Hunters hunt. Predators stalk. The union between the two could bring about a prophecy the world isn’t ready for.
Centuries of hunting bloodsuckers courses through my veins. Until I met the powerful Vampire Navy SEAL Sam Mason. He’s gorgeous, possessive, deadly, and all mine.
My family begs to differ. Since I crossed enemy lines, I’m a disgrace, lost my mind, and committed a sacrilege they want me to atone for.
My penance for sleeping with a vampire—lock me away until they can brainwash me.
But there are bigger things at play. It’s not me the Aberdeens should worry about.
Beneath Sam’s boyish charm lies a predator, a ticking time bomb ready to destroy anyone who dares to mess with him or those he cares about, especially me.
Yet he hasn’t met the Aberdeen matriarch. My human grandmother is sweet with a dash of salt and a sprinkle of acid to complement her personality. It’s a lethal combination that will burn the toughest of adversaries right down to the bone.
Nothing will stop her hunger for control, power, and to lead a genetically altered army of supernatural killers with me standing stoically by her side.
I’ll walk through the fires of hell before I become her lieutenant.
The players are set. Lines are drawn. Now, the battle begins.
The Union is book three in the continuing saga in this enemies-to-lovers, paranormal romance featuring Sam & Layla. Their story is rife with action, suspense, snarky banter, a slow-burn romance that’s sure to singe your e-reader and ends on a cliffhanger. This is an ongoing series that begins in The Hunted. For a better reading experience the books should be read in order.

Sam & Layla’s story continues in a fantastic and breathtaking story! This series has me hooked, and I am devouring every single word and having a hard time putting my kindle away! This book gives us a lot more intel about who’s all on the ‘wrong’ side, and it’s surprising! The author keeps you on your toes with the twists and turns, and still has you melting into a puddle in between!!!
Absolutely loved it and can’t wait for the next book! The suspense is killing me!
I kindly received an arc from the author and voluntarily left a review.
(audiobook) Though there was less of Sam and the story focused mostly on Layla, I was quite invested in this book. The pace was also much better, with a lot of action and twists packed in a shorter book.
After Sam’s kidnapping at the end of the previous book, he’s away for a while, and we follow Layla as she’s looking for him, butting heads with her family at every corner. After many revelations, she’s gonna have to choose a side. That was quite a character development after her complete devotion to her family. On top of that, it isn’t only Sam and her relationship with him she evaluates to make her decision, but she reflects on the Mason family and all their friends. I liked that.
Sam’s misfortunes don’t stop with the kidnapping, and between two bouts of unnatural sleep, he doesn’t get much time with his girl. But he still manages to move their relationship forward, and that was kind of cute. At the same time, Layla finally aknowledges her feelings, and everything seems to fall into place until, of course, something happens at the end of the book.
There are still a few reminiscences of the events of the past series and the first two books, but even when the pace is slowing and the characters have time to think, they rather try to understand the conspiracy they’re caught in, and find the bad guys.
My main complain is that Layla is on the verge of becomming a Mary Sue. Between all the powers she gets from her family–yes, a few secrets are revealed–and the ones that seem to come from her magical pregnancy and from Sam’s blood, she’s almost as powerful as the Mason family. Not exactly the kind of character I want to read about.
The narration was good. The female narrator definitely got better, and though the male narrator has fewer chapters, he always does well. I have a good feeling about the next book. Fingers crossed!
Quickie
- Series: Vampire navy SEAL: Sam & Layla #3 (ends on a cliffhanger, and references a lot another series by the same author) - Hashtags: #paranormal romance #military romance #romantic suspense #enemies to lovers #surprise pregnancy #vampire #vampire hunter - Triggers: violence and death, lots of blood, including blood play - Main couple: Layla Aberdeen & Sam Mason - Hotness: 4/5 - Romance: 4/5 - + Layla deciding who she wants to be, what she wants, and who she wants - – she has a really shitty family
The Union by SB Alexander is an enemies-to-lovers paranormal romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Blake Lockheart and Cecily Foster. This is the third book in the Vampire Navy SEAL: Sam & Layla series.
I am really enjoying the relationship between Sam and Layla. I liked that we got both of their points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
The book ended on a great cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait for the next book The Dawning to be released on October 18, 2022.
Blake and Cecily did a great job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to reading more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this series if you like enemies-to-lovers romance, paranormal romances, military romances, slow burn romances, or romantic suspense.
Layla Aberdeen’s family line has been hunting vampires for centuries. Then Layla meets vampire Navy SEAL Sam Mason and she gives in to her desires. Her family is furious. Sam is very protective of those he cares for, and that includes Layla. But Layla’s grandmother is also a worthy adversary who has mercilessly taken down many of their enemies. She is after control, power, and command of an army of supernatural killers, and she wants Layla to be standing with her. They are ready for battle. Will Layla be able to resist the pressure from her family? Or will they take stronger action to get what they want from her?
This story line continues to be action-packed and full of tension. It will pull the reader right in and never let go! Knowing the players, pick your side and be ready for the deadly battle. You won’t want to miss this one!
This series is killing me. It's like a series on TV. It will keep you glued to the pages. I suggest you read from the beginning since this is Sam and Layla's story. They all end is explosive cliffy. Layla's Uncle Ray had betrayed his family. She watched as Sam's body took on more shots from the SWAT guy then was kidnapped. She was frantic. Did Sam survive? Where did they take him? She and the baby need his blood. Sam and the wolf shifter Dane are in the experimental lab with Carly. It seems as though the entire Aberdeen family is in on trying to make an army of human vampires with their experiments. Holy cow! Now we know how many babies Layla is going to have.
Im absolutely loving this series Action packed. Susan absolutely knocked this book out the park. Love this author writing style also i love anything she's writes. The union continues were book 2 ended and sam and layla are back and what a rush this was. I really cant wait for the next in the series Find out what happens then pick up your copy today. #kbsbloggingandreviews
5 FANTASTIC STARS!! I loved Sam and Layla....their story was addicting and held my attention all the way through. The feels were out of this world and the storytelling was fantastic. I can't wait for more from this author.

I was liking this story but this one felt different and I’m not sure I like where it’s headed. I can’t get over how evil Layla’s sister is turning after like 2 days or whatever of brainwashing. She actively hates and wants to kill someone that saved her life who she hugged and thanked like a handful of days prior. But honestly it’s the story telling that is starting to bug me. It reminds me of H.M. Ward’s never ending serial The Arrangement. I’m going to continue with the next book and hope it gets better. But if it doesn’t, I probably won’t continue.
And once again as it’s getting to the good part………wham cliffhanger! I’m so hoping that these two get the ending they deserve. Now to wait till October for the next instalment
This was an intense beginning and carries you through. Warning, though, each book is a cliffhanger that draws you further into the story. By golly, wow, didn't see that one coming. At least one sister has some common sense. It's time to open some whoop your behind up.
Ahhhh this series gets better and better. Sam and Layla's story continues in The Union and you won't be disappointed. *****CLIFFHANGER***** I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Loved this book. Highly recommend. Really rooting for Sam and Layla to get their HEA but they have so many obstacles in their way. Can't wait for October. Need next book now!
I'm so invested in Layla and Sam being together but with so many obstacles in their way there's never a dull moment! And after that cliff hanger ending I can't wait to find out what happens next!
I really really should have checked how many books were in Sam & Layla’s story. 🙄 I stayed up till 3am devouring this book because I wanted to know how it ended. Turns out I have 4 more books to go haha so beware of the cliffhanger! This series is so good & I just want them to get their happily ever after with their surprises!
Just when you think you know what might happen with this series, you get thrown for another loop, a twist here and a turn there to put you completely off track. The cliffhanger at the end of this book? WOW! I did not see that one coming at all. The Union picks up where The Predator left off. I'm still sitting here with my jaw sitting on the floor. This author has definitely taken me for one heck of a ride and I'm not getting off any time soon. I'm about ready to toss my book across the room with the ending though!
Sam and Layla really need to catch a break or a breath of fresh air. They were just hitting their stride in their relationship when things blew up on them. Now Sam is missing and Layla is going out of her mind trying to find him, along with the rest of his family and his military unit. Her world seems like it is shattering around her. Her family isn't making it easy for her to love Sam. They are as dead set against him as they have always been. According to them, the only good vampire is a dead one and they won't rest until they have put an end to Sam and all vampires. Layla and her sister Jordyn are under the protection of the SEALs since their own family is now hunting them. They have gone from Montana to Chicago to Boston trying to find a safe place to rest. When they finally find Sam, Layla won't rest until they bring him home. After all, she has a specific reason to want her vampire lover to live.
This book ends on yet another cliffhanger. I'm coming to expect it with this Author. She leaves my heart pounding, my fingers gripping my book tightly so they turn white but I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm loving Sam and Layla's story and I can't wait to see how it gets resolved in the next book, The Dawning.
This is the 3rd instalment in the Vampire Navy SEAL: Sam & Layla series and it will not disappoint you in any way. But it is a series therefore you really need to have read the first two instalments to fully comphrend the whole plot.
This instalment the reader gets to witness the usual raw and emotional roller-coaster experiences that the Navy SEAL vampires are trust into to protect both the human and supernatural worlds and this time around a new evil presence in trying to destroy the vampires. They always say family ties make for a stronger bond but this time around it just might be that family is no longer the ideology of loyalty and trust for some players.
The characters of Sam, a tough, sexy and well, rather delicious sounding navy seal vampire and his opposition of Layla, a sexy red hair vampire hunter are just going to show how love holds no boundaries. But throughout the whole story the reader is supplied with so many wonderful characters, both good, bad and wonderfully sexy sounding. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole concept of the plot, great balance of romance, rather erotic at times, exciting sense of adventure, action and mystery, deception, and the idea of dreamscaping. Yet again another enticing and gripping story that left me hooked and really needing to see how things will pan out for everyone involved.
Oh, my God! What an amazing continuation of Sam and Layla’s story! I have no words! This third installment left me breathless. I couldn’t turn the pages quick enough to learn what happens next. The story continues right after where it stopped in the previous book. Sam, Layla and many of our favorite (and not so favorite) characters find themselves yet again on a head spinning rollercoaster. The jaw-dropping revelations continue throughout the story and the stakes are higher than ever for Sam, Layla and their present (and yet-to-come) family. Love, hurt, betrayal, danger are a few of the words that can describe the thrilling story that I can’t get enough of. I couldn’t put the book down and the end left me in agony to see what happens next, as the danger is great. The next book can’t get out soon enough!
All in all, it was a well-deserving 5 star read. I am so hooked on this story and I am rooting hard for our beloved couple, Sam and Layla. If you haven’t start their story yet, please by all means, do. You won’t get disappointed. Well done S.B.Alexander – I can’t wait to see what else you have in store for our heroes!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Sam has been captured, and Layla is basically falling to her death at the end of book 2. She’s saved my Steven Mason. Layla doesn’t like listening to anyone which causes so many problems for her. She has to learn that now it’s not just her she has to care for since she’s pregnant. Of course Layla’s first thought I’d to run headlong into whatever is happening to get answers. This is how we find out who’s behind Sam’s capture, where he is, and at least part of the plan they have been working towards. Sam is determined to save himself. When first captured, his powers weren’t working. Now it seems as though whatever drugs are being pushed into his system is making them stronger. He also finds himself in a room with Dane Grey. They realize they have a common enemy and are probably going to have to work together to defeat them. There are lots of hurdles to overcome in order to keep Layla safe especially during the pregnancy from her family. It’ll be interesting to see how Sam and Layla are able to find their enemies and save everyone from the experiments that are taking place.
😳 It's official folks.... my jaw is still on the floor after that brilliant and explosive cliffy!!!! My goodness!! Prepare yourself now 😉 This book is PHENOMENAL in every sense of the word!!!! I just can't get enough! Expertly crafted characters, and a rich multi layered world that gets more interesting with each consecutive book! Sam and Layla get more than their fair share of MASSIVE surprises and reveals in this gem of a read. Many are even life changing! Through it all we get our fair share of action, action, and yes...MORE action 😉, witty banter, adrenaline, awesome females, alpha males, classic villains, and some seriously twisted family dynamics in the mix. Suffice to say you'll feel ALL the feels in this one, and you will NOT be bored. I highly recommend this book. If you've yet to check out the series, run don't walk and grab book 1. What are ya waiting for? You won't regret it 😉💖.
I have a very love/hate relationship with this series. Don’t get me wrong, I love Sam and Layla, I love the story, but I hate cliff hangers. Each book I know will end with the set up to the next, and each book of the three so far has ended with my heart stopping. You can’t read this out of order. Normally I am one that will say go ahead and start wherever, but not these. Sam and Layla’s journey has to be in order.
I really don’t want to give away much away. In this one we meet Layla’s grandmother, and she is scary. Her plans? The Vampire SEALs, Layla, her sister Jordyn, and their allies have a huge fight ahead of them. The new enemies have plans that might even out due what Sam’s uncle tried. The war is starting, and I have no idea how I am going wait for the next book.
There is a reason I don't subscribe to Kindle Vella: I hate cliffhangers! That being said, I knew this series was going to be a continuation from book to book - in other words, cliffhangers were expected. Moving onward... The Union is the third book in the Vampire SEALS and follows Sam and Layla. Layla is pregnant with Sam's baby and as word of the pregnancy begins circulating, Sam and Layla must stay ahead of their enemies if they are to have a life together. The Union is written by one of my favorite authors. Her writing and plot are crisp and her characters fully fleshed out. As I write this review, my mind is already anticipating the next book, wondering where this series will take me in book 4. 5 stars
Starting right from the last book, Layla is falling from the sky as Sam is taken by helicopter. These books need to be read in order because the story continues and each ends on a cliffhanger, so be prepared to wait. Sam and Layla are continuing to fight against the Aberdeens and trying to understand their new goals. Do they want vampires gone? Or do they want to use them as the ultimate soldier? There’s a lot more action in this book than the others. It’s definitely sexier, grittier and violent but none of that distracts from the story. It’s a thrilling series if you enjoy suspense with paranormal twists. I’ve read an early copy and written this review voluntarily.
Great characters with plenty of action along with some strong emotional drama. The cliffhanger from book two starts this 3rd book and immediate heart stopping action. Don't worry it never really stops moving quickly with lots of action and new players thrown into some things I just did not see coming. Layla and Sam just don't seem to get a break. This love story reaches deep into your soul and keeps you reading well into the night. When they get a break it seems new threats are 2 steps ahead. My goodness the author really understands her readers and digs deep into our psyche and heart and pushing the limits. Absolutely love this series but waiting for the next book is HELL!
S.B Alexander once again delivers another home run right outta the ballpark with the continuation of Sam and Laylas emotional rollercoaster of a love story . Suspenseful, intriguing, dark , raw , gritty , angsty , romantic, second chance , off the charts chemistry, page tuner , breathtaking, twists and turns, vampires , navy seals , enemies, supernatural killers , protective alphas and kickass heroines , tension , push and pull , unforgettable and unputdownable. I can honestly say that there has never been a book I have read by S.B Alexander that I have not genuinely loved and I’ve pretty much read them all as she is one of my very favorite authors not to mention so freaking talented. a
Wow, I had to read this in one sitting! This series just gets better and better. The story line is rich and fast paced, there are so many twists and turns I’m sure to get whiplash (in a good way!) Mrs Alexander has a way of drawing you in to her characters, so much so, I drew a deep breath when this book ended, not only due to the cliff-hanger she has left me dangling on, but because I wasn’t ready to step out of Layla and Sams world. Great series, wonderful characters and a fast paced storyline. What more can a reader want!
I can’t get enough of Sam and Layla. This world of supernaturals and humans is addictive reading!
