character of the town itself. Reading the Adair Family books makes me want to pack my bags and move to the Lake Michigan coast right now. Highly recommend.
Darcy has returned to Christmas Tree Cove, Michigan when she is fired because of her boss’s error. She wants to return to Chicago and her fast track life as a business analyst. When working on the boat, her part time job she wishes on the Harvest moon. A minute later Luke La Fontaine grabs hold of her boat freezing cold. They decide to help each other out and end up in love but neither will admit it. This is book 2 in the Adair series. A quick cute read.
One of the sweetest romances I have read in a while. The local “tomcat” and “just for the summer” city girl both wish on the harvest moon for someone to love. They find each other and wonder if their wishes brought them together because it sure feels like it. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What a sweet and funny read. Dacey and Luke were perfect for each other. I loved their story and the small town it took place in. You add in all the side characters and the animals and you have yourself a book that will not only make you smile but it will make you laugh out loud too. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Well, this was all kinds of delightful! Starting with one of the most original meet cutes I've read this book continued to bring all the happy. I enjoyed getting to know Dacey and Luke and watching them fall in love! This book was set in the Fall - my favourite season and Dacey and I both love Audrey Hepburn so I HAD to love it! So much to smile about!
Low angst. High sweetness (even if you hold the pumpkin) THERE IS A BABY GOAT. Even better, there are friends who are just friends, not living for the MC's love life. There are hobbies that they don't share. They are ppl with lives who get to add love into the equation, rather than love being the only thing.
A sweet romance where two very unlikely people meet quite unexpectedly but discover that they actually have more in common than they realize. They must push past the unfounded town gossip that plagues them both, their families meddling (but meddling in only a good way!) and they discover that love really does conquer all. A great read that I thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend.
Neither Luke or Dacay Were sure of their futures she was fired from her job be cause of her supervisor. He just wants to hefty his cheese making famous. Both wish on the Harvest Moon for True love. And right away meet! Fun, serious, obnoxious siblings and a gossiping little town! Great characters and a story!!
I really enjoyed the story. Glad that no sex scenes were involved. Luke met her in a very unusual way. You will have to read it to see how it happened. Luke lives on a farm creating different cheese. She directs a tour boat that she enjoys. The summer ends now she must find a different job.
This was a good read. I really liked Luke La Fontaine. The way he met Dacey was very interesting. The story was interesting enough to keep reading, but was not over-the-top great. I would recommend it if you are looking for an easy to read romance story.
Daley and Luke seemed to have little in common and both had grossly exaggerated reputions from gossip around town, but they each wished for a partner, even if it wasn't the one they were expecting.
Everything about this book is a delight, from the story to the characters. I adore the fall setting and thought the romance was absolutely swoony. Love
