He’s a single dad and my new boss. He’s scorching hot, with gorgeous dark eyes and a smile that makes me burn up every time he looks at me. Too bad he’s ten years older, with trust issues and more layers than my psych degree could ever unwrap.
I shouldn’t fall into bed with him, not to mention let my heart get involved. But he makes me feel things I never expected to feel.
She’s my son’s nanny, and a student at the university where I’m a professor. Seeing her play with my kid, hearing her laugh from the bedroom across the hall, watching her walk by with those legs that would look amazing over my shoulders… it’s the best kind of torment.
I should know better than to pursue this attraction, no matter how intense. I haven’t wanted a woman since my wife died. But she makes me want things I never thought I’d want again.
I need to stay professional, but she’s too tempting.
Tempt is a steamy, swoony forbidden romance in the addictive Off-Limits series. It can be read as a complete standalone!
Piper Lawson is a Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author of smart, steamy romance! She writes about women who follow their dreams (even the scary ones), best friends who know your dirty secrets (and love you anyway), and complex heroes you’ll fall hard for (especially after talking with them). Brains or brawn? She’ll never make you choose. Piper lives in Canada with her tall, dark and brilliant husband. She believes peanut butter is a protein, rose gold is a neutral, and love is ALWAYS the answer.
I love reading age gap romances, all day everyday. And Kat and Daniel's book was no exception.
They were a really cute couple. Daniel fel attracted to Kat since the first time he saw her at the club and his attraction was getting bigger and bigger every single time he saw her. He didn't wanted to act on the attraction, because he felt like he doesn't deserve this. Thankfully for Kat, she was able to change his mind.
She was really strong and feisty. She was also in love with Daniel since she met him at the club, but she didn't wanted to admit it. She was good with his son and was funny.
What I liked in particular a good side was that she wasn't following him strongly and badly. She was waiting for him to make the first step, which of course happened 😁.
The steamy scenes and the attraction between were perfect. They were literally on 🔥 when it was about the heat they were feeling.
***ARC was provided by Valentine PR and this is my voluntary review.***
Tempt, the fourth book in the Off-Limits series is a steamy read with some of my favorite, swoon-worthy tropes. After all, who doesn’t love a forbidden, age-gap romance?
While this story does read as a stand-alone, I could tell that I would’ve enjoyed it more if I’d read the previous three books in the series. Of the glimpses we saw, Sawyer and Olivia already hold a special place in my heart.
As for our protagonists, Kat and Daniel, they too captured my heart. Kat, our wild and spirited female lead, built an unbreakable bond between her and Andy- Daniel’s son; one I wish we could’ve seen more of. There were moments when we, as the readers, are told about conversations that took place between the pair, rather than shown. These scenes are essential not only to Andy’s character development but also to the audience’s understanding of the dynamic between Daniel and his son and why having Kat, as a nanny and even perhaps as more, is crucial. Applying this tactic for the sake of keeping up the pace took away from the depth of the story, making it feel surface-level at best. There were so many scenes that were glossed over that truly would’ve taken the characters and their story to the next level.
The novel was fast-paced, an aspect I would’ve been able to appreciate more if there were fewer points of conflict. When creating an emotional connection between the reader and the character, there needs to be a core moment that aligns with the narrative of the subplots that define who the character is and why. Whatever this moment may be, it needs to stand out amongst the rest, not become an equal counterpart. In this story, we learn about our main female protagonist’s backstory in the spur of the moment; no foreshadowing to build up to a sole climax. Using this structure makes the story seem unorganized and poorly planned. I loved the idea behind each conflict, but the story would’ve needed to be significantly longer for these moments to live up to their potential. After each chapter, I just kept wanting MORE. The bones of the story are the most difficult part, and I can say without a doubt, the author nailed it. But it’s when we get to the embellishments that the novel falls short. There needs to be a deep understanding of who the characters were, are, and will be and why on the author’s behalf before the audience can root for them. When writing, authors need to be their story’s biggest supporter and that means taking risks.
In regards to the caliber of writing, I found it to read immaturely, but nevertheless, in a slightly enjoyable manner. The tone isn’t so unbearable that it becomes unreadable.
Overall, it was a light and easy read; one that I by no means regret. It’s invigorating to discover and take a chance on new authors. While this story may not’ve been for me, I don’t doubt that it could be someone else's favorite.
Thank you to Valentine PR and Piper Lawson for providing me with this ARC. As always, all opinions are my own and are not influenced by early access to this title.
My rating : 🌟🌟🌟🌟 H : Daniel h : Kat Age Gap : ✅ Standalone : ✅ Part of a Series : ✅ Off-Limits Book 4 Boss Employee Romance ✅ (Nanny)
Kat and Daniel are at the same university - with one big difference. Kat is a student and Daniel is a professor. Both of Kat’s roommates have moved out, and she knows she will no longer be able to afford her rent. Daniel is a widower with a young son. Even being a young professor, he is still ten years older than Kat. They met once before at a party and by chance they bump into each other again at a supermarket and end up having dinner together at Daniel’s house. He sees how good she is with his eight year old young son, Andy.
Daniel needs a nanny to help with Andy. It seems like a win-win situation and Daniel offers Kat the job. Andy would have a nanny and it would also solve Kat’s living arrangements, now that she is roommate-less. Kat is surprised by the offer : “Daniel, you picked me up in the frozen food aisle buying ice-cream to go with my cupcakes for dinner. What part of that screams ‘trust me with your only child’?
I loved how their relationship developed. Daniel is devoted to being the best father he can be to Andy and has not wanted another woman since losing his wife . . . well until Kat starts living with him and he hears the sound of his son laughing again. “Why does it feel as if there’s suddenly oxygen when I’ve been struggling to breathe for ages?” Kat is also conflicted, “Having feelings for your older boss who’s single and a widower is the definition of complicated”
This was my first Piper Lawson book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will definitely be reading her other books in the Off-Limits series.
Having read the 3 previous books in Piper Lawson's steamy Off Limits series, I was very much hoping Sawyer's fellow professor friend and neighbor, Daniel and Olivia's bff, Kat, would get their own story next and lucky for me- my wish was granted!!! Does a reader need to read the previous 3 books to enjoy this one? Nope, Tempt can stand on its own, but there's a ton of ansgty goodness to be had and backstories to delve into in this Russell U world if you have time for a nice, juicy binge! Every book, including this one, features one of my all time favorite tropes- age gap, sometimes with a side of forbidden attraction!!
Since Daniel's wife passed, he's been careful to focus his attention on his 8 year old son's happiness but leaves his own on the back burner. This little family's lives are about to change for the better when the lovely, free spirited, upbeat Kat drops, like the badass she is, into his structured, controlled world and rocks it off its foundation! She is a fun, quirky, independent 4th year psych student, looking towards her future and younger by 10 years. So, why is he offering her a job as Andy's nanny and how did those words seem to fall right out of his mouth before he could stop himself. OMG, let the fun begin!
Talk about opposites attract!! There were some awkward moments between easy going Kat and Daniel's more serious side as she gets thrown into the deep end, caring for his sweet, precocious son while taking classes and living full time in their home. It's hard to resist this gorgeous single dad, who unknowingly oozes heat everywhere he goes. Just being around him sends her almost over the edge- in a good way of course! Daniel doesn't stand a chance where Kat is concerned either after being alone for far too long. She's a giver of warm, cozy hugs that his son loves and needs in his life and is a breath of fresh air disguised as a chaotic whirlwind. Kat wings her way into their hearts, bringing confusion, hilarity and just what this father and son didn't know they needed. Can love and a new chapter in their lives be closer than they think?
I loved revisiting the town of Elmwood and what a delicious bonus to was to see what the sexy residents of Russell U's 'Hot Prof Lane' are up to again. This was a light, less ansty story with those characters I was so looking forward to knowing more about. Tempt is a perfect book to lose yourself in for a few hours, with a guaranteed HFN and a happy feeling after turning that last page. Am a dying for more Hot Profs? Hmmm, do you really need to ask?
A received an early copy of this book to read and review. These are my honest and freely given thoughts after reading it.
3.5 - we have great steam and emotional ups and downs, with this one perhaps the most tense of them all. Ultimately, these two find an HEA that they deserve, but it's a hard and arduous process getting there. But what a journey.
"She changed everything. Her easy smile. The way she teases me. How much she cares about Andy. My life has gotten better, but I’m realizing how precarious it all is."
My first book by Piper Lawson and I absolutely ADORED this book so so much! Kat and Daniel were everything, and they were seriously the cutest couple ever. The way they both found each other and they overcame every problem they had together made my heart so so happy. And omg i ADORED Andy so so much, he is the sweetest kid ever. There were so many scenes with Kat and Daniel that just made me so happy seeing them together and the way they both always needed each other was the sweetest. AND THE EPILOGUE!! The ending was truly the best and seeing everyone together was the best <3
Definitely go read this because it was amazing!
Thank you so much to Valentine PR and Piper Lawson for this ARC!! I adored reading this book so so much
Thank you Valentine PR for Tempt! Tempt was such a cute book and gave me all of the tingles and fuzzies while reading ir! this book had so many of my favorite tropes!
- single dad -age gap -nanny -forbidden and on top of that is was HOT AS HELL!
I really related to Kat and her struggle to fine purpose in life in college. it’s so hard to know what you want you want to do wirh your life so young and I really loved kat’s representation of confused college student hahha.
Andy, Daniel’s son was so adorable! I loved the dynamic between Andy and Kat. It’s so wholesome to see the missing piece in people’s life enter the picture.
Daniel and Kat were so cute as well! I could feel the tension coming off the pages and it kept me on the edge of my seat!
I can’t wait to read more from Piper Lawson! this was great :))
This was my first book from this author and I was excited to start it! I love a good age gap trope and this one had all the tension and steam I wanted! I felt that the storyline could've been developed a little more, but overall, it was still a good book! It had great spice and I look forward to reading the other books in this series, as well as more from this author!
I haven’t dabbled too much in the nanny/single parent trope but I really enjoyed this! The chemistry was hot, the yearnin’ & burnin’ was incredible and I really liked Kat’s character. Too bad there aren’t any other books in this series, but it was a fun ride!
I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.
Let me start by saying that you don’t have to read the previous three books (= trilogy) before reading this story. (The trilogy tells the story about another student Liv and sexy Sawyer, who’s her very handsome but also very forbidden professor). ‘Tempt’ can perfectly be read as a standalone but if you have read the trilogy, you will see many familiar faces again.
This story is about Katrina (but everyone calls her Kat) who’s a 22 year old psychology student and Daniel, who’s 10 years older and a professor at Russell U. Daniel’s a widower (his wife passed away a few years ago) and now he’s raising his 8 year old son, Andy alone. Something that isn’t always easy. Kat and Daniel got to know each other when their best friends (Liv and Sawyer) started dating. Their contact is superficial (although there was definitely chemistry between them the first night that they met) but then Kat’s two roommates (and best friends) Liv and Jules decide to move out their apartment and move in with their sweethearts, leaving Kat alone. When Daniel hears about this, he offers Kat a job as a nanny and a room in his house. Kat accepts the offer, Andy is a sweet kid so that makes the job easy and fun. Of course, the fact that her new boss is hot and sexy makes the job even more interesting. Although both Daniel and Kat start with the best intentions, Daniel really needs help with his son and Kat really wants to help Daniel and Andy but soon the chemistry between them is too great to ignore. Soon they are crossing the line between boss and nanny and having naughty, sexy time in private. Is it only a fling or is it more? Only time will tell.
‘Tempt’ was a great story. Just like the other stories of this writer, it was well-written, entertaining, a bit emotional but nothing heavy, just enough to give a light story a bit more depth. There were a few sex scenes in the story and you got both POV’s. I liked both Kat and Daniel very much. Although they were very different in character (Kat’s more of a free spirit, cheerful, funny, kind and Daniel is more mature, responsible and calm), they complemented each other well. Daniel gave Kat the support and caring she needed and Kat brought joy and laughter back into Daniel’s life. They were a good team. I really loved how Kat interacted with Andy, she was a great and funny nanny. I loved Kat’s humor although she often used it as a diversion in difficult circumstances. She acted like a confident, exuberant person but inside she was very sensitive and vulnerable, part of that was her character but a part of it was caused by her parents indifference when she was a teenager. Both she and Daniel had insecurities of their past so it was great to see that they gave the other what they needed to feel better. Both were very caring for the other. The secondary characters were great too, they really were good friends, supportive and loyal. You had Kat’s best friends Liv and Jules and then there were Daniel’s friends who were all professors at Russell U and who had been labeled ‘the hot professors’ by the female students. I have my fingers crossed that prof Zander with the ‘bad boy’ vibe will get his own story too some day in the future.
‘Tempt’ is a great story that I enjoyed very much.
Piper Lawson has given us a surprising treat with Tempt. I Loved this story,I never expected that Piper would write a book for Daniel but I am so glad she did.If you have read Piper Lawson's books before ,you would have met Daniel and Kat before in the Off Limits series of books.Kat is Liv's best friend and Daniel is Sawyers best friend and in this book Kat and Daniel find their very own romance....TOGHETHER !! Daniel is a single father to an 8 year old boy Andy,he is also a widower and a very Hot professor who is struggling to balance his work life and taking care of his son.To make a better life for him and Andy he needs help and so asks Kat to be his live in Nanny.A woman 10 years younger than him and a student at the universirty he teaches at.They have mutual friends and so someone he can trust with Andy he see her often,so he thinks she would be a good choice, but she is also the woman he can't stop thinking about, and lusting over. Kat is always the life and soul of the party, she is fun and happy go lucky, but that is all a front because inside she is lost and lonely. Her past haunts her and what she went through as a child, her roommates and friends have both found love and moved out.She feels alone and like she no longer fits in,so when Daniel approaches her and offers the Nanny job she accepts. At least she wont be on her own anymore. The problem is she is attracted to Daniel who is now her boss.He is Gorgeous and sexy but he also makes her feel seen. The chemistry between these two is just simmering away in the background while they get on with their new arrangement.Until it can't be contained anymore. I really love Daniel and Kat they were opposites in so many ways,Daniel is so orderly and responsible while Kat is messy and free spirited. But they fit together so perfectly and effortlessly,it works for them.Under eachothers influence Daniel becomes less restricted and Kat becomes more organised I enjoyed seeing them change eachother for the better, while still staying true to themselves. Tempt is another Excellently written story by Piper Lawson who continues to bring us Amazing characers to love and addictive stories to help us escape into. I really enjoyed Daniel and Kat's story it was great being back in this world of sexy professors and the students who steal their hearts. A Phenomaenal must read. 5 Stars.
Tempt is a standalone forbidden, age-gap, professor-student, friend to lovers romance and is the 4th book in the Off-limits series.
We first meet Kat and Daniel in Liv and Sawyer’s trilogy story and that’s something I adore about Piper’s books and character development; we get to meet best friends old and new and I’m so here for that. Especially since my favourite series is Harrison and Rae’s Enemies trilogy where we first meet Sawyer.
I love Piper’s writing style, she hooks you in with all the feels, with all her characters and you know you are in for one hell of a tender, steamy, heart-melting journey from the start and never want to leave the worlds she creates and Tempt is no different and includes:
Kat is a university student and Daniel is a widower, single dad and professor at the same university. Kat’s best friend Liv, moved out of their shared accommodation to move in with Daniel’s best friend Sawyer.
They both had an instant attraction for each other and their close proximity makes for a steamy, sizzling and swoony ride.
Although they have a 10 year gap between them Kat is wise beyond her years, playing the part of carer to Andy so perfectly. She brings so much joy to both Daniel and Andy, with her playful and caring ways and makes such strong connection with Andy and earns his love and respect instantly, much to the pleasant surprise of Daniel.
Daniel is a fabulous father to Andy, with his caring nature and he wants to do all he can to protect Kat but also show her the love that she deserves.
They both have their demons they need to resolve and their path to HEA is not without its bumps along the way.
I absolutely adored Kat and Daniel, and thoroughly enjoyed their banter and humour not to mention their chemistry was out of this world hot! I was cheering them on from the start and Daniel stole my heart the way he adored and worshipped Kat especially when he displayed his protective side it was heart melting to behold.
This is a beautiful story by an amazing author, and I completely devoured this book! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would, I cannot wait to see what Piper has in store for us next.
Tempt is a short novel set in the Off-Limits Series. It follows Daniel, Sawyer's childhood friend, and Kat, Olivia's (ex) roomate, as they navigate the challenges that come with this pretty little taboo relationship that is age gap, nanny/single dad and teacher/student (although Kat is not Daniel's student, they do teach/study at the same college).
This sweet, funny and swoony story was everything I needed after all the angst brought on by my 3 previous reads. You do not need to have read the other books in the Off-Limits series to read this one, but I strongly recommend you do. They are absolutely delightful.
Once again, Piper Lawson delivers on her FMC. Kat is such a wonderful and strong character. I enjoyed her dry sense of humour, how natural she was with Daniel and Andy (Daniel's 8 yo son). The relationship the two develop was so healthy despite the taboo elements. The maturity they both showed through their struggles was very refreshing. I really appreciated the fact that even though age sort of was an issue for Daniel, at least at the beginning, it was never the focus of the story building.
Kat came into Daniel's orderly life like the little storm that she is. She has a very witty humour and sharp tongue, which was perfect for serious Daniel. I loved how ready Daniel was for a new beginning and how Kat was just the exact person he needed to move on and enjoy love again. Both MCs' traumas only made them stronger together. They each let down their guards and showed vulnerability when they needed to. It was the perfect quick read and I enjoyed it greatly.
This book was a quick spicy read. I have grown to really enjoy age gap, forbidden romances and Lawson really created a wonderful one here. I felt the age difference between the two worked here and the relationship didn't feel icky. Daniel was just the sweetest cinnamon roll. He's a widower trying to his best to take care of his son. He hasn't wanted anyone since his wife passed, but then he meets Kat. Kat is a breath of fresh air. She's sunshine personified but she has dark clouds in her past. Kat and Daniel have demons to work past but they find love and acceptance with each other which is so sweet! I thought the steamy parts of the story delivered, especially after a slow burn. Daniel and Kat had great chemistry and it definitely made the steamy parts super enjoyable. Overall this is a quick steamy romance read with forbidden love, age gap romance, nanny/employer romance, cinnamon roll hero, sunshine heroine, professor/student, close proximity, slow burn and steam! Rating: 3.5/5
*Thank you to Valentine PR and the author for providing an advanced copy of the book. I voluntarily read and reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
I absolutely adored this entire listening experience!
I loved the story!
I loved the narration!
It could have been angst-driven and super emotional because of both their past circumstances, but Piper Lawson didn’t do that! She took a topic/theme/trope (whatever you wanna label it) that would normally put a reader in a state of ugly crying for over 75% of the story and instead took those circumstances for what they were, building blocks to who and what they are today, in order to allow their journey to flourish in the now and not the yesterday! Feel me? Probably not because I just read that sentence and blinked LOL but, nothing gets me the highest of the highest #twitchy than stories where characters are so caught up in their past they forget today. Feel me now?
UGH, I don’t care LOL but READ/LISTEN TO THIS STORY! Seriously!
Tempt is everything I would expect from Piper Lawson. I loved Daniel and Kat.
Daniel is an uptight professor with no room for fun. Kat is the free spirited college student he hires to be his nanny. These two are like oil and water but absolutely perfect for each other.
Daniel and Kat were perfect. Add in Andy, Daniel's son and this book is truly missing nothing.
I don't think anyone does forbidden better than Piper. Each book gets better and better.
A lovely, age gap, slightly taboo, romance between a gorgeous single dad and a sweet, spirited young woman. Kat, Daniel and Andy slowly build a relationship, moving towards new family. The plot moves along nicely, with minimal angst, but set backs which bring unhappiness. I loved Kat. She is all heart and sass. She slowly brings life and laughter back to Daniel, while enchanting and effortlessly building a relationship with Andy. This was a quick and satisfying read. 💖💖💖💖
They met at a club one night when they were out with friends. Daniel is a totally smoking hot professor at Russell U where Kat is a student. He’s older, a widowed single dad. So it’s a no go. Until they run into one another at the grocery store and Kat immediately bonds with his son! She becomes his nanny, but that’s not all they both want! Is it possible to have everything? Can they make it work? I loved this book! A great story about two people who have suffered but are ready to try and move on! A MUST READ!
This was the perfect love story that I didn't know I needed to read. I highly recommend this beautifully written story full of love, hope and healing. It is filled with characters so genuine that they stepped off the pages and into my heart. A story that is tender, sweet, and oh so wonderful. A hot professor in need of a nanny to take care of his young son engages a student from the campus. She's the perfect fit for his cute son and also for him. She brings many much needed changes into his life like chaos and sunshine. As his son thrives, Daniel learns from the younger Kat that it is very possible to love again after the death of his wife but in a very different way. There will be some circumstances to overcome as they work through a very tenuous situation. After all, a professor should know better than to sleep with the nanny who is a student, right?
What a treat to have another book in the Off Limits series! I was wishing for Daniel's story and Piper Lawson totally delivered in this great forbidden romance. Daniel is a devoted single father who must control everything in his life. Kat is a carefree and fun college student. Everything says they shouldn't be together but they are drawn to each other. They are such great characters and I loved every moment of this book! I would highly recommend this amazing forbidden romance!!!
Loved it. Piper has a way of making you get all the feels around the sexual tension, potential heartbreak and joy.
Kat has been a very private character in the rest of the series, so it's nice to get to know her, and her back story. For the second time in her life she feels left behind, but no one knows that as she is good at hiding her feelings and her past.
Daniel is a hardworking single dad juggling his private and work life, trying to build a secure future for him and his son Andy. When Daniel finds out that Kat is at a difficult point, he makes a snap decision to ask her to move in to be Andy's nanny. Killing two birds with one stone, this could be a great situation for them all, or a complete disaster!
Piper Lawson really knows how to deliver a spicy forbidden romance with amazing emotional depth. Kat and Daniel's story was playful, swoony, sizzling hot and heartaching.
Kat is at a crossroads. Her roommates have found love and just moved out and she has to decide what to do about her college course and housing situatuon. Professor Daniel offers her a live in nanny position and she accepts it. They both try to ignore this magnetic connection they have but life has a funny way to let love in.
Professor student is one of my all time favorite forbidden romance trope and this one was just so good. They have about a decade of age gap. Daniel is making my ovaries explode material. I mean what not to like? Charming. Gorgeous. Sexy. Bossy when needed. An awesome single father. With broken edges. Really an irresistible package. Kat is much mature than her age. She had to deal with a lot of difficult situations on her own since an early age and this college life was just beginning to look like she has it all together. But life throws her plans out of the windows. She is fierce and sweet and hides a lot of heartbreak and loneliness. They are forbidden and the consequences can be disastrous but their connection is too intense to ignore. Kat brought colorful chaos to the controlled and measured life of Daniel. Daniel gave her a sense of safety and belonging and being cherished after a tumultuous life. Kat made Daniel realise that being reckless and letting go of the useless guilt isn't always so bad. And He made Kat feel like she can be the centre of someone's universe. It was sweet and steamy and I just loved all the feels.
PS I LOVED MEETING SAWYER AND LIV AGAIN IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THEIR STORY YOU ARE MISSING BIG TIME. I reviewed an early copy voluntarily
Tempt by Piper Lawson is book 4 in the Off-Limits Series. This is the story of Katrina "Kat" and Daniel. Daniel is a widower who is a professor at Russell U. Daniel and is raising his 8 year old son Andy. Kat is a young college student studying psychology. Daniel and Kat meet when their friends Sawyer and Liv start dating. This brings them to their story. Loved this book and I hope to read more from this author.
**I received a review copy of this book in exchange for an honest voluntary review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**
I am SO glad Piper decided to write Daniel's story! He didn't have a huge role to play in the first 3 books of the Off-Limits Series, but he managed to capture my attention every time he appeared on the page. I couldn't wait to learn more about his past and to see him find happiness after the loss of his beloved wife.
There is just something so incredibly charming about romances with single parents. I'm a huge romantic so I just adore the idea of people finding love again after loss. And the kids are always so stinking cute too!
I found this book to be a great, feel-good novel and its guaranteed to put a smile on your face! I loved watching Daniel reconcile his past to embrace a new future with Kat. With plenty of steamy moments along the way, I just enjoyed reading this book with its lighter approach to the plot and character stories.
One of the big tropes of this novel is its forbidden, age-gap romance but I think it goes to show Piper's talent to write genuine and compelling characters that it never even phased me. These two were just a great match and balanced each other out beautifully. Could it have been amped up a little more? Sure, but I enjoyed that this book leaned more towards sweet than angsty.
For me, some scenes were a lot more telling than showing, which isn't my usual preference for a romance. I understand why though as this is a standalone novel and things need to be wrapped up within a certain amount of time. But I just found it made the plot points seem jagged and not as smooth as they could be.
Overall: as a Daniel fan I'm happy to see him get a renewed lease on life and I enjoyed reading this sweet romance.
Temptby Piper Lawson maybe the fourth book inOff-Limitseries, however it can be read as a Standalone. This steamy, Age Gap, Forbidden Romance follows the story of Katrina ‘Kat’ Rosalind and Daniel, who were first introduced in Liv and Sawyer’s trilogy story.
If there is one thing that you can expect from Piper Lawson and her stories, it’s that she always manages to reel you in from the get go. And ultimately delivering you with all the feels alongside the characters themselves.
Kat and Daniel’s story was no different, making you dive in head first from the very beginning. The plot to the story wasn’t entirely what Piper had me expecting. And for that, it was what made it all the more enjoyable. When it came to the not knowing, it kept you guessing making you all the more intrigued to see what Kat and Daniel’s journey would consist of and where exactly it would take you and them too simultaneously.
It definitely took you on a rollercoaster ride when it came to the side of emotions as well as some of the angst that was released through the pages. Yet it was expected considering the inner turmoil Kat and Daniel were dealing with when it came to their feelings for each other. On top of the hurdles they were battling when it came to what it would mean for them in the long run, considering their own situations in regards to their personal lives. This allowed Piper to open Kat and Daniel up more, allowing the unravelling of the many layers that made them who they were. Granting us the opportunity to get to know both characters on a deeper level, not only through their emotions. But with everything they had been through past and present, filling in the missing pieces to their backstories that was presented to us.
Piper Lawson came through yet again in delivering a wonderful story. Kat and Daniel’s storyTemptwas full of passion, heart and depth. Making it an enjoyable read overall.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I love a great age-gap, single-parent romance read, and Tempt ticks off the right boxes.
Kat is having somewhat of a crisis. Her friends are moving on and out of their shared apartment, bringing feelings that Kat has suppressed from her past to the surface. When she runs into college professor Daniel, who is overwhelmed with juggling a potential tenure and his young son, Kat and Daniel realize that they may be each other's solution. Kat can work for him as a live-in nanny so he can focus on his tenure. It is a temporary arrangement but as the two get closer, they soon find out that their attraction toward one another may not be as temporary.
I really enjoyed the dynamic between these two. While their connection is portrayed as well-established from previous encounters, we get a nice arc where they ground each other. Kat introduces play -- yes, including that kind of play, too -- into Daniel's all-work world, while Daniel helps Kat find her academic purpose.
Their chemistry is wholesome and hot at the same time. I was most definitely ready for them to kiss and bring on the fire, thanks to Piper Lawson's great job of building the tension. The payoff delivered on its promise; Daniel can be my dirty professor any day.
This is the fourth book in Lawson's Off-Limits series, but as a newcomer, I got the context I need to understand the different characters, so it can be read as a standalone.
** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Piper Lawson and Valentine PR and Literary Management for providing an ARC. **
I didn't read the first three books in Piper Lawson's Off Limits series, but after reading Tempt I think I need to go back to read that trilogy. Luckily I found Tempt to be a standalone story. I did occasionally get the friends mixed up but that was me being unable to remember who the friends were not because I hadn't read the original trilogy. I appreciated how much the female lead, Kat, cared about the male lead, Daniel's son Andy. She was a great nanny and really cared about it. And not that you see this with the main characters, occasionally you will see it with the evil side character, but I liked that Kat didn't use Andy to get closer to Daniel. She truly loved Andy and enjoyed spending time with him. Some of the main tropes in tempt are single dad (a favorite), age gap (typically I don't care for), and forbidden student teacher relationship (depends on the situation as to whether I like it or not). And for me I thought all of these tropes were written very well. Daniel wasn't a "fake" single dad, where you know he has young kids and yet they never seem to be around, he was an involved dad who was willing to do anything so his son was happy. For the age gap I honestly didn't even notice it, which is how I prefer it, I dislike when its obvious there is an age gap and they have nothing in common because of it. I didn't see that here. And I thought the student teacher relationship was handle the way I prefer it. Yes he is a professor at her school but he is not her teacher in anyway, she doesn't even take classes in his department. So there is no real imbalance of power in that aspect. While Daniel is Kat's boss as she is Andy's nanny, there was never any sketchy stuff going on. They were two consenting adults, neither of them in committed relationships or any sort of relationship at and the they were attracted to one another before she started working for him. I thought this was a good book and am excited to read Piper's next book.
This is book #4 of the Off-Limits Series. Each book follows a different set of characters and can be read as a stand-alone but to get the most of the story it is suggested to read the books in order.
Daniel lost his wife about three years ago and has been raising his 8y/o son Andy since then. He is always trying do what’s best for his son, but he is only one person. Kat and Daniel have mutual friends and met briefly on club night, and even though they had some killer chemistry and physical attraction, neither acted on it.
Kat has commitment issues, and Daniel isn’t ready to commit after his loss either. But when Kat needs a new place to stay and Daniel decides it’s time for a nanny, she moves in with him and Andy and they soon find out their attraction to each other is stronger then they imagined.
Watching Kat bring joy and fun back into his and his son’s life has Daniel feeling some type of way. But is he ready to commit? Can Kat put some of her past pain behind her to accept what Daniel is offering?
This was a cute quick and fun read. There was strong character growth from both characters and the plot was easy to follow. I loved the banter between Kat and Daniel. They had me laughing several times. I really enjoyed Kat's relationship with Andy as well. Kat was very mature for her age. There wasn't much from the whole professor/student aspect as he wasn't specifically her professor, just a professor at the same college. As a parent, Daniel's situation was very relatable in regards to trying to always making decisions and doing what you fell is best for your child/children. I was happy with Kat and Daniels HEA!
